Summary: A year had passed since the war against The Serpents and everything had been going well until one day Makayla ran into a purple-haired Rider in the woods. Join Makayla and Amira as they work together to defeat an enemy they all had thought had been defeated, save Alagaesia, stop the curse of Makayla's mark, and search to find a way back home
Makayla gave a relaxed smile as she walked through Camp Half-Blood.
She strolled through the camp, enjoying the sun and watching her fellow demigods train. She saw several campers sparring and watched for a moment before continuing on her way. She laughed lightly as she saw Connor and Travis Stoll being yelled at by Katie Gardener after a failed attempt to sneak into the camp store. Then she smiled as she thought of how much she loved her home.
It had been about a year and a half since Ganabranth and The Serpents had been defeated and Makayla was still celebrating. After years of running and worrying, she was still in slight disbelief; it was almost too good to be true!
"Kayla! Hey, Makayla! Wait up!"
A voice behind her caused the redhead to pause and turn, smiling when she saw who was running over.
"Hi guys." Makayla greeted. Ashlyn and Jakob each slipped a hand into hers when they reached the redhead. "What's up?"
"Not much. It's my day off and my cabin siblings were being too annoying to be around so I decided to look for you." Ashlyn smiled. Her dark skin looked as warm as cocoa in the light of the summer sun.
"I was just going to get a snack but then I bumped into Ashlyn, who was looking for you, then I wanted to see you too. Here I am now." Jakob explained his side, blond hair looking golden.
"Wait wait wait- you, Jakob Johnson, ignored food?!" Makayla exclaimed in mock surprise. "Ashlyn made you not hungry?"
"No. You, Makayla Johnson, made me not hungry." He clarified. Makayla held back a giggle as he stressed her new last name. "I just followed Ashlyn to you."
"Awww! For a moment I had the smallest hope that it had been my sparkling personality but noooo! It just had to be Makayla!" Ashlyn whined dramatically.
"Ash, have you forgotten who you're talking about? This is Jake." Makayla grinned. Her best friend returned the action.
"Touché. Jake will do anything as long as you say your name."
"Not true!" The blond protested with a look of offense.
"Yeah, it kinda is," Ashlyn argued.
Makayla was trying to hold back a laugh as she watched them argue. She loved them both and would do anything for them but sometimes she wondered how they hadn't killed each other, they were so competitive. Ever since Makayla and Jakob had gotten married, he and Ashlyn had become even more like magnets to her.
"Jake, where are the twins?" Makayla asked.
"They're with Leo and Piper." The young father replied with a reassuring smile. Makayla nodded before hearing the horn that signaled it was time for lunch.
"You're not gonna go?" Ashlyn asked Jakob as he would normally be halfway to the dining pavilion already.
"Nope. I'm sticking with Kayla this time." He told her firmly, his arm slipping around Makayla's waist to pull her to his side. Makayla rolled her purple and silver eyes.
"Oh, just go already." She told her husband, waving him away. Jakob smiled and kissed her lips before turning to run off.
"Just like I said; he's unable to stop himself!" Ashlyn giggled as the two girls watched the blond.
"I neglect to notice that." Makayla chuckled. Her friend gave her a look from the corner of her brown eyes.
"Seriously? You can practically control him! You could make him do whatever you want just by saying your name. I'd be using that all the time if I was you." She joked.
But Ashlyn's smile turned to a frown when Makayla's body stiffened and her eyes began to turn silver in color. Her hand unconsciously began tracing her pale arm, her fingers feeling the large twin scars that wrapped around her body.
"Take control..." The Daughter of Two muttered, voice shaking. "Do what… want..."
Ashlyn looked over to her friend to see that the redhead's eyes were beginning to glow with silver light and gasped, realizing what was happening.
"Oh gods! I'm so sorry Makayla!" Ashlyn exclaimed, hands on her shoulders as she attempted to shake her best friend from her daze. "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking! Please don't go back! I forgot! I'm sorry, Kayla, please stay with me!"
The silver glow began to fade from Makayla's eyes and she blinked several times. The redhead's hand slowly came off her scar and instead moved to wrap around her friend, who had buried herself in her embrace.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Ashlyn muttered over and over, arms wrapped tightly around her friend.
"Nothing happened, Ashlyn, I'm okay," Makayla told her, her voice soft but emotionless. Her face was as blank as stone. Ashlyn reluctantly pulled back to see that the redhead seemed in deep thought. Makayla noticed the worried look she was given and forced a small smile onto her pink lips. "Why don't you go get some lunch? I'll... I'll catch up in a bit."
"Okay…" Ashlyn agreed slowly, knowing better than to press. "I'll save you a seat."
The daughter of Iris slowly turned and left towards the dining pavilion with a concerned look back. The redhead watched for a moment before turning away.
Not sure where she was going, the Daughter of Two started walking.
Ω Ω Ω
Makayla knew she didn't mean it. She knew that Ashlyn hadn't been trying to trigger her. Still, her words kept ringing in her head:
'You can control him and make him do whatever you want.'
Just like Ganabranth.
He would kick Makayla from her own mind and force her to do whatever he wanted. He had made her hurt innocent people, made her choke Leo and Nico, causing bruises to appear on their necks, and all because she had no power to stop him. Ganabranth may have had taken control of her, and she may have the same power, but Makayla would never do that to anyone. She would never force someone to do anything against their will.
