Chapter 24: The Camera Never Lies (part 1)

[An old video plays on the TV that hangs on the wall of the Juicenet cafe, with everyone watching it. The video follows some footsteps that go along the beach, trailing behind some boots that are leaving the prints in the sand. Suddenly the one wearing the boots begins to run, everyone watches in curiosity, including the girls and Lewis who are sitting at their regular booth. Zane, Miriam, Tiffany, and Nate are over at the counter, the former two sitting at a table next to the other two, watching the short film.]

"What is this?" Charlotte asked, pointing to the video. "Ah, this is the short film contest that Wilfred hosts every year. Every contestant has to create a short film on the topic of his choice and play it in the café," Lewis explained. "Okay, but what's happening in the video?" Bella asked. "You'll have to find out for yourself," Lewis smiled.

[The boot trail comes to an end as the person falls casually to the ground, revealing a toddler who smiles and picks his feet up, taking off the boots. Everyone chuckles, loving the adorable little surprise. The kid then gets up and does a pose, where some words come on the screen that says 'Big Boots to Fill' on it. The video comes to an end, fading out.]

"Aww, that's so adorable!" Bella cooed.

"That's so cute. Is that your little brother?" Sam asked, smiling gently. "Nope. That's my cousin," Lewis said. He has a little cousin too? Charlotte thought with a bit jealousy. Great, brothers I didn't know of, a cousin I didn't know of. What's next, he has a sister?

Wilfred: picks the remote up and turns the tv off, then addresses the crowd. "'Big Boots to Fill,' by Lewis McCartney, the winning entry from last year's junior filmmakers' competition." He walks over to the pool table and puts some fliers down on it. Cleo, who is sitting next to him, gives him a proud smile, and Lewis returns it.

"Congratulations. It looked great," Annette told him. "Thanks, but it did require a lot of bribing. Mainly cookies," Lewis said, thinking of his little cousin's demands. They chuckle in reply, Cleo shakes her head.

Emma: and Rikki sit across from them. She talks to the others. "If we're gonna win this thing, we have to be aware of the rules."

Rikki: leans in and shrugs. "Forget the rules. It's a short film contest. We make a short film. How hard can it be?"

"A lot harder than you think," Zane muttered, thinking of what happened to his film.

"Emma's right. You need to know the rules so all your efforts don't go to waste," Neil said. "Yeah, I guess so. Especially since the rules were so restricting," Rikki sighed. "How so?" Ash asked. Rikki points to the screen.

Cleo: "Last year, they rejected an entry because it was seven seconds over three minutes." Rikki looks away, as their attention gets drawn back to Wilfred.

"Seven seconds? They couldn't have been reasonable with that?" Bev asked. "Well, they couldn't let the rules slide for just anyone, so I guess it makes sense. And they could've just edited it down a little," Lisa reasoned. "Rules are rules," Emma said.

Wilfred: leans against the pool table, talking to the crowd once more. "Ok, filmmakers, this year's theme is heroes."

"Heroes? That sounds interesting," Max said. "Yeah, well, some of us had different ideas when it came to heroes," Rikki commented, looking over at Emma who sighed.

Wilfred: waves his hands out in suspense, then looks over at Zane. "And courtesy of Zane's father, the very generous, and wealthy, Dr. Harrison Bennett," Emma rolls her eyes at the mention of the name and Rikki shakes her head slightly. "This year's prize money has doubled."

"I'm guessing I rubbed off on you girls the wrong way," Harrison chuckled as if it were nothing. But he knew that later, they did have a good reason to. "Believe me, you have no idea," Emma said quietly through gritted teeth. Thinking about the past events from their last little 'get together.' The planned resort on Mako, the plans with Denman, baiting them into a trap, looking at them as if they were nothing but dollar signs. The thought of it only angered her even more. Only scared her even more.

"Leave him alone, at least he agreed to keep it a secret afterwards. And he did apologize to us. You should try to forgive him," Rikki whispered. The only thing coming to her mind, including the stuff that Emma thought, was that he was trying to make up for the time he lost with Zane, by trying to be a good father again. She felt like she could trust him, especially since he was okay with her now, and kept their secret. Even if they did trick him and Denman into believing they lost their powers forever. She shuttered a little at the reminder, hoping that scene won't be revealed either.

Emma huffed in response, believing she could never forgive the people who tried to expose her to the world. The people who tried to make her worst nightmare come to life. But she did give it a slight thought. After all, even though she hated saying it, Rikki was right. He did keep quiet about it and did apologize, but the thought still terrified her.

"Sorry, Dr. Bennett," Cleo winced. Unlike Emma, she was on the same side as Rikki. Believing he should be given a second chance. "It's alright," Harrison said.

Rikki: and the rest of them at the booth perks up, smiling at the thought of winning that money. "Sounds good!"

"Well, more money always sounds good," Kim commented.

"I see you girls changed your mind already," Harrison joked. Emma lets a small smile slip. She wouldn't admit it, but she was kind of glad that he wasn't bringing up what happened the last time they met. He had plenty of opportunities to bring it up. This proving even more that he was capable of keeping it a secret like he said he would. She thought even more now about learning to forget the past. She didn't feel as angry though towards him as she did towards Denman since he eventually dropped out of the project and left them alone. He even kept their secret safe for so long. But she was also so scared of them. They caused her biggest fear to come true. They caused them so much trouble.

But maybe Rikki was right. Maybe they should learn to forgive and forget. At least to forgive him, not Denman. After all, he quit the search, she didn't until they had no other choice but to trick her. Maybe, she should try to forgive him. Feeling a little conflicted, she shook her head of that thought and returned to the screen.

