Chapter 44: Fairy Tail vs Sabertooth Part Five: The Twin Dragon's Tale!
"Words cannot begin to describe how disappointed in you two I am right now….how many times have I told you that we must never resolve our problems with violence?!" An elderly woman snapped from the driver's seat of the car. She had a head of half midnight black, and half snow white hair that was tied in a tight ponytail. Her voice was stern, croaky and swarming with annoyance mixed with frustration. The car was currently stopped at a red light which allowed her to crane her head to glare daggers at the two young boys sitting in the back seat staring out of the windows.
"We already said we were sorry Nana." One of the kids retorted, he ran his small hand through his spikey blonde hair. He glanced at the other seat to his left where his gloomy cousin just continued to stare out the window. Their grandmother opened her mouth to speak but a car behind them honked their horn alerting her to the fact that the light had turned green. In a huff she turned back around in her seat and stepped on the gas causing the vehicle to speed forward.
"Three times now in the last two weeks, I have had to leave work to come and pick you up from the principal's office, because you two don't have a shred of self control and keep picking fights! I mean I am seriously starting to believe that you boys just like being in trouble!"
"That's not true! We weren't the ones who started it…." The blonde kid cried out.
"No but you sure as Hell ended it. That poor boy needed to go and get stitches."
"It's not like we meant to hurt him that badly. We just got carried away, and lost control of our powers..." The quiet boy who had just been staring out the window mumbled, his long black hair covering his eyes. Their grandmother said nothing, instead she let her actions speak for themselves. She slammed her foot on the break, causing the tires to squeal, the car soon coming to a screeching halt on the side of the road. The two boys nervously glanced at each other as she parked the car and turned it off. Slowly she turned her head around like an owl, staring back at them furiously.
"Rogue, I know I did not just hear you say that you were using your powers….right?"
"Ermmmm" Rogue just turned to look back outside of the window, Sting however glowered at his grandmother.
"Well what's the point of having these stupid things if we can't even use them when we need them." He huffed and crossed his arms.
"I have told you this countless times. The point of having them is not to hurt people, rather they are to help, and protect them! Your fathers handed down the very same gifts that I handed down to them. Have you ever seen me raise a fist to someone in vain? I have raised you, your whole lives so I have no idea as to when you two became so obsessed with this idea that your powers were to be used to hurt other kids!" The two were quiet after that, as their Grandmother turned around to start driving again, the rest of the drive was one in complete silence.
That was twelve years ago, at the time they had only been four years old. Their Grandmother despite her rage that day, was usually a really kind-hearted person who did her best to make everything, and everyone around her better. Including them. She had Sting's father named Weiss, short for Weisslogia at a young age. She had only been in her early twenties when he was born. A few years later she met a good man and they settled down, and soon Weiss had a baby brother named Skiadrum, but they just called him Ski. Even though they were only half-brothers they acted like they were twins. The two did everything and anything together, even if they did have differing personalities. Skiadrum was always quiet, polite, and gentle, he kept to himself and only interacted with people if they made the effort to talk to him first. Weisslogia, however, was loud, brash, and stubborn, always aching to be the center of attention. It's like the old saying goes, opposites attract, and ever since Skiadrum could walk and talk, the two were best friends.
Their Grandmother loved her kids with her entire being. She thought the world of them, nothing could rival the pure joy she felt when they developed their own powers that they inherited from her own gifts. Her power of light went to Weisslogia, and her ability to control shadows to Skiadrum. Powers that would be passed down to their kids. The kids they would never get to meet. The day they were recruited to fight with Achnologia and the other dragons, was the last day she ever got to see her sons….until their funerals. In their deaths they widowed two beautiful women and orphaned two newborn boys. Those two boys were Sting Eucliffe, and Rogue Cheney, and they were adopted by their Grandmother after one of their mothers ran away for a fresh start, the other one suffered from a deep depression it wasn't long until she joined her husband. Just like their fathers the two boys were exact opposites, and yet were by each other's sides no matter what. No matter how hard things were, they had each other. Their Grandma made sure of that.
"Happy birthday."
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA!" Sting's loud rambunctious voice easily drowned out Rogue's quiet mumbling. Nevertheless the elderly woman turned to beam at the two kids who stood at the bedroom door holding a tray with pancakes on it. She set the book she had been reading and motioned for the two to enter the room, they wasted no time in scurrying to her bedside and placing the tray on her lap.
