Chapter 33: Are You Ready?

In the buffet room, everyone gathered around the tables to fill up their plates and get their drinks. Some were by themselves, enjoying the peace and quiet for a bit and trying to understand what they just saw, or in Denman's case, gawking at the elderly woman who was grabbing a drink with Bella.

Cleo figured the two weren't that hungry at the moment as she seen them slowly making their way back to the door, talking with one another. The brunette herself was gathering some sandwich slices herself when her sister popped up next to her. She kept her head down, grabbing a few cut sandwiches, but Cleo knew she was there for a different reason.

"Heads up, mom wants to talk to you." Cleo looked up to where Kim was nodding her head and sees her mother heading in their direction. "What does she want?" Cleo grumbled.

Out of all the people she wanted to talk to, she was somewhere at the bottom of the list. Even though they used to get along so well, she now found it difficult to talk to her even about the simplest things. It just seemed too awkward; a heavyweight on her shoulders ever since she left.

Kim shrugged. "Good luck," she muttered and swiftly walked away, not wanting to be nowhere near the woman who left them behind, as the woman in question walked up to Cleo.

The mother sighed inwardly; a little bit disappointed that Kim didn't stick around. Bev wished she could talk to her too. "Cleo, uh sorry to bother you. But is it alright if you and I could talk?" she asked while pointing to one of the few corners in the room.

Cleo looked around, hoping that Lewis could come save her from this awkward situation. Unfortunately for her, the blonde was currently stacking Elliot's plate high with cookies and icing as Elliot smiled ecstatically next to him. Cleo sighed and turned back to her, seeing that no rescue was coming her way, and said sure. Setting her plate down on the table, the two walk over to a corner, where Cleo faced her mother, her back towards the wall.

Over her mother's shoulder, Cleo could see in the corner across from them that Rikki was having a private conversation with her dad as well, while Zane tried talking to Emma at another table. Cleo had to hold in a laugh as she watched the two bickering, figuring that he was trying to get some answers from her. Good luck with that Zane, she's a tough nut to crack.

Bev cleared her throat, gaining Cleo's attention back. "What's up?" she asked, slightly apprehensive. Is she planning to tell me that she's going to leave again after all this? Because I've already prepared for that.

Bev took a deep breath and looked at her daughter carefully. "Cleo, I want you to tell me everything about Dr. Denman." Cleo tensed up, trying not to show it as she shrugged her shoulders. "What about her?"

"Well she did take your DNA. She was terribly close to almost experimenting on you girls. And with her discovering your sample, I just know it puts you all in even more danger," Bev said in a worried tone.

Cleo resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her mother's caring tone, thinking she probably didn't mean it but gave her a small smile instead. "Mom, if this is your way of asking if we're okay, then don't worry. We're alright as you saw. That happened such a long time ago. There's no need to worry about it anymore."

"But you see? That's the thing, Cleo. I'm worried because I know there has to be more to the story than that. She wouldn't be here otherwise. She had to have done something else." Cleo had to admit, she was pretty surprised that her mother was able to figure all that out. She was right about it though; Denman wouldn't be here if it were for just that one incident. But that surprise didn't stop the small amount of anger built up right now. And how was she supposed to explain that to her own mother? To her whole family that they were caught? It's not that simple.

Cleo shook her head in denial. "Don't worry about it, mom. What happened is in the past. We already resolved the issue and it won't happen again. We got everything under control now. I promise," she nodded her head in reassurance and was about to walk past her mom when Bev stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "So you mean there was something else that happened. I was right? Oh, please Cleo, what did she do?"

"Look, mom –," Cleo tried to say but was cut off. "That woman admitted that she knew about the secret. I know she had to have done something else in order for her to figure it out. Why else would a scientist know? The way you three have been treating her since we got here? Did she do something horrendous? Did she put you in any danger? Threaten you? Please, Cleo. Just tell me the truth. What else happened?" Bev begged.

Cleo sighed, trying her best not to show any tears in her eyes, as Bev did. She doesn't want to share what happened. She couldn't tell her how she felt, or all the frightening events they had gone through because of that woman. Not right now, she wasn't ready. It wasn't like it used to be. Aside from the secret, they used to be able to tell each other everything. They weren't just mother and daughter, but they were the best of friends.

