So, my children i come with a story that will be multiple chapters and that I will have to update along with my other multi-chapter fanfiction. Yay... Anyway, I'm looking for prompts for Kai x Zane, and I couldn't get this one out of my head. It's also really hot in Arizona right now, so I might be able to post a few more things while I can't go anywhere because of the heat.

Disclaimers: I don't own Ninjago or the characters. I own the plot, and if I did own Ninjago, Kai would get a season (or two) for being evil. Haven't watched past season 6, but I do know almost everything that happens past that. This is set somewhere after season 4. Enjoy!

Things had to take a little getting used to after the everyone was back on the team. Zane had learned about what happened while he was gone, and they told him how much Kai missed his boyfriend after his sacrifice. When he learned Kai had been controlled by the staff, he made sure to say that it wasn't Kai's fault he did anything. Kai had claimed that he hadn't remembered much from after he had picked up the staff. Just a few times when he had tried to fight back his evil side.

When Kai and Zane were sure they were ready to start things again, Kai told him the truth. He remembered everything he had said and felt while he was 'evil'. He had even told Zane what Chen had said to him when he was trying to get Kai to join his side. He also disclosed what had happened with what he learned about his parents. He had also told Zane about all the dirty ticks he had played to prevent himself from being taken out of the competition. In return,Zane told him what happened while he was in captivity. He could tell that Kai was angry when he had been told that he was tortured a few times. After spilling their guts out to each other, Kai stole one of Zane's hoodies and refused to take it off. After finally getting to sleep late in the night, the two felt things could get back to normal again.

The next morning, Zane had woken up before Kai. Knowing that Kai hated waking up to a bed alone, more so after Zane's presumed death, Zane got up to make a breakfast in bed for the two of them. Smelling the cooking, everyone else woke up. Nya had asked questions about him and Kai's relationship, and if they were going to get back together. Everyone was happy after Zane had replied with yes to the question. They still remembered how broken and sad Kai looked after Zane's death and the memorial, and the heartbreak still lingering after they met again after the longest time. When Kai started having a small crush on Skylor, they thought that Kai was finally healing. Until he had been controlled. The 'evil' Kai had said that he wanted vengeance for Zane. If that meant harming innocents, then so be it.

The guys and Nya had all been joking around, trying not to disturb Kai, but he still woke up. Stumbling into the kitchen, Kai yawned and brought his arms that were covered by Zane's white hoodie up so that he could rub his eyes. The first person he saw was Zane, who Kai immediately went to. He wrapped his arms around Zane's back and put his face in the crook of his neck. Zane smiled softly.

"Sorry I was not in bed, I was making breakfast for us to eat in bed together, but then everyone came out and I got a bit carried away with cooking."

"Virus, you are coming back to bed, though; right?" Kai's words slightly muffled.

"Yes, of course. With breakfast! Is that fine, Smokey?" Zane asked, deciding to use the pet name he had made for is boyfriend back when they first started dating.

"Yeah." He yawned again. "I'm gonna be in bed. Come back soon."

"I promise."

As Kai stumbled off back to their room, Zane looked at his friends' shocked faces.

"What?" Zane asked, perplexed.

" I have never seen Kai act like that." Nya said, the others agreeing.

"Really? He's acted like that ever since we started dating."

Deciding he should stop wasting time, Zane quickly made enough breakfast for him and Kai and headed back to their room. He found Kai chewing on one of the rope things connected to the hood of the hoodie and playing with the edges of the hoodie. Kai was deep in thought, so Zane placed the plate on the bedside table and sat next to Kai. He carefully pulled the rope thing out of his mouth, Kai looking startled and embarrassed.

"You really shouldn't chew on that. It could harm your teeth."

"Sorry." muttered Kai.

"Why don't we eat and you tell me what's bothering you, alright?" Zane proposed after a moment of silence.

Kai just nodded and they ate in peace.

"So, what is bothering you?"

Kai shifted nervously under the gentle gaze of his boyfriend before asking, "Do you... Love me?"

Zane was taken aback slightly. He had told Kai multiple time that he loved him, and it was the last thing he said before he woke up in Chen's dungeons. He hadn't seen Kai in a long time, but that didn't stop him from loving the hot-head. "Of course I do. Why would you think I wouldn't?"

"Why?" Kai demanded, completely ignoring the question he was asked.

"Well, you are smart, funny, and kind. You make me feel happy and you can cheer me up from being sad. You even helped me after I learned I was a robot-" A quiet interjection of 'nindroid' "- and you were the first not to judge me. I've always felt more comfortable around you, no matter our elemental powers. I still love you and trust you even if you won't tell me about your childhood, and I will never stop because you have never hurt me before. I do love you, Kai." Zane smiled at Kai's blush.

"Yeah. Right back at ya'."

Zane couldn't help but laugh at the Kai-like statement and Kai himself couldn't stop himself from laughing, too. They smiled at each other.

"I haven't laughed like that in a long time." Kai stated.

"Yeah. Me too."

Kai cuddled up against Zane. "You can do dishes later, right?"

"Yes."

"Good, because we are going to go back to sleep and not wake up until dinner, and then lie here for ten minutes before actually going to eat dinner."

Zane chuckled and agreed. He couldn't be happier to be back with Kai. And everyone else, of course, but he missed Kai the most. He never wanted this moment of happiness to end, but he knew that they would have to get up. At least, not until dinner.

"I love you, Smokey."

"I love you, too, Virus."