"Thank you boys….this is so very sweet of you." She grabbed the fork and knife they had put on the tray and cut a piece off, she could tell instantly that it was undercooked just by how runny it looked, she gulped before raising the food to her mouth and eating it, trying really hard to resist the strong urge to gag and cough the food back up, she smiled at the two.
"Mmmm...this tastes delicious, I'll finish it while you two go get ready for school." The two younglings nodded and rushed out of the room, once she was sure the coast was clear she dumped the rest of the pancakes into the garbage in the corner of her room. She waltzed down to the kitchen and began cooking some scrambled eggs while listening to the ruckus of the boys getting ready in a hurry. A soft smile on her face, they really were sweet boys who made her happy.
"Have a great day at school!" She yelled out as she heard them racing down the stars and out the front door.
"BYE NANA LOVE YOU!"
"See ya later."
She watched out the window as they ran to the bus that was parked outside of their house, and once it had driven off her smile faded as she was overcome with loneliness. With a sigh she grabbed a plate and grabbed her eggs before going back up to her room for the day.
The final bell reverberated throughout the middle school and a few seconds later the doors burst open and a swarm of students surged through the doors to load onto the yellow buses that were parked in front of the school. Other kids began walking to their parent's cars or to the bike rack, every single one of them excited to leave school behind for the entire summer. Rogue shifted his bag on his shoulder as he began to shuffle onto his respective bus, but as he was about to walk up the stairs he was yanked backwards and almost fell as a result. Furiously he turned around to see his half-cousin grinning mischievously.
"What the heck was that for?!" The young boy snapped.
"Because, Rogue, we aren't taking the bus home today….come on!" Sting proclaimed and grabbed Rogue's arm and pulled him along as he ran down the sidewalk.
"Sting?! What're you doing?!" Rogue attempted to pull his arm free from the blonde boy but Sting just tightened his grip.
"We are going down to the mall, I saw a cool necklace that we could get for Nana!"
"But, we don't have any money…" Rogue retorted, causing Sting to stop in his tracks and release Rogue's arm. Rogue pulled his arm back and rubbed the sore spot where Sting had been clutching. He looked back at his cousin who had a dark smirk on his face.
"Erm….Sting….why are you smiling like that, it's kind of creepy?"
"I know we don't have any money…..that's why I have come up with an amazing plan…." Sting smirked at Rogue's direction who raised one of his eyebrows out of curiosity.
"We're going to steal it." Sting spoke bluntly, and Rogue's eyes snapped wide open. He looked around to see if anyone around them had heard what Sting had just proclaimed, but the excited screams of the other kids their age made it impossible for anyone to have overheard.
"T-That's insane! Why would we do that?!" Rogue questioned, but Sting's smirk turned into a frown.
"Because she's been so down since Grandpa had to be put into a nursing home, I figured it would make her feel better…" Rogue frowned at Sting's words. It was true their Grandmother had seemed sadder, and lonelier as of late.
"Maybe so, but we can't just steal something, what would Grandmother say if she found out...wouldn't it make her more sad?" Sting's crestfallen face morphed into a grin once more.
"She won't find out….did you forget Rogue...you could just turn into a shadow and nobody would notice…."
"You're not serious…..we were told never to use our powers for self-interest…"
"It's not self-interest...it's for Nana!" Rogue stood there staring at his feet. Sting spun on his heels and began marching down the sidewalk.
"If you're too scared you can go back home, but I am going to get that necklace, with or without you." He proclaimed and walked off. Rogue stared at his shrinking figure, and scoffed.
"Wait! I'm coming!" He began jogging over to his cousin who was beaming upon hearing Rogue's voice.
One Hour Later:
"COME ON THIS WAY!" Sting shouted as he took a sharp turn into an alleyway tightly grasping the beautiful necklace inside of a protective wooden box. Rogue was following him closely, he peeked over his shoulder to see four police officers chasing them. Stealing the necklace went smoothly, however the second they walked out the jewelry store they set off the alarms. Something that they hadn't thought about until they were being chased by a security guard. A few minutes later they lost the guard, but it wasn't long until they had a squad of police after them.
"QUICK CLIMB, WE COULD LOSE THEM UP THERE!" Sting commanded and leapt up into the air grabbing hold of a fire escape. Rogue silently agreed and followed Sting in jumping up the ladder and sprinting up the metal stairs. When they reached the top of the escape, they hopped onto the roof of the building. A quick glance downwards showed that the cops were not slowing down. With a gulp Rogue sped off.