But all of that shattered the moment that Bev last walked out the door, leaving her with only the little fragments of what was left of her family. Cleo didn't know when she would be ready to finally talk normally with her mother again, but now was not the time. "Listen, mom. Yes, Denman did know the truth, and something serious did happen. But like I said, it's nothing important now; she can't do anything, not anymore. It's all under control. We were able to handle it, with a bit of help," she said as she glanced back at Lewis. She searched for Zane too, but it appears he wasn't in the room anymore, along with Emma.

Cleo looked back at her mom and was surprised to see her looking down at the ground, almost like she was on the brink of tears. Why would she cry? It's not like she's the one who had to help keep her family from falling apart even more. Did, did she notice the way I've been acting?

Unfortunately for her, that was the case. Bev has noticed, the way Cleo has been avoiding touchy topics, the way they seemed to not have gotten along like they've done before so long ago, the way she seems to put walls up every time she comes near. Refusing to even talk to her sometimes.

But it wasn't just her, Kim did it as well. She just couldn't understand why. She was their mother after all!

Bev flinched slightly when she felt a hand touch her shoulder, she looked up to see her daughter giving her a small, sad smile. Cleo had to admit she had to force herself to do this. As mad as she was at her right now, she couldn't bear to watch her own mother cry because of her.

"I'm sorry mom. But I'm just not ready to talk about this right now." Not with you at least. "I promise you, whatever happened, whatever you see on the screen, it's nothing we can't handle and haven't been through before. We are okay." Cleo sighed and let go of her shoulder. "And I'm not saying right now, or later. But, maybe one day, we can talk. Okay?" Like we used to before, Cleo thought.

Bev nodded, wiping away the one tear that escaped. Cleo nodded in return, letting her hands flop down to her side as she looked around again. This time she noticed that her dad and Kim were also watching the scene going on, from two different areas of the room, before her eyes landed back on her plate.

"Well, I better grab my food before it gets cold," Cleo said quickly, making up an excuse to get away from the awkward tension that built up from the silence.

Bev nodded in agreement, watching as Cleo walked past her to finish filling her plate and wondered silently what exactly happened to them. With a brave face on, she marched back to the drink table and decided to ask her 'roommate' tonight.

Cleo arrived back at that table and picked up her plate again, returning to making her lunch. Once again, she has a visitor. "So, how'd it go with you know who?" Kim asked as she slid up next to her, her plate already full.

"It went alright," Cleo nodded, not facing her as she stared down at the chips she was grabbing. "You're a terrible liar," Kim said. Cleo sighed and dropped her shoulders while she looked at her, a pained expression on her face. "It was awful. She kept trying to get information out of me about Dr. Denman. But I don't want to talk about that. It was just too awkward."

"Why's that?" Kim questioned. Cleo shrugged. "I just don't feel comfortable sharing personal stuff with her. Not right now at least. I know she's seeing most of my business on the screen in there, but telling her about it? I just can't. Not when she upped and left without talking to us about it. I would love to have her back and to be able to talk to her normally, but after everything we've been through, without her, it just doesn't feel the same anymore." She takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down from her rant. "If she wants to talk then she'll have to wait till I'm ready."

Kim nodded. "I understand. Mom tried talking to me too, several times. But I don't want to hear her excuses. Like you said, it's too soon. I still care about her and she's our mom, but she just made me so angry when she disappeared. And now all of a sudden, she's back? Everything is just happening too fast."

Cleo glanced down at her, feeling the exact same way. "You know you'll have to talk to her eventually. Both of us."

Kim sighed. "I know, I know. But not now. Let's let it sink in just how much she really hurt us," she said, narrowing her eyes at her mother. After watching Bev leave the beverages, Kim and Cleo make their way over to it, being their next destination.

"You know, speaking of being hurt, why were you afraid of me?" Cleo brought up. Kim paused in her step. Cleo stood in front of her. "What?" Kim squints.

"When you first found out about my secret during the whole diary incident, you mentioned that you were scared and thought we were 'evil mermaids'. You wanted to take us down and expose us. What was so terrifying to you?"

"It was nothing," Kim waved it off. "That's not true. I know you were afraid," Cleo said, shaking her head, holding her plate with one hand. "No, I wasn't!" Kim denied. Cleo gave her a look, frowning as she does so, saying her name once more as to get her to spit it out. "Kim."