Wilfred: "And Dr. Bennett himself is on the judging panel! Good luck." The contestants began to grab the fliers off the pool table. The four of them give each other a knowing look, then Rikki stands up and grabs a flier for them.

Rikki: looks over to Zane. "So your dad's judging and sponsoring. Wonder who's going to win?"

"That's so unfair! You were going to let him win?" Kim whined, looking over at the doctor. "It doesn't work like that. Originally, he's not supposed to be in the contest since I was there," Harrison told them. "It was a lose-lose situation either way," Zane muttered quietly.

Zane: leans over, looking at her. Miriam sits behind him, listening in. "If you're implying that you're an automatic loser, I'll second that." Rikki remains quiet and gives them a look, then walks back to her table in defeat. They laugh quietly at her, watching her walk away.

"To be fair, Rikki, you did start it," Terry told her, noticing the annoyed look Rikki was giving him.

Zane smirked, knowing he won that battle. Although he did feel bad for making her angry.

Rikki: sits down at the booth, then talks to them. "Why does Zane's dad get to judge?"

"Because he put some money into it. And it wouldn't be fair to him if he didn't get to be involved a bit more," Neil pointed out.

Emma: "Probably because he's putting in all the money."

Rikki: "But –."

Cleo: "Maybe because he's a genuine hero too."

"You are?" Denman asked, a little surprised at that. "I suppose," Harrison sighed, not really proud of it.

Zane rolls his eyes, annoyed that he gets all the glory, meanwhile, he gets all the complaints.

Cleo: points to Wilfred's wall behind the counter, where a windsurfer lays on top of a shelf. They all turn to look at it. "Look."

Emma: "That's the windsurfer Harrison Bennett rode to Mako Island. All the way around and back in record time, right Zane?" Emma looks over at Zane, who was grabbing a flier from the pool table.

"Nice board," Will complimented.

"I thought you guys said that there were sharks there," Annette commented. "Back then, there wasn't. But it's a shark breeding ground now. They took over," Harrison said.

"Mako Island? You went all the way there and back?! That's impossible!" Ash shook his head. "At this point, nothing is impossible anymore," Will said. "Nothing is impossible if you just believe in it. Right, Bella?" Mrs. Chatham said, looking over at the girl in question, winking. "Uh, r – right," Bella stuttered, looking away. Rikki raises an eyebrow, wondering what she meant by that.

Zane: looks at her, holding the flier. "Yeah, whatever. Old news."

Emma: to them. "The record's stood for twenty years."

Zane: plops the paper back down onto the pool table. "Yeah, my dad, big hero, blah, blah, blah, blah." He walks back to his table, irritated. He stops and turns though when Rikki speaks up.

Harrison's smile falters, surprised by his son's little outburst.

"You don't sound that proud," Don mentioned, crossing his arms. "What's there to be proud of," Zane muttered, a little bummed out by all of this. He knew he and his father were getting on better terms now, especially since now that they were both trying, but it still hurt to hear the past. Including the past actions of his father. It almost felt like he was still the same person.

Rikki: "I had no idea your dad was a hero! You must have been a tremendous disappointment to him." Zane remains quiet and sits back down as Emma smirks upon hearing her remark.

"Rikki! That's enough," Terry shouted. "Sorry, Zane," Rikki apologized, grimacing at her own words. She felt bad for saying that to him. She never knew that, back then, that's exactly how he thought his father felt about him. She regretted saying that to him, knowing it must've hurt hearing it again. "It's alright," Zane said quickly looking down.

"He's not. He's my son, he could never disappoint me. Although his past actions did, I could say the same about mine." Harrison stated. Zane chuckled silently to himself. Yeah, right.

"Don't think I didn't see that smirk, Emma," Lisa warned.

Emma: "So, if we're working together we're going to need to research."

Cleo: grabs some movies from her bag and holds them up for the others to see. "Done! I've rented all the movies we need."

"So, you already knew the theme of it?" Charlotte asked. "I may have asked Wilfred several times about it before," Cleo answered. "Several times? You practically begged his ears off," Rikki scoffed.

Emma: shakes her head as she and Rikki look down at it. "Cleo, those movies aren't right."

Cleo: "You want research, these are classics! Tracy and Hepburn, Bogart and Bacall –."

"Those are all romance movies though. Not heroic," Elliot pointed out. "How did you expect to win? With the power of love?" Kim mocked her, fluttering her eyes upwards like she was acting in love. Cleo rolled her eyes in annoyance. She might be getting along better with Kim, but there were still moments where she couldn't stand her.

Rikki: "We're never going to win the prize money doing a romance!"

Emma: "It's not about the money, it's about the art."

"No, I'm pretty sure it's about the money," Lewis told her.

"If it weren't, then there'd be no money," Harrison chuckled.

"Are you kidding? If there were no money, then there'd be no contestants. What would be the point of competing if there's no prize?" Ash said. Will sighed, thinking about Sophie. He knew that she would have plenty of problems with Emma's reasoning on this if she ever heard what Emma said.

Emma: points at her movie picks. "What about these?"

Rikki: they all look at them. "At least Cleo's choices had stories. I will die if I have to watch a North Korean family eat breakfast for an hour in real-time." Cleo nods in agreement.

"Yeah, I kinda agree with that one," Bella raised her hand, along with several others.

"Please tell me you actually didn't watch it," Kim sighed. "No. Thank goodness," Rikki said, sounding exhausted just from having to think about it.

