A/N Hey, everyone. I am back with more of the Degrassi SYOC series. So first off, I hope you guys are staying safe out there, following restrictions, and being good. Second, this is the eighth chapter of the series and hopefully, I can have more characters interactions. And third, this chapter is the continuation of the characters' first names perspective. There will be more of the confidential student files. In this chapter, more friendships, and more conflicts. So, this is the ninth chapter, and here we go.
James
Having a good day of his second day as a freshman so far, James walked to history class as he played the band Arcade Fire on his earphones, blocking out the conversation that the students are having with another. After making it to the history class, James found an empty desk on the left row as he sat down and removed his earphones. He glanced over at a female student with blue eyes, but he couldn't tell if her hair was either dark brown or auburn. And she was twirling her hair. He looked at her, wondering if it's one of her habits.
"Good morning, everyone. I hope your day is going well so far."
James puts away his MP3 player in his backpack and took out his history homework and placed it on his desk before he took out the textbook, wondering what chapter he and his classmates would be covering today. He really wished that Janie would be here so they can have a quiet conversation and not get caught by their history teacher.
'I wonder how Janie is doing with her class so far.' he thought.
Ever since hanging out with Janie yesterday, James couldn't stop thinking about her. He hoped that he would ask her out soon before any other guys in the school beat him to it and he'll never get another chance.
"Miss Taylor, well done on getting your homework finished."
"Thank you. I actually had some help yesterday." she said.
"Back to the lesson. Today we're gonna be covering chapter three of the textbook. Open your textbooks and we'll be going over to the final days of the second world war."
'Great, just what I need. More history about the second world war.' James thought.
James opened up his textbook and went over to the third chapter. He hoped that he won't have history class again next semester.
"Mr. McKay. I hope you're paying attention and not getting lost in your thoughts."
"My bad." he replied as he read the third chapter in silence.
As he read the textbook in silence, he quietly observed the female student sitting beside him. Deciding that it would be a good time to make more friends, James did his best not to draw too much attention.
"Are you okay there?" he asked her.
"I'm fine. I don't need help." she replied quietly, not taking her eyes off the textbook.
"What's your name?" he asked as he offered his hand.
"Melody June Taylor." she replied as she shook his hand, still concentrating, not wanting any kind of distractions.
"James McKay. It's nice to meet you." he said.
After making friends with Melody, James wondered if Janie made friends with Melody. And somehow, he couldn't shake this feeling that Janie would have her first conflict or not.
Janie
Meanwhile with Janie, she hasn't been having the best second day so far. She almost got into a fight with a blonde female student with pink tips while on her way to gym class. Janie recalled that she ran into the blonde female on her first day of school yesterday. Wanting to meet high expectations from her widowed father, Janie avoided getting into trouble, but this would be her first conflict with another student who's about her age.
Making her way to gym class, Janie thought about James since they hung out after school yesterday after learning that he got into fights since he was a kid. She hoped that he would ask her out soon. After arriving for her gym class, Janie went to get changed.
Setting down her bag and taking off her glasses, Janie changed into her gym clothes and puts her glasses back on as she secretly observed her classmate. She recalled bumping into her yesterday and Janie apologized, and her classmate told her not to worry about it.
The female noticed that Janie was observing her, but Janie quickly looked back down as she tied her shoes. The female walked over to her, recalling the encounter in the hallway.
"I remember you. You bumped into me yesterday and you apologized. And I told you not to worry about it." she said.
"It's not my habit of running into people." said Janie.
"I never got your name yesterday." she said.
"Sorry. That was rude of me. I'm Janie." said Janie as she took her hand out.
"I'm Melody." said Melody as she shook Janie's hand.
"It's good to meet you, Melody. Hopefully we'll be good friends for the rest of the school year." said Janie as she removed her hand.
Having made another friend who's about her age, Janie and Melody exited the female change room and joined their classmates. Janie stretched her legs, hoping that she would not feel exhausted by the end of the day. Janie had wished James would sit beside her so they can talk to each other before the class starts.
'Am I actually in love with James McKay? No, I'm probably thinking too much.' Janie thought.
Janie observed Melody, sitting all by herself and stretching. Janie somehow got a feeling that Melody has a crush on someone. Janie started thinking if Melody has a crush on Adam Hawthorne, one of her new friends. After stretching, Janie got up and ran laps. Usually, Janie is not good at running, but she was able to keep up the pace.
