Adam was in the cage with Ryan, a fierce angry look in his eyes. His body was fueled with anger and adrenaline.
"Let's talk Ryan" Adam spoke, his voice hard.
"Talk about what?" Ryan snapped.
"You know what. Your brother possibly being Sophia's father. That's what"
"Fine if you must know, Emma was dating me and my brother at the same time. Ian is a possessive little shit face. Emma didn't like it, it was scaring her if anything. She came to me for help. Normally the little prick listens to me. While I was helping her, I caught feelings and we started seeing each other behind Ian's back. We slept together once. I guess she had slept with Ian around that time too because a few weeks later she turned up pregnant. I guess she told me I was the father because she didn't want Ian to be the father"
"Why couldn't you convince her to come to me for help? Why didn't you?"
"I told her to go to you, she said she had and you were taking care of it. When I heard about Emma's accident I got here as fast as I could. My guess is Ian must have found out and went after Emma"
"Can you be sure?"
"Right before the accident, Emma called freaking out thinking she saw Ian. She said Ian threatened her and said she'd pay for taking Sophia from him. Think that's a coincidence? If I had to guess the little shit killed Emma and planned on taking Sophia"
"Where would your brother go?"
"You're asking me as if I know"
Without thinking Adam grabbed him. "Don't make me ask you again"
"Make me a deal. I'll give you the little shit on a silver platter"
"What kind of deal?"
"I help you get Sophia back, I wanna be in her life. Be the father she deserves. I don't care if Ian's her father or not. I took care of that little girl from day one. I'll follow all your conditions. I'll do whatever it takes to be in her life even if it means getting along with you"
"You help me find Ian, I'll do what I can to help you out. You get yourself on a straight path. I'll let you be in Sophia's life"
"That's all I ask. Can you get off me now?"
Adam released him. "Where would he go?"
"We grew up on the southside, a lot of houses but knowing my dumbass brother he'd go back to our old childhood house. Nobody lives there as far as I remember"
"Let's take a ride"
Adam had snuck out the door with Ryan going to the house. At the house, Sophia was still in a room. The house was empty, Ian had been gone for hours. He gave Sophia food before he left and kept her locked in one of the rooms upstairs. To make sure she couldn't get out he had switched the knobs and locked it from the outside.
The seven-year-old looked out the window and saw she wasn't that far down from the ground and the window was near a big tree. She had been a good tree climber, thankfully it was an old house so the lock was broken so she opened the window and climbed onto the branch and started climbing. She climbed slowly so she wouldn't fall, just as she made it halfway down she lost her balance and fell.
Soon Ian came up and saw her, he was livid. He got out of the car and ran towards her. What stopped him was a car tearing down the street. It was Adam and Ryan. Ryan was driving and went faster seeing his brother, Adam, glancing at him.
"I'll get Ian, you just get Sophia to safety" Adam told him.
"No, this is between me and my brother" Ryan spoke sharply.
"Ryan, if you do anything you'll lose all chance in seeing Sophia. Let me handle this"
The man gritted his teeth. "Fine"
Adam got out of the car. "Ian Parker! Chicago PD!"
Ian turned as much as he wanted to take Sophia and run but instead he took off by himself, leaving Sophia. Adam chased after Ian while Ryan ran to his daughter. Sophia saw him and backed up.
"Soph, it's ok. I won't hurt you. I came with your uncle to help get you back" Ryan told her gently"
"You promise?" She spoke softly.
"I promise. You can trust me. Let's get you back to the car"
"I can walk, my knee and ankle hurts"
"I gotcha"
He carefully lifted her up and carried her to the car, Ryan sat with her but knew he couldn't leave Adam alone with his brother. Ian would kill him with no remorse. Taking a deep breath he looked at his daughter.
"Soph, I need you to do me a really really big favor"
"What?" She sounded scared.
Taking his phone out of his pocket he gave it to her. "Take my phone, call your uncle's team and get them here. Once you do that hide on the floor and don't unlock the door for anyone. Can you do that?"
"I..I guess so. Where are you going?"
"I have to go help your uncle"
"You'll come back won't you?"
"Of course I will. I need you to be really really brave for me I know you can"
She nodded while taking the phone, he kissed her head and locked the door. Ryan took off running after Adam and his brother. Like he told the young detective, it's between him and his brother. Adam was still chasing Ian as they were running down an alley.
"Ian Parker! Chicago PD! Stop!" Adam yelled the command.
The man had stopped and chuckled evilly. "You won't kill me"
"You wanna bet?"
He saw Ian reaching for something and held the gun at him. "Stop moving or so help me I'll drop you where you stand!"
Ian pulled his own gun out and aimed it at the detective with an evil grin on his face. "Drop the gun detective"
"Not a chance in hell, not till you do"
"I gave Emma the chance to tell the truth but she wouldn't. She lied to me, hid my daughter from me. I wasn't letting her get away with it. She had to pay the consequences. She should have known that actions have consequences"
That had fueled Adam's anger even more, it made his finger twitch on the trigger of his gun, wanting to fire it. That's all it took. He fires the gun and shoots Ian, killing him. Sophia would be safe forever. But then that also meant that a full investigation of what went down, he could potentially lose everything and go to jail. His little niece wouldn't have him anymore. All she would have is his father.
"I'm not going to say it again, drop the weapon now!"
"Why don't you make me?"
Ryan kept running to find Adam and his brother; he stopped when he heard. BANG! BANG! BANG!