Emma: "Can't you read subtitles, Rikki? These are real films, with poetry and mood."

Rikki: holds up a movie, blocking her view of Emma. "'Jaws' doesn't need subtitles."

"Thank you! That's better than any of the other choices," Ash said in exasperation. "Not much of a hero theme though," Emma said.

Rikki: drops the movie back down and looks back at Emma, who shakes her head. "A shark is a shark. In any language."

Cleo: "So who goes first? We can't watch them all tonight."

"Why not just eliminate some?" Charlotte asked, not seeing the point in watching them all. "We needed to do our research," Cleo explained.

Emma: "Let's just be civilized about this." Looks at them, then gives them a small smile. "Best of three, scissors, paper, rock." They hold their hands out, each doing the motion of the game, before landing on their choice of hand gesture. Cleo picks scissors, Emma picks rock, and Rikki picks paper. Unfortunately landing them in a tie on the first round.

"Civil? That's what you call civil?" Sam chuckled. "Well, we did all agree on it right then," Emma shrugged. "So, it did work."

"So, who won?" Max asked. "Oh, you'll see. And believe me when I say it was the most boring thing in the world. No offense, Mrs. Gilbert," Rikki mentioned quickly, hoping she didn't upset her. "None taken. I didn't really enjoy it either," Lisa said, giving her a small smile.

[Later that day at the docks, Harrison Bennett walked around on his boat, talking on the phone with his assistant. Zane walks up and climbs into the boat, trying to get his father's attention.]

Harrison: "So uh, reschedule Mrs. Bates for 6:00, and we'll squeeze in Mrs. Henman's tummy tuck at 2:00. Ok, Pauline?"

Zane: "Hey dad, I got you something." He holds up a DVD.

"Even on day-offs, it's always work," Harrison sighed, the other parents nodding along in agreement.

"What did you get him?" Elliot asked. "It was some old pictures of him," Zane replied.

Emma tensed up, upon seeing him on the screen for the first time. She was in the same room with him though, so she couldn't understand why she felt nervous on seeing him there. Maybe it was because she knew this was the past and what the past caused them? Maybe because she knew that he was different than the way he acted back then. Or, maybe it's because she was still afraid of the past. Afraid that it might happen again.

Harrison: holds a hand up to stop him, ignoring his comment. "No, Mrs. Goldstein is just a Botox treatment. In and out." Zane walks past him and inside the boat. He puts the DVD into the player and turns the TV on. Harrison turns and sees himself onscreen. "Hey, that's me. I've got to go, Pauline." He hangs the phone up and walks inside.

Zane sighed and shook his head. Of course that's what caught his attention. He only paid attention to himself back then.

"I think he wanted to show you something Harrison," Bev said, raising an eyebrow.

Harrison's smile falters, remembering this day. He remembers the shame he caused Zane to feel; wishing he could take it all back and start over.

Zane: the TV shows a photo of Harrison in a newspaper. He turns to his dad, who sits down on the couch. "I tracked down some old photos and articles. It wasn't easy getting copies of all these." It shows a photo of Harrison on his windsurfer.

"Wow, you look just like him from when he was younger, Zane," Cleo admitted. "Just what every child wants to hear," Zane muttered.

Harrison: "You know to break that record I dodged stingrays, sharks, and total exhaustion. I broke it by thirty-five minutes."

"Thirty-five minutes?! Around Mako? That's fast," Sam said in shock. "It wasn't easy. Mako has always been a rough place to be around. But I think I understand why, now," Harrison remarked, glancing over at the girls. He kind of hoped that they could forgive him for his past mistakes. Zane too. He knew it was going to be hard to get back on their good side. With Rikki being friends with his son, she seemed to be getting along better with him than he thought. Cleo as well. Emma, however, was going to be a struggle, he could tell. He knew she had trust issues. And it was a terrifying situation for them to live in. But their powers were gone now, so what could be the problem? It's not like it could happen again.

Rikki glanced over at Zane, knowing that he went through the same thing. The only difference was that he failed.

Lewis glances down for a second, knowing that even though Zane attempted to break the record, there were some dangerous problems on the way. So why didn't he help more? Why did he make Zane look like a fool? He didn't deserve it. Yet, he did it anyways.

Zane: "I got the newspaper articles from the library archives. Took me hours."

Harrison: ignoring him. "Can't beat natural grace. This is great." Keeps watching the pictures of him change. "You know, my record will still be standing in another twenty years."

He was trying to get his dad's attention, Emma realized, feeling bad for the Bennett boy. But all he did was woo over his own photos. He only cared for himself. Emma pouted upon thinking that. Knowing, that back then, he was so selfish. Never caring for others around him. He proved that when he teamed up with Denman. That's what increased her fears. That he would revert back to his old ways and try to work with her again.

Zane: smirks. "Somebody might break it. They –."

"Is that a challenge?" Max asked. "It might've been," Zane replied.

Harrison: "No way. Mako Island is a shark breeding ground these days. Nobody will ever break my record." Smirks upon thinking that. "I'd kiss the feet of any man who could pull off what I did then, and keep all of their limbs intact." Zane looks away, thinking about it.

"Bummer. It would've been great if somebody could," Kim sighed. To beat your selfish, egotistical behind!

"That's all it would've took?" Denman whispered to herself. It would've been easy for her to get him to come back on the mission then.

Harrison: never even looks at Zane the entire time. "You know, I should get this on a loop for my waiting room." Zane glances at it.