"Come on Sting!" He instructed his cousin who nodded his head and followed close behind. Rogue ran to the edge of the rooftop and leapt onto the neighboring building, and onto the next. They were successful in putting some distance in between them and the police. After a few minutes of running from rooftop to rooftop, they decided it was time to go back down to the street below. Rogue transformed himself into a shadow, melting down into the roof, and simply sliding down the side of the building. Sting however, simply leapt off the side of it and landed in a pile of trash bags that broke his fall.
"Oh gross…." He gagged and held his nose at the smell, Rogue simply reappeared with a sly smirk on his face, reaching a hand down Sting scoffed.
"Not one word…" He grumpily spoke as he took Rogue's hand who pulled him out of the pile of trash. The two were breathing heavily and looking around. No cops were in sight. They had successfully lost them, at least for the time being. Unbeknownst to them they were still being watched, a young girl with black hair pulled at her father's sleeve. The large man's eyes squinted in concentration, sure enough the two of them had seen everything. Sting and Rogue began to walk out of the alleyway when they were blinded by flashing red, and blue lights on top of a car that pulled over right in front of them. They glanced at each other and gulped. The doors of the car swung open and two cops stepped out with their guns drawn.
"PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!" One of the cops shouted. He gripped his weapon tighter and played with the trigger, as if ready to shoot them if they decided to run off again. With a sigh the two boys held their hands up in the air.
"Cuff em' Harvey, I'll make sure they don't get any funny ideas." The officer instructed his partner who nodded and holstered his pistol.
"On it Jim…" He scoffed and grabbed a pair of handcuffs. He walked over to the two young boys.
"You two, have some spunk that's for sure." The officer named Harvey gripped Rogue's arm, in a brief second he made eye contact with Sting who gave a slight nod. As Harvey was begging to cuff Rogue's hands behind his back, Sting formed a ball of pure light in his hand and slammed it on the ground causing a flashbang effect, the two officers cried out in agony and reached up to rub their eyes. Rogue easily slipped out of the handcuffs by turning his arms into a shadow. The metal fell to the ground and the two boys were off, finally in the clear. At least that is what they thought. Little did they know that the large man with his daughter was watching them walk away. A dark grin formed on his face.
"Interesting….very interesting…"
The two boys hurried to their home, and made it there just as the sun was starting to set. The two enthusiastically barged into the house, but something was wrong. The house was pitch black and completely quiet.
"Nana?" Sting called out. He looked to Rogue who shrugged as the two walked down the entry hallway that led to the living room where they heard quiet sobs as they approached. They gulped and walked into the room, Sting holding out the box. To their surprise their grandmother was sitting on the couch sobbing, and sitting next to her was a police officer.
"Hello boys…" The officer greeted them, and they stood there frozen. Their grandmother made eye contact with each of them staring at each of them not with anger, but with disappointment, hurt, and heartbreak.
"Nana…." Sting started, but she glared at him which shut him up.
"How. Many. Times. Have I told you that you are not to use your powers for selfish reasons…..you two have truly crossed a line, and I can no longer protect you." She spoke slowly, and carefully making sure the two boys felt the weight of her words.
"That's right...you boys have a lot to answer for...stealing the necklace was one thing, but you two proceeded to attack officers, and resist arrest….unfortunately that leaves me little choice, I was going to let you two off with a stern lecture and a warning, but now my hands are tied." The officer slowly stood up, and fished out two pairs of handcuffs. The two young boy's hearts were racing.
"Please make this easy on me, you two are under arrest and are most likely looking at time in Juvie…" At this Sting dropped the box he had been holding tightly, fear taking him over as the officer locked the metal hoops tightly around his wrists. Rogue didn't move a muscle and allowed himself as he too was being cuffed. Neither of them wanted to run or fight this time. They didn't want to hurt their grandmother any more than they already had. Instead they just let themselves get dragged out of their house. That was the last time they would see their grandmother, the two of them winced as they heard her breakdown as they were led outside.
A month passed, and they were sitting in their baron cell in the juvenile detention center when a loud knock came from the metal door.
"Get up you two you have a visitor…." The two looked at each other, wondering if it was their grandmother, but it wasn't. Instead it was the man who had seen them fight off the two cops. They sat down cautiously on the opposing side of the glass as he was unsure of who this man was, and why he wanted to see them.
"Greetings, allow me to introduce myself...My name is Jiemma, and I have a proposition for you."
