Jealousy

"You're sure this is okay?" Buck asked.

Eddie arched an eyebrow. "Am I sure this is okay he asks? Christopher is spending the whole night at a sleepover with Harry and Denny. I have no fatherly responsibilities to worry about until tomorrow. So, I'm going to enjoy a night out with my boyfriend. Just the two of us. It's something that doesn't happen very often."

Buck sighed. Eddie wasn't wrong. A lot of the time when they were together, Christopher was with them as well. And Buck loved the kid to death, but it really did stop them from having some adult fun. And if Christopher wasn't there, more times than not, they were with the 118 for group outings.

And again, Buck enjoyed spending time with them—they were like one big family—but getting some private time with Eddie was a treat.

"I know, and I'm looking forward to some alone time. But wouldn't it be nice to just watch a movie at one of our homes? The idea of cuddling with you on a comfortable couch certainly has its appeal."

Eddie smiled. "Normally, I'd say yes. But I can only count on one hand the number of times we have gone out together alone since we started seeing each other. We have all the time in the world to be an old married couple. We should enjoy being able to go on dates when we can."

Buck stepped closer, placing his hand on Eddie's chest. "You see us becoming an old married couple?"

Eddie grinned. "I do. So let's enjoy being young for now."

Buck pressed his lips against Eddie's, moaning as Eddie's tongue plunged inside of his mouth, mapping it out. He returned the kiss with equal fervor, his hands grabbing Eddie's perfectly coifed hair.

Eddie separated with a tiny nip when it became necessary to breathe.

Buck leaned back, his hand smoothing down Eddie's chest muscles, smiling at feeling them bunch with the soft movement of his fingertips.

"You messed up my hair, didn't you?" Eddie asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Buck admired his handiwork. "I did, but I think it looks better this way."

Eddie shook his head and a bang fell into his eyes. "Let's go."

Buck nodded with a sigh and allowed Eddie to lead him out of the house for a night out on the town.

It would be great. Or at least Buck hoped it would be.

They got to a restaurant, but it also acted a bit like a bar. All of the tables were occupied.

"They're busy. That's a good sign for the quality," Eddie said.

Buck nodded. "Do you want to wait? Or would you rather just sit at the bar."

"I am kind of hungry."

"The bar it is," Buck replied. It didn't matter either way to him.

They found two bar stools side-by-side and as they waited for a bartender or server, they bent their heads together, their elbows pressed against each other. They breathed in each other's air.

"So, my parents have been bugging me. They know I'm seeing someone, but I haven't told them anything about you."

"Do they know that you're bisexual?"

"I told them when I was younger, but it never came up again because I was married to Shannon, and then afterward, I lived like a monk. I'm not sure if they actually remember me telling them or if they like to pretend I never came out to them. If they pretend it didn't happen, then it doesn't exist. We just never talk about it, so I'm not sure which one it is."

"Do they know you're dating a man? They can't really ignore the truth with me in the picture."

"I mentioned that I've been seeing someone, but I haven't made the gender clear."

"Are you worried about how they'll react?"

"My family has always been disapproving of everything I did. According to them, I'm not a good enough father. I'm wasting my time being a first responder. I should have gotten a business degree and done something better with my life. I know how verbally abusive they were to Shannon while I was deployed. And I'm sure that was part of the reason for her running when I went home to El Paso. I just don't want to deal with them. And I don't want you to have to deal with them."

Buck placed a hand on top of Eddie's hand, giving it a slight squeeze. "I can take care of myself. Whatever you decide, I have your back. And they have no power to scare me away from you."

Eddie leaned forward for a kiss, which Buck happily returned until a throat clearing brought them back to the fact that they weren't home alone.

Buck turned a smile onto the server. "Hi, sorry about that."

"No worries," the man said, a twinkle in his eyes. "My name is Wayne, and I'll be your server tonight. Can I start the two of you off with a drink?"

Eddie had a frown on his face. "Since I'm driving, I'll just have a coke."

"I'll stick to a coke as well." He looked at Eddie. "If you can't drink, I'm not drinking either." He paused. Unable to help himself, he continued, "You know, if we had stayed at home, we both could have indulged."

Eddie rolled his eyes. "As the song goes, let it go."

Buck chuckled. "Christopher made you watch Frozen again, huh?"

"I am so sick of that movie. Next time, you're watching with us."

"I've already seen it five times with him."

"I got you beat. Eight times."

"I'll go get those cokes," Wayne said, interrupting their bickering. He gifted Buck with a smile and completely ignored Eddie.

