Rin opens her eyes. She's shocked when she finds herself naked, and tied up by black tendrils. She struggles to break free, but fails.
"You can't escape," says a voice. Rin turns and sees the dark sword with one red eye staring at her; it's Bladix. "You belong to me, now and forever," he says. More dark tendrils appear, and lunge at Rin with deadly intent. She screams.
Rin bursts awake, sweating and panting. She finds herself in bed; just a bad dream.
"Not again," says Rin. She walks into the bathroom, rinses her face with water, and stares at herself in the mirror.

The next day at a movie theater in town. The newest romantic drama is playing on the screen. The audience is packed. Rin, Saki and Aya sit in the front row.
On the screen, the female lead runs through a park in the pouring rain, crying. The male lead chases after her, grabs her hand and brings her into a hug. The female lead weeps into his chest. They embrace in the rain. Saki and Aya watch the scene with tears in their eyes; Rin watches with a blank expression.
The male lead wipes the female lead's tears, though her face is still wet from the rain. They smile at each other, lean in close and kiss. Everyone in the audience applauds; everyone except Rin. Instead, she touches her lips. That would never happen to me, she thinks.
Later, the three girls leave the theater and head home. Saki and Aya can't stopped talking about the movie.
"That was so romantic," says Saki.
"Yes. My heart was pounding the entire time," agrees Aya.
"I hope Zastin will kiss me like that someday," says Saki.
"I'm sure he will, Miss Saki," assures Aya.
"What'd you think of the movie, Rin?" asks Saki. Rin is distracted by a movie poster they pass by; "Space Pirates 5," one of those schlocky, sci-fi B-movies that both she and Rito tend to like. "Rin?" asks Saki.
"Apologies, Miss Saki. My mind was elsewhere," says Rin.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" says a male teenage thug. Two more thugs accompany him as they approach the girls. Saki gets annoyed, Aya gets scared, and Rin gets ready. "A trio of cuties from the looks of it," continues Thug 1.
"What do you say you girls hang with us for a while?" says Thug 2.
"I wouldn't be caught dead with a bunch of barbaric delinquents. Find someone else to hit on," says Saki as she starts away. Thug 3 blocks her.
"Ah, come on, babe. Don't be like that," says Thug 3, about to touch her shoulder. Rin seizes his hand and twists it backwards. Thug 3 yelps and backs off.
"You heard Miss Saki. Get lost, and I won't harm you," warns Rin.
"Why, you. Get her!" yells Thug 3 as he and the other two thugs attack. Five seconds later, all three of them are on the ground, completely thrashed and groaning in pain. Rin, Saki and Aya walk away.
"That's my Rin. Always protecting us," says Saki.
"Yes. Thank you, Rin," says Aya.
"You're welcome," says Rin with a gentle smile.
"You're a freak," says Thug 1. The girls turn around, and see the thugs picking themselves up. "A girl who can fight like that? Don't you know guys prefer girls who are more feminine? Good luck finding yourself a boyfriend, freak. Come on, let's go," he says, storming off with the other two thugs.
"They just had to get the last word in, didn't they? Forget about those lowlifes, Rin. Let's head home," says Saki, touching Rin's shoulder.
"Yes," agrees Rin, and they all start walking. Though Rin doesn't show it, it's clear to both Saki and Aya that she's hurt by the thug's words. They trade looks, wondering what they can do. And then, the lightbulbs over their heads go off. They smile at each other, both getting the same idea.

Later at Saki's mansion, the sun begins to set. Out in the front courtyard, Rin wears a training kimono, holding a wooden shinai. She practices a few kendo moves. Her forms and techniques are precise.
Feminine? thinks Rin. Just because I'm stronger than them doesn't mean I'm not feminine. I don't need a boyfriend, and I'm not a freak. That's right. I AM NOT A FREAK! Amidst her internal turmoil, she strikes a statue, breaking her shinai in two.
Rin takes a breath, and picks up the broken shinai. Then she notices tears falling from her eyes. She quickly wipes them away, and takes another breath. "I think that's enough training for today," she says to herself.
Inside Saki's enormous bedroom, Saki and Aya are going through several girly outfits, tossing them everywhere.
"What about this one?" says Aya, holding up a red dress.
"Mhmm, too simple. She'll need something with a little more pop," says Saki.
"You're so perceptive, Miss Saki," says Aya.
"What's going on?" says Rin, entering the bedroom.
"Oh, nothing, Rin. Just getting ready for your next date with Rito Yuki, that's all," answers Saki.
"My next d-date with…?" blushes Rin.
"Double date, actually. Miss Saki had the brilliant idea of you and her going out with Yuki and Zastin together," says Aya.
"Indeed. I'll get to further my romance with my beloved Zastin while supporting your love for Yuki, Rin. Two birds with one stone," says Saki with dazzling eyes.
"I'd expect nothing less from the queen of romance," praises Aya.
"My love for-wait! How did it come to this?" panics Rin.
"Also, you heard what Dr. Ryouko said. If Yuki's perversion IS miraculously coming to an end, then this is the perfect time for you to strike, Rin," says Saki.
"But I…I don't…feel that way…" says Rin. Suddenly, Saki pushes her hand in between Rin's breasts. "Ay! Miss Saki, what are you doing?" she says.
"Your voice says no, but your heart says otherwise," jokes Saki. "This is for your own good, Rin. Don't make me have to order you to do it," she says. Rin trembles, trapped.

Meanwhile at Rito's house. Rito, Momo and Nemesis are gathered inside Lala's bedroom. Lala and Peke stare at them with bewildered looks.
"Uh, can you guys run that by me again?" asks Lala.
"Agreed. Even I'm as confused as Miss Lala," says Peke.
"Long story short, Princess, I'd like you to build a weapon for Rito. One he can use to kill Stem," says Nemesis.
"Whoa, whoa, Nemesis! I never said anything about killing the guy," says Rito.
"Fufu, I'm only teasing. I know you don't have it in you to kill anyone," says Nemesis.
"That's our Rito. And as for Stem, we can always have Zastin lock him up in some super deluxe, space prison," says Momo.
"You guys have those? No, never mind. Lala, about the weapon," says Rito.
"If it's a gun you want, I've got plenty," says Lala. She claps her hands, and the wall nearest her bed slides open, revealing an assortment of futuristic guns. Rito and Momo stare with wide eyes and slacked jaws.