Jiemma explained his plan to start up a guild that would become the strongest in Fiore, and how he wanted them to be the first two recruits, he promised them not only that he would get them out of Juvie, but would help them grow stronger, in return they would work for him. They agreed almost instantly, they knew that there was no way they would be able to face their grandmother again, and so the years passed. They grew stronger, wiser, older. As did Sabertooth. Jiemma let them know that their grandmother was wrong, powers were a gift to use to keep those beneath you where they belonged. Never again did the measly cops bother them, as Sabertooth rose to power they were revered and the tale of The Twin Dragons was born. They were treated as kings. So why were they so scared right now. This Fairy should have crumbled under their power like everyone else had. Jiemma told them that their power was unmatched, so how could the two of them fail to keep one person down. More to the point why were they on their hands and knees now, as the pink-haired pyromaniac glared down at them. Why did he have a right to be mad at them? He attacked their guild first, were they not allowed to retaliate? It was all just so confusing to the two of them.
"Get up…." Natsu growled. Sting slowly looked up and met his gaze. A chill ran up his spine as he was being glared at with a look that a predator gave its prey before it attacked. Ever so slowly the two rose to their feet, causing Natsu to grin.
"You are still no match for us!" Sting snapped back with false confidence, but Natsu's dark expression didn't waver. He instead rushed forward, his fist becoming engulfed with flames that evaporated the rain around him. He first swung at Rogue who was able to duck the swing by a matter of inches. Sting was less lucky as Natsu managed to land a good kick to the side of his head. Sting stumbled, but managed to stay on his feet. A hiss escaped his throat as his own fists were surrounded by bright lights. He threw a punch at Natsu, but unluckily Rogue had the same idea and at the last possible second Natsu ducked both of their punches at once. Sting, and Rogue's eyes widened as their power-infused punches connected with the other's face. They both wobbled back wincing.
"OWWW DAMNIT ROGUE WATCH IT!"
"I COULD SAY THE SAME TO YOU!" The two cousin's snapped at each other, uncharacteristically. For the first time in what felt like ever they weren't on the same page, both blinded by the frustration that came with not being able to beat one person they both viewed as beneath them. Natsu grinned relishing in them, being distracted long enough for him to backflip a few feet puffing up his chest before unleashing his signature attack, a large blast of flames from his mouth speeding right at the two arguing teammates. The cousin's turned to see the attack coming at them with wide eyes, and tried to get out of the way, but were both consumed by the flames and sent flying down the street.
"I wonder if this is how Laxus felt when he fought me and Gajeel…." Natsu muttered quietly before chuckling at how he was now in Laxus' shoes in terms of fighting two dragon powered teens solo.
"Shit, that hurt. Rogue get up…" Sting muttered as he slowly got back up to his feet. Rogue was a bit slower in standing up. That one attack had done a good amount of damage to the both of them, Rogue's cape was completely burnt off leaving him in a tattered gray long sleeve shirt. Sting's vest was also toast leaving him shirtless.
"Sting….we need to finish this now….."
"Agreed, so what do you say….should we stop holding back?" Rogue nodded.
"There is no way this Fairy Tail weakling can take us in our dragon force…." This statement caused Sting to grin. Rogue was right, Natsu might be strong but there was no human alive who had even managed to land a hit on them when they were transformed. The perks of good genetics.
"OI! What're you two talking about! I thought we were fighting….don't tell me you are scared now that my powers are back!" Natsu taunted. This caused the Twins to growl in unison.
"JUST YOU WAIT SALAMANDER! YOU WON'T BE TALKING SO TOUGH IN A MINUTE!" Sting yelled.
"Oooooh, I'm shaking." Natsu quipped.
"THAT'S IT! WE ARE FINISHING THIS NOW!" Sting snapped angrily and at once he and Rogue were surrounded by their respective colored auras. And let their power flow out of them. Natsu stood there motionless, with a small smirk as the two began to grow scales, their pupils dilating and turning into thin slits that resembled a reptile's. Sting's skin was being encased by white feather-like scales that covered his entire arms and the sides of his face, his blonde hair spiked upwards. Rogue's looked almost identical, except his scales were pitch black and his hair that normally laid flat also spiked up. Rogue's red eyes, and Sting's blue ones made eye contact with Natsu's green eyes, glaring at him intimidatingly.
"The end of our fight is near Salamander! Nobody has faced our dragon forces and lived to tell the tale!" Rogue quietly threatened. Sting chuckled darkly and clenched his fist causing the whit aura around him to flare up.
