When Lloyd had reluctantly changed out of his green gi, he had seen the bleeding wound right across his stomach.
He hadn't felt the blade slice his skin; it was obviously precise and calculated, like all the things Harumi had done to him and his friends, but it had also been swift since Skylor had tackled her immediately after.
He had hastily wrapped it before shrugging on the outfit that Nya had handed him, but now that they were out of danger and holed up in abandoned building, he shouldn't have been surprised that Nya pulled him into the extra bedroom and nudged him to lay down before pushing his shirt out of the way, revealing the near stab wound.
"Good thing I had the foresight of bringing the first aid kit in here before dragging you in," Nya mumbled as she opened it, moving the small wastebasket closer to her with her foot before pulling on gloves with a look of numbness in her eyes.
Lloyd knew from experience that it never meant anything good; she only made that face when she had to pull herself together to make sure another member of the team was okay. 'Granted, I don't think I've seen her look at me like that since Morro.'
"Lloyd, I'm not going to lie to you," she spoke, obviously struggling to keep her voice steady which made his heart sink with worry, "This is going to hurt, so you just focus on taking deep breaths, okay?"
Lloyd barely had the chance to nod in agreement before he was pulling away from the sting of the antiseptic pad, tears already forming in his eyes as he hissed through his teeth.
He could still see her, making that calculated face as she dabbed at the wound, but she didn't acknowledge him until she tossed it into the empty trash can, "you need stitches if this is ever going to close. Do you want me to get someone?"
He was the leader of the resistance, it was bad enough that she had to see him this vulnerable, this injured. The only people he really wanted to be there beside were locked away in Kryptarium or stuck in The First Realm.
He shook his head, and that was enough of a "go ahead" for Nya to start on the stitches.
His fingers gripped the sheets on both sides and he squeezed his eyes shut. Tears brimmed in the corners as the quick, stabbing pain started to make his way from his abdomen and into the rest of his body.
It seemed like an eternity before he heard the needle hit the side of the wastebasket, finally giving him the chance to breathe, before she gently set her hand on his shoulder "Give yourself a second to calm down, okay?"
Lloyd nodded, finally opening as he panted and tried to regain his bearings, watching as she peeled the gloves off of her hands before sitting next to his feet. "Thank you, for doing that."
"It was necessary," she nodded before looking at him right in the eyes, "you have to do everything in your power to keep that from getting infected, do you understand?"
Lloyd nodded as he took a breath, feeling the slight pull against his stomach. 'But you're gonna be fine. Back to business. Back to the resistance.' "Come on, we should go get some food. And get some answers."
He went to sit up, wincing as his abdomen pulled again, but before he could let the pain dissipate, Nya was already pushing him back against the bed.
"Let me see if I can find you some pain medication," She muttered as she stood up and started to rifle through the first aid kit as well as the small bag of their things that Skylor had managed to recover after the ambush, "it's not like Mystaké is going anywhere."
Lloyd couldn't argue with that one; he laid back against the pillows and tried to focus on something other than the fact that he felt at an all time low before cracking a joke like Jay would have done, "so, how happy were you when you hit Harumi with the battle wagon?"
"Are you okay?" She asked, handing him two white pills, "I know today was rough on the resistance, but…"
Lloyd dry swallowed the pills and focused on keeping his tears to himself. "I hate this. My mom and Pix are trapped in Kryptarium, the others and my uncle are stuck in an entirely different realm. My father and Harumi are the whole reason we're in this mess…" he couldn't stop a few tears from breaking free, tears Nya definitely noticed, "and I can't do anything. My powers are gone, I can't keep my friends safe, I can't stop my father...I can't even get over Rumi."
He winced when Nya pulled him into a very tight hug, his head tucked against her shoulder. "Nya, I don't even know how you're still standing."
She was silent for a moment before speaking in a hushed voice, clearly trying to keep from shattering the illusion that she had been building up in front of Lloyd since the night the guys got marooned, "because we know they're alive. The boys and Master Wu are alive, our alliance is alive, so we still have a chance."
"We don't even know if they can get back to us," Lloyd's voice cracked, something that didn't happen as much as it used to, showing just how much he doubted their safe return, "and it's only a matter of time before my father hurts them. He's only keeping them alive to draw me out."
"You don't know that," Nya gripped his hands in hers, resulting in him looking up at her greyish-blue eyes, "if we're going to stop them, we have to have faith that they'll return."
"I don't know if I can stop my father again. I barely made it out the last time and I had my elemental abilities." Lloyd noticed his mistake after he spoke when he saw Nya turn away briefly, and he looked back down at his legs. 'She was forced to help him, idiot.'
"I wasn't able to help you last time," her voice cracked as she let go of his hands and used her hand to lift his head, "but I'm here now. And we have Skylor, Mystaké, even Darreth. We are going to get out of this, you will stop your father, and the boys will return."
"How do you know?"
"Like I said, I have faith," she offered him a soft smile before reaching forward to wipe at tears he hadn't even felt streaming down his face, "you and I are in this together, Lloyd. And we have to endure."
Lloyd didn't stop himself from pulling her into a tight hug, feeling her strong arms immediately wrap around his back. 'At least this can be normal.'
He let go shortly after, the pain in his abdomen bearable as he stood up on his legs; the watchful eyes weren't lost on him, even when he held his hand out for her to take. "Come on. Let's go get some answers."
He couldn't hold back his smile when Nya took his hand.