"Impressive, fufu," says Nemesis.
"You had those in my house this whole time?" asks Rito.
"It's okay, they're non-lethal. I never liked inventing or testing weapons, because of all the harm they could cause. I only made these in case of emergencies," says Lala.
"Haven't you been paying attention the last year?" jokes Rito, sarcastically. Momo inspects the weapons.
"These are amazing, Big Sis, but I don't think any of them will be powerful enough against that Stem jerk. Believe me, he's a lot tougher than he looks," says Momo.
"And that's why you want Miss Lala to build a new weapon for Rito? One that can contain Nemesis' dark matter?" says Peke.
"That's right. While Rito's been training hard, he's still unable to control my power," says Nemesis, turning her arm into a blade. "Until he can do the things I can do, he'll need some sort of device to do the fighting for him," she says, returning her arm to normal.
"Big Sis, what Rito needs is something small and light enough he can carry on his person at all times. Something Nemesis can channel her dark matter energy into," says Momo.
"And if Stem attacks me again, I can activate the device and manipulate the stored dark matter any way I can. Does that make sense?" asks Rito. Literal question marks appear above Lala's head.
"Not a bit," exclaims Lala with a big smile. Rito, Momo and Nemesis all fall onto the ground. "But don't worry, I can make it," she says.
"You can?" asks Rito. Lala kneels down and touches his face.
"Of course. If there's anything I can do to protect you, I'll do it," says Lala.
"Lala," says Rito. He and Lala lean in for a kiss.
"Ooh, what's this do?" says Nemesis, pushing her finger onto an elastic, white rope.
"Wait, is that…?" asks Rito.
"Twisty Rope 3.0," says Lala.
"Nemesis, don't!" yells Rito. Too late. The rope activates and ties up Nemesis, binding and constricting her most sensitive parts.
"Ah! What-what is this? Ah!" yelps Nemesis as she moans in displeasure. Rito flushes red and covers his face. Momo can't help but laugh at Nemesis' misfortune.
"Serves you right," says Momo.
"Pretty cool, isn't it? Especially since I made some adjustments from the previous model," says Lala, proud of herself, completely oblivious to the situation at hand.
"Now's not the time, Lala. Help me get it off her. You help too, Momo," says Rito.
"Ugh, fine," pouts Momo.
000000
Later, Rito and Momo walk down the stairs. Momo can't stop giggling.
"It's not funny, Momo," says Rito.
"Yes, it is. At least, it was until we got her out. By the way, have you thought about what I said?" asks Momo.
"About what?" asks Rito.
"If you limit yourself to just Nemesis, you won't get any stronger. You need to start training with her as well," says Momo.
"Yeah, but I'm pretty sure she hates my guts. There's no way she'll ever train me," says Rito.
"Couldn't hurt to ask. Besides, you wanna make her part of your harem too, don't you?" says Momo, smirking. Rito's face goes red, and he stops at the bottom of the stairs.
"Momo, shh, shh," says Rito.
"I'm just kidding. But…I'm also just trying to help," says Momo, taking Rito's hands.
"Huh?" asks Rito. Momo lowers her head with a sorrowful expression.
"I've got a real bad feeling about Stem, and I just want to be sure you're ready for him. After all, if anything were to happen to you, I'd…" says Momo. Rito touches her shoulders, making her perk up.
"I'm gonna be fine, Momo. I know you're just trying to help, and I really appreciate it. I promise I'll make this up to you somehow. As for her, I'm still hesitant, but I'll give her a call and ask her to train me," says Rito. Momo smiles and hugs him.
"Thank you, Rito," says Momo.
"Guys, time for dinner," yells Mikan from the kitchen.
"Well, guess I'll go grab the others. Hopefully, Nemesis is caught in another one of Big Sis' erotic inventions," jokes Momo, heading back upstairs. Rito heads into the kitchen. Celine plays with her silverware, waiting for the food. She drops her spoon onto the floor. Rito grabs another spoon off the table.
"Here, Celine. You can play with mine," says Rito, offering Celine the spoon. She happily accepts it and resumes playing. Rito picks up the dirty spoon off the floor, and thinks to himself. Now that I think about it, Rin WAS also in my dream. But something tells me she's not gonna be as easy to confess to as the others were. Then again, should I even confess at all? How do I really feel about her? He puts the dirty spoon in the sink, and grabs a clean one out of the drawer.
"Hey, Mikan," says Rito.
"What's up?" asks Mikan, setting the food on the table.
"You have Rin Kujou's cell number, don't you?" asks Rito.
"Yeah. Come to think of it, I should give her a call. It's been a while since we last-wait," says Mikan, turning to Rito with a suspicious gaze. "Why?" she asks.
"Oh, well, uh, hehe," says Rito.

The following day at Rin's house. Inside the dojo, Rin and Rito stand apart from one another, both wearing training kimonos.
"I'm sorry to inconvenience you like this, Kujou-Senpai. I'm really grateful for you taking the time to teach me," says Rito with a bow.
"Don't mention it, Rito Yuki," says Rin. Saki and Aya watch from behind the doorway.
"Oh, this is too perfect. To think, I was trying to get Rin to ask out Rito Yuki, but he ended up asking her instead," says Saki.
"And for kendo practice, no less. The stars of love must be aligning for you, Rin," says Aya.
"To be honest, I'm a little flattered," Rin says to Rito. "You've been targeted by a dangerous alien, and you're coming to me, a fellow human, to learn self-defense. Though honestly, I don't know how much help I can be," she says.
"That's not true at all, Senpai. As far as I'm concerned, you're one of the strongest and most helpful people I know. After all, your Tenjou-Senpai's bodyguard. You've kept her and Fujisaki-Senpai safe ever since you were kids. And you helped Mikan when she wasn't feeling well. There's no one else I'd rather learn from," says Rito. Rin gasps and slightly blushes.
"Not bad, Rito Yuki. Come on, Rin. Say something," whispers Saki.
"You're…surprisingly kind. Despite your clumsy nature," says Rin.
"Uh, yeah. I'm really sorry about that," says Rito.
Though to be honest, he hasn't been as clumsy as usual, thinks Rin. What if Dr. Mikado was right? Maybe he has stopped falling onto girls. Wait, why am I thinking this? It doesn't concern me. It's not like I like him or anything.
