You would think by now the universe was done giving Jay and Olivia miracles. The universe had to be tired of looking at these two and going 'Christ, again with these two, fine last time.' And yet here they were with another granted miracle from the universe, and Olivia became the talk of the hospital. Her heart beat had become stronger, and she was breathing on her own pretty well. The only thing they were waiting for her to do was open her eyes.
"Daddy, i's hungry." James piped up.
"Okay buddy, let's go down to the cafeteria."
"We's cant leave mommy alone!"
"She not alone, she has Bucky remember?"
James' winter soldier figurine still nestled under Olivia's arm.
"I'll stay and watch thems, will's you get me a milkshake?"
James beamed his bright little smile up at Jay.
"Fine but this is the only one for the week, and you need to eat whatever I bring up for dinner first."
"O-tay…Banilla ice cream with rainbow spinkels and mem-eh-nems blended ins it."
Jay ruffled his hair.
"Okay, don't let mommy run off anywhere." Jay joked.
"Jay Halstead don't you dare throw me into that pool!"
"Why not, you can swim?"
"I have no other clothes!"
they're friends cheered Jay on as he sauntered over to the pool with his best friend over his shoulder. Olivia locked her arms around his waist in an effort to save herself.
"Woah, watch where you put your hands there Livi."
Smirking olivia rested them lower.
"Livi." Jay warned.
"Come on, I'll touch your dick if you don't throw me in."
Jay stopped at the edge of the pool.
"Really?"
Smirking again, olivia knew she won and let go of his waist.
"Yeah, yeah." She played along.
Suddenly she was airborne and then crashing into the cold water. She emerged taking deep breaths and pushing her hair from her face.
"Why would you do that!" She exclaimed.
"Because I knew you weren't serious!"
"How do you know! I might've even put it in my mouth." She winked.
With an eye roll, Jay canon balled into the pool, splashing her even more. When he came up she shoved water in his face before clinging behind him and wrapping her arms around his neck, pressing her cold lips to his cheek.
"Some best friend you are." She mummered.
Olivia felt as though fireworks were exploding in her head. Millions of memories and images soaring behind her closed eye lids. Her body ached so deep into her bones. She could faintly hear James over the booming sounds of her memories.
"Jay…Jay…" olivia called out, walking into his apartment.
Hank had called Olivia at work, asking if she heard from Jay. That's when it had dawned on her that he hadnt texted or called her that morning before the start of his shift like he usually did. Worried, since Hank said he didn't show up, she went to his place. Her and Jay had just exchanged copies of their keys with one another and now seemed like a good time to use hers.
The curtains on the windows had still been drawn shut, the tv was playing on low as she lightly padded into the apartment.
"Jay?" She called out again.
She went to put her bag down on the couch when she noticed him. Curled up in a ball under at least three blankets. Odd, because Jay was a human furnace. Crouching down, she felt his forehand to feel that he was burning up. He struggled to open his eyes against the cold touch of her hand.
"Livi?" He questioned.
"Yeah handsome, it's me."
"I…I think I'm sick."
Olivia gave him and sad smile.
"Yeah, I think so too. Want me to call Will?"
"No, you stay."
"Let me get you some meds and some fluids, you need something in your system."
Jay weakly tried to reach for her as she walked away.
"No, come back."
She returned a couple minutes later with some Tylenol and Gatorade. She gently sat him up and aided him in taking the medicine and a drink. She sat beside him and he laid his head in her lap and she combed her fingers through his hair.
"M'glad you came." He mumbled.
"You're the only family I got in this city. I'll always be here."
"So tell us everything about your date with that hot cop from the bar." One of her friends said.
She took a sip of wine and rolled her eyes. Olivia was sat around the fire pit in Diana's backyard one night after work with a few of the girls just enjoying the late evening.
"It wasn't a date." She commented.
"He picked you up, took you to dinner and he paid…it's a date."
"We're just friends, getting to know one another!" Olivia defended.
Olivia's phone flashed on the table next to her with an incoming call from Jay.
"And that's my cue to go ladies,' she swiped to answer the call, 'hey hold on for a second." She said to jay.
Olivia picked up her bag and turned to leave the group.
"You definitely put his dick in your mouth!" Diana yelled out.
"Oh my god." Olivia muttered as she walked out the yard. "Hey, sorry, I'm on my way home. Are you there yet?"
"Who's dick are you putting in your mouth?" Jay laughed.
"Yours apparently."
Jay chocked on the other end of the phone.
"I-no, we don't- that's not why-"
"Jay,' she interpreted, 'I know. Ill be home in five."
"Okay beautiful, drive safe."
Olivia smiled and hung up.
Olivia groaned and opened her eyes, the bright lights of the room blinding her. James was chatting away with his toys, too busy to realize his mom was awake.
"Hey baby boy."
James' head whipped around and he smiled widely.
"Mommy!"
He threw his arms around her neck and hugged her tightly.
"Where's daddy?"
"Hims getting me a milkshake."
"Ive missed you terribly james."
"Me too! But I knew if I left Bucky here to watch you, you'd wake up. Daddy is gones be so excited. And uncle Will, and Pop Pop Hank, and…and jus esy-body."
"I'm excited to see everyone too. Is daddy okay?"
"'Um, I think hims a whittle worried, but hims alright. He thinks I donts hears him cry at night, but i's do. So I pretend to has a nightmare so him doesn't has to sleep alone."
Olivia cupped her sons cheek.
"That's a very noble think to do for Daddy."
Jay was walking passed the nurses station when he heard them talking about the call button going off in Olivia's room. Jay sighed and apologized knowing it was probably james again. The girls smiled and waived off the call. Jay carefully balance pizza, chicken fingers and fries, a cheeseburger, a milk shake and a soda as he approached the doorway to Olivia's room.
"James, what did I tell you abo-"
Jay stood there frozen at the sight of olivia awake, and sitting up with James.
"Hi handsome." She said.
James jumped off the bed and ran to collide into his Father's legs.
"Surprise daddy! Mommy's awake! Mommy's awake!"
