A/N Hey, guys. Welcome back to another chapter of the Degrassi Welcome Back Home Submit Your Own Character series. So first off, happy month of August, I hope you guys are having a safe summer break, being good, and getting vaccinated. Second, I want to thank some of you guys for your amazing support so far. And third, this is the tenth chapter of the series, and this takes place one week later. So, this is the tenth chapter, and here we go.
Song of the Day: Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes
A week has passed by for the new and returning students and some of them had decided to sign up for extracirrcular activities, hoping to see whatever was offered for them. Adam was on FaceTime with his godsister Arlene Takahashi, who is also a geek like him. Adam, Brianna, and their parents had found out that Arlene had moved back to Japan for a while because her grandmother has fallen ill.
"How's high school treating you so far?" she asked.
"Well, I don't know if you'll believe me, but I got my first conflict last week. My first conflict with a sophomore jock from gym class." he replied.
"O-m to the G. You're joking." she said.
"I'm not. And he happens to be a little brother of former student and alum Spinner Mason, who graduated a few years ago." he said.
Just then, Melody tapped Adam on the shoulder as he turned away from his phone and she was walking beside him, giving him one of her best smiles.
"Hey you." Melody greeted.
"Hey." Adam replied as he smiled back at her, making her blush a bit.
"Who are you FaceTiming with?" asked Melody.
"Melody, this is my Arlene Takahashi. And she's my godsister. And Arlene, this is Melody June Taylor, one of my new friends." Adam replied as he showed the screen to Melody.
"Hi, nice to meet you." said Arlene as she waved at Melody.
"Nice to meet you too, Arlene." Melody replied as she waved back.
"I have to go. The future of high school is calling us." said Adam.
"Take care, Adam." said Arlene.
"You too. Tell godmother and godfather I said hey." he said.
"Will do. And Melody, make sure you look after my godbrother." said Arlene.
"I will." said Melody.
"Go to sleep. It's probably late there in Japan." said Adam as he ended the FaceTime call.
"I didn't know you have a godfamily." said Melody.
"It's been kind of a secret I knew for a while. And Arlene was a student here in Degrassi before we came." he said.
"I really swear that high school is like a different world." she said.
"Right? I feel like going to schools are like a completely different world we live in." he said in agreement.
While walking with Melody, Adam could feel his heart beating faster. He wasn't sure if he has feelings for her since they only started out as friends last week.
'Do I have feelings for Melody? I don't want to keep denying myself.' he thought.
"Adam, math class is right here." Melody spoke to him, breaking him out of his thoughts.
"Oops, my bad." said Adam as he turned around and walked to math class.
"Good morning, everyone. I hope you did your homework on the weekend. Today, we'll be doing a pop quiz. Remember, you'll get top marks for it when you answer the questions carefully. If you miss out or didn't pass, I will give you a make-up test." Miss Emma Nelson commented before she continued, "So I'm gonna be collecting your homework assignment and I will be checking it when you guys get started on your pop quiz."
Just like that, Emma started collecting the homework from Adam, Melody, and the rest of their classmates as she handed out the pop quiz for them. Deciding not to compare the pop quizzes with the tests, Adam figured that Melody wouldn't need his help since no one is allowed to help others answer the questions on their pop quiz.
Meanwhile with Aisha, she was in history class doing a pop quiz as well. Doing the pop quiz with her is Carter, because they both have history class together. Aisha glanced at her little brother, who has no idea what a pop quiz is or how it works. She thinks to herself that he needs to figure things out on his own because he can't keep relying on her. And to her surprise as well as her brother and her classmates, their history teacher is Sean Cameron, another one of the Degrassi alums who was discharged from the army and returned to Toronto since then.
"Time's up! I'm gonna be going around taking your pop quizzes." Sean declared.
Aisha hated doing pop quizzes. She didn't know how long this would keep going until she and her classmates are tired of doing pop quizzes and she hoped that she won't have to do it again in the next semester or maybe when she's in junior year.
"Miss Crane, well done on getting your pop quiz done before everyone else." said Sean.
"Thank you, Mr. Cameron." said Aisha.
Half an hour later, the bell rang, ending the second period. Aisha, Carter, and their classmates gathered their notebooks as they went to their next class for the rest of the day.
"How do you think you did on your pop quiz?" asked Aisha.
"I think I did well, since I'm understanding a little bit well on what the pop quiz is and how it works in high school." Carter replied.
"You need to learn more about high school experience, Carter. It's not the same world when you were in public school." she commented.
"And how did the whole new world of high school treated you when you came here as a freshman?" he asked.
"Don't you take that tone with me, little brother. You don't need to keep asking me for help around high school." she replied.
