Chapter 4 The Future
Raven's POV
I was getting ready in my room when there was a knock on the door.
"Coming", I yelled.
Then, I grabbed my backpack before opening the door and finding Damian waiting for me.
"Ready to go", he asked.
"Ready", I replied before pulling my hood over my forehead and closing the door.
Then Damian and I started walking together.
"By the way", he started. "Happy birthday."
This took me by surprise.
"Wait", I started. "That's today?"
"Um…", Damian started in confusion. "Yeah. It is."
With that, I quickly took out my phone and looked at my calendar.
"It is today", I said in realisation. "How did I forget that?"
"You forgot your own birthday", Damian asked in disbelief.
"I guess that my mind has been preoccupied", I pointed out. "You know, with going to a new school and all."
"I guess that you have a point there", Damian agreed before changing the subject. "So, how does it feel to be eighteen?"
"Huh", I started in realisation. "I guess that I am eighteen now."
"Yeah", Damian agreed. "You're officially a grown up now."
"You make me sound old", I jokingly stated, getting a laugh out of Damian.
However, his statement did get me thinking.
I'm a grown up now.
…
I was now in class listening to the teacher speak.
"You are all seniors now", he pointed out. "Therefore, it is about time that you start seriously thinking about your future."
Just like what Damian had said earlier, this statement got me thinking.
"If someone would please come to the front of the classroom", the teacher started. "I have with me some pamphlets for some colleges and universities that may interest you."
That is how I ended up with college and university pamphlets on my desk.
Seeing them got me thinking even more.
My future.
Damian's POV
Something was definitely up with Raven.
As we were walking together this morning, she seemed to suddenly get deep in thought.
She still seemed the same during lunch, and even now as we were studying together in her room, she still seemed lost in thought.
I've asked her about it multiple times, but she kept on saying she's fine.
Feeling defeated, I went to get something from her desk. However, when I got there, I noticed something in her trash can.
I got a closer look, and saw that it was college and university pamphlets.
Why would she throw them away?
This just further proved that something was going on.
Now determined, I took the pamphlets out of the trash can before walking up to Raven.
"Okay Raven", I started getting her attention. "What's wrong?"
"What do mean", Raven asked. "Nothing's…"
Before Raven could answer, I dropped the pamphlets onto the table, taking her by surprise.
"Why were these in your trash can", I asked.
"Oh", Raven started. "I just…wasn't really interested in any of those…"
"Raven", I interrupted before kneeling down next to her. "What. Is. Wrong?"
