Chapter 2
Back home in the monastery, the ninja gathered inside the control room, sitting at a round table that reminds one of military personnel prepping for a meeting. But instead of preparing for an invasion, the ninja were discussing the situations happening on the villages. That way they'll come up with a plan to end the horrors the citizens go through in the darkness as the moon rises high.
"There has to be some sort of logical explanation for these random attacks," Lloyd said, "This has been going on for three months. We've allowed the Ninjago Crime Investigators to take over at first, but so far they've come up with nothing."
"Probably because they haven't been able to find the right clues," Cole said, "Have you stayed in touch with them?"
"No, but Zane has."
"The last time I contacted the NCI, they explained there was no trace of DNA on any of the bodies discovered that are a lead to these random attacks. It's like there's something or someone cleaning up the evidence before they can discover any leads. So unfortunately we are continuing at square one."
"Well, let's see," Nya said, typing on the main computer through the small keyboard sitting in front of her on the table, "I have a file saved with photos of all the missing and deceased victims that are linked to these attacks." Clicking on a file, it pulled up photos of the missing people. "Here's a file of all the missing people. The first is a twenty-one year old woman, the first one who was presumed lost three months ago. This is month one. Month two counts two missing people, a sixteen year old girl and a ten year old girl. Both are sisters. Month three, which was last month, had seven people reported missing. Three of them were women ages twenty to twenty-two, while four were teenage girls ranging from fifteen to eighteen years of age. And this month counts as six. All teenage girls ranging from fourteen to eighteen years of age."
"But these are just the missing people from Jamanakai Village," Kai said, "Who knows how many other people are missing from other villages?"
"And it looks as though whoever or whatever these people or creatures are have something to do with hunting down girls," Jay said, "I figured girls were tougher than that."
"Not all girls are as strong as me, Jay," Nya bragged.
"But what about the deceased?" Cole asked.
Nya clicked on a different file, showing photos of the victims of these terrible crimes. "Three months ago, we found three women, all twenty years of age, dead in a cave. Two months ago, we found none dead, only missing. Last month we found two girls, one eighteen and the other sixteen, dead in the same cave the other three women were found. Both these girls were sisters. This month, one has been found dead in the same cave."
"So it ranges to a total of sixteen missing and six dead," Lloyd said, "But if we study the other villages, there will be more presumed dead or lost. But the questions still remain the same. Why are people suddenly going missing and some being found dead? Why are others only getting hurt? Mainly the only ones getting hurt are men, but why? Why hurt the men and kidnap the women? What is their motive?"
"And before discovering any other kinds of information, all the evidence is magically cleaned away," Kai said, "And we just keep returning back to square one."
Lloyd sighed. "Well, maybe we might be able to solve this problem. We've found fur and blood marks everywhere. We'll just test it out ourselves and see if we find anything. And we have photographic evidence of all the scratch marks made on the fountain. All we can do right now is wait until we get answers from the evidence. It's all we can do."
"Is there any other information you all have about this matter?" Zane asked.
"Well, I did ask the village leader if there was anything crazy going on last night," Cole said, "He did mention something about a party some teenager was throwing. He took me to the house where the party was at and needless to say, the guy's parents weren't too happy he had a party last night without their permission."
"Did the kid say anything useful besides realizing he was getting busted for a party he wasn't allowed to throw?" Kai asked.
Cole rolled his eyes. "I was getting to that. Anyway, he told me those three girls were present at the party. Of course what teenager's gonna resist a party. The guy said he saw one of the girls go inside the woods, but never came back out. The other two girls that went missing are actually her friends and towards the end of the party, they went out there to look for her, but neither of them came out, either. And because he didn't want to get caught by his parents for throwing a party, he never reported their disappearances to the village guards."
"So what about the injured?" Lloyd asked, "They were attacked, but survived. They must have seen something."
"I asked one of the injured about what caused their casualties," Zane said, "One of them was fully conscious and stated that for what he was able to perceive, he figured it may have been a bear or a large wolf that attacked him. Others stated the same."
"Okay, so it's a large furry creature. That doesn't give us an answer, but it's at least a start. It'll probably be a few days before we have any results come in from the clues we found. Once the DNA results come in and we have a bigger picture, we'll go forward from there. So until then, we keep up on our training schedule and keep the monastery clean and stain free. Meeting adjourned."
The last three days were spent training and cleaning. What more can a ninja do when they're not battling against enemies? But one afternoon during training, things didn't go so well.
Sensei Wu decided to aid his students in sparring practice to help them stay on top with their sword fighting abilities. He paired each of them up, Nya with Lloyd, Zane with Cole and Kai with Jay. Everyone grew nervous when Kai and Jay were paired up together. Those two have been constantly arguing for the past couple of days. The reason remained a mystery and the problem was unknown. They were lucky enough that the two decided to keep their arguments outside, but the yelling could still be heard. They all wished the two would get along again. If only they could figure out the reason for all the shouting and unfriendliness.
The others had a feeling Wu paired Kai and Jay together to see if a good sparring would help them get along or at least answer their question to why they weren't happy in one another's presence, but that only seemed to make things worse. Their sparring started off as a simple sword fight, but it really got intense when Jay cut Kai's bicep, leaving a line that began to bleed and a slash mark on his gi.
Kai drawed the line and threw his sword down. "Throw down your sword. We do this using hand-to-hand combat."
"Sounds like fun," Jay said sarcastically, throwing his sword on the ground.
Wu rushed up to them. "Stop! This is sparring practice, not hand-to-hand combat!"
Kai kicked his teacher down. "Stay out of this, old man!"
Wu fell on his side, having some trouble getting back up. Lloyd rushed over to help his uncle.
"You okay?" Lloyd said, his voice filled with panic and concern.
Wu nodded, accepting help from his nephew. "Yes, I'll be fine. But we need to stop them."
No longer was it hand-to-hand combat. Now it was nothing but scratching and rolling around on top of one another. Kai actually had Jay pinned down, preparing to bite him before Cole and Zane came up and separated them. But it was a horrid sight to see.
Kai showed off a set of fangs that were never there before while Jay looked as though fur was about to grow on the visible parts of his face, the scratch marks left there healing automatically. This terrified the others, almost causing Cole and Zane to drop them to keep from getting bitten or seriously injured. But a cloud of purple surrounded the two of them, returning them to their normal selves, but both of them passed out in the training yard due to their energy being drained from releasing their inner souls as a vampire and werewolf.
The remaining ninja surrounded them, not sure if they should approach them. But Wu had a feeling they would be out like a light for a while. "Take them to their rooms and keep the windows locked. Nya, install cameras above the doors so we can keep an eye on them. We have urgent matters to discuss. Everyone meet in the control room in twenty minutes."
Once Nya finished the camera installations, she made her way down to the control room, having a tough time with this horrifying situation.
None of this was a dream. It was all real. Which means Nya actually saw the truth that night when she woke up in the hallway. No ands, ifs or buts about it. This was no paranormal thriller novel she had all of a sudden been thrown inside of. This was all reality. And it was happening to the two most important men in her life.
OH CRUD. KAI AND JAY HAVE REVEALED THEIR TRUE COLORS. RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. SO NYA WASN'T DREAMING. WILL THEY FIGURE OUT WHY KAI AND JAY ARE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT? WILL THEY SAVE THEM?