"Good morning, students. We're hosting a back to school dance for the new and returning students this upcoming Friday. Make sure you get your tickets. I will be announcing more details in the next couple of days. Have a good day." Mr. Simpson announced on the PA system.
Back with Adam and Melody, having heard the announcement of the back to school dance for the new and returning students, Adam decided if he should ask Melody to go with him. And still feeling his heart beating, he finally decided to get the courage to ask her.
"Melody, do you want to go to the back to school dance with me this Friday?" he asked.
Melody blushed madly, and she didn't know if she heard it wrong or not. Her high school best friend, Adam Hawthorne, was asking her to go to the back to school dance with him.
"I would love to, Adam Hawthorne. Yes, I'll go to the school dance with you." she replied.
Unknown to them, their friend James McKay had also asked Janie to go to the school dance with him, and she nevertheless agreed. The freshman were about to experience the back to school dance they will never forget for the rest of their lives. Adam immediately thought about asking Melody out on a date, but he decides against it since they just became high shcool best friends for the past few days.
"Hey, do you want to hang out after school? Like do some homework together?" he asked.
"Unfortunately, I can't. I have to help my parents with some grocery shopping today since my brother is hanging out with his friends from university." she replied.
"Oh, I see. Perhaps another time." said Adam.
Just then, the bell rang, as the third period is about to start.
"I gotta get to class. I'll message you when I get home after I'm done with the grocery shopping, okay?" she said as she walked to biology class.
"Yeah, sure. I'll talk to you later." he replied, regretting that he had made an agreement as he walked to chemistry class.
'Great job, Adam. You should've known that she would be super busy today after school and not making time to hang out with you.' he thought.
After school ended, Adam went to his locker and stashed his given homework assignment in his backpack as he closed his locker and left the school. Walking over to the bike stand, he unlocks his bike as he got on his bike and went home. He now felt uncertain if he would ever get a chance to ask Melody out on a date.
Returning home, Adam opened the garage door and locked his bike before he closed the garage door as he walked to the front door and unlocked it with his keys. As he walked in, Chewie the cat trotted up to Adam as he bent down and petted the cat before he goes to his bedroom and removed his backpack and took the homework out.
Walking over to his computer desk, Adam turned on the table light as he opened the textbook and read the questions on his chemistry homework assignment. While he was working on his homework, his phone buzzed, he quickly puts down his pencil and checked the text message from Melody.
Melody - Hey, you. Sorry I had to ditch you. Are we still on for the back to school dance?
Adam - Yeah, we're still on. And no worries.
Melody - You're not mad at me for telling you I'm busy after school, are you? :(
Adam - No, don't be silly. I would never be mad at you.
Melody - That's good. Because I didn't know if you were gonna be mad at me or not.
Adam - You need any help with the homework today?
Melody - No, I can do it myself. But I will let you know if I need your help.
Adam - Hey, do you want to go out sometime? Like catch a movie?
Melody blushed, and she wasn't sure if she had read it wrong or not. Adam was asking her to go on a date with him. Feeling hesitant on pursuing a romantic relationship since her last one didn't end well for her, she decides to give herself a chance.
Melody - Sure, but after the school dance. I'll let you know when I'm free.
Adam - Awesome. But we're still on for the back to school dance this upcoming Friday.
Archie Simpson's Confidental Student Files #3
Student Name: Aisha Crane
Family: Denise (Mother), Aaron (father), Carter (younger brother), Tony (older brother)
Medical Conditions: N/A
Notes: Aisha is one of those students who has a deep secret. The question is, what is she hiding from me? Follow up on that later. Note, Aisha is born from a wealthy family. But for some odd reason, she reminded me of my former student Fiona Coyne, who came from a wealthy family, but Aisha is different. Based on what I know, Aisha is not afraid to challenge anyone who would try to take over her spot as a queen bee of Degrassi. But for now, the future lies in her hands. If Aisha reveals her long secret, this could go out and nobody would believe her. As of now, she needs to get good grades if she wants to graduate.
And that will be it for the tenth chapter for today. So what did you guys think? If you guys are wondering who Arlene Takahashi is, she's an actual character who appeared in a few episodes of Degrassi Season Fourteen. At first, I asked myself why she didn't appear in the next few episodes, then I looked up at Degrassi wiki, and the reason she didn't appear for the rest of the season is because her storyline had ended. I thought about what if Arlene was Adam's godsister in the SYOC. I know it's not the best idea I had since I started this SYOC a few months ago. But anyway, let me know what you guys thought of the tenth chapter in the reviews section and I'll be posting more soon. That reminds me, I recently posted my first crossover story of the anime series Bleach and the supernatural TV series Legacies, so you guys can check that out when you have the chance.
