I've already started working on the next chapter but as I said before I might try to get two chapters out at a time so you see both sides of the coin, Ryan and Chad's view on things. Also if you think things are moving too fast now yes you're probably right but this is my gay fanfic lol so write your own XD

Ryan's summer job was supposed to be keeping Sharpay from going overboard but it seemed like their tickets were already booked for the Titanic. No matter what she had, Sharpay always wanted more. And that summer she wanted Troy Bolton.

And Ryan? Ryan just wanted to not go down with the ship. He wasn't expecting much from this summer. He certainly wasn't expecting a summer romance of his own.

And then he had gone golfing with the cutest caddy he'd ever laid eyes on.

While his sister tore into Troy like a dog with a bone, Ryan found himself getting close to Chad. Something he had never ever thought could happen. Because Chad was a tough, manly athlete who had only ever noticed Ryan as an extension of Sharpay. But today had been different. Today had been nice.

Today Ryan had felt like his own person, a person that Chad saw and seemed to like.

It didn't matter, of course. Because Chad was in a relationship with Taylor, probably straight as an arrow. But he'd still asked Ryan to come to watch him play baseball and Ryan couldn't help getting butterflies.

He stayed awake thinking about it, how this was the start of something new, something exciting. He'd have to stay guarded, protecting himself the way he always tried to protect Sharpay, but it couldn't hurt to have feelings, right? It couldn't hurt to have a crush, right?

Well, it might, when his feelings were inevitably unrequited, or if his father found out. His father knew he was gay, of course. Anyone with half a functioning brain knew he was gay. Knowing and really accepting it were two separate things, however. And Vance Evans had a hard time accepting things that did not go according to his plan. At this point, Ryan didn't know what his father's plan for him was but he had a good feeling that it did not include the cute caddy, Chad Danforth.

Ryan didn't think much of it until the baseball game. Sure, he had stolen glances in Chad's direction, and sometimes it seemed like the athlete was returning the glance. But other than that, nothing. Anyway, Sharpay had asked him to keep an eye on the staff. Wasn't that what he was doing, when he found himself standing face to face with Chad at the baseball game?

They both played hard and they played well, exchanging playful taunts as Ryan tried to get Chad to commit to the club talent show. If Ryan hadn't had to keep his eye on the ball, he would have been staring at Chad the entire time.

"I said you could come watch," Chad said afterward, slinging a sweaty arm around Ryan's shoulder as they veered away from the others, "Not nearly annihilate me at my own game."

Ryan shivered a little when Chad wrapped an arm around him. Surely this was casual, platonic. But it felt so intimate, and Chad was so close.

"Well, I've had a little experience. But you did amazing out there, really. It was," their faces were so close, "breathtaking."

Apparently, Chad felt the closeness, the intimacy, the spark between them as well, because suddenly he was pressing his lips against Ryan's.

Ryan sputtered in disbelief after that as Chad began to apologize and then he initiated a kiss of his own. Which led to a lot more kissing in the dugout, which led to them swapping spit and clothes before returning to the others. They were both flush and silent but beaming, this happiness a delicious secret between them. Almost as delicious as Gabriella's mom's brownies.

"What on earth are you wearing?" Sharpay scoffed when Ryan returned, still feeling all floaty after making out with Chad.

"A baseball uniform. I played in the staff baseball game today. It was really fun."

"Good, keeping an eye on them, then. That's perfect."

"It was perfect," Ryan said, unable to hide his smile, "I'm really getting to know Chad, in particular."

Sharpay gave him a knowing look, "Well, you're supposed to be keeping an eye on Gabriella."

"I am. She was there. She's fine. Maybe a bit distracted. It probably really upsets her that Troy has been off in Sharpay land."

Sharpay smiled at that.

"Exactly where we want him."

"Where you want him. You know I can't condone what you're doing."

"Then why are you helping, bat boy?"

"Maybe I'm not doing any of this for you. Maybe I'm hanging out with people who value me for me."

"Oh, sure. Chad Danforth values you. He's just another dumb jock, and this is a job for him. Being nice to you is a job for him."

That cut deep and so Ryan had to cut back, "I bet Chad cares way more about me than Troy cares about you. Because, news flash sister, this is even more of a job for Troy. He wouldn't even look at you if you weren't waving opportunities under his nose."

"Like you're waving cash under Chad's nose?"

"I just gave him a tip, oh my gosh Sharpay! It's called paying the employees."

"So you're admitting that he's just an employee?"

"No, he's my classmate and my friend and he happens to work here."

"Whatever." Sharpay flounced off and Ryan was filled with angry, complicated feelings. There was so much uncertainty in the air but he knew one thing, he had to reach out to Chad.
