What If…?
Agnarr and Iduna Chose to Isolate Both Sisters Together?
After putting both Anna and Elsa to bed, Agnarr and Iduna locked themselves in their room to discuss what to do.
"We can't isolate ourselves in the time it'll take Elsa to learn how to keep her powers under check." Iduna said in a low voice. "It won't be good for the kingdom's economy, our relations with other nations or even our reputation with our people."
"You think I don't know that?" Agnarr groaned as he rubbed his temples. He sat down on the bed and put his head in his hands. "Even if Elsa can control of her powers, there's still the prophecy to consider."
Iduna rested her hand on her husband's shoulder. From the moment Elsa started showing her powers, they've lived a life already inundated with secrets. At least once a day Iduna had to remind the girls "Magic must stay secret" and come up with clever excuses to clean up the snow and ice without letting the staff become suspicious. She'd lost track of how many times her heart raced upon a servant seeing her with wet towels or Anna and Elsa building snowmen near important visitors.
But tonight's scare was one step too far. It had to be nipped in the bud.
For all their sakes.
"I don't like telling Elsa that she has to stop. Lord, that's like telling you to stop inventing or ice fishing." Agnarr said, his voice a defeated tone. The last time he spoke like that was shortly after his father died. "But it's just a matter of time before someone outside our circle finds out. And what if the person decides Elsa is the Ruler with the Frozen Heart?"
Induna embraced him, kissing his hollow cheek. "She should be allowed to play and experiment with her powers in a safe place. Elsa won't be a child forever. You only became King at fourteen."
"But where can she be safe?"
A long silence formed as the pair mused on their thoughts. Iduna looked up at the large vanity mirror. A drawing Anna had made hung from it. It was of four stick figures with crowns on their heads beside a log house with a bright red door open over a dark space.
An open door…
"The Sommerhus." Iduna said, her eyes lightening up.
It was the answer to all their problems.
"What about it?" Agnarr asked.
"It's out in the countryside, is somewhat isolated so Anna and Elsa both can run around and play. We can send them with a few trusted servants and tutors." Iduna spoke, her hands twitching. "And we can visit whenever we like but still be close enough to home. And on some days we can bring the girls home."
Agnarr brightened. "Elsa would have somewhere safe to be who she is and practice her powers." His face darkened. "But we will need to do something else. We will need to inform Anna what she needs to do now."
A/N: I know a big source of the tension was Elsa's self imposed isolation but to me it really didn't seem necessary to isolate both sisters from each other. Isolate them away from court? Yeah, that works. Isolating the entire royal family away from not only the kingdom but their duties (like who was really running the kingdom) really didn't make a lot of sense to me.
One of the best parts of Frozen II to me was Agnarr and Iduna's relationship and watching how they came together and fell in love despite the circumstances that brought them together in the first place and I love exploring it further here.
Tune in next week when we look at Anna becoming Elsa's Secret Keeper.