"Why would you want to? Who would watch it?" Bella asked. "Why not? And, for the record, the past me would," Harrison admitted sheepishly. Zane shook his head after hearing the answer and chuckled softly to himself. Yeah, he would have.

[Back at the café, Rikki walks up to Lewis, who is sitting at a table, and leans her arm against his shoulder. She watches him write down some notes, then crumbles the piece of paper up.]

Rikki: "What are you doing this year, Lewis?"

Lewis: looks up at her slowly. "I have no idea." He looks around then back at his notes. Rikki pats him on the shoulder, grinning, then walks over to where Cleo and Emma are at their usual booth. Cleo and Emma sit across from each other, discussing ideas when they see Rikki come up to them.

"Couldn't top last year's video, could you?" Annette asked with a small smile. "Oh, I believe I did. Might not have been as adorable, but it sure was funny," Lewis quietly admitted. He felt bad for picking on Zane about it, but it did make a good short film.

Emma: to Rikki. "We've only got a few days, so I think we should go with the most developed idea. Which is mine." She nods.

Cleo: "You have an idea already?"

"When doesn't she?" Elliot joked. His parents chuckle to themselves, knowing that he was right. She is the organized one.

"What was your idea?" Charlotte asked. "It was about a hero who has always been in my life: my mom," Emma smiled, looking over at her mother, who returned the smile as well.

Rikki: glances between the two. "Cleo, this is Emma we're talking about."

"Exactly," Lewis snapped his fingers.

"Is it wrong to always have a plan?" Emma asked, raising an eyebrow. "It is for parties," Ash muttered, remembering the disastrous birthday party that she had tried to plan perfectly for Neil, but ended up as a total failure.

Emma: "I think the film should be called 'My Mother.'" She holds her hands up, spreading them out in effect.

"Sounds boring," Kim said, earning a warning glare from her own mom. She rolls her eyes when she wasn't looking.

"You did a film on your mother?" Will asked. "That's sweet," Sam commented. "Yeah, but why didn't you involve them in any of the planning?" Neil asked curiously. "They helped," Emma answered.

Rikki: points at her, eyes-widening with fake shock. "Sounds riveting, a thriller."

Zane snorts, trying to keep from laughing out loud. Harrison gives him a look as if saying 'you know better than that.'

Emma: gives her a slight glare. "Heroes aren't always pumped-up super freaks who wear Lycra and fly through the air, Rikki." Rikki rolls her eyes and looks away. Cleo sits up straight. "And what's more, real heroes like my mom aren't always seen on the screen."

"She does have a good point," Max said. All the moms in the room nod in agreement. Rikki can't help but wonder if her mom would've agreed with them or not if she were here.

Lisa smiles, glad that her daughter understood that heroes aren't just superhumans, but also the people surrounding them. Especially your family members.

Rikki: looks back at her. "And there's a reason for that." Emma tilts her head.

"There's nothing wrong with a mom being a hero to their child," Emma told her. "Yes, but a whole three-minute video of a documentary on them would be," Rikki replied.

Cleo: "Don't you think a whole three minutes on your mom might be a little –."

Emma: looks over at Cleo. "What?"

Rikki: "Weak?"

"Yes," Kim stated, earning a whack to her arm. "Kim! Be nice," Bev scolded. "Whatever," Kim sighed.

Cleo: "No."

Rikki: looks up, thinking of other words. "Self-indulgent."

"Most definitely," Ash said.

Cleo: shakes her head, looking up as well. "No."

Rikki: leans forward dramatically, then looks at Cleo. "Boring!"

Cleo: "No."

"Oh, trust us, it was," Rikki whined. "No offense Mrs. Gilbert." "None taken, it did bore me a little as well. Sorry, Emma," Lisa winced. "It's alright, mom."

Emma: "Trust me, it'll be gold. I've already got an entry form. I'm ready to go." She smiles at them, and Cleo bites back a response. Rikki looks at her, thinking it over.

"No, it won't," Lewis said. "As they said, it was boring to watch." "Are you kidding? It was boring to film?" Rikki said with a disgusted look. Emma sighs, shaking her head.

Rikki: taps the table. "Time for juice. They nod and she stands up and walks over to the counter, where Wilfred comes up to her and smiles.

Wilfred: "What will it be, Rikki?"

"Ah, he knows your name. Good businessman for that," Mrs. Chatham smiled. "Either that or she's just been going there too much," Zane chuckled. "I'm pretty sure he knows everyone's name that goes there," Rikki said.

Rikki: smiles, then glances over at her booth. "Uh, can I please get three juices of the day and," she leans forward slightly and lowers her voice. "can you slip me another entry form?" Wilfred smirks and glances around, making sure no one was looking, then slides it across the counter towards her. Rikki picks it up and hides it unnoticed, glancing back at their booth. "Thanks."

Emma gasped in shock. "You took another entry form?! What happened to us working on ours?" "Oh please. You really thought a short documentary was going to win us the prize?" Rikki scoffed. "But we agreed to go with my idea!" Emma whined, pointing to the screen. "We agreed? We only went with it because you beat us in a scissors, paper, rock game. You know, 'civilized?'" Rikki said, using air quotes on the last word. Emma narrows her eyes and points a finger at Rikki accusingly. Before she could open her mouth though, Lisa beats her to it.

"She's right, Em, and you know it. Although they agreed to play the game for it, they still had to listen to what you wanted to do. And as Rikki said, it wouldn't have won you anything. You should've gone with something that you know would've grabbed people's attention," Lisa said, giving her a look. Emma frowns, a little surprised that her mom was on Rikki's side with this. She just wanted to please her, to make her happy. But she guesses she was wrong. Her mother never did like the attention.

