Welcome everyone to chapter 6!

Uhhh... I don't really have anything to say except thanks for making it this far in the story! Let's not delay the adventure though and get to it!

I hope you enjoy and let's get right into this!

Jakob stumbled back as the memory ended and he was brought back to the present moment.

Pulling away from Lauren's outstretched hand, he stumbled backward and barely managed to catch himself as he fell.

"Holy Hades! Warn a guy before you do something like that!" Will exclaimed, but Jakob ignored him.

"What the hell was that?!" The blond demanded, his blue eyes wide and breathing hard.

At the same time, Lauren's knees gave out and she collapsed. Nico quickly jumped to catch her before she fell. He picked up the surprisingly light mortal and carried her over onto one of the veranda chairs. Collapsing into the chair, Lauren closed her hazel eyes and took several shaky breaths, her only hand on her chest. The mark was still visible: a black snake in the center of her collarbone.

"It was a memory from- from when Makayla and I were his *wince* his prisoners." Lauren managed after a minute of bombarded questions, her voice weak and hoarse. "He didn't like how I was- *gasp* - how I was healing her so he tried to stop me."

"Huh? How could you heal someone? You have no godly blood or powers." Annabeth asked confusingly but her question was ignored for the moment.

"What was that stuff? That ink?" Jakob then asked, still confused by the vision. Lauren would have shrugged but seemed to be in too much pain, though it was much less than in the memory.

"I don't know but whenever I tried to help Makayla, the pain would- ugh - it would come back and make me too weak to do anything." She answered.

"Stop, stop, stop! Hold! Up!" Will suddenly exclaim-demanded, holding his hand in the timeout symbol. He turned to his half-brother. "What happened? Lauren touched you and you froze for like a second and then stumbled back like you got punched in the gut."

"She showed me what I guess was a memory that kinda explained what just happened," Jakob supplied, leaning his head against one of the porches' pillars.

"You mean like a flashback? Like Makayla gets?" Piper asked, knowing Makayla had flashbacks but not sure about Lauren. Said mortal shook her head.

"No, this was different. I showed Jakob one of my memories." Lauren looked exhausted and Jakob couldn't blame her. Showing him a memory after that attack must have really drained her. She gestured to the black snake on her chest. "This ink? He would use it to hurt me."

"But how did that just happen? The dude's dead and gone for good." Leo reminded everyone.

"I honestly don't know," The mortal admitted. "I'll search through my memories and ask around and try to find out how he did this because that… whatever he is, is supposed to be gone."

"Didn't Kayla say that she erased him from existence or something?" The Latino remembered.

"Supposedly but nothing's ever that easy with us." Percy sighed.

"Well, if he can somehow hurt me from wherever he is then I'm just praying he can't reach Makayla since she-"

Lauren cut herself off. She completely froze and muttered what sounded like a curse in a language no one understood.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Jason wondered but their friend said nothing for a long minute, shaking her head slowly. Then her hazel eyes widened and tears appeared.

"Oh… my… god…" She choked out with a sob in horror, face turning red. "No… Sé älfr waíse vergarí unin du tsom verkr abr wya!"

(May he be killed in the most painful of ways)

Confused looks were exchanged, no one understanding her strange language.

"Lauren. What is wrong?" Annabeth repeated Jason's question a bit firmer.

"It's Makayla!" Lauren cried miserably, tears sliding down her cheeks. Her hand went to her mouth, tears forming. "Oh gods…. she's in Alagaesia."

She said it like she was expecting everyone to understand but only served to grow her friend's confusion.

"Yeah, we know that but what does that have to do with cursing Ganabranth?" Will urged.

"Besides every other reason," Ashlyn added unhelpfully.

"No, you don't get it." Lauren sniffed, voice shaking and tears falling. "She still has her snake scar. Even though her other ones are gone, she still has that one."

"The gods said they couldn't remove it," Nico remembered.

"Right. They couldn't get rid of Makayla's scar because Ganabranth used some kind of magic while making it-"

"I thought Johnathan made it?" Piper argued. Lauren made a frustrated sound.

"Yes, Johnathan gave her the scar but I found out not too long ago that Ganabranth made the knives he used." She explained. "Somehow that demon-of-a-human put a part of his soul's essence into the metal and that means that a part of him was put into Makayla through her scar when it was cut with that knife. I have no idea how he did what he did but because Makayla got rid of him and the gods are making sure he can't come back here on Earth, that small part of him residing in her scar can't do anything. But that- now she's in Alagaesia…not here…"

Realization was starting to appear in the others' eyes as Lauren spoke so she continued.

"The Olympians have no power in Alagaesia and neither do the Alagaesian gods. That small part of him could come back and no one would be able to stop him. He wouldn't be as powerful as before because Alagaesia has a different kind of magic but he would still be able to make himself a new body, whether making one for himself or taking another person's he wouldn't care, and he is not going to be happy about Makayla killing him. So if-if he does c-come back…"

Lauren trailed off, not wanting to say it.

