This year we're doing crossovers for all seven days of Halloween, which means a couple of "repeats" for fandoms, but I think it will be a whole lot of fun. At the very least, I hope I can do something that I enjoy with each of these crossovers.
Day 1 (Oct. 25th)- Teen Titans and X-Men
Day 2 (Oct. 26th)- Ducktales and Big Hero 6
Day 3 (Oct. 27th)- The Good Place and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist
Day 4 (Oct. 28th)- Teen Titans and The Owl House
Day 5 (Oct. 29th)- Gravity Falls and Lilo and Stitch
Day 6 (Oct. 30th)- Gravity Falls and The Owl House
Day 7 (Oct. 31st)- Gravity Falls and Over The Garden Wall
This story is a Halloween spin-off of my 2019 Gravity Falls and Lilo and Stitch story, Gap Year. Gap Year just got the first update in two years last Tuesday so if you like this story then you might like that one! There are still spelling errors in the 9 chapters I wrote in 2019 but that's par for the course...
Some info you might want to know before reading this story: It's set in 2013 because it is. I used to refuse to admit that Gravity Falls was probably set in 2012 (which I now concede to) and so I did some fun mental math and decided that Gap Year was set in 2013 very closely following Weirdmaggedon. The other thing that I took creative liberties with was the ages and personalities of Wendy's siblings, as in the fic Lilo is staying with the Corduroys. I don't think Marcus (the canon name of the oldest Corduroy boy) was intended to be older than Wendy but I decided to put him as 18 and college-age like Lilo in the story. And they kind of have sparks. I wasn't gay in 2019 so all of my ships before 2020 were straight. Hopefully, you'll enjoy this fic anyway despite the comphet. More Gravity Falls and less comphet coming tomorrow!
Enjoy!
"Hey, Lilo, you wanna talk for a minute?" Marcus asked, knocking on the slightly ajar door before coming in.
"Why? Am I in trouble?" Lilo asked, laughing nervously. She was sitting on the makeshift desk in the Corduroy's guest room, writing in a journal Nani had given her.
"No, I just wanted to go over Halloween plans with you."
"Marc, Halloween isn't for like, three weeks."
"Yeah, but it's kind of a big deal here. It's hard to explain, but everyone in the Falls really, really loves Halloween."
"Okay, let's talk Halloween."
Marcus took a seat on the bed and fidgeted with his flannel. Now he was the one who looked nervous, and Lilo had half a guess as to why.
"Unless you had something other than Halloween to talk about?" Lilo asked, attempting to meet his eyes, which were half-covered by hair.
"So um… You and I… I was wondering…"
"Yes?" She smiled encouragingly at him.
"I was wondering if you wanted to dress up with me."
"Like, as a couple?" Lilo asked, blushing a little.
"...Yeah."
"Absolutely, Marcus Corduroy. I'd love to be in a couple's costume with you. I'd love to be half of a couple with you."
He turned bright red and stood up.
"Okay, great, awesome! I need to do some work, for my dad, I… We'll talk later, though. Brainstorm. Tonight! We can go for a walk and talk about things."
"I thought it was dangerous to walk around Gravity Falls at night," She pointed out, laughing a little.
"Oh, that's only when you go by yourself and break your ankle," He retorted, laughing as well, hand on the door, clearly not wanting to leave.
"I didn't break my ankle, I just twisted it a little. You know it's fine now."
"I know. See you later, Lilo. I look forward to tonight."
Lilo smiled and played with her pen, not looking away from Marcus, "So do I."
When she glanced back down at her journal, she noticed she'd started doodling hearts and groaned. So it was obvious to her subconscious, and to Wendy and to Marcus- but she was not going to let Nani find out about this "couple" thing.
Her phone rang. Crap.
"Lilo! How are you? How are things? How's your ankle?"
"My ankle is fine, Nani. It barely hurt when I visited, it's completely healed now."