"And besides, a little fame wouldn't make me happy. My kids are the ones that make me happy," Lisa smiled. Emma smiled back and gets up to give her a quick hug. "Love you mom," Emma whispered. "Love you too, darling," Lisa whispered back and returns the hug before Emma goes back to her seat.

"What about me? Don't I make you happy?" Neil asked. "Get me another dolphin statue and we'll see," Lisa winked, reminding him about the last one that broke, and Neil chuckled. "And Rikki, next time just tell them about it. Instead of hiding it from them. It could've been a backup plan," Terry suggested. "Unfortunately, it couldn't," Rikki sighed.

"But we didn't see your film get played?" Cleo frowned in confusion. "That's because it was unusable. Well, most of it," Lewis told them. "What do you mean?" Bella asked. "Oh, you'll see. Her reaction when she realized it was hilarious," Lewis chuckled.

[At Emma's house, Lewis adjusts the lighting, having it set on Lisa and Emma. They're both sitting at the counter, getting ready for the interview. Emma writes some notes down on a notepad. Rikki films the two with a video camera sitting on a stand, while Cleo writes some notes down as well.]

Emma: looks up from her notepad and looks at her mom. "And um, so, what drives you?"

Lisa: "Drives me?"

"The car," Will joked. Rikki looks over at him and gives him a weird look. "Don't do that again."

Lisa: "I'm not really sure what you mean." Rikki zooms the camera in on Mrs. Gilbert, who notices and straightens up.

Emma: gestures. "What are the primary forces that propel you through life?" Lewis looks zoned out, completely bored, almost as if he were about to fall asleep, while Cleo looks at the camera.

Lisa: "Well, really, I guess, it's wanting the best for my children, you and Elliot." Emma quickly looks over to them and points at her mom to make sure they were getting the footage. "I don't really think that much about myself."

"As it should be," Bev nodded, the other parents agreeing with her. That's surprising coming from you. Since you upped and left us, Kim thought angrily.

Glad I wasn't involved in that, Elliot thought, feeling relieved.

Rikki: "Um, Em, do you want me to keep recording this? Like, is this an important bit, or –."

Emma: "It's all-important, Rikki." Turns to her mom with a thought. "Unless you'd like a break."

Lisa: looks exhausted and uncomfortable. "Oh can I? Thank you." She gets up and leaves. Emma waves to the camera as Rikki turns it off.

"You didn't want to do it, did you?" Emma said a little sadly. "Not really dear. I'm sorry. I just felt like that was something that should be talked about privately. Not with others or a camera around," Lisa said, giving her a small smile. Emma returns it.

Rikki: "Um, I'll tell you what, while you're sorting out your stuff, I'll go do some camera tests, some different lights, and different backgrounds." She closes the video camera and takes it off the stand, putting the strap around her hand.

Emma: nods. "That's a good idea, yeah."

"It seemed fine to me," Ash shrugged. "That's because it was an excuse. I lied. I just wanted to sneak off to film my own thing," Rikki explained. "I can't believe I fell for that," Emma sighed, a little annoyed at herself.

Rikki: "Uh, Lewis?"

Lewis: snaps out of his thoughts and looks at her. "Hm? Thank you."

"Wow, you weren't kidding. You looked bored already, Lewis," Charlotte laughed quietly, turning to him. Annette pats her on the shoulder, letting her know to hush. "That's because it didn't show the hours upon hours of unbelievably boring filming before this scene," Lewis complained.

[At the pier close to Emma's house, Rikki and Lewis walk down it to where his boat is docked. Rikki carries a duffle bag in her hand while listening to Lewis, who was trying to get some answers from her.]

Lewis: "I still don't understand why you need me."

"You knew about it?" Cleo asked in surprise. "Yep."

"So, you were working on two short films?" Sam assumed. "Actually three. Right, Zane?" Lewis said, holding up three fingers. "Right," Zane muttered, not sparing him a look his way.

Rikki: "Simple." They stop at his boat and Rikki drops the bag. She bends down and opens it, revealing an underwater camera. "This."

Lewis: looks at it, then her. "You want to shoot underwater."

"That's actually not a bad idea," Ash thought out loud. "Yeah, until you have to explain where you got the footage from," Rikki mumbled to herself.

Rikki: "Yup. Northside of Mako Island." Puts a hand on her hip.

Lewis: narrows his eyes. "Rikki, have you any idea how many sharks are out there?"

Rikki: "That's the idea! Sharks are a winning formula on film."

"Don't tell me you swam with sharks," Terry shuts his eyes and rubs his forehead. "Ok … I won't," Rikki said, wincing. "Isn't that a little dangerous?" Sam asked. "A lot more than a little," Denman corrected, even though she swam with them before.

"Yeah, that's the fun in it. Besides, it wouldn't be our first time," Rikki replied.

"You must've really loved 'Jaws' then since you brought it up earlier," Will said. "She could probably recite it to you, word for word," Terry sighed, shaking his head.

Zane winces, hoping that it won't show how terrified he was of the sharks to everyone. Even though most of them has already seen the film. But he does make a mental note to get the movie of 'Jaws' on a DVD for her.

Charlotte looks at her as if she were insane. She would much rather hang out with the dolphins than she would sharks!

Lewis: "You want to film them."

Rikki: "'Heroes of the Deep.' That's my idea." Lewis gives her a look.

