Earlier
It started as a normal day in the Voight household, Hank was getting ready for work and Jordan, now 16 was getting ready for school. It had been an emotional day for Jordan, it was the anniversary she had lost her mother. Even though she had been a baby when she did she had grieved every year. After losing her brother and then her baby, she tried not to lose control completely.
Oftentimes when his daughter didn't know, Hank would skip would and spend the day drinking a bit. He tried not to drink too much but enough to numb the pain. The older man had usually tried to be sober by the time he saw his daughter again.
Jordan grabbed her backpack and thermos of coffee, before she left she had gone to hug her father. Closing her eyes tightly to block the tears, she bit her lip. It never got any easier over the years. Hank just wrapped his daughter in a hug and kissed her head.
"It'll be alright sweetheart. Everything's gonna be fine" Hank whispered.
"Promise me you'll be careful today" Jordan had whispered.
"I'll do my very best sweetheart"
Hank hadn't told her he was taking off work and staying home, the older man had still also been grieving Alvin's death. Hank had been on the verge of snapping himself. He's lost so many people he's loved, the only one he has left is his precious little girl. If he lost her that would be it. Jordan was the only thing, the only person that was keeping him from going over the ledge into darkness.
The father and daughter had left as he took her to school, Jordan had her ear buds in as the music played. When Hank glanced at his daughter he felt his heart ache with pain, he'd rather be the one suffering in pain than his daughter. God what he wouldn't do to take her pain.
After arriving at the school Hank parked and leaned over kissing her head. "I understand if you don't wanna go today. You don't have to"
"Thanks dad, I just rather go keep busy so I don't think about it"
"Alright. If you feel you can't handle it just call me, I'll come get you"
The sixteen-year-old leaned over and kissed her father's cheek. "I love you dad"
"I love you too kiddo. Try and have a good day"
Once Jordan had gotten out of the car she went inside the school she knew her father was watching. Hank made sure his daughter went inside the school once she had been safely inside he pulled away. He just drove and drove, before he knew it he went to the cemetery and walked to a grave. Anna's grave. He'd done it every year, like with Camille.
Anna was his chance at finding happiness again, she made him happy. She gave him the best gift of all in the form of their beautiful daughter. But then she had been killed in action when Jordan was only a baby. Since then Hank refused to let himself get remotely close to anyone ever again. He had his daughter, friends, and his job. That was all he needed. It's all he would ever need.
Bending down he had put fresh flowers down and stood to his full height, it had started raining and it came down hard. With the rain coming down it was hard to tell if Hank had been crying. He just stood there not moving. After what seemed like an eternity Hank had left the cemetery, he started to drive again and found himself at a bar.
Between Alvin's death still hanging on him and the anniversary of Anna's death, Hank didn't wanna deal with any of it. He'd been drinking a lot since the loss of his best friend but never once around his daughter. That would easily cause her to either fall off the wagon herself or blame herself. He remembered he'd drag himself from the bars after drinking too much and getting a cab home and passing out on the couch. He couldn't burden her with that. She'd been struggling with her own sobriety.
Hank had stayed at the bar a while lost in his thoughts but tried to pay close attention to the time so he wouldn't forget his daughter at school.
Meanwhile
During one of her classes, Jordan had asked to go to the bathroom, grabbing her bag she left the classroom and instead of going to the bathroom she headed for the exit door of the school. As soon as she was outside she felt the cold rain come down hard. She didn't care, she left the school and started walking.
She'd forgotten her jacket but she just walked like a zombie, she had tried to deal with school but couldn't handle it. Every nerve in her body was tingling. God what she wouldn't do for a fix to make it stop. It seemed like every year it got more and more. When she was younger, she never knew what death was or how to cope. She cried as Hank held her. As she got older she grieved every year.
Little did Jordan know, someone had been following her in a car. They had kept their distance. The teen was just walking and walking zoning out. The car that had been following her stopped and the person got out and walked over shoving her into the alley.
Before Jordan had a chance to act she had been thrown down, the person had thrown punch after punch, kick after kick to her midsection. One of the blows had gone to her head. She couldn't see as her vision was blurry. As she tried to move, pain filled her body. Unimaginable pain. She tried to reach out but couldn't. Suddenly there was a loud BANG!
The person had shot Jordan and walked away dropping the gun, the teen laid there bleeding out. She had attempted to move but couldn't, she tried to talk but couldn't. Slowly she laid there bleeding as she slowly awaited death.
Hank left the bar he had been at and he heard the loud bang and went to check it out. When he got to his car it had been broken into and his gun missing. Being drunk he briefly pushed it out of his head. He wasn't far from where the gun shot was. He walked there. When he got there he stopped frozen in his tracks.
It had been his little girl laying there on the ground, his gun next to her. He quickly reacted by putting pressure on her wound.
"Jo Jo, Jo Jo stay with me baby. Stay with me"
The teen was unconscious, she wasn't moving. Her face had some bruises, a few cuts. Hank had pulled his phone out and called for help. His focus had been on his little girl as she was slipping away.
Within minutes the street lit up with cops and an ambulance. Brett and Foster had gotten out and ran to the teen. Intelligence had arrived as well. When they had seen the scene in front of them, their boss, Jordan, almost looked dead.
Jordan had been loaded onto the board and stretcher, they loaded her inside. Foster had gone around to the driver side and Brett was working on her. Hank ran trying to get inside but was stopped by Antonio. The senior detective had smelt the alcohol on his breath. He didn't want to make this assumption.
"Hank, Jordan's going to be fine. Why don't we go down to the district" Antonio says.
"No. I'm going to be with my daughter" Hank argued. "She's my child not yours and you're sure as hell not keeping her from me"
"He's not but I will" Came a female voice. It was Katherine Brennan. "You are a suspect in your daughter's attack pending an investigation. You are suspended until further notice"
"If any of you think I'd ever lay a hand on my daughter you're crazy! I'd die before I hurt Jordan! None of you are keeping me from my daughter"
"Detective Dawson arrest him"
"What?" Antonio asked, his voice filled with shock.
"Arrest him for the assault against his daughter. Do not let him near her. Until the investigation is complete, Sergeant Voight is to not go near Jordan"
Hank went and got near Brennan. "You have no right keeping me from my daughter"
"I just did. Detective Dawson, arrest him or I will find someone who will" Brennan glanced at the senior detective.
Swallowing hard he took out his cuffs and cuffed Hank. "Hank Voight, you're under arrest for the assault and attempted murder of Jordan Voight"