Kim glared at her and Cleo returns it. They continue the staring contest with one another, forgetting about the people around them, when Kim finally breaks and sighs. "Fine," she replied, rolling her eyes.

"Okay, look. It wasn't that I thought it was scary because of what you could do to us. It was scary because of what you could do. Back then I always thought you were just my weirdo sister who had a strange fear over water. But when I saw your tail, my whole perspective on that changed. And that's what was scary. It was something new, something I wasn't used to. And you know how new things can be terrifying."

Cleo nodded, thinking about it. "Yeah, like when I jumped in the water for the first time after I got my tail, even though I was still scared, it was new to me. But once I tried it out and got used to it, it wasn't so bad like I thought it would be." Kim nodded in agreement.

"Exactly. That's what it was like for me when I first saw your tail that day. It was new, it was scary. But like, how you got over your fear of water, I got over my fear of the whole mermaid thing. When it started showing your secret on the screen, that's when I realized it; that I loved it: your powers, the tails, and the new Cleo."

Cleo looked at her in surprise. "The new me?"

"Yeah, you're definitely not the scaredy-cat you once were. These powers, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but along with your friends, made you into a better person," Kim nodded. Cleo smiled at that, glad that she and Kim were getting along better. Glad that their relationship was improving.

Kim winced as she thought of something else. "I might've been a pest when I was trying to expose you guys, and the other stuff, but I was such a kid then. I had time to learn from it, and now that I know the truth, I think it's actually pretty amazing. Don't let it get to your head though," Kim warned her, pointing a finger at her as Cleo laughed. "So don't worry about the whole fear thing anymore."

Cleo smiled at that. She felt happy yet a little relieved to know that her sister wasn't afraid of her anymore. She could feel the stress sinking away, the only bit of it left was mostly from her mother. But she could deal with that later.

"We're cool?" Kim asked, noticing that Cleo must've been lost in her thoughts since she didn't reply to her. Cleo jumped lightly then smiled again. "Yeah. We're cool."

"Good, now can we stop talking? If we continue this sisterly bonding, dad is going to think something even more magical is happening than just you guys sprouting tails," Kim smirked, jabbing a thumb behind her back, where Don was currently watching them, his jaw dropped in shock. Cleo laughed and said sure, as they turned around, and slowly made their way to the beverage table.

"Honey, I just want to know what happened," Terry sighed as he talked to his daughter in one of the many corners of the place, trying to discuss with her about the illegal fishing incident he saw earlier. Unfortunately, he wasn't getting much answers from her as she didn't want to open up about it. However, just like Rikki, he could be stubborn as well. He wasn't going to give up.

"You saw what happened. That was ages ago, just forget about it," Rikki fussed, her arms crossed. "Rikki, you can't keep being reckless like that. Especially now that you have these powers. If you do, you'll only get yourself in more danger. You've got to be more careful," he scolded her, hoping that he can get through to her.

"I am being careful. And I have gotten better, I've learned from my mistakes. I know not to reveal my powers in public. You think I don't know that? I've been doing this for a while now, dad," Rikki said, letting out a breath, getting a little annoyed by her dad's scolding.

"Really? Because that warehouse incident from earlier says otherwise." Rikki frowned at that. Why is he so hung up on that?

"Revealing your powers to some criminals. Wanting to hurt someone intentionally. It sounded nothing like you. I just don't want you getting hurt," Terry tells her with worry. Rikki scoffs and rolls her eyes.

"Wow, I'm so glad that you decided to start acting like a caring parent now out of all times," the sarcasm seething out as she walks past him, heading back towards the center of the room.

Terry turns around and looks at her, a sad look etched into his face as his tone changes from worry to a sound of guilt. "That's another thing." Rikki paused in her steps as she listens to him, slowly turning to him to see what else he has to say.

"I've noticed you mentioned the word 'mother' several times. You never brought her up at home." Rikki sighed, looking at the floor, a little bummed out. Of course he noticed that. Terry takes a step closer to her. "Do you miss her?"

"Who wouldn't miss their mother?" she muttered so quietly that he barely heard her. "I don't blame you. I miss her too," he replied, surprising Rikki.

He used to never talk about her, ever. To talk about her now, he must've kept this built up inside for a long time. She never did bring her up either as she was worried that she might upset him or make him angry. She didn't want to hurt her dad's feelings, not like her mom did.