"Senpai?" asks Rito. Rin clears her throat, and goes into training mode.
"Enough talk. Let's begin," says Rin as she tosses Rito a shinai.
"Uh, right," says Rito, taking a stance. Rin notices the look in his eyes; a warrior's look.
Wow, he's serious about this, she thinks. Then she attacks.
000000
Two hours later. Rito lies on the floor, a little banged up, and sweating profusely. Meanwhile, Rin stands without a scratch on her.
"Get up. Let's try it one more time," orders Rin.
"Oh, man," says Rito, forcing himself to stand. Rin takes a stance, then she lunges at Rito. He counters the strike, then goes for her head. She spins her sword within her hand, blocks Rito's attack, and strikes him on the head.
"Ow," says Rito, dropping to the floor, massaging his head. "How'd you do that?" he asks.
"I've studied kendo since I was five. All it takes is practice and commitment. Now get ready," says Rin, about to attack.
"Whoa, wait a second," panics Rito, still on the floor.
"Your opponent won't wait," says Rin, then she advances. Rito quickly stands and parries the attack, but then he trips. Time seems to slow down as Rito starts falling towards Rin, his face about to land in her pelvis and his hands about to land on her breasts.
Oh, no, not again, thinks Rin. Saya and Aya watch with worry.
"I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened," whispered Saki.
But then, Rito stomps his foot on the floor, stopping himself from falling onto Rin or touching any part of her. Their faces are inches apart, both flushed from the close proximity. Rito quickly backs away and bows.
"I'm sorry, Senpai. It was an accident, I swear," says Rito. Rin blinks twice. Rito didn't grope her, and yet he's still apologizing. Rin stifles a tiny giggle.
"You really are clumsy, Rito Yuki. Perhaps it's time we call it a day," says Rin.
"Uh, okay. Thank you again for all your help," says Rito.
And perhaps he really has stopped falling onto girls, she thinks Rin. Even so, that was too close a call. If we keep this up, he'll fall on me for sure. I don't know why, but I want to believe he's doing better. Rito returns the shinai to the shelf on the wall, and then yelps in pain.
"Are you okay?" asks Rin.
"Oh, yeah. Just a little sore, that's all. I'm not use to exercising like this. But you said you've been doing it since you were five, right?" asks Rito.
"Indeed," says Rin.
"You're incredible, Senpai," says Rito, once again making Rin blush. "Thanks again for letting me borrow this kimono. I'll go change now," he says, walking into the other room.
"Uh, okay," says Rin. With Rito in the other room, Saki and Aya hustle into the dojo, grab Rin, and pull her away into the hall, much to her confusion.
"Miss Saki, Aya, what're you doing?" asks Rin.
"What're you doing, Rin? You can't let him go home looking all filthy like that. Here's what you have to do," says Saki. Then she whispers something into Rin's ear. Rin gasps, and her face turns bright red.
"Are you crazy? There's no way I could…" says Rin, but both Saki and Aya give her a thumbs-up, insisting she go through with it.
In the other room, as Rito undoes his kimono, he starts to think. Kujou-Senpai really is incredible. I wonder if she'll train me again if I ask her. After all, I still need to better myself before I can face Stem. Though if Kujou-Senpai does keep training me, we'll be spending more time together. And that means I can…He starts to blush.
"Rito Yuki!" yells Rito from behind the door.
"Yes?" says Rito as he bolts up, terrified.
"M-May I come in?" asks Rin. Rito realizes he was so lost in thought, he only removed his kimono halfway. He quickly puts it back on.
"Uh, sure," says Rito. He turns and looks at Rin as she opens the door. She's blushing madly and her legs are trembling.
"Y-You can't go home just yet. P-Please take a shower first," mumbles Rin.
"EEEEEHHHHHHHH?" yells Rito.
000000
Rito is alone in the shower, sitting on a stool, letting the water wash over him. What kind of world am I living in? he thinks. I mean, I definitely need a shower after all that, but still, to think I'd be showering at Kujou-Senpai's place. This is just like what happened at Risa's. But Kujou-Senpai's nothing like her, so I shouldn't worry. Even so, I should get out soon. At this rate, things will move too fast between me and her.
Just then, the door opens. Rito's body goes still. He can hear voices arguing. Then he hears the door slam shut, followed by silence. His heart beats faster with every passing second. There's no way, he thinks. Against his better judgment, Rito slowly turns around and sees a girl standing there by the shower door. It's Rin, wearing a skimpy bikini. She's so embarrassed, her body turns as red as her face.
"R-Rito Yuki, I thought, erm, that I should, erm, w-w-w-wash your back for you," says Rin.
Rito stares at her, absolutely transfixed. He's so overwhelmed by her beauty that he forgets he's naked. Thinking fast, Rito quickly turns the faucet to its hottest setting. The scalding water hits the floor, filling the room with an enormous cloud of steam, obscuring Rin's view of his naked body. He had a feeling this would happen, and he won't fall for the same trick twice.
"Rito Yuki, what are you doing?" asks Rin. Under the cover of the steam, Rito quickly wraps a towel around his waist. Then he turns off the water. The steam slowly dissipates. Rito and Rin stare at each other, though Rin is still embarrassed.
"Kujou-Se…Rin," he says. Rin does a double-take, surprised he called her by her first name. "You are so beautiful," he says, face flushed. Rin gasps in surprise. "But Tenjou-Senpai and Fujisaki-Senpai are the ones making you do this, aren't they?" he asks. Rin lowers her head. She doesn't answer. Nor does she have to.
"I'm sorry, Rito Yuki. I won't inconvenience you any further," she says. Then she turns around, and reaches for the door handle. But before she can open it, Rito grabs her hand, stopping her. She looks him right in the eye. He has a serious look on his face. Their half-naked bodies are inches away from each other.
"Listen to me, Rin. I admire your loyalty to Tenjou-Senpai. You once told me that she wanted you and I to hook up, and I couldn't possibly imagine why. After all, I'm a worthless guy who causes trouble and can't protect anyone. But you're not like that at all. You're strong and brave, but also gentle and compassionate, like when you helped Mikan. You're so obedient to Tenjou-Senpai that you'd force yourself to wear a bikini and wash a man's back. And I meant what I said just now; you really are beautiful. And if I'm being completely honest, even though I don't deserve you, the idea of you and I hooking up fills me with joy," confesses Rito.