"I wish I could say you fought well, but really and truly, was there any doubt that we were going to be victorious? I mean after all you are just a Fairy…" At this Natsu snorted.
"Oh please…..you think you two are the only two people in the world you can transform? Hell Laxus can also use dragon force and I kicked his butt….Besides, I'd rather be weak in Fairy Tail than strong in a guild like yours...A place that kicks out one of their friends, all because she can't use her powers anymore is not a place I want any part in. Yukino loved Sabertooth! And your master threw her away like she was a newspaper!...You make me sick, so don't think you will ever win against me…." Natsu's voice became more quiet and angry.
"Oh here we go again, we've heard your speeches before….and I'm getting bored of it." Rogue commented.
"Yeah, so how's bout we let our fists do the talking, cause I'm getting sick of all this chatting around…" Sting replied. Natsu sighed, but nevertheless got into a fighting stance.
"Bring it…." And with that round three commenced. Moving so fast they became white, and black blurs Sting and Rogue shot at Natsu like they had been fired from a cannon. Natsu stood his ground taking a deep breath as the twin dragons simultaneously threw a punch, Natsu rose his arms to block the both of them, wincing upon the impact. Sting and Rogue were shot backwards, but they didn't hesitate to surge forward at Natsu one more time. This time Natsu ignited his fists and countered their attacks with some well placed strikes, as did Sting, and Rogue. Natsu took a big hit in the side by Rogue, but retaliated with a hefty kick placed right in Rogue's sternum. Rogue backed up, hacking up his lung. Sting screamed as he formed a ball of light and tried to throw it at Natsu who flipped out of the way and countered with a fireball of his own. This time it was Sting who evaded it.
Natsu rushed at Sting with his leg flaring up and leaping in the air and twisting through the air,he brought his leg down in an attempt to kick Sting's lights out, but he was intercepted by a purple beam courtesy of Rogue that sent him spiraling in the air. Natsu turned his body so that he landed feet first on the side of one of the run down buildings nearby. Balls of fire spiraled and formed under his heels, and he rocketed himself like a torpedo down at the two. A large fireball formed in his hand as he sped down to the ground and thrusted his arm down at the ground, the fireball shooting at the two dragon force users, who were able to speed away before the large explosion that left a hole in the concrete. Natsu rolled on the street making sure to not crash into it at top speed, he scraped his back a little in the process but didn't give up his offense. He had a score to settle for how he had been manhandled without his powers. A spinning disc of flames appeared above his hand resembling a large fire shuriken. He threw it at the two who were still backing up.
"SHIT WATCH OUT!" Sting yelled and leapt over the flaming disc of death as it rapidly spun. Rogue was able to melt into the ground in an attempt to evade it. The shuriken crashed into an abandoned building dispersing into a cloud of steam on impact. While Rogue was in his shadow state he rushed at Natsu. Natsu noticed that shadow that was slithering across the street, but couldn't focus on it from long as Sting was coming at him from above. So at once the twin dragons attacked him in unison one from below the other from above. Natsu was able to block Sting's kick that would've connected with the top of his head, but was unsuccessful in escaping Rogue's uppercut. This caused Natsu to be flung into the air but he quickly recovered. Flipping in the air he clenched his fist tightly, flames dancing around it. At the same time Sting, and Rogue mirrored his movements. At the same time all three of them swung their fists at each other, and what followed was a loud, and violent explosion that sent all three of them flying the second the three fists collided.
Natsu skidded to a halt on his hands and knees, wincing. Meanwhile both Sting and Rogue were able to recover in the air and landed somewhat gracefully on their feet. At once all three of them stood up straight panting.
"Rogue…" Sting sent a worried glance at his cousin. Who was slightly slow to his feet.
"I'm fine...but we need to end this quickly. I'm starting to run out of energy….as it is I don't know how much longer I can stay in my dragon force…" Rogue replied while breathing heavily.
"Same here…..so why don't we try one more unison raid….but this time we give it everything we have?" Rogue didn't reply instead he shifted his stance and held his arm behind him. It was now or never. This fight had dragged out long enough. Sting copied Rogue's stance.
"This one again?" Natsu muttered to himself as he prepared himself.
"THIS IS THE END! WE ARE PUTTING EVERYTHING WE HAVE INTO THIS FINAL ATTACK!" Sting shouted. Natsu grinned. Just like last time he watched as Sting's large ball of light converged with Rogue's purple ball of darkness. They thrust their arm's forward and instantly another large beam shot towards Natsu just like last time, and just like last time Natsu stood completely still as it came closer to him, the only difference was how much larger the beam was this time around. There was no doubt in his mind if he got hit by it this time, he would not get back up. The large attack came closer, and closer to him. He took a deep breath, he wasn't going to dodge it. He was ready to face the attack head on. He shifted his weight and stood still.
