Cool Party II

Chapter 1: The Invitation

Hillwood

2025

It was a nice, sunny day in the town known as Hillwood. The weather was nice and most people were either at work or at school, depending on their age and lot in life.

Right now, most kids were at school and the students of PS. 118 were currently exiting their class rooms and heading outside for their favorite time of the school day.

Recess!

One particular football-headed boy with blue eyes, was walking out into the playground with his best friend.

"So, Adam was the one to put that cheese on the radiator..."The football-headed boy said, referring to a prank a friend of his pulled today and got caught in the act.

"I should have known that he'd pull such a stinky plan..."His female friend said, not surprised in the slightest.

"Whatever. So, Kiara...wanna play theater ball first?..."The boy asked.

"Sure, Andy..."The girl said.

Yes, they are Andy Shortman and Kiara Johanssen, two life long best friends who were now going to enjoy a fun 45 minutes of uninterrupted recess time.

"Oh, Andy~..."Was suddenly heard.

Andy flinched and Kiara's eyes narrowed as they turned to look at the source of the voice.

It's Courtney Gammelthorpe, the daughter of their parents mutual friends and their "friend" since early childhood.

She also happens to be the most popular girl in their class, and she has a massive crush on a certain boy whom she constantly reminds him abaout.

That boy is Andy.

"What does she want?..."Kiara asked with her arms crossed.

"I don't know..."Andy said, not wanting to deal with this again.

Unfortunately, Courtney got louder.

"Oh, Andy! Over here!..."Courtney shouted as she kept waiting, getting attention from others.

Andy sighed, as he realized that he can't just ignore her like this. Despite being annoying sometimes, Courtney is a friend. Even if she can be pretty clingy and seems convinced that they are "destined" for each other.

Either way, he didn't want to be mean here.

"I'll go see what she wants, you keep our place in line..."Andy said.

Kiara didn't like this but Andy already left to go see what Courtney want. The smart girl still frowned when she saw the rich girl once again get all flirty with the boy.

It made Kiara frown a lot.

"What is she up to?..."She thought.

With Andy

"A party?..."He questioned.

Once he arrived, Courtney, who was next to her vice-president of the school paper and god brother, Nate, the son an old friend of Mrs. Gammelthorpe and one of the rich girl's followers, handed him a party invitation.

"Not just any party but a high tea party in my very own home and it's tomorrow night..."Courtney clarified.

"Tomorrow night?..."Andy questioned.

"Yes. Mummy and Daddy have to go meet some investors over some project and Mummy says I can have my party..."Courtney said.

Andy looked at the invitation and saw something that caught his attention.

"Restricted invitation? What does that mean?..."He had to ask.

"It means that...well, not everyone is invited. Only the cool kids, right Nate?..."Courtney said.

"Right, Courtney..."Nate said as he held a clipboard.

"You know that last time that I had a party, everyone was invited. This time, I am downsizing it..."She said.

Andy had to roll his eyes at that. Despite her own quirks, Courtney was popular and had an ego on her.

"Uh-huh..."He said.

Unfortunately, it was then that Courtney smiled before she got all flirty with Andy, much to his discomfort as she stepped closer, invading some personal space.

"So, will you come?..."She asked as she fluttered her eyes at him.

Andy gulped, feeling all sorts of uncomfortable right now.

"Uh, I don't know Courtney. It's kind of last minute..."Andy said, unsure if he wants to be at some high tea party.

Courtney was persistent though.

"Come on Andy, you have to come. All of the cool kids will be there and none of the geeks..."Courtney said.

Despite being weirded out by Courtney, Andy raised a brow at that but shook it off as she got closer.

He wasn't sure if he wants to go but he didn't want to hurt Courtney's feelings. Despite it all, she is still his friend...Even if she was trying to cross some boundaries right now.

After a while, Andy sighed in defeat.

"Alright, I'll ask my parents if I can go..."He said.

Courtney squealed.

"Goody. Nate, add his name to the list..."Courtney ordered.

Nate did so, writing Andy's name on the "cool list".