"Rito Yuki," musters Rin.
"I respect how far you'd go for Tenjou-Senpai's sake. But the truth is I want you to be happy. I want you to do things like go out on dates with me, teach me to fight or wash my back because you want to, not because you have to. And I know you'd never do any of those things with me, because you don't like me, and I don't blame you. I'm really sorry for all the trouble I've caused you in the past, and I'm sorry you're being forced to spend time with a worthless guy like me. I understand if you never wanna see me again," says Rito. Several silent, awkward moments pass. Rin swallows, and musters the courage to speak.
"You're not worthless, Rito," she says. Rito is taken aback; she just called him by his first name without adding his surname. "Don't ever say you can't protect anyone. You protected me from that demonic sword, remember? I was really scared that day. If it wasn't for you, I don't know what would've happened. Contrary to what you may believe, there aren't many people who would've saved me like you did. And now it's your life that's in danger, so if there's any way I can help you, I will. Because that is what I want. Don't you feel the same?" she finishes.
"Rin. Yes, it is. I want you to keep training," says Rito.
"Then I will," says Rin with a smile.
"Thank you," says Rito, smiling back.
"And," gulps Rin. "As for that date we went on, while it was Miss Saki's doing, I actually, unexpectedly enjoyed it. I've devoted my life to serving as her bodyguard. I never cared much for tedious things like dating or romance. But honestly, even though you kept falling onto me that day, I was happy. Because for the first time in a long time, being with you made me feel like an ordinary girl, not a freak. Then you go and say sweet things like I'm compassionate and beautiful, and you assume I don't like you? That is, yes, I didn't like you at first. In fact, for the longest time, I hated you," she says.
"Ugh, thought as much," says Rito.
"But I don't feel that way anymore. Although, I can't say I like you enough to wash your back while wearing a bikini," says Rin.
"Yeah, this is a little crazy," says Rito. He and Rin start to laugh, feeling ridiculous. "Maybe we should continue this after we get some clothes on," he says.
"Agreed," says Rin.
And just like that, at the worst possible moment, Rito's towel slides off. Both he and Rin hear it drop to the floor. And against Rin's better judgment, she looks down. Both she and Rito flush bright red. Rin screams and slaps Rito.
000000
Ten minutes later. Rito sits on the outdoor porch, wearing his clothes, nursing his face. Rin sits next to him, and offers him a bottle of water.
"I'm sorry. I know that wasn't your fault," says Rin.
"Thank you," replies Rito as he takes the bottle. "By the way, I haven't seen Tenjou-Senpai or Fujisaki-Senpai around," he says.
"After they shoved me into the shower room, they took off. They wanted to give us some…sexy alone time," says Rin, blushing mad. Water spews from Rito's mouth. "You gonna make it?" asks Rin.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good," says Rito, wiping his mouth. Rin giggles.
"You know, this was just like when I brought Mikan over. We showered, sat on this porch and enjoyed drinks. And now her big brother is here doing the same. Small world, I suppose" says Rin.
"I'm really glad you and her became friends. I know she gets lonely sometimes, so I'm happy she has someone you like around. I know this is the thousandth time I've said it, but thank you," says Rito. Rin is silent for a moment, then she starts to blush.
"Hey, Rito," says Rin. "Did you…did you mean what you said back there? About you being happy if we hooked up?" she says.
Rito blinks like crazy. No way! I haven't even told her about the harem plan yet. Don't tell me she's already agreeing to it? Calm down, Rito. Just calm down and tell her the truth, he thinks.
"Yes, I did," confesses Rito. Rin blushes, and shifts in her seat. Gone is her stoic, aloof persona; now she's just acting like a teenage girl. "But there's something I should tell you," says Rito.
"Is it important?" says Rin.
"Yes. It's about what I plan to do after I've taken care of this Stem jerk," says Rito. Rin sees the look in his eyes, and marvels at how determined he is.
"Well, if it's that big, how 'bout telling me on our next date?" says Rin.
"Huh? Our next d-d-date?" says Rito.
"You don't want to?" asks Rin.
"No! No! Of course, I do. I mean, yes, I'd like to take you out on another date, Rin," says Rito.
"I'd like that as well, Rito. I really would," says Rin. Then she stands up and walks a few feet onto the grass. "But before we go any further with this, I need to remind you that I've decided to be Miss Saki's bodyguard for the rest of my life," she says.
"I understand," says Rito.
"It's not that I don't like you. Because I…I kind of do. Maybe. But this is all so new to me, and it's making me confused. I swore I'd stay by Miss Saki's side forever, and I just don't know if there'll be room for anything else such as dating. So I'd like to experience it now while I still can. And…I'd like to experience it with you," confesses Rin.
"Rin," says Rito. Suddenly, Rin thrusts her finger into Rito's face.
"But hear this!" says Rin. "If I feel for one second that I'm not enjoying myself, if you make even one perverted action, accidental or not, I will make you regret it. Understood?" she says.
"Yes, ma'am!" says Rito, terrified. Rin lowers her finger and starts laughing. Rito laughs too. "In that case, why not make it a double-date?" he asks.
"A double-date?" asks Rin. No way, she thinks. Is he thinking the same thing as Miss Saki?
"You've never experienced one of those before, right? I was thinking we could bring Tenjou-Senpai and Zastin along," says Rito.
"Where did this come from?" asks Rin.
"I'm not really sure. But I mean, she did go out of her way to get you and I together. And although her methods were a little extreme, I know her heart was in the right place. So I'd like to return the favor and help her get together with Zastin. Of course, I could use your help. What do ya say?" says Rito. Rin responds with a smile.

The next day at Rito's house. Rito, Nemesis and Momo gather in the backyard with Lala and Peke.
"Ta-da! I give you the Neme-Watches!" says Lala, enthusiastically presenting a pair of white wristwatches. "Go ahead, Rito. Try them on," she says, taking Rito's hand and placing the watches in his palm.
"Uh, thanks, Lala," says Rito. He ties the watches onto both his wrists. "Wait, there's no clocks on these things," he says.
"Yeah, they don't tell time, but I couldn't think of another name for them," says Lala, innocently smacking her head with her tongue sticking out. "Now, Nemesis, channel your energy into both watches," she says.