"Let's hope this works the way I want it to." He muttered, as his hands went to his side and began forming a small ball. As the attack was right in front of him he threw his arms forward in a circular motion praying that this worked. The fireball stretched out into four long strands of flames that spun around, and wrapped itself around the large beam. The strands began exploding and just like he had hoped it would, his attack caused Sting, and Rogue's unison raid to disappear.
"What the?!" Rogue exclaimed in horror.
"He...extinguished our attack?!" Sting cried out. Sure enough their unison raid was completely gone. Natsu's spiraling fire strands soon converged and formed the shape of a phoenix as it sped toward the two of them.
"SHIT!"
"Oh no!" They cried out together as the phoenix made of fire came closer to them, neither of them had any strength left to get out of the way. The phoenix exploded engulfing the two of them in the explosion of flames. The rain pouring down around them turned into a large cloud of steam due to the fire. When the steam faded the twin dragons' dragon forces were no longer active. Sting fell to his knees first.
"No...way…" He muttered before collapsing. Rogue fell face first onto the ground.
"How could this happen?" He asked quietly.
"It's like I said before….you two were never going to win….because you hurt the people who I care about….I was never going to lose when I know that there are people counting on me…..the simple truth is raw power means nothing….if you have no true reason for it. Power for the sake of power is weak when it is against someone who has something worth fighting for…." Natsu walked up to them, and for the first time the two felt the weight of what he was saying.
"Now if you excuse me….I need to go teach the rest of your guild the same lesson….I hope you two become nicer! I'd love to spar with you guys if you weren't such jerks!" Natsu beamed and began walking in the direction of their guild. And they were powerless to stop him. The two laid on the wet ground in silence for what seemed like hours. The rain coming on them began to lighten up, and soon the sky cleared as the sun began to rise.
"Hey….Sting?..." Rogue quietly asked. Sting struggled to turn his head to look at his cousin, the two of them were battered pretty badly, and had burns all over their skin.
"Y-Yeah?..."
"I-I think….Natsu's right…..maybe we aren't as strong as we thought…."
"I think so too…."
"D-Do you think that means that….Sabertooth is weaker than Fairy Tail?"
"I-I….don't know….."
Two and a half hours later the two badly injured teenagers were standing at the doorsteps to the familiar house that they had grown up in. They shared a glance before reaching out and knocking on the wooden door. It was quiet for a few seconds.
"JUST A SECOND!" A familiar voice shouted from the other side of the door. The two prepared themselves as the door slowly swung open.
"Who could be here at this ungodly hour, I mean seriously it's not even six yet…" The stern woman muttered as she opened the door but went quiet when the second door was fully opened, and she was standing face to face with her grandchildren who were trying to avoid her gaze. Her once black, and white hair has become fully grey over the years. But other than that she had hardly aged, the same couldn't be said about them.
"What're you two doing here?! I don't owe Jiemma anything…." She scoffed, looking furiously at them, but the rage in her eyes vanished as she studied their injuries.
"Jesus...what happened to you two, are you okay?" In a mere second all her anger disappeared and her maternal instincts came pouring out.
"We're okay Nana…..we just learned a harsh lesson…..that's it…." Sting spoke quietly. His eyes started to tear up.
"Oh hun, what happened?" Their grandma reached out to stroke his spikey blonde hair. There was no sarcasm, no animosity, just pure love in her voice.
"Our guild….was attacked...and, well you were right grandmother….we are so sorry it took us this long to realize it, but you were right….." Rogue spoke, his voice cracking and faster than they could imagine their grandmother pulled them both in for a tight hug.
"It's okay dear, the important thing is that you two are here, I was so scared that I lost you two forever….Not a day went by where I didn't miss you two….my heart ached everyday. That you are gone…I love you two so much…"
Wrapped up in their grandmother's loving embrace, the two finally understood the lesson she had tried to teach them all those years ago, the same one that Natsu had been preaching. As long as they fought only for themselves….they would never be truly strong. That's when they knew...Sabertooth had already lost the battle. Because Fairy Tail was fighting for their friends, that they had hurt. While Sabertooth was only trying to prove their superiority. The battle was over, and they lost. But that didn't matter, because right now they were finally reunited with their grandma.