Buck didn't really notice it, but he did notice the frown once again on Eddie's face. "You okay?"

"Yeah fine. I'm going to go to the restroom. Be back in a minute." He pressed a quick kiss to Buck's lips before sliding off of the stool and disappearing down the hallway where the restroom sign hung.

Wayne came back with the two sodas, placing them both on coasters. "Where did your friend go?"

Buck looked at him. They had been kissing. How could Wayne refer to Eddie as a friend?

"My boyfriend just went to the bathroom. We haven't thought about what we want for food yet. We actually haven't gotten menus yet. So if you could get us one of those, thank you."

Wayne smiled at him, that damnable twinkle in his eyes. "Coming right up."

Buck looked towards the hallway, watching for Eddie.

His heartbeat picked up-tempo at the sight of him, and he found himself smiling. He couldn't help himself. Just the sight of Eddie made him smile. That smile dropped off of his face when he saw a young blonde girl with incredible curves in a red halter top and black mini skirt sidle up to Eddie.

Buck frowned. And the frown turned into a scowl when the girl put her hand on Eddie's arm, tilting her head. He couldn't see her face because her back was to him, but he was sure she was fluttering her eyelashes in a way that was supposed to bring men to their knees.

Wayne came back with a couple of menus. "I see your boyfriend has made a friend."

Buck didn't look at him, but he could hear the smug smirk in his voice. "Go away or I will be complaining to the manager about your unprofessionalism."

Wayne humphed, but there was the sound of footsteps as he walked away.

Buck continued watching them, his arms crossed over his chest. Part of him wanted to stomp over there and rip her arms off of Eddie. She had no right to touch what wasn't hers.

But he didn't. He just watched the byplay. Eddie seemed to be eating up the attention, and it made him furious.

And finally, Eddie managed to get away, and he made his way back to the bar and his stool. His easy-going smile dropped off of his face when he noticed Buck's expression. "Is something the matter?"

"How can you honestly ask me that? After I had to watch that sickening display?" He gestured to the area where he and the girl had been flirting.

Eddie blinked. "What display? The girl talking to me?"

"The girl flirting with you. I might not have been able to hear what she was saying, but I know body language. And you were flirting right back."

"I was being polite. That's different from flirting."

"Did you tell her you were very much taken? Or did you just enjoy her sinking her claws into your arm too much to make sure she knew you were unavailable?"

"I didn't realize she was flirting, so no, I didn't mention having a boyfriend."

Buck glared at him. "Oh, you didn't know she was flirting? Anyone with eyes would be able to tell she was flirting from across the room. Hell, Wayne knew she was flirting!"

Now it was Eddie's turn to glare. "Oh, so Wayne knew she was flirting? If Wayne thought it was flirting, it must be true, right?"

"I knew it was flirting before Wayne commented on it. He just confirmed what I was seeing."

"And what did you and Wayne talk about while I was in the restroom?"

Now Buck was wondering how this had turned around on him. "Nothing, I just asked for menus."

"Oh, that's all?" Eddie snarked.

"Yes, that's all. And we were talking about you and Miss Mini Skirt!"

Eddie stood up. "Well, I think we should talk about you and Wayne instead. I bet he would love to get you all alone."

Buck blinked as he too stood up. "Are you jealous?"

"Are you jealous?" Eddie echoed.

They stared at each other, and then suddenly Buck was laughing. Eddie couldn't help it as he joined in on the laughter too.

"Wow, I think this was our first fight as a couple," Eddie said between chuckles.

"Yeah," Buck agreed. "And such a petty one too. I thought our first fight would be about something with a little more substance. I'm kind of disappointed actually."
Eddie shook his head. "Why are we getting jealous? I have no interest in that girl. I don't have it in me to be rude, but I was not flirting back."

"And I didn't notice Wayne flirting with me. I thought it was odd that he referred to you as my friend when you went to the bathroom, especially with our kiss, but I didn't connect the dots. And that's because all I see is you."

Eddie grabbed Buck's hand, pulling him so they were close together, their bodies nearly touching but not quite. "I know tonight was my idea, but I kind of want to get you alone."

"I'm all for that."

Eddie dropped Buck's hand and grabbed his wallet. He put a $10 bill on the bar.

Buck arched an eyebrow. "$10 for two sodas. That's one hell of a tip you gave someone that was flirting with me."

"Don't care. I get you in my bed tonight. Wayne can use the consolation prize." He grabbed Buck's hand one more time and dragged him out of the bar.

Buck's laugh was happy as he let himself be dragged.