"Very well," complies Nemesis. She touches both of Rito's watches, and siphons her energy into them. The white watches gradually turn black, and then a small green dot starts blinking on both of them.
"Okay, they're fully charged. With these, you've got two pockets of dark matter energy you can use at your disposal with just a flick of the wrist," says Lala.
"Nicely done, Big Sis," says Momo.
"Wait. How exactly do these work?" asks Rito, gesturing to the watches.
"It's all in your head, Rito. Just imagine what it is you want to do, and the watches will do the rest," says Lala.
"Here, Rito," says Nemesis, picking up a small rock. "I'm gonna throw this rock into the air, and you're gonna try shooting it with a blast of dark matter," she says.
"Huh?" says Rito, perplexed. "But that's-"
"Here I go," says Nemesis, tossing the stone high into the sky.
"Go on, Rito. I wanna see my gadgets in action. Blast that puny rock," says Lala.
"Geez, alright," moans Rito. He lifts his right hand, eyeballs the rock as it descends, and concentrates. Suddenly, a wave of dark matter energy fires out of his hand, like something out of Dragonball Z. The blast strikes the small rock, resulting in a massive and blinding explosion. Rito and Momo stare in shock. Nemesis takes a picture of the explosion with a camera. Lala and Peke dance and cheer.
"It works! It works!" says Lala.
"Great job as always, Miss Lala," says Peke.
"Well, it certainly packs a punch," says Momo. Though she may have spoken too soon, because the right watch starts blinking red. Lala rushes over, takes Rito's arm and examines the watch.
"Oh, no. Out of power already?" says Lala.
"If the Neme-Watches drain dry after just one attack, Rito's in trouble," says Nemesis, channeling more of her power into the watch, recharging it until it blinks green again.
"Guess I still got more work to do," says Lala, feeling down. Although Rito's dumbfounded by the watch's power, he senses Lala's disappointment in herself, and wants to cheer her up.
"Lala, these watches are perfect," says Rito. "It's like there's a part of you, two parts, that'll be with me at all times, protecting me. And you made them in just one day. You should feel proud of yourself. I know I am," he says.
"Oh, Rito," says Lala with dazzling eyes and the brightest smile. Rito smiles back. Then Momo sneaks up behind Rito.
"Kiss her already, Rito," whispers Rito.
"Huh?" says Rito, embarrassed.
"She worked really hard, and deserves thanks. What better thanks than a kiss? Go on, do it," whispers Momo, pushing Rito closer to Lala. Then Momo grabs both Nemesis and Peke to give them some privacy.
"Come on, you two," says Momo.
"Oh, and it was just about to get good," says Nemesis as she's dragged into the house, leaving Rito and Lala alone together. They smile at each other, and then share a kiss, unaware that Nana is watching them from the second-floor window with a surprised expression.

A cool night at an extravagant, indoor restaurant located on the top of a skyscraper.
Rito and Zastin sit at a table for four, both wearing suits. Rito feels uncomfortable being in a place surrounded by so many rich folk. I can't believe Tenjou-Senpai arranged this place for the double-date. It's not my scene at all, he thinks.
"I must say, Rito Yuki, this is genius, especially for you," says Zastin.
"What do you mean?" asks Rito.
"This is about Stem, right? You plan on using yourself as bait to lure him out. And when he arrives, I'll be right here to stop him. That's why you asked me to come along, isn't it? Pure genius," says Zastin.
"Uh, sure. Whatever you say," says Rito. Then he checks both Neme-Watches, hidden under his sleeves on both wrists.
"Hey, you two!" says Saki, overjoyed. Rin tags along. They both wear gorgeous dresses befitting of royal princesses, catching the eyes of many male patrons. While Saki thrives on the attention, Rin feels uncomfortable. Rito stares at Rin, completely mesmerized. "Hope you weren't waiting long," continues Saki. Both Rito and Zastin rise from their seats, showing respect.
"Not at all, Lady Saki. We only just arrived," says Zastin.
"Th-That's right. Good evening, Tenjou-Senpai, Rin," says Rito, flashing her a smile.
"Good evening, Rito," says Rin, returning the gesture. Saki clocks the exchange, and her face lights up.
"Oh, Zastin, I bet the view from the outdoor balcony is just spectacular. Why don't we check it out before we order our meals?" says Saki. Before anyone can protest, she's already wrapping her arm around Zastin's and escorting him to the balcony door, giving Rin a thumbs-up. Rin sighs as she and Rito take their seats.
"Thank you for doing this. I've known Miss Saki forever, and I've never seen her this happy," says Rin.
"No problem," says Rito. All of a sudden, neither of them have anything to talk about. Rin shifts in her seat. Rito twiddles his thumbs. They look around. It's awkward.
What's the matter with me? thinks Rin. Why do I feel so nervous around him? And why's my heart beginning to throb? I admit it, I like him a little bit. But just a teensy, tiny, little bit. So why do I feel this way?
"Hey, Rin, did you catch that awesome B-movie on TV last night?" asks Rito.
"You mean Space Pirates 3? Yeah, and then I watched Part 4 right afterwards! I love those movies!" says Rin with excitement, completely forgetting her earlier dismay.
"Me too. Did you hear they're reshooting the fifth one in America?" asks Rito.
"Yeah, and it's due for release next summer! I think it'll be the best one yet," says Rin.
"Yeah, I can hardly wait," says Rito, and then he realizes something. "Tenjou-Senpai and Zastin sure are taking their time," he says.
"Well, you don't really think she stole him away just to catch the view, do you?" asks Rin, coyly.
"Wait, is she gonna confess? Wow. Good luck, Tenjou-Senpai," says Rito. Rin looks at Rito's hand resting on the table. She gulps. Then she slowly slides her hand across the table, and touches his. Rito is taken aback, but then he opens his hand and grasps hers.
"I'm sorry. I know my hands are quite big and rough for a girl. Because of that, I've always been too scared to do this with a boy. Pathetic, isn't it?" says Rin.
"It's not pathetic at all. Besides, I think your hands are really soft and warm," says Rito.
"Rito," Rin says with a smile. They both stare at each other for a moment. Rito takes a deep breath and prepares himself.
"Listen, Rin, there's something I want you to know," says Rito. Rin tilts her head.
Outside on the balcony, Saki and Zastin watch them from behind the glass doors.
"How much longer should we wait, Lady Saki?" asks Zastin.