"That's a pretty good name, but a bad idea," Bella commented. "Why thank you," Rikki beamed, ignoring the last part of that sentence.

"So, you wanted an idea of your own," Emma assumed bitterly. "No, I just wanted to win the prize money. Your video wouldn't have cut it," Rikki explained.

"I think dolphins would be more of the heroes than sharks were," Cleo shrugged, with Charlotte silently agreeing to that statement; somewhat.

Rikki: waves at herself. "Think about it. I can get footage that no one else can get. It'll be great!"

"And how would you explain to them how you got it?" Harrison asked. "That was the problem," Rikki sighed, looking bummed out.

Rikki: shakes her head. "Come on, face it, we're never going to win the competition with Emma's idea." Lewis nods in understanding. "Just think of it as a backup plan."

"That's not true!" Emma said, defending her idea. "No, no, she's right," Lewis said. Emma slouches back down in defeat.

Lewis: shakes his head. "No."

Rikki: "No?"

Lewis: "No!" He turns and leaves, leaving her by herself.

Rikki: looks at the water, shocked, repeating his words. "No?"

"And today, we learn the meaning of the word, 'No,'" Kim said, smiling teasingly. Cleo chuckles at her sister's remark, along with several others in the crowd next to her. Even Rikki cracks a smile at the comment. "Yeah, I probably deserved that."

[Near Mako Island, Rikki swims by the reefs with the underwater camera facing forward. She stops to film the underwater life: the schools of fish of all different kinds, the sharks swimming above her, getting enough footage to show the white of their belly. She smiles as she watches all her surroundings.]

"That, is terrifying," Charlotte shuttered, knowing that she would never get that close to a shark.

"You were that close to a shark?!" Terry shouted. "Well, I needed to get good footage somehow. He left me alone," Rikki said, defending herself. Emma shook her head, not surprised that she went anyways. But she also hated to admit it, that Rikki did have better footage than her. Or, at least it was a bit more interesting.

[Wilfred looks up as he hears the beads of the curtained door, and sees Zane hurrying up to him.]

Zane: "I need an entry form for the competition. I've just had the best idea for a film."

"Oof well I can tell this is going to get awkward," Lewis winced. "How so?" Elliot asked. "Because family members of the judges aren't allowed in the competition," Cleo said, feeling a little bad for Zane. Harrison glances over at him. Did he not know this?

Wilfred: shakes his head and starts walking back to the counter. "Sorry Zane, but you're not eligible."

Zane: furrows his brows. "What?"

Wilfred: "Your father's on the judging panel. It'd be a conflict of interest!"

"He does have a point," Sam said. "It still sucked," Zane muttered.

Zane: on the other side of the counter. "You can't possibly think it would help me that he's on the panel."

Harrison flinched, knowing that Zane was right. Or at least he was right about his past self. He really wouldn't have helped him on that. His past self knew that he would've needed to do the challenge on his own.

Wilfred: leans over the counter. "Look, I'm sorry, but rules are rules." Zane glares, then looks around, particularly up at the top shelf several times where his father's windsurfer laid. He marches off towards the exit, purposefully shoving a young boy who was sat down at a table, causing him to spill his drink all over himself. The boy yells in shock, as the girl sitting next to him tries to dry him off. Wilfred shakes his head in disappointment and walks away.

"Zane!" Harrison yelled, before lowering his voice to him. "Now I know you were mad, especially at me, but you shouldn't take it out on other people." "I know, I know. I let my anger get the best of me," Zane sighed, rolling his eyes, having heard this speech a million times. "But it's in the past. It's not like I can change that." "Unfortunately, you're right," Harrison said, looking down as a flash of the capturing runs through his mind.

[While on break from filming, Lewis goes fishing out by the small dock where his boat lies, when Zane walks up behind him.]

Zane: "Hey, Lewis."

Lewis: turns to look at him then turns back to the water, sounding annoyed. "Hey, what."

"Well, that's a good first greeting," Bev said. "Yeah, we didn't get along back then," Zane sighed. "Back then? We still don't," Lewis scoffed.

Zane: stops behind him, to the side. "I know we haven't always seen things eye to eye in the past –."

"That's an understatement," Lewis said, shaking his head.

Lewis: "Whatever you want, the answer is no."

"Smart answer," Emma remarked. "That's what you think," Zane muttered.

Zane: smirks wickedly and begins pacing slowly back and forth. "Let me break it down for you. I take my dad's original windsurfer, I reenact his trip around Mako Island, I break his record, and you film the whole thing."

"So you stole the café's property?" Bella assumed. "It was my dad's in the first place," Zane defended himself. "It was still given to the café, which means it rightfully belonged to Wilfred instead," Will told him. Zane scowled, not liking that answer. It's not like he wasn't going to return it. He just wanted to prove his dad wrong for once and make him proud! Was that wrong to do so?

More importantly, why should you copy your father's actions? Be your own person instead, Max thought, glancing at the boy.

Lewis: nods and turns to him. "A reenactment? So it's not even original."

"That's what I meant when I said 'reenact,'" Zane told him.

Zane: holds his head up. "It's a tribute." Lewis gestures as if saying 'so-so' and Zane continues. "Like Hillary's son climbing Everest." Lewis ignores him, messing with his reel. Zane walks closer. "You'll be capturing a moment in history. Especially if I beat his record."

"Which you still didn't, but at least I did get to make a good film out of it," Lewis grinned, Zane looks at him then back to the screen, trying to hide a small smile that was trying to form. He did have to admit, it was a little ironic.