"You know you remind me of her sometimes. You look so much like her that it's uncanny. Your hair, your eyes. You could almost be sisters," he said with a small smile.

Rikki laughed at that. "Is that your way of saying that I'm getting old?" Terry shook his head no with a laugh.

"I do miss her. I'll admit that I do think about her sometimes. Not as much as I used to, but I still do." Terry nods in response, and she continues. "But I'm not going to let that bother me. I'm not the only one like that," she said, thinking of Cleo and what she was going through now with her own mother.

"I'll be okay dad. I am okay," she finished with a small smile. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure dad. All I need is you," she chuckled as she gave him a hug, which he gladly returned.

When she opened her eyes, she sees Emma walk through the door with Zane right behind her. And my friends, I'll need them too. Plus Zane. And I guess I could include Lewis too. And that's all I need.

Rikki lets go of him and gives him a peck on the cheek. "Well, dad. I would love to hang out more, but I need to talk to Emma."

"Alright, and don't worry about food. I'll fix a plate for the both of us," he smiles as she walks off. "Thanks, dad," she waves.

Making her way through the tables, she finally gets to Emma, who was still next to the door, looking around. "Hey," Rikki spoke up as she got near, gaining Emma's attention. "Everything alright?" she asked, nodding in Zane's direction, who was now fixing himself a burger.

Emma looks at where she was nodding to then back at her with a smile. "Yeah. Everything's fine. It was really awkward for sure, but I think we cleared some things up." Rikki nodded. "Well that's good. So does that mean you two won't be arguing anymore?"

"No promises," Emma snorted. "But who knows, maybe we can be friends one day once he gets over his jerkiness."

Rikki rolled her eyes playfully. "And that'll be the day the world ends." He's not that bad. Not like he used to be.

The two of them began walking back to the buffet tables. "Though I do feel bad for ruining Bella's outfit." Rikki frowned, slowing her pace. "What do you mean?"

Emma looked at her and began to explain the accident that she caused. "Well, when we were walking out of the dorms, I kinda accidentally hit Bella with the door, causing her to spill water all over herself." She looks back at Rikki to see her stopped in her steps, eyes widened. "Luckily none landed on me though, so don't worry. And Bella said it was okay, but I still feel bad about it," Emma corrected, noticing the look on Rikki's face. Though it was not for what she thinks.

The look on Rikki's face was actually a look of sudden realization. If Bella got water on herself, then it normally wouldn't be a bad thing, would it? But with everything that's been going on, plus a few comments of defensiveness from Bella of understanding, the excuses she kept coming up with; it all sounded a little too familiar to a certain hot-tempered mermaid.

Rikki snapped out of her thoughts as she looks back at Emma. "Where is she now?" Emma points towards the door. "She's changing clothes."

"Oh, okay," she nods, trying to quickly think of a plan as they start their walk back to the tables once again.

"Oh, hey. I, uh, need to go to the bathroom," Rikki stopped, jabbing her thumb towards the door. "Okay." Emma turns back around and takes a step before pausing and turning back around. "Wait. What about your food?"

"Oh, it's fine. My dad is fixing a plate for me," Rikki waved it off. Emma smiled and nodded, then turned back around, leaving the girl alone. Once Rikki believed that it was clear, she turned on her heel and marched for the door, in search of the mysterious girl and hoping that her new theory would be proven correct.

During her race to the bathroom, Bella never noticed a figure lurking not too far behind her. Rikki watched as she saw the door close to the dorm room with a loud bang, then went at a steady pace to her next destination as to not be heard by her roommate.

With her hand on the doorknob, she slowly opened the door to their room and peeked her head inside. She looked around and sees that the room was clear and enters the bedroom, closing the bedroom door quietly. Nothing seemed out of place, she noticed as Rikki took a step further into the room.

Then suddenly she heard a thud noise come from the bathroom, which caused a wide grin to form. A loud thud that sounded all too familiar to her, as it happened to her all the time when she transformed unexpectedly.

Rikki took her hands out of her pockets and rounded the corner where she found the bathroom door wide open. She enters through the doorway and smiles as she finally found what she's been searching for.

The odd thing out of place, to fill in the last piece of the puzzle. On the ground of the bathroom floor, lied Bella, with her back facing Rikki as she laid on her stomach, with an orange, scaly tail sprouted out on the rest of the tiled floor.

