"Doctor?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you enjoy this?"
Watson looked up then. "Holmes," he said slowly. "I am examining a corpse."
"Yes, of course. What I mean to say is, do you enjoy investigating cases like this?"
"Well, I'd hardly do it if I disliked it."
"Of course."
Watson looked back up, and Holmes didn't like the scrutinizing look in his hazel eyes. Then he barked a short laugh and his accent turned full Scots. "Ye absolute bampot."
"I beg your pardon?!"
"Idiot, Holmes. You're an idiot. Yes, of course, we're friends."
"That is not what I asked," Holmes attempted with whatever scraps of dignity were left to him.
"Yes, it was, and that is why you're a bampot." Watson was grinning far too smugly. "I wouldnae willingly spend so much time with you if we weren't friends, Sherlock Holmes."
Holmes managed a contemptuous sniff. "As usual, Doctor, you have drawn a totally erroneous conclusion."
"Ah. Well then, I'll just be off."
"What?!"
"Well, I don't see how I'm needed if I usually draw erroneous conclusions."
"Watson…"
