Chapter 13 Goodbye, for Now
Mimmi's POV
My mother and I were watching Chris from a distance.
"That land boy", she started. "He saved us."
"He did", I said.
"All this time", my mother started. "After your father was killed by land people, I thought that they were all evil. I now see how wrong I was."
"Really", I asked.
"Really", my mother replied.
Then…she turned to look at me with a stern look on her face.
"Now young lady", she started. "Now that everything has settled, it is time to discuss what you have done."
After my mother had said this, I looked down and sighed sadly.
"Mother", I started, as tears began to well up in my eyes. "I…I…I am so sorry!"
After I had said this, I burst out crying!
"This was all of my fault", I stated. "I let my selfishness desires nearly destroy everything!"
After I had said this, my mother looked at me sympathetically.
Then, she pulled me into a hug, taking me by surprise.
"The blame isn't on you alone", she stated.
"It isn't", I asked in shock.
"It isn't", my mother replied. "If I had not been so misguided in my judgement of land people, and had I not been as harsh on you for being so fascinated by them, then maybe we could've avoided this whole mess in the first place."
"That…", I started. "That doesn't matter. What I did wasn't right."
"All that matters now is that you are safe", my mother stated before hugging me. "We shall worry about everything else later."
"Okay", I said.
Then…I heard Chris calling out my name.
"Mimmi", he called out.
When he did, I turned around to look at him.
He was waving at me to come and talk to him.
I turned to face my mother, who nodded.
I smiled before swimming up to Chris.
"Mimmi", he started. "Are you okay?"
"I'm okay", I replied. "Thanks to you."
"Indeed", my mother agreed as she swam up to us. "I am in great debt to you young man."
"Thank you…", Chris started.
"This is my mom", I revealed.
"Oh", Chris said. "It's nice to meet you ma'am!"
"The pleasure is all mine", my mother replied. "Anyway, my daughter and I must return home now."
"I see", Chris said sadly before looking at me. "Will I ever get to see you again Mimmi?"
I was about to answer, but my mother did for me.
"Not for a while", my mother replied. "This girl is grounded."
"Wait a minute", I started in realization. "Does that mean…I can come back someday?!"
"If you behave from now on", my mother replied. "If you do, I will give you a Moon Ring so that you can transform into a human when dry."
"Really", I said happily. "Okay then! I'll behave!"
After I said this, I turned to look at Chris.
"I'll see you later Chris!"
"See you later", Chris greeted. "The little mermaid."
