Chapter 7

Days passed. Each of them were spent reading and jotting down important notes. Now the ninja were gathered around inside the control room, putting all their information together and continuing to search hard for the spell to summon Mordela. So far they haven't found it, but they did manage to find step by step instructions on how and where to summon her ghost. The spell was all they needed, but there was a problem.

It wasn't written down in any of the books or scrolls. Unless they found it, the sorceress couldn't be summoned.

And it didn't make the slightest bit of sense. It stated in Mordela's autobiography about the spell being written inside one of the dozens of diaries she had. When they searched the books long and hard, the scrolls came next, but none of those had much information, either. What exactly were they missing? Why wasn't the spell written in any of the books and scrolls? Maybe it was in a different language?

Whatever the reason, the ninja were stumped. They came up with nothing. When you can't find the one thing you're looking for, you just wander into an endless state of bewilderment.

As if they weren't already in a bad enough pickle, Day of the Departed was only two days away and they were nowhere near finding the spell. Not only were they frustrated, angered and exhausted, but nearly all of them were on the verge of giving up.

All except Nya, of course.

The rest of the team worried for her. She hasn't taken a break to sleep the last few nights and has barely eaten. Whenever she does eat, it's usually a few bites while looking through a book or scroll. She's even jotting down notes while going to the bathroom. None of them were even close to stooping that low.

If there were any two people who worried for her more than anything, it was Kai and Jay. They could tell she was under a lot of stress with one of the biggest causes was her over working herself, blaming themselves for the purpose. They hated the fact they were at fault for what their teammates were going through to help them live their lives normally again instead of worrying every full moon about turning into huge, monstrous killing beasts that snatch away the lives of innocent civilians. If only there was some way to turn back the clock and stop all this from happening.

Nya finally closed the notebook she had been scribbling notes in after what seemed like forever, stood up from her chair and walked outside into the training yard. None of them dared to follow her, but after a moment, Jay tried heading out after her.

Kai grabbed his arm, shaking his head. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Give her a few minutes. If there's one thing you never do, it's approach a woman when she's under emotional stress."

Jay rolled his eyes. "That may be your way of dealing with women, Kai, but I have my own way of handling girls." Removing his arm from the fire ninja's grasp, he left to follow his girlfriend.

He spotted Nya in the training yard crying hopeless tears. Carefully approaching her, he wrapped his arms around her strong, beautiful form. No words uttered from his mouth. Asking her if she was okay or if she wanted to talk about what was going on inside her head was definitely out of the question. It'll only make her mad and make him a liability to receive a good punching.

After a few minutes of standing there wrapped in each other's arms, Nya took in a breath and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I'm sorry, Jay. I hate breaking down like this, but I can't help but think I've failed you and Kai."

"Don't say such things," Jay said, "None of this is your fault. It's not anyone else's faults. You haven't failed Kai and I and neither have the others. You're all doing the best you can. That's all Kai and I could ever ask for. He and I want this curse to be lifted more than anyone else. And even if it grows too late to save us this time, it's nice to know we gave it our all on the first try. We'll work twice as hard to lift the curse a second time around."

Nya smiled, placing a hand on her boyfriend's cheek. "Jay, even if we don't lift the curse, I want to let you know that whether or not you're a wolf, I will continue to stick by your side. No matter what, I'll always love you through thick and thin, Sparky."

Their lips were close to coming together. Just before they could share the moment with a kiss, the doors of the monastery opened, revealing Lloyd.

"Hey, lovebirds," Lloyd said, "Your moment's gonna have to wait. We just found the spell."

Nya gasped, rushing inside and making her way towards the control room, where the others were surrounding the table. "Lloyd said you guys found the spell. It literally makes no sense. How were you all able to find it when none of the books had it written down anywhere?"

Lloyd and Jay had just arrived while Zane brought over one of the books.

"It was written inside this book, but there's a reason why we couldn't find it," Lloyd said. Using his powers, he placed the glowing green light upon an empty page in the book the Nindroid held.

There it was. Written right there on the page. That's where the spell was written.

The spell to summon Mordela.