About an hour later, the bell rang, and Janie went to get changed. Exiting the gym, Janie went to her locker to get her lunch and meet with James so they can talk about their day.
Janie walked in the hallways and spots James at his locker before she goes over to him.
"Hey." she greeted him.
"Hey." he replied.
"How's your day going?" she asked.
"It's good so far. I just made friends with Melody Taylor." he replied.
"Same here." she said.
Melody
After making friends with James McKay and Janie Thompson, Melody never felt glad that she would make more friends. As the bell rang, meaning it is lunch time, Melody went to change back into her normal clothes as she went to her locker. Just then, someone tapped on her shoulder. Smiling, she turns around and Adam stood beside her as he smiled back at her.
"Hey." he greeted as he leaned against the lockers.
"Hi." she replied as she grabbed her lunchbag from her locker.
"How's your second day going so far?" he asked.
"It's okay. Except that my classmates and I covered chapter three of the textbook in history class and talked about the final days of the second world war." she replied.
"At least I gave you some help on your history homework yesterday." he said.
"What class do you have next after lunchtime?" she asked him.
"I have science class next after lunchtime. What about you?" he replied.
"Same here. I have science class after lunchtime too." she said.
"Let's hope our science teacher will be impressed that I helped you out on your science homework since you said science isn't your favourite." he said.
While walking down the hallway to the cafeteria, Melody bumps into a female with blonde hair and pink tips. And Melody was not impressed the way the female dressed.
"Watch it." the female warned.
"Rude much, blondie?" asked Melody as she brushed herself off.
"I don't like her. She dressed up like a rebel." said Adam.
"Sounds like you have some issues with rebels like her, Adam." Melody commented.
"Yeah, well, rebels like her have bad habits of not coming to school and going somewhere to do something rebellious." he said.
"I better not see or hear that you did something rebellious." she said.
Like yesterday, Melody felt her hand brushing against Adam's hand while they were walking home together after hanging out at Adam's home and getting to meet his family.
'Do I actually have a crush on Adam?' she asked herself.
Arriving in the cafeteria, Melody sat down on a table and Adam sat across from her as she took her lunch out of the lunchbag while Adam did the same.
"So, how's your day going so far?" asked Melody.
"Well, I got into my first conflict with one of my classmates in gym class this morning." Adam replied as he took a bite of his sandwich.
"You're kidding." she said.
"Nope. I'm not kidding. He threw a basketball at me and I caught it." he said.
"It's a good thing I don't go for guys who would throw something at someone for no particular reason at all." said Melody.
"Trust me, I hate typical jocks like that." Adam agreed.
Melody observed Adam five minutes later, and she definitely knew something is going inside his mind. She felt hesitant if she should ask him what's on his mind.
"Everything okay? You've been really quiet for the past five minutes." she commented.
"Oh. I'm just thinking about a couple of months ago before high school." he said.
"Do you want to talk about it? I fully understand if you don't feel comfortable talking to me about it." she said.
"I used to have a girlfriend. Well, more of an ex-girlfriend." he said.
"I didn't know you had an ex-girlfriend." she pointed out.
"Well, we can talk about it after school. But not right now since we have school." he said.
Peyton
After lunchtime, Peyton went outside to smoke some weed before going to science class. As she walked to her class, she observed a female with wavy auburn or dark brown hair and blue eyes and a male with dark brown hair and brown eyes walking beside her.
Instantly, Peyton takes a liking to the male and she would try to talk to him if he's alone and not with the female Peyton had ran into before lunchtime. Finding a seat in the back row, Peyton sat behind the male student as he sat down beside the female student on the front.
"Good afternoon, everyone. Hope you spent your lunchtime. Today we'll be covering chapter two. Take out your textbook and go to chapter two. Also, get your homework out."
Doing what as they were told, Peyton watched her classmates getting their completed homework assignment out and handing it to the science teacher. Taking a piece of paper and a pencil, Peyton wrote on the paper before she folded it into a paper airplane and threw it at the front row on the male student's desk. Taking notice of the paper airplane, he picked it up and unfolded the paper as he read it.
"Mr. Hawthorne. You want to share what is on the paper you're reading?"
"No. I don't know who wrote this and threw it at me." he simply replied as he held the paper.
"I'm gonna have to take the paper and read it in front of the class."
"Ms. Reid. Is this a good time to write something on a paper and use it as a message?"