"Please just give them another moment," says Saki. Zastin appears worried. Stem could attack at any moment, and Zastin wouldn't be able to help Rito. They watch Rito tell Rin about the harem plan; she reacts with surprise. While spying on them, Saki looks at Zastin, getting all flustered.
"Say, Zastin, there's something I want to tell you," she says. Zastin looks at her with confusion.
"That's…I don't have the words," says Rin, after Rito explains himself.
"I know, I know! I don't plan on marrying Lala or anyone else right now. Not to mention becoming king of anything. I still have a lot to learn before I can take on that kind of responsibility. Besides, I'd at least like to get through high school first," says Rito.
"Rito, why are you telling me this?" asks Rin.
"Because I," starts Rito. He wants to spit it out, but feels ashamed to, having just told Rin about the harem plan. He lowers his head, defeated. "Rin…I like you," he says. Rin blinks twice, and her cheeks turn rosy red. Rito continues to speak without looking at her. "You said you'd stay by Tenjou-Senpai's side forever, and I don't wanna come between you two. But on the off-chance you develop any interest in romance in the near future, even if it's decades from now, I'll wait for you. I want to be with you, Rin. You don't have to answer me now, but I just wanted you to know, I'll be waiting," he says, then he finally looks Rin in the eye. Her expression is unreadable.
"Rito…I…" mumbles Rin. "Please excuse me," she bolts up and heads for the restroom before Rito can get a word in.
Oh, crap. Please tell me I didn't just screw up, thinks Rito. Then he feels someone smack the back of his head. "Ouch," he says, massaging his head and turning around, only to be greeted by Saki's fiery glare.
"What. Did. You. Do?" asks Saki, angry.
"Tenjou-Senpai! I, uh, I didn't, I mean…" fumbles Rito. Saki seizes him by the collar.
"Get this through that thick, perverted head of yours, Rito Yuki. That girl is my best friend. This is a side of her I've never seen before, and I want her to enjoy it, even if it's with you. But if you dare break her heart, I'll never forgive you," threatens Saki. Rito sweats bullets, and he gulps. Then he takes a deep breath, and gently removes Saki's hand from his collar.
"You have my word, Tenjou-Senpai," says Rito, confidently. Saki offers him the tiniest of smiles. "By the way, where's Zastin?" he asks. Saki immediately flushes.
"Oh, well, he's, uh," says Saki. Rito looks to Zastin out on the balcony, hunched over the railing, shaking like a leaf. "I may have told him how I felt, and he may have gotten a little overwhelmed. He's still trying to find the words," she says.
"I see," says Rito. Zastin, you wuss, he thinks.
"I'm gonna go check on Rin. I'll leave the food orders to you," says Saki, hurrying into the women's restroom.
"Oh, but, I…" starts Rito, but Saki's already gone. He ganders at the overpriced food on the menu, and his face falls.
"What can I get you tonight, Rito Yuki?" says a waiter's voice.
"Oh, I think I need another-huh?" says Rito before stopping. He lowers the menu and looks up at the waiter.
"Hello," says Stem, standing before Rito, wearing a waiter's uniform. Before Rito can bolt from his seat, Stem kicks over the table, grabs him by the throat, and lifts him in the air. The scene stirs the whole restaurant into a commotion. The patrons scream and back away. Rito's legs dangle as he struggles to breath. Stem unsheathes his energy sword. "And goodbye," he says, about to stab Rito.
"NO!" yells a voice from across the room. Stem and Rito turn to see Rin emerging from the crowd of terrified patrons. Stem clocks her worried expression, realizing how important Rito must be to her. Saki joins her.
"Release him, Stem," orders Zastin, returning inside from the outdoor balcony. His suit illuminates and transforms back into his usual armor.
"Ugh. Can I please just kill this one guy without any more surprises?" complains Stem. While he's distracted, Rito raises his left hand and shoots a dark matter blast point-blank right into Stem's chest, disintegrating his waiter disguise and blasting him across the room. He crashes into the wall, and a pile of rubble showers onto him. Rito hits the floor, sucking in great gulps of air. His left watch blinks yellow, already halfway empty. Everyone in the restaurant panics and runs for the exit; everyone except Rin and Saki. Stem bursts out of the pile of rubble. "Dark matter energy? That's new," says Stem, brushing some dirt off his shoulder. Zastin gets between Stem and Rito.
"Rito Yuki, you've done your part. Leave this place, and I'll do mine," says Zastin, drawing his green energy sword. Rito looks to Rin and Saki. His mind flashes back to the last time he encountered Stem, and how all of his friends got hurt protecting him.
"No," says Rito, making a stand. He focuses, and a sword made of dark matter appears in his hands. He takes a kendo stance. Rin watches him, amazed.
"What're you doing? Get outta here," says Zastin.
"No. Let him stay. After all, the more, the merrier," says Stem, transforming his left gun-arm into a sword-arm. A second energy sword unsheathes; now, he's got a sword in each hand, and he's facing two swordsmen.
"Rin, get Tenjou-Senpai outta here," says Rito.
"But, Rito-" says Rin.
"Go! I don't want you to get hurt," says Rito, looking at her with determined eyes and a gentle smile. "You said you'd protect her for the rest of your life, didn't you? So please, protect her, and allow me to protect you this one more time," he says. The way he looks at her make her blush even harder.
"She's not the one you should be protecting," says Stem, charging forward, and attacking Zastin and Rito at once. The three engage in a two-on-one sword fight. Despite being outnumbered, Stem doesn't waver one bit. Zastin has the experience and puts up a good fight; Rito struggles to hold his own. Rin appears visibly torn between helping Rito or getting Saki to safety. She curses under her breath, and takes Saki's hand.
"Let's go, Miss Saki," says Rin.
"Wait! Zastin!" yells Saki.
"Go with your friend, Lady Saki. And don't worry about us. We'll take care of this jerk no sweat," says Zastin while fighting Stem. With that, Rin and Saki head out of the restaurant.
The sword fight grows more intense. Rito can't match Stem's skill nor speed; his tight suit restricts his movements; his left watch starts blinking red, out of power; his right watch blinks yellow, halfway empty; his sword suddenly shrinks to half its size. Stem snickers and kicks Rito, sending him flying into the kitchen.