All the while, Andy wondered if he was doing the wise thing.

A few moments later

Andy soon went back to Kiara and told her what went down.

"A "cool" party?..."Kiara asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I know... I had the same reaction..."Andy muttered as he showed her the invitation.

"And you're going?..."Kiara asked, incredulous.

Andy sighed.

"I didn't want to hurt Courtney's feelings by saying no. Besides, it's just a party..."Andy said.

Kiara sighed.

Sometimes Andy can be too nice for his own good.

"So, are you going to the party?..."The oblong headed child asked.

"No, she didn't invite me..."Kiara said, annoyed.

Andy was surprised by this and raised a brow.

"Well, it's still early. I'm sure she will..."Andy said.

Despite often being at odds around each other, Courtney and Kiara were friends. They just seem to act weird for some reason whenever Courtney flirts with him. Andy wasn't sure why. Some girl thing or whatever.

Kiara, on the other hand, wouldn't hold her breath.

"I doubt it..."She said, already figuring out Courtney before her friend.

With Courtney

Courtney and Nate were discussing who to invite to the party.

"How about Sammy?..."Nate asked.

"Geek, she is such a hick..."Courtney said in a snooty fashion.

"And Adam?..."Nate asked.

"Geek list, he is so loud and obnoxious. He'd ruin the party..."Courtney said, not wanting him there.

Nate merely wrote the names down on the list before continuing.

"What about Kiara?..."Nate had to ask.

"Geek..."Courtney said flatly.

Okay, now Nate stopped.

"How come? Kiara is nice, she's funny and everyone likes her. She seems pretty cool to me..."Nate said.

He didn't realize that Courtney had her own reasons for not wanting the other girl there, ones that involve Andy.

"Let's just say she and I don't exactly agree on some things..."Courtney said as she glanced ahead to see Kiara with Andy.

She saw Andy laugh at something Kiara said and the rich girl felt a sting of jealousy within her.

"Just you wait, Johanssen. Andy will see how cool I am tomorrow night..."The rich girl thought before she and Nate continued to choose who was cool and who was a geek.

Later

Andy went home after school and asked his folks for permission to go to the party. He even showed them the invitation and this was their reaction.

"A cool party?..."Arnold and Helga questioned.

"I know it sounds weird but Courtney is throwing it...so, can I go?..."He asked, but his expression showed he didn't care that much.

"Deja vu..."Helga thought.

"Like mother, like daughter..."Arnold couldn't help but think.

"Do you want to go, Andy?..."The father asked.

"Not really but Courtney is a friend and I don't wanna be mean here...besides, it's just a party..."Andy said.

Arnold and Helga sent each other a look. They both remembered a time from their childhood, of a similar kind of party and what it lead to.

Still, they both wanted to be certain on some things.

"Who else is invited?..."Helga asked.

"Courtney said that she's inviting only the cool kids..."Andy said.

"Cool kids, huh?..."Helga questioned.

"Is Kiara invited?..."Arnold asked.

"Not yet...but I'm sure she will invite her..."Andy said.

Arnold and Helga sent each other a look and sighed. They went to the kitchen to talk in private to figure out their next move.

"Should we tell him?..."Helga asked to her husband.

"I think it's best he learns on his own...besides, Courtney is a good friend of the kids...we have to give her the benefit of the doubt..."He said to his wife.

"You know what her mother did when we were kids and she was our "friend" then too?..."The blonde mother pointed out.

"Well, Courtney isn't Rhonda... she might surprise us..."Arnold said.

"You always did try to find the best in everyone, Football Head..."Helga said.

She and her husband talked a little more before going back to their son.

"Okay, you can go to the party..."Helga said.

"Just remember to call us if anything happens and we'll be picking you up before it gets too late..."Helga said in a protective way.

"Thanks..."Andy said neutrally as he went to call Courtney to RSVP.

Once he was gone, the husband and wife turned to each other.

"He's not gonna have any fun tomorrow, is he?..."Arnold said.

"No doi..."Helga said as she and her husband went on with their day, both preparing for tomorrow and any...contingencies needed.