"He'd go after Makayla..." Nico finished in horrified realization.

For a full minute, no one said anything, everyone was frozen in shock. The thought of the evilest, most cruel, dangerous, and most powerful person to ever walk the earth returning…

"WHAT!? HE'S COMING BACK?!" Leo finally exclaimed. His brown eyes were wide and his hands were tangled in his hair.

"Quiet, blabbermouth! You're going to wake the twins!" Thalia hush-scolded.

"But is he?" Leo's voice was quieter but still equally panicked. "It took so long and was so hard to finally get rid of him!"

"I don't know for sure but… but it's a probability," Lauren admitted, voice quivering.

She looked beyond the words of scared and nobody could blame her; Ganabranth held Lauren captive and tortured her for years without end, no doubt giving the mortal a complete and unparalleled fear of the man. It took a long time to defeat Ganabranth and now that he was just coming back for no reason (well he probably did have a reason but they didn't know what it was yet) scared everyone, even those who had only heard of him.

"We need to find a way to talk to Makayla! We have to warn her somehow!" Ashlyn groaned miserably. The group of friends all nodded in agreement except Jakob, who looked in shock.

"If we don't find a way to tell her then she could be in serious danger really soon." Annabeth agreed worriedly. Leo opened his mouth to say something but stopped and closed it.

"Leo? What is it?" Jason noted his action.

"Huh? Oh, I was just thinking." The Latino shrugged.

"About what?"

"I was just thinking about Amira. It's been a long time and I really think she could help Kayla with this."

"We all miss her. And yeah, she'd be a big help." Annabeth agreed.

"It's been, what? Three or four years now?" Jason estimated.

"I just wish Iris Messages worked in Alagaesia." Piper sighed. "If we told her what was going on, she'd be able to help."

"I didn't know her as well as you guys but I miss Eragon and Roran and even Arya." Percy admitted. "I didn't think I'd say it but Murtagh too."

"Who's Murtagh?" Thalia asked.

"A guy from Alagaesia who's a lot like you." He replied vaguely, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"I thought you said no one really liked or trusted Murtagh?" Jason frowned.

Thalia shot a glare at the son of Poseidon. There was a loud 'POP' a second later and Percy yelped, jumping and holding his side where a small bolt had shocked him. He glared at the daughter of Zeus.

"Pinecone face." He muttered.

"Kelp head." She retorted.

"Tree root!"

"Fish boy!"

"Can we please not do this right now?" Jason pleaded, grabbing his sister's arm.

"Fine," Percy muttered.

Several minutes of thoughtful silence passed before it was broken when Jakob stood from his position on the porch with a panicked look on his face. His hand shot to the ring on his left hand but as soon as he touched it, he snapped his hand back like he was burned. He gasped and winced and cursed as he yanked the now-smoking ring off his finger. But as soon as he did he dropped it to the porch, unable to keep hold of the burning silver band, and watched in horror as the ring crumbled into dust.

His ring- the one symbolizing his marriage to Makayla- had just turned to ash!

"Jakob, what happened?" Ashlyn asked him in confusion. "Your ring-"

"I-I don't know!" The son of Apollo stuttered, staring at the pile with wide eyes. "It felt really hot then it- it just..."

"Was that your wedding ring? The one Makayla has too?" Lauren wondered.

Jakob nodded numbly in response, still staring at what used to be his symbol of marriage. He gently touched the pile of ash, hoping there were still remains of the ring, but there was nothing left. A wind then blew by, scattering and blowing the ashes away. Jakob tried to reach out but only watched as his connection to his wife disappeared.

"What is happening?" Jason asked Lauren, seeing how the mortal seemed to know better than anyone what was happening. "There's no way his ring could have just randomly turned into nothing."

"I don't know." She admitted, voice still weak. "But however it happened, I just hope it doesn't do the same to anything else. What stands out was that it was his wedding ring that burned instead of his other one."

Angel's crying from inside the Big House snapped Jakob from his shock and he quickly got up to go inside,k but when he reached his children, he saw something that made him freeze. Angel was in fact on the couch crying but what almost made her father almost cry was Adam.

The young child had his arms wrapped around his sister, having her crying into his embrace. Jakob had never seen the twins do that before and he almost lost it when he saw how his son cared for and held his twin sister. He remembered how he'd hold Makayla just like that when she cried and for a minute or two, he could only watch as the two babies held each other.

Angel seemed to calm down pretty fast and eventually went back to sleep. Adam remained curled up beside his twin, hugging her as he too drifted off. Jakob had never seen his son show his sister so much care or love and it made his heart ache.

The father slowly and silently moved to the couch across from the twins, sitting down slowly. His watering eyes never left his children. He wondered how a child as young as Adam could have known how to calm his sister like that. He sighed while thinking of how fast his children seemed to be growing up; it felt like it was only a day ago that he and Makayla were driving home from the hospital with two tiny bundles in the back.

Jakob laid down on the couch across from his kids. After a minute he closed his eyes and sighed.

He was asleep in seconds.