Rikki leaned against the doorframe, her arms crossed as she stared smugly at the girl who struggled to lift herself up on her arms, a smile still gracing her face, filled with relief that her theory was now proven correct. That Bella knew more than she let on and was connected to them somehow. And now she knows why; Bella was a mermaid.

"Well, that's just fantastic," she heard Bella sarcastically mutter.

Rikki tilted her head, deciding on whether she should have a little fun or not. Eventually, she chose the latter, deciding to mess with the girl who believes she got away with her little incident. "I'll say. That's definitely something you don't see every day," Rikki quipped.

She saw Bella stiffen and her smug grin grows bigger, glad to have the girl's attention. To know that she was busted. "Though now these days it seems pretty normal for me," she added.

Bella quickly, for someone with a heavy tail at least, whipped around, her tail flopping over on the floor, and looked at her with wide eyes.

Rikki sighed and nods to where her legs used to be. "Nice tail." Bella's jaw dropped. Silently stuttering as she stumbled at trying to speak, unable to figure out what to do or say.

Rikki huffed and looked anywhere but at her, taking in the sight of the shiny white bathtub, the matching sink and toilet along with it, and the light pink tile that runs along the walls. Mentally she wished they weren't there though. Pink was definitely not for her; reminded her of Miriam, the pink freak.

"So, this is what you've been hiding. I figured something was going on." Bella's wide eyes turn into a look of pure fear. "Ho-how -?" she tried to say, finally having the strength to speak. But Rikki cuts her off.

"Oh, you know, just the occasional comment of yours every now and then during the screening. Like how you know how it feels or understand in some ways. Then when we would question you about it, you would quickly tell us an excuse or change what you meant. And how you were able to figure out Mrs. Chatham's secret so quickly, before it was even revealed, and before anyone else could even get close to it. There's also this strange feeling I kept getting, and I know you felt it too. Must've been a magical connection," Rikki shrugged.

She steps into the room further and turns around, closing the door behind her and twisting the lock till she heard it click. "Plus, Emma told me about y'all's unfortunate encounter, with the water. And it eventually clicked in my head. Seemed like a dead giveaway. Now this definitely was," she chuckled, turning back to the mermaid.

Her laughter was cut short when she saw the mermaid trying with all her might to scoot away from Rikki. Bella must've assumed she was a threat, causing Rikki's smile to fall and roll her eyes. "Hey, relax. I'm not going to hurt you," she lightly scoffed. "And I should believe you, because…?" Bella asked, the distrust could be heard in her tone.

"Because I'm just like you, duh. Who else would you trust more than a fellow mermaid?" Rikki stated as if it were obvious. My parents, obviously, Bella thought to herself, though knew that Rikki did make a good point. It sounded similar to the advice Mrs. Chatham gave her; to make a friend who understands. Although Rikki's was rather in a harsher tone than the elderly person.

"So, when were you planning on making your big showcase?" Rikki asked, staying at her place by the door, nodding toward her tail once again. "Wasn't planning on it," Bella said quietly. "I mean, Mrs. Chatham kept saying I should tell you guys soon. But I don't think I'm ready for that. Or was, at least."

Rikki huffed and shook her head, annoyed with herself that she never asked her out of all people in the first place. "Of course she knew. What doesn't she know?"

Silence fell upon them, the two unsure of what to do next. That was until Rikki made the first move and made her way over to the mermaid and bent down next to her. Bella resisted the urge to flinch, still a little afraid of what she might do to her. "So I'm assuming that was your jelly we discovered last night then?" Bella nodded slowly. "That's one way to show off," Rikki said. "I wasn't trying to. It was an accident. It happened when I went to the bathroom. But when I came in here, I sneezed and apparently, allergies or any sickness can cause your powers to go wild."

"Interesting." That was something she didn't know. Making a mental note to stay away from anything that could cause her powers to act up. "Any other powers?"

"I can harden the jelly into a crystalize-substance. Almost like glass," she explained with a shrug. "Impressive," Rikki replied, though she wasn't all that impressed. So what? She could create lightning. Nothing can beat that!

Rikki raised her hand above Bella and slowly made it into a fist as she began to steam-dry her tail. Bella flinched, unable to hide it that time due to the sudden sting that came from the heat. "I thought you said you weren't going to hurt me."

