A/N: This chapter will be the only one where I'll make up for calling Teresa a bitch. So, if anyone hated that, happy reading.

Thomas and Minho reached him.

"Hey! Newt." Thomas grinned.

Newt just stood there, smiling at him. He couldn't stop smiling after realising that he liked him.

Minho snapped his fingers in front of Newt. "Earth to Newt."

Newt blinked his eyes and again looked at Thomas. "How're you feelin' Tommy?"

"Great!" Thomas replied.

"Yeah, he's too enthusiastic. I think he's crazy." Minho whispered the last part to Newt, clearly hoping for Thomas to listen.

Newt laughed, and Thomas frowned. "How did you feel when you went into the maze for the first time?"

Minho was about to answer, but Newt cut him off. "He felt like a bloody idiot. And I felt like savin' a bloody idiot."

Minho rolled his eyes and went inside the Map room. "You didn't even know what you were saving me from."

Newt and Thomas followed him inside.

"I was savin' you from gettin' crushed by the walls or spendin' a night in the maze. You would've died the first day you came if it wasn't for me." The blonde replied.

"You would've died too if I didn't remember the direction back into Glade." The raven-haired guy replied.

"Whoa, whoa, I think I'm missing a lot here. You became a runner on your first day?" Thomas asked Minho.

Minho and Newt shared a look, deciding who gets to tell the story. But then decided on telling it together. They both changed the narration after every three lines. While telling him about their experience, they both helped him picked the things he'll need inside the Maze.

"-We both convinced Alby, and from that day we started running into the maze every day." Minho finished the story.

"Alright, you have everything. Just need a vest in which you can keep your stuff." The blonde pointed.

"Well, take your pick." Minho told Thomas, pointing towards the different leather vests he placed on the table for him. Some of them looked old, with a lot of cut marks on them.

He analyzed them for a minute and picked one. "This one seems in handy. Newt, what do you think?" He showed the vest he picked to the blonde.

Newt's eyes widened when he saw the vest he was holding. "That's my vest, from when I was... "

"Oh... you don't mind, do you?" Thomas asked, thinking that maybe Newt had some memory attached to it.

"No, no. It's fine. Um... nice choice."

"Thanks." He grinned and put it on. He placed all his stuff in it.

"It looks good on you." Newt mentally slapped himself for saying his thoughts out loud.

"Really?" Thomas asked, smiling, to which Newt just nodded, not trusting himself for speaking again.

Minho then explained to Thomas everything about the maze he couldn't yesterday because of Teresa and his punishment.

Meanwhile, Newt was gazing at Thomas's every expression and every movement. He got lost admiring the brunette in front of him. He wasn't able to move his eyes away from Thomas. His gaze traveled upon his body and reached to his face. Taking in his sharp jawline and perfect cheekbones, and his soft eyes. Suddenly, his heart demanded him a strong desire to protect him, keep him safe and happy.

Newt's train of thoughts stopped when Minho was done explaining everything to Thomas. "Okay, you ready to go?" Minho asked.

"Yeah." Thomas replied.

The three boys left the Map room.

"Good luck, Tommy." Newt said as they walked, placing his hand on his back once they almost reached the border of the Deadheads.

"Thanks." He grinned.

"Don't worry Newt. I'll make sure he doesn't die on his first run." Minho joked.

Thomas rolled his eyes while Newt gave Minho a stare with a half-laugh. Minho laughed and Newt, after again taking one last look at Thomas, made his way outside the woods, opposite to the wall with Maze entrance.

He was worried about Thomas, but he knew he could survive the maze in daylight if he did it at night. He was walking, smiling to himself, when Teresa came in front of his view.

"Hi, Newt." She greeted him with a smile.

"Hey." Newt returned the smile, more like the smile never left his face in the first place.

"Have you seen Thomas?" she asked.

And Newt's smiled faded away slowly. "Yeah, he's right there." Newt pointed behind him where he just left Thomas and Minho.

"Okay, Thanks." She said and made her way to Thomas.

Newt stopped walking and frowned to himself. He quickly turned his head around and saw that Teresa already reached him. He saw Teresa and Thomas talking and smiling at each other. Minho was standing a little farther from both of them.

Every cell in Newt's body felt like was yelling 'Red Alert'. He didn't know what to do, he just wanted Teresa to not stand that close to Thomas.

Just when Newt was thinking about that, Minho broke into their conversation, "You two need a minute?" and started making his way to the maze. "Let's go, we're in daylight."

Thomas followed him in silence, and Teresa smiled, watching him take off.