"Good. I don't want you doing anything so dangerous again."
"I was just walking." Lilo hadn't told Nani about the monsters she'd encountered that night. She hadn't told anyone about the monsters she'd encountered that night.
"Alone, at night. That's dangerous, stupidhead."
"Yeah, yeah, you're right, per usual. Why'd you call?"
"Just wanted to see how you were. I worry about you, so far away."
"And I worry about you guys. How are the littles?"
"They miss you terribly. But they're doing good."
"I miss them too."
"How's your friend? Marco?"
"Marcus. He's doing good, I think," Lilo said, lit up in a blush.
"He seemed so nice when you visited."
"He is," Lilo readily agreed.
"You like him, don't you?"
"Yeah, he's my friend. He's a solid dude."
"Lilo, you know what I mean."
"How'd you know?" Lilo said with a groan.
"I know everything, remember?"
"Yeah, yeah."
"So does he like you back?"
Lilo took a deep breath, "I think so. We've had… Moments. And today he asked me to be in a couple's costume with him. And I said yes."
Nani whooped on the other end, "That's my girl! Go get your lumberjack boyfriend."
"He's not a lumberjack- wait no actually I think he is. He's definitely not my boyfriend. Not yet, at least."
"Well, whatever. I support you, Lilo, no matter what. I always will."
"Thanks, Nani. Honestly, I didn't know the weirdest thing I'd face in Gravity Falls was going to be my feelings."
"That's how feelings work. They're quiet, at first, and then, all of the sudden, it's everything. The only thing."
"Yeah…"
"I'll let you go, Lilo, you clearly have a lot to think about. Remember that you can call at any time. And we're always just a rocket ship away."
"I'll visit again in November," Lilo promised.
"Good. Love you, Lilo."
"Aloha, Nani."
Lilo hopped off the desk and flopped down on her bed, head full of complicated thoughts. She liked Marcus, but she couldn't fully explain why. It wasn't because he was her type, she hadn't had a type before now… But he was thoughtful and handsome and he seemed to get her. They were two weirdos taking a gap year who had found each other despite being from opposite worlds. And she liked him. This was new, but she liked that too.
There were a few confused fireflies, or perhaps pixies, out as they walked through the woods that night. Lilo was wearing his jacket, even though she'd dug some of her warmer clothes out of storage when she'd visited home. Their hands dangled next to each other but neither of them made the first move. They were both clearly scared of something other than whatever was in the woods.
"So," he said after a moment, "Halloween."
"Yeah, Halloween. What should we do?"
"I um… That's a good question."
"We could be a vampire and a werewolf."
"Is that romantic?" He blurted.
"Are we going for romantic?" She asked, kicking the ball right back into his court.
"I was hoping to…"
"Well, I've always thought that there was a lot of romantic potential between vampires and werewolves, but if you don't think so…"
"No, it's a good idea, let's just keep brainstorming."
It became clear after a few minutes of brainstorming that neither of them was very well-versed in romance. The most romantic movies Lilo had ever watched starred Elvis, she vastly preferred sci-fi. With three absolutely unhinged younger siblings, Marcus had ended up mostly watching gritty survival films or cheap horror.
"What about Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein?" Lilo asked after a bit, kicking a rock.
"I guess that's romantic. Yeah, sure, why not?"
"What about us?"
"What about us?" He asked, clearly a little confused.
"I've been waiting for you to say it this whole time but- Marc, what are we?"
"We, um, we-"
"We're dressing up together for Halloween in a semi-romantic costume. What does that make us?"
"I guess we could be dating?"
"We could be. Do you want to be?"
"Yeah. I do. I really like you, Lilo, and I'm sorry I'm bad at showing it… I don't know a lot about romance."
"I don't either," Lilo said, taking his hand now, "But I do know that I like you too. And I'm excited to figure out what happens next together."
He squeezed her hand, face feeling warm, "Together."