Ashlyn might have said it as a joke but her words hit a bit too deep.
Makayla was pulled from her thoughts when she suddenly felt an odd sensation wash over her: it was as though time slowed to a stop. Her arms and legs were suddenly weak and sluggish mid-step as though she were trying to walk through a wall of Jell-O. Yet at the same time, her surroundings seemed to be shooting past her. She was unable to move her gaze but from the corner of her eyes, she could see the forest around her blurring by a hundred miles an hour. Almost a full minute passed before the sensation disappeared and her surroundings came to a stop.
Makayla stumbled as time returned to its normal speed and she fell to her knees, suddenly exhausted. Her eyes were wide as they snapped up to look around her in surprise. She wasn't sure how long she had been walking for but she found that she now stood in the middle of the woods. She spun around to try to see what caused that feeling but nothing was there, just a few trees she had walked past.
Sighing, Makayla got to her feet, legs shaky, and moved to sit on a nearby boulder. Her head was pounding and it made her feel dizzy.
The sound of leaves rustling caught her attention and her head snapped up. Makayla's brown furrowed in a frown when she realized that nothing around her looked familiar: the plants, trees, and even clouds were all different than the ones found in Camp Half-Blood. It was significantly later in the day too; it had been around midday last she checked but now it was nearing sunset.
Then there was a small snap, as though a small twig had broken. The sound was so faint that anyone else would have missed it but Makayla had better hearing than most people.
She frowned cautiously and quietly stood, slowly and silently unsheathing her sword. Lígero hummed in response to her touch. She reached inside herself and grabbed ahold of her power, making her free hand glow faintly.
(Light)
Her instincts tingled the back of her neck and Makayla instantly spun around and raised her sword, the action halting a different sword mere inches from her face.
'WAY too close!' She mentally exclaimed with wide eyes.
It was too dark out to see the details of the new weapon but she did see that the blade that locked with hers was shaped differently from the usual Greek design.
"Who are you? What is your business being here?" The owner of the sword demanded. The person's voice was female and young, beautifully melodic as though she spent a lot of her time singing, and if Makayla had to she would guess the newcomer was around her own age.
The demigod's mind was spinning as she tried to straighten her thoughts.
Everyone in Camp Half-Blood knew Makayla and no one would be attacking her unless they were a new camper. But if they were new then why would they already have a weapon? And why would they be in the woods so late at night? Something felt very off about the situation and it put her on edge. It gave her a strong sense of déjà vu, familiar to the feeling she used to have when around Ganabranth; it was like she was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be with someone she wasn't supposed to be with.
"I shall ask you but once more: who are you and what business do you have being here?" Makayla blinked a few times, snapping from her thoughts as the girl repeated her question. Their swords were still locked together.
"Sorry, but I don't give my name away like a company card." She told the girl, her voice hard. "My business is my own."
"I would not think so as you are intruding in our land. So I give you a choice: surrender and identify yourself or prepare for defeat." The unseen girl threatened, applying more pressure against their locked swords.
Makayla noted the girl had said 'our land' even though it seemed that there was no one else around. She pursed her lips.
"How about a truce?" She suggested, not really in the mood to get into a fight. "We both put our weapons down and then you can tell me who you are and I'll tell you who I am. Deal?"
There was silence for a moment before Makayla faintly saw the girl nod.
"Deal."
Makayla felt the pressure against her sword disappear and saw the outline of the girl stepping back so she did the same, lowering Ligero to her side but keeping the white-gripped sword in her hand.
Getting annoyed by the darkness, the Daughter of Two then raised her free hand slightly and focused. Her palm glowed with a silvery light and, now able to see them, the redhead quickly scanned the stranger.
The girl was Makayla's height and seemed around her age as well, about 19 years old. Her body was well-muscled yet managed to retain a beautifully graceful figure. Her tanned skin had smooth but defined features; her deep-set eyes seemed to be artistically placed above firm cheekbones on her beautiful heart-shaped face. As her gaze moved to her strange hair, the demigod noted that her ears were slightly pointed.
Oddly though, the girl's silky hair was the vivid color of purple amethyst-gems. It reached just above her hips despite being placed in a french-braid that hung down her back. The iris of her eyes was also purple in color just like Makayla's, though there was no silver.
She wore no makeup but even without any, the girl held such a natural, indescribable, breathtaking beauty that a small spark of jealousy formed in Makayla's chest.
The girl seemed surprised by Makayla's ability to summon the light as her expression was one of shock.
"How are you doing that? Who are you?" The girl once more asked, the grip on her sword tightening as her violet eyes narrowed.
Makayla unconsciously saw that the sword that was held at the purple girl's side was a straight double-edged style with a curved crossguard and what looked like a large gem on the end of its hilt. Strangely though, the blade of the sword was a dark purple that almost perfectly matched the color of her hair.
This weird girl really seemed to like the color purple.
"You said this is your land so you go first." Makayla invited in response to her question. The suspicion in the girl's narrowed eyes didn't lessen but she placed three fingers on her forehead and gave a small bow.
"My name is Amira Moraow."
