Tori was riding her bike with Bruxo sitting in the basket as she peddles it to the new home of her sister, brother-in-law, nephew. They had just moved to Scotland because her brother-in-law is employed in building a golf course on the estate of Lord McAshton. Tori hated the idea of land being destroyed for a golf course because of the impact it could have on the environment.
Tori stopped her bike before getting off it and walking the rest of the way with Bruxo walking beside her. She set her bike against the house next to the door before knocking. A moment passed before the door opened.
"Oh, Tori. It is so good to see you," Dottie greeted her with a hug, "Come in. Sorry that Bob isn't here, he had to go to work."
Tori stepped inside the house and followed her sister into the kitchen.
"It's good to see you too, Dot. How's the move been?" Tori asked her sister as they sat down at the table. Bruxo lay on the floor next to Tori's feet.
"The move was easy for Bob and me, but Tony has been having these strange nightmares," She replied.
"What sort of strange nightmares?"
"Vampires," Dottie answered, "Tony said he has been having nightmares about vampires."
"That is strange, but keep in mind that this is an entirely different place for him," Tori said. In the corner of her eye she saw Tony hiding on the other side of the entrance into the kitchen and got an idea, "But, then again, there have been rumors that vampires and many other creatures of the night once called these lands home and on a quiet night at the witching hour, you can see a witch riding her broomstick in the moonlight, hear a banshee's wail, a werewolf's howl, and the screeching of the vampire. You know, Tony. It's not nice to eavesdrop."
"I'm sorry, Aunt Tori," Tony apologized, coming out of his hiding place and toward the table, "But I heard you were talking about vampires and I got curious."
"It's alright, Tony," She smiled, "How are you liking Scotland so far?"
"It's kinda cool," He replied.
"You know, Tony, if you ever get interested in knowing about some spooky legends you can visit me at Castle Macleod, and we can hang out in the library. There are a lot of books in there about a lot of monsters, myths, and legends. It even mentions how to keep them away."
"Really?" Tony asked.
"Yep," Tori said, "Oh, that almost reminds me," She reaches into her bag and pulls out a small bouquet of Heather before handing it over to her sister, "This is Heather. It is said to bring luck and protection."
"Oh, Tori, these are beautiful," Dottie commented.
"Your welcome. I grew them myself."
"You always did have a gift with nature," Dottie stood up from the table and grabbed a vase to fill with water before putting the flowers in and setting it on the table, "There, perfect."
Bruxo stood up and began purring as he rubbed against Tony's leg.
"Hey, Bruxo," Tony said as he pets him.
"Bruxo got really excited when I told him that were you going to visit you, Tony," Tori mentioned, "He really likes you, and Bruxo can be picky when it comes to the people he likes. I think you are the only person he likes as much as me," Tori turned to her sister and asked, "How are things going here so far?"
"Everything has been going well. Tony and I got home after picking him up from school a little before you arrived," Dottie answered.
"Oh," Tori said before asking her nephew, "And how was school today Tony?"
"It was cool," He replied with a smile, "In class, we learned about this comet that appears every three hundred years. I even saw it in my dreams. In my dreams, when the comet is aligned with the moon, shoots down a beam of light that comes down. And on the ground, there's a gathering of vampires."
Tori then realized that Tony was having the same dreams as her. She did her best not to let her surprise and shock show and asks, "And what else happens in this dream?"
"Well, a man came and attacked them. The vampires ran away. And He fought the vampire that was holding the amulet. During the fight, the stone in the amulet fell out and over the cliff. Another vampire jumped over to catch it and that's where my dream ends."
"That is a very interesting dream," Tori commented, "And how often have you had this dream?"
"I've been having in every night since we moved here," He replied.
"Well, since your dream is a recurring one then it is supposed to mean something, but the question is what does it mean?"
"I don't know. What do you think, Aunt Tori?"
"Well, my guess could be that your dream means you have a desire to learn about the strange and unusual history of this land," Tori replied, "How about you come to my home tomorrow and we can learn more about Scotland's strange and unusual history together?"
Tony turned to his mother and asks, "Can I mom?"
"Maybe. If you behave yourself tonight, while me and your father are at Lord McAshton's party," Dottie replied, "Now, go upstairs."
"Ok."
Tony leaves the kitchen and runs up to his bedroom, leaving Dottie and Tori to talk by themselves.
"I really missed Tony. I'm glad you guys were able to move here," Tori voiced.
"I am too. I missed hanging out with my baby sister," Dottie said.
"I'm only six years younger than you," She mentioned.
"I know, but still," Dottie got up from the table. She grabbed two glasses filled with water for her and her sister to drink before returning to the table, "So, any handsome Scottish men? Or Irish, English, or Welsh men in your life?"
Tori nearly choked on her water after hearing her sister's question. After composing herself, Tori looked at her sister and says, "Your almost as bad as mom. I swear ever since we passed the age of twenty-five, she bothered us about finding someone and giving her grandchildren. Fortunately enough for you, you managed to do that. Unfortunately for me, I have not."
"Has there even been anyone?" Dottie inquired, What about the mystery man in your dreams?"
"Ha-ha," She sarcastically laughed, "No. I do want to find someone. It's just that I haven't gotten that feeling when you look at someone and your feel an attraction toward them."
"I understand. I felt the same way when I met Bob."
The two sisters continued to talk for a couple of hours about everything they could think of before it was time for Dottie to get ready for the party and for Tori to get home.
Tori picked up Bruxo before saying her goodbyes to Dottie. She greeted Bob as she walked out the door. Tori placed Bruxo in his basket before riding her bike back home. Tori knew she that would have to keep an eye on her nephew along with the comet that was approaching.