Lewis: looks back at him. "Me doing you a favor? One problem, I don't like you."

"Well, that was rude," Lisa commented. "It was honest," Zane answered, before lowering his voice. "A lot of people didn't. Still don't." And I hope I can change that one day.

Zane: smile falters and looks to the ground when an idea pops up in his head. "If you finish the film, my camera is yours." Holds up a video camera.

Lewis: gasps and smiles, chuckling as he looks back to his fishing pole. "Zane, Zane, my very, very close friend. Now we're talking." They both grin as Lewis reels his line back in.

"I beg your pardon, but that cost money Zane," Harrison said, giving his son an annoyed look. Sure, he knew he would rub off in a bad way to his son and others in this episode, but he also knew Zane just couldn't keep throwing away money. "I needed the help. I had to offer up something," Zane shrugged.

"Speaking of help, why didn't you ask Nate?" Lewis squinted in confusion. "Because he's a complete idiot. Do you really think I would trust him with one simple job?" Zane said, raising an eyebrow. Lewis shrugged slightly, agreeing with him.

"What about Miriam then?" Cleo asked. Zane looks at her shocked, staying quiet for a moment before answering. "Have you ever seen Miriam in a boat?" "Fair point," Cleo replied, leaning back in her seat. "The day she gets in one is the day we become friends with her. All in all, it will be impossible," Rikki said in a deadpanned tone.

"You teamed up with Zane too? So, what was the point of me filming my video if all of you were going to go behind my back?" Emma asked, feeling almost insulted. "I'm not sure. You're the one who wanted to keep going with it," Lewis smirked. Emma hits him on the arm, causing Cleo to laugh. "I didn't go behind your back," Cleo told her. "Thank you. At least someone had my back," Emma smiled. Only because I didn't know what they were up to, Cleo thought.

[That afternoon, Cleo and Rikki continue working with Emma and Mrs. Gilbert on 'their' short film. Cleo turns the lights on them, and Rikki begins recording.]

Emma: "Lights, camera, action." Looks at the camera, sitting next to her mom from where they were before. "So, mom, I'd like to talk about your time as a junior lifesaver."

"You were a junior lifesaver?" Bella asked intrigued.

"Did you ever save anyone mom?" Elliot asked curiously. "Uh, it might come up later," Lisa gulped, glancing nervously at Harrison, who returned the look. Did she tell someone? Harrison thought. "Sounds like she doesn't want to talk about it. Like someone else I know," Max mentioned quietly, looking over at Mrs. Chatham. "Not all heroes want to be recognized," Mrs. Chatham replied.

Lisa: looks at her in surprise. "Really?"

Emma: nods. "Yes, I hear you were very good." Smiles at the camera.

"Who said that?" Lisa asked. "I did," Neil commented, smiling at his wife. "I wasn't that great," Lisa scoffed. "Are you kidding? You swam through the training pools like a torpedo. Emma for sure got her love of swimming from you," Neil chuckled as Emma smiled at the interaction.

Lisa: laughs nervously. "Well, the funny thing is, I completed the course, but I never actually collected my certificate." Cleo dazes out, the same look that Lewis had from before while Rikki rubs her forehead, looking bored out of her mind.

"Really? Why?" Denman asked. "I just never did," Lisa shrugged, blushing a little from the attention she was getting.

Lewis laughs, noticing Cleo's look. "I guess we both had the same thought process about it."

Emma: "Really? It's priceless." Looks back over at the camera, frowning. "It's a pity Lewis is missing this."

Rikki: slightly winces, trying to hide it. "Mm, pity."

"It wasn't that bad, Rikki," Emma whined, crossing her arms. "No, it was," Cleo said, looking over at her friend, who pouts in response.

"Lucky you, Lewis," Rikki sarcastically said.

"I was a bit busy," Lewis chuckled.

[That night, Zane sneaks quietly through the beaded curtains of the door in the Juicenet Café. He pauses in the doorway as the lights turn on and looks over at the windsurfer laying on top of the shelf. Quickly, he makes his way around the counter. A few minutes later, Zane sneaks out the door, with the windsurfer in his hands.]

"So I was right, you did steal it," Bella said. "I gave it back afterwards," Zane sighed, rolling his eyes.

Harrison sighs, wishing he would've just listened to what his son wanted to say back then, instead of bragging about his record. Maybe then he wouldn't have stolen it.

[The next morning, Lewis and Zane meet up on a quiet side of the beach, away from the crowds. Lewis is kneeled next to the windsurfer, not too far from his boat, as he straps a camera down onto the board. Zane stands next to him, prepared for his journey as he wears his lifejacket and swimsuits.]

Lewis: "Alright. Now, I've made some slight modifications." Zane peers down at the camera. "This waterproof minicam is gonna send images directly back to me in the boat. I'll get the wide shot." Holds his hands up, side by side as if he were trying to frame something, then stands up.

"I can't believe you went through with this," Cleo said, shaking her head. "It was a good deal," Lewis shrugged. "But you know he stole the windsurfer though," Bella pointed out. "He did give it back," Lewis said, tilting his head. Zane looks at him, a little surprised that he was defending him. Somewhat. But it was still something.

Zane: "Good. I don't want the filming to slow me down."

Lewis: nods and hands him a microphone earpiece. "Yup. Now put this on, so we can stay in contact in case –." Lewis trails off, hesitating as he nervously thinks about the rest of his sentence.

Zane: looks at him suspiciously. "In case what?"

Lewis: shrugs awkwardly and places his hands on his hips. "Oh, just in case anything goes wrong."