Outside in the main hall, Rin and Saki join the crowd of patrons clamoring towards the elevators. Rin notices the emergency stairs, which are wide open. She leads Saki to the door, and the two make their way down the stairs. Saki looks over the railing; the stairs are clear and safe. She stops, and turns to Rin.
"I've got this, Rin. You go back and help Rito Yuki," says Saki.
"What? No. I'm your bodyguard. I won't leave you," says Rin. Saki calmly touches her shoulders.
"This isn't an order. This is just a talk between girls. You have to make a choice, and I'll support whichever one you make. But make it from your heart," says Saki. Rin stares at her for a moment.
Back in the restaurant, Stem and Zastin continue their duel. Zastin swings low, and cuts at Stem's leg. Stem growls in pain, sheathes his left sword, and uncoils his energy whip; now he's armed with a sword and a whip. He walks forward, and lashes his whip at Zastin like a madman. Zastin struggles to block or evade the whip attacks. Stem's whip strikes the energy sword out of Zastin's hands. Stem closes the distance between them, and slashes Zastin across the chest, cutting through his armor. Zastin writhes on the floor in pain. When he looks up, he sees Stem raising his blade for the killing blow.
"Hey!" yells Rito, emerging from the kitchen. Stem turns around and looks Rito in the eye. "I'm the one you want," says Rito, readying his short sword of dark matter.
"Yes, you are," says Stem, leaving Zastin and lashing at Rito. With all of his experience dodging Yami's attacks following his perverted accidents, Rito ducks and maneuvers his way around Stem's whip. He gets closer to Stem, forcing the latter to use his sword. Rito swings his blade, and it locks with Stem's. The two opponents push against each other, fighting for ground.
Zastin tries to stand, but collapses. Rin appears by his side, and helps him sit against the wall. She watches Rito and Stem fight. Stem headbutts Rito, forcing him back. While Rito's dazed, Stem slashes at his head. Rito spins his sword within his hand, blocks Stem's attack, and then cuts at Stem's left eye, blinding him; it's the exact same move Rin used on him during their training session. Stem reels back in pain.
"Wow," says Rin under her breath. Rito smiles, impressed with himself. But then, his right watch flashes red and his sword deactivates. Both watches are empty, and he's unarmed. He backs away from Stem, scared. Stem marches forward, fury in his one good eye. He cuts Rito across the shoulder. Rito whines in pain, drops to the floor, and clutches his burnt shoulder. Stem raises his sword, about to kill Rito. THWACK! Rin strikes Stem in the back of the head with a broken table leg.
"Rin!" yells Rito, surprised.
"You little freak," growls Stem.
Rin attacks him again and again, using precise and powerful strikes, forcing Stem outside onto the balcony. Stem doesn't have the time to counter. Rin goes for another swing, but Stem slices her wooden "sword" in half with his own energy one. Then he slaps Rin across the face, sending her to the floor.
"Enough," says Stem. He activates his whip, lashes it at Rito, and wraps it around his leg. Before he can drag Rito outside, Rin takes her halved "sword" and strikes Stem's gauntlet, deactivating his whip and releasing Rito. Stem seizes Rin by the throat, activates his jet boots, flies over the balcony and hovers in the air, holding Rin with one hand.
"No," screams Rito, running out onto the balcony. Stem levitates, holding Rin by her neck with an outstretched arm. She helplessly dangles a thousand feet in the air. When she looks down, her acrophobia kicks in, overwhelming her with vertigo and fear.
Down on the street below, Saki and the other restaurant patrons gather on the sidewalk. Police and news reporters are on the scene. Saki looks up and sees a helicopter circling the penthouse restaurant; she can barely make out Stem flying whilst holding Rin.
"Oh, no," says Saki.

At Risa's house, the news plays on TV. It's live footage of Stem about to drop Rin while Rito attempts to talk him down. Risa, Mio, Haruna and Yui (wearing their pajamas and enjoying a sleepover) watch the news in shock.
"Rito," says Haruna, worried.
000000
On the set of a music video, everyone stops working and gathers around to watch the news, including Run and Kyouko. They too are just as shocked and worried.

On the sidewalk outside a TV store, a bunch of TVs play the news. A crowd of passersby watch in surprise, with Yami and Mea among them. They trade looks, and then take to the sky as fast as they can.

At Rito's house, the news plays on TV. Mikan, Celine, Lala, Momo and Nana watch in disbelief.
"Lala, Nana, let's go! We have to help," says Momo, running for the door. Lala and Nana are right behind her, already unfurling their wings.
"Please hurry, you guys!" shouts Mikan.
"It'll be okay, Mikan," says Nemesis, appearing from the kitchen, not the least bit worried.
"Nemesis," says Mikan.
"I'm sorry. I still haven't fully recovered from my fight with King Gid, so I won't be of any help. But like I said, it'll be okay. Trust your brother. He'll know what to do," says Nemesis.

Back on the balcony, Rito approaches the edge while Stem holds Rin. Light tears fill her eyes.
"I am sick and tired of these games, Rito Yuki," yells Stem.
"Stem, don't," says Rito.
"Surrender yourself to me now, or this girl ends up street pizza," threatens Stem. He loosens his grip on Rin. Her shoes slide off her feet, and fall towards the ground. She panics and clutches Stem's arm, holding on for dear life.
"All right, all right! You can have me. Just put her down, please. Right here on the balcony," begs Rito.
"Rito, no," mutters Rin.
"Rin, I have to," replies Rito.
"One," threatens Stem.
"No," says Rito.
"Rito, look at me. I'm not worth it. Think about Mikan," mutters Rin.
"And you think about Tenjou-Senpai," replies Rito.
"Two," says Stem.
"Stem, please, take me. Just take me!" begs Rito.
"Whatever happens, you have made me the happiest girl," says Rin.
"STEM!" yells Rito.
"Three," says Stem, and he drops Rin.
"NO!" yells Rito. Rin screams for her life as she plummets. Rito doesn't hesitate; he runs for the railing and jumps off the balcony, diving into a freefall.
Down on the street, Saki gasps in fear.
At Risa's house, Haruna, Risa, Mio and Yui all react in terror.
At the music video set, Run and Kyouko gasp with fright.
At Rito's house, Mikan covers her mouth as tears stream down her face.
Back on Stem with a bewildered expression, never expecting Rito to just jump and dive to his death. "That works too," he says to himself.