Newt turned around and started walking faster towards somewhere no one could find him. He needed some time to figure out whatever he was feeling right now. He ran and found himself outside the room where Alby was sleeping. He quietly sat down on a chair near the door.

What the hell am I thinking? I can't feel about Tommy that way? He is my friend. Besides, I don't even know if he thinks about me that way. And then there is Teresa... uh, I don't like her. There is something really wrong about that girl. How come she came up out of that box right after the day Tommy came. That too with exactly the thing we needed.

"Newt?"

He looked up to see Teresa standing in front of him.

"Are you okay?" She asked him with a concerning look.

"Yeah." Newt replied with a blank expression on his face.

Teresa sat down on the chair beside him. "Are you sure? You look stressed. You were fine a minute ago."

Newt sighed. He was being stupid. He can't blame Teresa for something she didn't do out of jealousy.

I don't even know if she likes him, or he likes her back. I've to stop being selfish. I don't have time for these problems right now. My major focus should be on working things smoothly inside the Glade until we get out... If we ever get out, then maybe I'll think about anything with Thomas... if possible... maybe.

Newt saw Teresa looking at him, waiting for an answer. "Yeah, I'm good. Just thinking about gettin' out of this hell."

"I'm sorry. It must've been hard living here for that much time. I can't believe there are people in this world who would do this to us. I mean, why would they do this. What good would it do to keep us here?" Her voice started sounding irritated.

"Hmm." was the only thing that came out of Newt's mouth.

Teresa analyzed him for a moment. "You know you can share whatever it is that is bothering you. It helps."

Newt let out a small laugh. "Why do you think something is bothering me?"

"I don't know." She replied. "Maybe the fact that everyone here has something that's bothering them."

Newt made an expression that said 'Touche'.

"And from what I know, everybody here shares it with you. You listen to everyone. You're the one keeping everybody else stable in here, keeping them on the right track."

Newt was a little taken back by her statement. "Really?" I'm not even stable myself. What is she talking about? Newt thought. Why am I listening to her? She came here yesterday. "How do you know that?"

"Thomas told me." Teresa started counting names on her fingers, "And Chuck, Frypan, Minho."

Newt was surprised. A small smile formed on his face, knowing that his friends thought about him like that. It's a good thing if I'm helping my friends. He thought.

"Who do you go to share your problems with?" Teresa asked.

Newt frowned. "I never thought about it like that before. I don't..." He paused at the realization that he never talked to anyone about his problems. He always ran somewhere no one could find him and thought about it inside his mind.

"Everyone needs someone they can talk to. If you just keep it buried inside yourself, one day it will burst out. And you'll either end up hurting yourself or someone close to you."

Newt's eyes widened. He knew she was right. It's exactly what happened before when he couldn't take it in anymore. He ended up hurting himself by getting that limp, and Minho, he was devastated because of him too.

But he couldn't just pour his heart out to her. Especially not if it was about Thomas.

"You have other friends too. You should talk to them if not me." She said.

"You're right." Newt told her. "But don't worry. I really am fine."

"Okay." She nodded. "I don't believe you, but okay."

"You care a lot, don't you? You just came here yesterday." He asked.

"Thomas cares about you a lot. And any friend of his is a friend of mine." She shrugged and replied. "And you're a nice person."

"Thanks." He said softly, not looking at her.

Newt didn't know whether to be happy about the fact that Thomas cares about him or sulk about the fact that they both were already this close. One thing was sure that he didn't want to talk to her about Thomas.

Newt forced all the feelings he had for Thomas aside and decided to see both him and Teresa as his friends.

Newt stood up. "So, let's give you the tour of the glade, shall we?"

Teresa got up too. "We shall."

They laughed and went out of the room.

Thomas had told her about most of the things already, so it took Newt less time to show her around than Thomas.

While showing her around, she seemed like a pleasant person to Newt. And Newt realised how stupid he was to think differently about her just out of jealousy.

"So, did you decide where you want to start?" Newt asked.

"How about I start with Frypan? I have a feeling I'm good at mixing stuff and creating something edible." She said.

Newt made a horrified expression "Your way of describin' cookin' makes me want to stop you from goin' anywhere near the kitchen."

She rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on. I'll be a fine cook."

She wasn't a fine cook. She spent half of her time trying not to burn any more food than she already had and the other half trying to get the right taste in one dish she made Newt didn't know the name of.

It was almost lunchtime a d Frypan had to quickly take care of the meal for all the hungry Gladers arriving soon. So, he kicked both of them out of the kitchen by saying "I really like you but please never come here again."

Newt gave her the 'I warned you.' look while they walked away from the kitchen.