"Aw, Lewis, it sounds like you care," Zane said teasingly in a sweet voice. Lewis slaps him on the arm, before shaking his head and smirking. "Well of course. How else was I going to get that camera? Ow!" He rubs the back of his head, turning around to see Rikki put her arm back down from where she hit him.

Harrison gulped, hoping nothing did actually go wrong. He remembered that day that Zane complained about the sharks, but there wasn't any, was there? There weren't any on the tapes that Lewis showed them.

Zane: "Nothing's going to go wrong. I'm pumped." He puts the earpiece on and moves his shoulders around. Lewis nods slowly, hoping that nothing doesn't go wrong. "Let's do it." Lewis starts two timers simultaneously as Zane launches off, surfing through the water. Zane hangs on to the windsurfer, leaning lightly to guide the board through the water. He continues moving forward. "Come on Lewis! Move it!" Lewis drops the timers, letting them hang from his neck as he runs for his boat. Closing the box on top of the boat he begins pushing it into the water and hops in once it begins sailing further into the water.

Harrison smiles, impressed that Zane was able to pick it up so quickly, especially since he's never taught him how to do it before. He was glad that he was able to do it easier than him, especially since his first time before the … incident.

"You picked it up rather quickly," Annette commented, almost like she was reading Harrison's mind. "Guess it runs in the bloodline," Zane joked.

[At Emma's house, they return to recording for the short film. Emma and her mom sit on the stools; this time, however, they were in the kitchen instead of behind the counter. Rikki stood behind the camera, next to the counter, waiting for her orders. Emma looks at Rikki, wondering where the other girl was.]

Emma: "Have you seen Cleo?"

Rikki: "Uh, no. I think she's just running a bit late." Jabs her thumb behind her.

"Where were you by the way?" Emma asked. "I got held back at work," Cleo explained.

Emma: nods. "Ok." Begins rolling her pointer fingers in a circle, with a pen in her hand, at the camera. "Roll camera." Rikki turns it on and gives her a thumbs up. Emma straightens up and smiles. "Thank you."

"That must've really annoyed you," Terry chuckled. "Taking orders from her? Oh, you have no idea," Rikki said, sounding exhausted.

Emma: leans closer to her mom, glancing occasionally at the camera. "I was thinking, uh, maybe we could talk about, what type of clothes you wore in the '70s? Or what type of food you ate?" Rikki resists the urge to roll her eyes. Lisa looks uncomfortable at hearing the questions.

"What do clothes and food have to do with heroes?" Kim asked, frowning. "It doesn't," Will answered. "Yeah, hearing that now, it doesn't have anything to do with the topic. And it sounds weird," Emma winced, now realizing her actions caused her mom to feel uncomfortable. "They were a bit odd," Lisa chuckled.

Rikki: "Um – Here's a thought." They both look at her, forgetting about the questions. "Maybe I should save tape while you figure out exactly what you want to talk about –." Points at them.

Emma: sighs in relief and nods in agreement with Lisa. "Good thinking."

"Thanks for the save, Rikki," Lisa thanked her.

"You were just doing it to 'run more tests' huh?" Emma asked, raising an eyebrow. "Bingo," Rikki grinned.

Rikki: "And while you do that, I could do a few more tests."

Emma: "That's a really good idea, Rikki."

Rikki: "Yeah." Turns the light off that was shining on them.

Emma: talks quietly to her. "Okay, so um – were you in the brownies?"

Lisa: "I was in the GFS. Which was called the Girls Friendly Society." Rikki takes the camera off the trifold and puts the strap around her hand and walks away.

"You believed her so easily," Kim laughed. "That's because she was in the zone," Rikki smirked as Emma rolls her eyes playfully. "What she means is that I was too distracted."

[Zane flies through the surface of the water, still hanging on to the windsurfer, with Lewis not too far behind him keeping up with the time.]

Zane: "How am I doing with the time?"

Lewis: picks up the radio and presses the button to speak and smiles. "I hate to say it, but if you keep this speed up you'll probably beat your dad's record!"

"That's great!" Will said. "Keep up the good work," Don said, giving him a thumbs up. "Sounds like you're rooting for him now," Cleo smiled. "It was exciting," Lewis admitted.

"Too bad all good things must come to an end," Zane mumbled.

Zane: "Woo-hoo!" Moves around a little on the board.

"Was that a little dance?" Rikki said while laughing. "Might have been a little victory dance," Zane said, blushing a little.

"Don't celebrate too early," Sam warned. "Too late," he replied.

[The engine to the boat suddenly sputters, dying out, causing the boat to slow down to a complete stop. Lewis looks at it, then back to Zane, who was continuing towards Mako. He turns back to the engine and sighs.]

Lewis: "Great." He flips the starter and pulls the cord, but the engine won't start back up. He tries again, with the same results. Panicking, he quickly stands up and starts using the pump. "Come on come on." He tries pulling the cord again several more times, but nothing happens.

"Why does your boat always break down at the worst times?" Cleo asked, shaking her head. "Beats me," Lewis shrugged. "Sounds like you need a new boat," Max said. "Yeah, and where could I get the money to afford that," Lewis said, leaning his head back. He could barely afford a new computer, how was he going to pay for a boat?

Lewis: giving up, he turns back around to look for Zane, and holds the radio back up. "Zane, are you ok? I think I've flooded the engine." He winces after saying that.

"Here's a tip. Next time don't panic. It only makes things worse," Rikki mentioned. "Don't help," Lewis pouted.