"A little sting won't kill you," she said, trying not to roll her eyes so she could concentrate on getting her out of this fishy situation.

"How long have you been a mermaid?" she asked, deciding to change the subject. "Since I was nine." Rikki's eyes widen, trying her best not to break her concentration, as her hand was now a complete fist. "No freaking way."

"Uh, yeah," Bella said in a duh tone. "How in the world were you able to hide a tail for that long? Especially since you would've been in elementary school!" she nearly shouted. "A lot of hard work and excuses," Bella said with a small smile, the small conversations distracting her from her fear of being revealed. "Plus with the help from my parents."

"Your parents? You told your parents?" Rikki asked cautiously. "Yeah. I was nine years old. What else was I supposed to do? I couldn't do it on my own," Bella remarked, watching as the steam slowly began to increase in the bathroom, making it a little hotter than it was once before. "Besides, they're my parents. Why wouldn't I trust them? Like what you said earlier, who would I trust more than them?"

Rikki felt a small amount of guilt rising in her chest, being reminded of how she never told her dad her secret, till she was inevitably forced to. And she knew that Cleo and Emma felt the same way. At least he knew now, and he seemed cool with it. It made some of her stress slip away.

"Are you going to tell them?" Bella asked, unknowingly interrupting Rikki's thoughts. "Hm?"

"Your friends. Are you going to tell them about me?" Bella asked once again, looking down like she was defeated.

Rikki looked up at her, thinking it over. She released her fist and let the steam vanish into the air as she thought it over, knowing that her tail should disappear at any moment. Then she gave her a small grin and shook her head. "Nah."

"But why? You three are clearly best friends from what we've seen. You know pretty much know everything about each other. Why would you keep this from them?" Bella asked in complete shock. "Because it's not my business to tell. I know I was snooping and well, now I know. But it wouldn't be right for me to blab it to them unless you said so," Rikki said quickly, once she saw the look Bella was giving her about her business.

"And besides, I understand." "You do?" Bella asked with a raised eyebrow. "Yeah. If I were in your shoes, or tail, I wouldn't want someone to tell the whole world about my business unless I said it myself. And we might be close, but I can keep things a secret from them as well," she smirked.

"You can?" Bella asked skeptically. "Yup. They'll find out eventually of course, especially if this stupid viewing catches up to present time. But like how you're not ready for them to find out, I'm not ready for them to find out about mine either."

Bella let out a breath, glad that Rikki understood. And utterly relieved that Rikki was going to keep her secret. For the time being at least. She knew she'll have to tell the others eventually, now that Rikki knows, but now was not the time. She hasn't told a soul since she first transformed. Bella wasn't ready yet for what could come from it. She wasn't ready to face them.

Bella's tail finally vanishes, her body forming into water before transforming back to her normal 'human' self. Rikki stood up and offered her a hand, which Bella takes and stands up straight. "Thanks," Bella said as she wiped her clothes off, making sure she didn't get them dirty. "For the help. And the talk."

"No prob. What are friends for?" Rikki shrugged. Bella nodded, then paused, holding a hand up. "Wait. Friends?"

"Sure. I guess we are. I know your secret, you know mine. We're sharing a secret and we understand how it feels. Sounds like friends to me," Rikki explained with a small smile, which Bella quickly matched. "Yeah, it does." I guess this is what Mrs. Chatham was trying to tell me. Make a friend who understands. She knows what I'm going through and vice versa. Friends understand what they're going through. Someone who will have your back. She couldn't help but get excited over finally making a friend. And hopes to make some more soon.

They finally exit the bathroom and leave their dorm and head back into the theater room, where it was already bustling with people. Everyone had a plate and was already in their seats eating. Except for Charlotte and Annette, who were picking at their fish with a fork, too distracted by their many thoughts to be able to even think about eating. But it was never noticed by the two as they made their way back to their seats.

Terry hands Rikki her plate, and she smiles as she sees the yogurt in a small bowl on the side of her plate. He knows me so well. Hopefully it tastes like Mrs. Gilbert's homemade yogurt.

Luckily for Bella, Mrs. Chatham had made her one while she was gone. She thanked the elderly woman and sat down. Sam asked if everyone was ready and they all agreed, muttering a yes, or in Charlotte and Annette's case, silently nodding their head. She grabbed the remote and pressed play.