"Oh, shut up." She said. "I'll help Clint and Jeff. I'm pretty sure I know a lot about the medical field." She replied.

"Really?" Newt asked, handing her one of the two apples he stole while Frypan was lecturing her.

"Yes!" she replied, taking a big bite of the apple

"Okay then."

Newt was looking after Alby while Clint and Jeff explained everything to her. It was true to say that she explained them more than they did. She really had a significant amount of knowledge in the medical field.

After a while, Clint and Jeff took off to take care of the slicers and left Newt and Teresa to look after Alby.

They both spent the time talking to each other. Newt told her some funny stories from the Glade. This time, Newt didn't bother when their conversation changed to the topic of Thomas. It wasn't that horrible; he didn't know what he was afraid of before. Soon, the topic of their conversation again changed.

Teresa laughed. "Are you serious?"

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure Minho has a whole secret stash of hair products lying around somewhere." Newt chuckled.

"Well, that explains a lot. I was wondering how did his hair look like that. And he doesn't even share. What a Bastard." Teresa replied, acting shocked.

They both broke into a laugh. Newt remembered how long it was before he had a laugh like that. Before, he got his limp probably, when he and Minho used to joke around like that.

Suddenly, a really loud sound of alarm reached their ears, making them silent. When it stopped, Teresa looked at Newt and asked, "What was that?"

"I don't know. Haven't heard that one before." He replied.

Sounds from the Gladers started coming from outside.

"They're not in trouble, are they?" Teresa asked, and without her saying, Newt knew she meant Thomas and Minho.

"Stay here. Alright? I'll check what's goin' on." Newt told her and went out.

Just as he came out, he saw all the Gladers gathering around him. Each one of them looking at him, hoping for some answers. He ordered all of them to return to their work, except the Keepers.

Newt made his way towards the entrance of the maze anxiously, and all the Keepers followed him.

"Oh, what has your favourite Greenie done now?" Gally asked.

"Gally, shut your hole!" Newt yelled. Everyone flinched at his comment, but he didn't seem to notice. "If you're only gonna say something against Thomas, then don't bother openin' your mouth."

He turned around and returned to his trail. He just wanted to reach the entrance and see Thomas and Minho standing there with all body parts working. Gally didn't say another word after that.

Once they all reached the entrance, Newt said, "I don't know what was that alarm about. We'll just wait for Minho and Thomas to return and hope they know what it was."

"There's still about two hours left for the walls to close. We're just gonna stand here and wait for them." Winston asked.

"They'll drop whatever they're doin' and return after hearin' that alarm. They'll be here any minute now." Newt replied, looking into the Maze.

Chuck joined them while they were waiting. And just like Newt said, Thomas and Minho showed up after something like fifteen or so minutes.

They both reached Newt, out of breath from the running, but they didn't stop after reaching him. They continued moving towards the map room, which told Newt that they had found something really important today.

"What the hell's going on out there?" He asked.

Gally took the opportunity to annoy Newt. "What the hell you done now, Thomas?"

Thomas ignored Gally and tried to stop to talk to Newt. But seeing Minho not stopping, he kept following him and looked at Newt while walking. "We found something, a new passage. We think it could be a way out."

"Really?" Newt asked, not able to believe the younger boy's words.

"It's true." Minho said. "We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it must be where the Grievers go during the day."

"Wait! Whoa, whoa, whoa..." Chuck cut through the crowd of keepers that were following them. "You're saying you found the Grievers' home? And you want us to go in?"

"Their way in could be our way out, Chuck." Thomas told him.

"Yeah, or there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side." Gally's voice came from behind them. "The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he has done, as usual."

Thomas stopped immediately and turned around. "Yeah, well, at least I did something, Gally!" He said, not being able to ignore Gally's words anymore. Newt and Minho turned around too, standing behind Thomas, ready to handle things if they got messy. "I mean, what have you done? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time?"

That statement threw Gally off the rail. "Let me tell you something, Greenie. You've been here 3 days, all right? I've been here 3 years-"

Thomas cut him off. "Yeah, you've been here 3 years and you're still here, Gally! What does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently."

"Hey." a small voice said, which Gally and Thomas both ignored.

"Maybe you should be in charge, what about that?" Gally said.

"Hey," the voice again said and Newt found it was Teresa "It's Alby!" she yelled. "He's awake."

A/N: The reason I don't write about the 'incident' is that I don't want to spoil it for someone who only watched the movies and this is all going on inside Newt's head. He has buried it deep inside his mind. He doesn't even want to think about what happened. So yeah, I'll keep on writing it as 'the incident' instead of explaining it until the right time.

The right time will be when he's ready to talk about it.