Peyton groaned out loud, and this is about to go bad from worse. Adam Hawthorne, one of her classmates who read the paper, recognized Peyton from the hallway. And he was not happy and impressed.
"Are you trying to get me into trouble?" Adam asked Peyton.
About fifteen minutes later, the students drew their attention back to the lesson as they read the paragraphs of the second chapter of the textbook. Peyton paid no attention to the lesson as she continued to observe Adam, hoping to turn him into a bad boy.
"Ms. Reid. Don't even think about turning Mr. Hawthorne into a rebellious kid."
Half an hour later, as science class ended, the students gathered their assigned homework and the textbooks as they stashed it in their backpacks.
"Everyone, there's a pop quiz next week. Study your notes, memorize it, and review the chapters we're going through this week."
Making her way to biology class, Peyton followed the female student from behind before she does the unexpected. Peyton shoved the female student into the ground, making her drop the books on the floor.
"What's your problem, blondie?" asked Melody.
"No boys will ever like you. Stay away from Adam. He's not your boyfriend." Peyton replied.
Melody then got back up and shoved Peyton, not feeling impressed with the way Peyton is speaking to Melody.
"Don't even think about turning Adam into a rebellious kid because he will never go for a rebel like you." said Melody.
Just then, the students formed a circle, as they watched some drama go down.
"Enough! What's going on here?" The head principal Archie Simpson asked.
"All of you, get to class! There's nothing to see here." he ordered.
Mr. Simpson looked at both Melody and Peyton, as the rest of his students went to class, not wanting to stir up some trouble.
"Ms. Taylor, pick up your books and get to class." Mr. Simpson ordered.
"Mr. Simpson, she shoved me!" Peyton defended.
"Ms. Reid. Office. Now." Mr. Simpson ordered sternly as Peyton groaned and followed him.
Serenity
After almost watching some drama go down in the hallway between the two female students Melody June Taylor and Peyton Reid, Serenity went to math class as Carter walked beside her, carrying his homework assignment and textbook in his backpack.
"I don't know what was going on with those two." Carter commented.
"The way I'm seeing it, the blondie wanted to start up trouble for herself." said Serenity.
Arriving for their math class, Serenity sat in the middle row as Carter sat down in the front row as he took his homework and textbook out of his backpack.
"Did you do your homework last night, Carter?" she asked.
"I did. And I was able to finish my homework without asking for help." he replied.
"That's good to hear. If you need help, I'm right here." she offered.
"Mr. Crane and Ms. Verona. Save the conversation for later after school."
"Sorry." Carter muttered.
While reading the textbook, Serenity recalled seeing Melody with Adam yesterday after school since Serenity wanted to ask Adam to hang out with her. She then wondered if Melody has feelings for Adam.
"Ms. Verona. Concentrate on your assignment please."
Serenity shifted her focus back on her assignment as she read the questions. She glanced over at Carter, who's trying to think of an answer on one of the questions. She was about to ask him if he needed some help, but he jotted down the answer.
'Looks like Carter doesn't need help. I'll ask him later if he struggles.' she thought.
"Before everyone leaves, there is a math test next week. Review what we've going through so far this week, memorize the answers, because there will be questions that is not from the textbook. You will receive marks based on your knowledge."
'Just what I need. Math test and biology pop quiz next week. Need to study hard and memorize everything.' she thought.
Archie Simpson's Confidental Student Files #2
Student Name: Melody June Taylor
Family: Nick Taylor (Brother), Elaine Taylor (Mother), and Vincent Taylor (Father)
Medical Conditions: N/A
Notes: Melody is one of the most female students who has strong interets in high school. But like with my student Adam Hawthorne, she's eager to make some new friends. Although, based on what I've seen in the hallway, Melody has her first conflict with troubled and rebel student Peyton Reid. Like Adam, I'm not certain if Melody will graduate high school with the other ninth graders. For some reason, Melody reminded me of my step-daughter Emma Nelson when she got into a conflict with my former student Paige Michalchuk, but they had worked things out and became friends. And now I feel uncertain if Melody and Peyton will work things out. But more on that later. Like Adam, Melody has a lot to figure out if she wants to graduate high school in grade twelve.
And that is it for the eighth chapter for today. So what do you guys think so far? Love it? Hate it? Melody now has her first conflict with Peyton just like Adam's conflict with Ethan. In the next chapter, I will stop switching up the character perspectives and more of the confidential student files.
