Chapter 4 Family Dinner

Yuki's POV

I was sitting in a café with Haru.

Today would be my last day before I moved away for college.

"So", Haru started. "What are you going to do on your last day here?"

"Well", I started. "First, I'm going to spend the afternoon with Machi, and then, tonight we're going over to Ayame's place for dinner. Kakeru and his girlfriend Komaki are coming too."

After I said this…I brought my coffee mug to my lips and added…

"And…I invited my mother too."

"You invited Tohru", Haru asked in confusion.

"No", I replied in annoyance. "I invited my biological mother."

"Oh", Haru said in realisation. "Why? Isn't she ticked that you decided to go to a college that wasn't the one she picked out for you?"

"She is", I replied. "But since I actually have a relationship with my brother now, albeit reluctantly, I want to at least try and have a relationship with her too. And the fact that she agreed to come to the dinner makes me think that she wants to try too."

"Or she wants to criticise you for your life choices", Haru added. "Like all parents do."

"Maybe", I agreed. "But if she does so, then I'll just take it in my stride."

That Night

Machi and I had arrived at Ayame's place.

The door opened, and we were greeted by Ayame and Mine.

"Welcome dear brother", he greeted before grabbing and pulling me into a bone crushing hug.

After he let me go, he turned to look at Machi, and then also grabbed and pulled her into a bone crushing hug.

"And welcome to you as well my dear sister law!"

Hearing Ayame call Machi 'sister in law' made both of our faces turn red.

"Ayame", I scolded. "Don't call her that!"

"And why can I not", Ayame asked. "You are going to marry her someday after all, so I may as well already start referring to her as my sister in law."

Before I could say anything about this…I heard someone start humming 'Here Comes the Bride.'

I looked over Ayame's shoulder, and saw Kakeru.

"Get back here", I commanded.

Then, I chased Kakeru into the living room, where Komaki already was.

"Live him alone Kakeru", she scolded.

"Relax", Kakeru reassured. "I'm just teasing my Yun-Yun."

Komaki just rolled her eyes before walking up to Machi.

"You look beautiful", she stated.

"So do you", Machi stated.

Then…we all heard knocking at the door.

"That would be mother", Ayame revealed. "Be right back."

With that, Ayame went to answer the door, and I turned to look at Machi.

I could tell that she was nervous about meeting my mother, so…I took her hand in mine.

"Don't worry", I reassured. "It'll be okay."

Hearing me say this calmed Machi down, which made her smile, making me smile as well.

However…that smile faded when my mother walked in, from both my and Machi's faces.