Rin continues to scream as she falls past the halfway point of the skyscraper. Above her, Rito angles his dive and falls even faster, catching up to her. He crashes into Rin, and wraps his arms around her body as they fall together.
"Rito, what're you doing?" yells Rin over the wind.
"I'm not letting you go! Never!" yells Rito, hugging Rin even tighter. Heavy tears fly upwards out of Rin's eyes. She smiles, wraps her arms around Rito, and closes her eyes, accepting what comes next. As the ground gets closer, Rito follows Rin's lead and closes his eyes. He takes a deep breath, exhales, and the whole world slows down. The crowd below backs away as he and Rin approach the ground.
No, thinks Rito. He opens his eyes, and suddenly, a pair of wings made of dark matter materialize out of his back. Without thinking, Rito spreads his wings, carries Rin princess-style, and flies into the air just before he and Rin slam onto the pavement. Saki watches them ascend, and cheers her heart out.
"Uh, whoa," says Rito. He still can't believe it himself; he's flying. He's actually flying. He checks his watches; both of them are still empty. "How did I…" starts Rito, but stops himself when he notices Rin, her eyes still closed. "Rin, it's okay. Look," he says. Rin slowly opens her eyes, and is greeted to the dangerous sight of another thousand-foot drop. She squirms in Rito's arms, terrified. "Hey, hey, it's okay. I got you. I got you," says Rito. Rin calms down and realizes Rito is flying while carrying her in his arms.
"Rito?" asks Rin.
"I told you I'm not letting you go," says Rito with a smile. Then he and Rin land on the top of another building. It takes them a moment to collect themselves after what just happened.
"Are. You. Kidding. Me?" says Stem, appearing above them. Rito gets in front of Rin, protecting her. Stem looks to the distance and sees Yami, Mea, Lala, Momo and Nana all flying towards him. "This isn't over," he says, giving Rito a death glare with his one good eye. Then he flies off into the night. Rito and Rin sigh in relief, and then they both embrace, happy to be alive.
"Rito," says Lala, happily waving at him and Rin as she and the others fly his way.
Back on the penthouse balcony, Zastin leans on Saki's shoulder as they both watch Lala and the others join Rito and Rin on the roof. They smile, happy they're safe and everything worked out. Then they look at each other, and both become flustered.
At Risa's house, Risa and Mio jump and dance with sheer delight. Haruna cries tears of joy.
"I'm so glad. Rito," says Haruna. Yui also begins to cry, but then she quickly wipes away her tears.
At the music video set, Run and Kyouko hug and spin each other around, overjoyed.
At Rito's house, Mikan hugs Celine, relieved. Nemesis touches Mikan's shoulder and calmly smiles.
"Told you so, fufu," says Nemesis. Mikan and Celine smile back.

Before she can scream, a handsome prince in shining armor and a cape jumps in the way, and slices the tendrils with his energy sword. "What?" yells Bladix.
The prince cuts Rin free from her restraints, removes his cape, wraps it around Rin's naked body, and carries her in his arms, princess-style. He smiles at her, and then offers his sword. Rin smiles back, and places her hand on the hilt; they hold the sword together. And then they fly towards Bladix, and pierce him right through the eye.
"No!" yells Bladix as he disintegrates. The dark world around them fills with light. The prince sets Rin down. They stare at each other. She closes her eyes, and offers her lips. He leans in close for the kiss.
Rin bursts awake, her face flushing like crazy. She finds herself in bed; another dream, but not the same scary one as before. Rin buries her face into her pillow, embarrassed, squealing. She looks at her phone; the time reads 3:41 AM.

At Rito's house, Rito emerges from the bathroom, yawning and wiping his eyes.
"Man, what a night. I'm so glad the others showed up when they did," says Rito, returning to his room. No sign of Momo or Nemesis in his room tonight. As Rito crawls into bed, he notices something outside his window.
Out on Rito's front gate is none other than Rin, wearing a sweater and leggings. She's about to open the gate, but stops herself. What am I doing here? I've gotta stop inconveniencing him like this. Besides, there's no way he'd still be awake. Not after tonight, she thinks as she walks away.
"Rin," says a voice. Rin stops in her tracks. To her surprise, Rito emerges from his front door and meets her at the gate.
"Oh, hi," says Rin, nervous.
"It's late. What are you doing here?" asks Rito.
"I…I honestly don't know," responds Rin.
"Can't sleep?" asks Rito.
"I suppose you could say that," says Rin.
"Me neither," says Rito, offering her a smile. At that moment, all doubt with Rin's mind and heart fades away. She gulps, clenches her fists and approaches Rito. "What is it?" he asks. Rin's face turns beet red.
"I love you," says Rin, spitting it out. Rito stares at her in disbelief. "And I…I want to be a part of your harem. I won't ever leave Miss Saki, and I was afraid of having to choose between you and her. But I choose you both. For now, I want to stay by her side. But when you become king of Deviluke, I'll be waiting. That is, if you'll have me," she says with worry, looking away. An unbearable moment of silence passes. Rin looks to Rito, anxious for his answer. "Rito?" she asks. Suddenly, Rito presses his lips against Rin's, surprising her. Then he backs off.
"Oh, no! Sorry! I'm sorry! You just, you looked so beautiful, and I love you too, and I couldn't resist, and I, uh, I, um," says Rito.
"Shut up," says Rin.
"What?" asks Rito. Rin grabs Rito by the collar. For a moment, it looks like she's about to beat the crap out of him. Instead, she thrusts her lips against his. "Wow," says Rito. He and Rin trade smiles, and then overlap their lips one more time, sharing a real, passionate kiss.
Unbeknownst to them, up on the second floor of Rito's house, Nana watches them from the window. She appears downright devastated.
Author's Note: Rin is my favorite character, behind Yui. Naturally, I wanted her chapter to be as romantic and exciting as possible. Much longer than the others, I know, but there was so much I wanted to write. Plus, as one of the girls who love-hates Rito, getting her to fall for him would take more work than those who love-love him (such as Lala) or love-like him (such as Kyouko). What did you think? Did you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it?
On a serious note, the next chapter won't be posted until sometime in January. Between work, holidays and other writing projects, my schedule's tight. I appreciate all the support, and I look forward to sharing Rito's next adventure with you. Thank you, and see you again soon.
