Some hurt/comfort for this fic that everyone probably forgot about. This chapter has been half-written for months and I finally got back into it. I'm trying to update a bunch of my older stories but we'll see how that works out.
This one's super short but y'know, I don't care haha.
"Boyd…" Louie mumbled, his face pressed into Boyd's shoulder. They'd just gotten out of the phase where Mo had to sleep in the bed with them every night or he'd have a meltdown. That should have meant they were able to sleep easier but clearly that wasn't the case.
"What do you need, Lou?" Boyd asked with a tired sigh.
"Do you think he's okay? Maybe we should go check on him…"
"Lou, he's fine. He would cry or come in here if he needed anything. He's a big kid now."
"No, no, no, don't say that," Louie protested, "He's five, he's our little baby boy and he loves and needs us."
"He does love us but he does not need us every second of every day. We should be encouraging his transition to a big kid bed."
"It's a race car," Louie said.
"He's still growing up."
"No," Louie howled, burying his head in Boyd's back, "He's too little to grow up."
"Little things get bigger. He's five now. He wants to sleep in his own bed and we need to let him. It's not like he's going off to college, he's just sleeping in the other room. Please try to go to sleep yourself," Boyd said gently.
Louie didn't say anything after that, but Boyd felt tears begin to drip on his pajama shirt. Boyd pulled away and turned around.
"Louie?" Boyd reached over and wiped the tears away, "are you okay?"
"I want to check on him," Louie sniffled, feeling humiliated now, "I know it's stupid…"
Boyd sighed and rubbed Louie's arm, "It's not stupid dear. I know you're just worried about our son. There's nothing to worry about but there's no shame in being worried. I'm sorry I downplayed your concerns."
Louie sniffled again, "I'm sorry I'm so extra…"
"It's okay, Louie, I married you, I signed up for this. Let's go check on Mo."
"Really?" Louie sat up and Boyd nodded.
They snuck through the house, feeling a little bit like ninjas. They wanted to check on him but they did not want to wake him up. That could be chaos.
Mo was doing fine, fast asleep, arms wrapped around a stuffed Cthulhu stuffed animal that Huey had gotten him. He looked happy, deep in his dreams, probably solving a mystery or befriending a vampire.
Louie looked at Boyd, a look that conveyed relief and satisfaction, and they silently went back to bed.
"Feeling better?"
"Yeah. He's safe. He's happy." Louie still felt a little uneasy as he spooned his husband.
"Louie, he's still little. He's still going to need us for a long time. We're still going to be his dads for the rest of our lives."
"Yeah…" Louie smiled now, holding Boyd closer.
"Good night, love."
"Good night…"
