New Reno was no stranger to violence, after all it was run by 4 crime families that all openly hated eachother and vied for control. Some fights were to be expected, this fight however was not between the crime families, oh no.
Earlier in the day a messanger arrived, a blood covered member of the Salvatores bringing in tales of Soldiers wearing Power Armor and Soldiers equipped with state of the Art Equipment by Wasteland standards. These men claimed to be the United States Army and told him to tell the families that they have until evening to surrender the city into Government hands or be forced to do so.
At first this claim was dismissed as crazy talk until the Salvatores said that they have been trading with the remnants of the government for years and the soldiers were described fit the look of the Government soldiers. All 4 families agreed to defend New Reno, it was not known what would happen to them if they surrendered so the decision was made to fight the Soldiers to a standstill and negotiate from there.
That was the plan anyway. When evening came the Wrights welcomed the soldiers with open arms while the other families didn't, with that the battle of New Reno began and for the first time ever since 2077 Reno had a government presence.
Plasma and Laser Burns doted the walls of the Desperado as the Mordinos defended the casino with everything they had. Having to capture the city without additional Damage done to it the Enclave troops were prohibited from using their heavier equipment and Vertibird support was non-existent.
While the ghouls at Gecko were disorganized the mobsters of the Mordino family at least had some basic training on how to hold a gun and use it. It wasn't terribly efficient but it did force the Enclave troops to fight carefully.
Urban Warfare just like 200 years ago was a nightmare for any military and it was the same here. While the Heavy Infantry fought on the main street, slowly pushing the Mordinos back to the casino, the light infantry was looking for an alleyway that led to the casino which was easier said than done with every corner proving to be a potential ambush point.
The light infantry Advanced slowly street for street checking every corner they went past for a possible enemy. While advancing they found a young boy who when questioned said his name was Myron and that he escaped the Mordinos during the fighting while his guards weren't looking.
He showed them the way he used to escape and was send back to the Wright territory where the Enclave FOB was located. Using the passage shown by the kid the soldiers snuck behind the Mordino thugs and were in sight of the Casino. They breached the casino and killed almost everyone inside until Big Jesus Mordino surrendered. Due to being cut off from most of his thugs the message didn't reach them and once the information was relayed in the command chain of the Enclave Heavy Infantry exploited the secret passage and together with the main force and light infantry encirceled and killed the remaining thugs of the Mordino family.
While this was going on the 2nd Company was advancing in on the Salvadore territory. The previous dealings the crime family did with the Enclave proved detrimental to the Enclave soldiers now as the thugs were equipped with laser weaponry and were more than happy to use it against them now that they were fighting.
The Heavy infantry provided covering fire while the light infantry advanced up the defensive positions. This continued until Enclave soldiers were right up to the hastily assembled barricades and used them against the Salvadores.
Slowly being pushed back up to their Bar the Salvatores tried their best to offer resistance but it did nothing but delay the Enclave soldiers by a few minutes at best. With the bar surrounded and all lines of escape cut off the Salvatores surrendered and were brought into the wright territory and put in a temporary prison camp.
With that the 2nd and 3rd Company were poised for an attack on the Bishops. The attack on the Bishops was by far the hardest one of all. While the Salvadores and Mordinos fell the Bishops used that time to fortify their position and even set up a snipers nest.
Having to deal with a sniper and being prohibited from using heavy weapons they opted to use the small streets between the buildings to advance and hide from the sniper.
By the end of the day Enclave troops captured the Bishops but during the fighting something happened. The guards of John Bishop turned out to be NCR soldiers who were promptly killed and John Bishop captured. When the sweep of the Bishop bar happened they discovered in the quarters of the NCR soldiers a busted radio and a burned code book.
As the sun rose and the fighting stopped the people living crawled out of whatever hole, building or sewer they hid for the duration of the fight. Wondering who their new overlords were and what would happen to them. The sight of soldiers patrolling the streets was a weird sensation for the people.
Being able to walk on the street without fear of being mugged was a welcome feeling. Then came what everyone never thought would be possible. John Bishop and Big Jesus Mordino were dragged into the middle of the town at the Enclave FOB that was turning into a relief station.
Both of them had their hands tied behind their backs and were led by guards up to a stand with a set of nooses. The public gathered as the nooses were put around their necks and a soldier not wearing power armor stepped up unfolded a piece of paper and started reading.
"John Bishop has been found guilty of Extortion, Kidnaping, Blackmail and assault of US Citizens, Prostitution, Illegal Trade of Alcohol, Illegal Trade of Weaponry, theft of Government Property and Assassination of foreign Officials. Judged under US Wartime Law he is sentenced to Death by Hanging." The stool under Bishop was kicked from under him and he fell starting to slowly and painfully suffocate.
The Soldier moved next to Mordino "Big Jesus Mordino has been found guilty of Extortion, Kidnaping, Assault, Homicide, Drug Trade, Blackmail, Prostitution, Rape and theft of Government Property. Judged under US Wartime Law he is sentenced to Death By Hanging" The stool was kicked from under him and he joined Bishop in slowly suffocating as the people watched in shock.
2 of the most notorious crime families in New Reno lost their heads and were being rounded up all over the City by soldiers that claimed to be part of the Old Government. Food and Clean Water was being handed out at the FOB, The streets were safe and the public slowly convinced that the good old US of A was back.
Recruitment was opened alongside the Citizenship process being started. All citizens of Reno had to report to the Enclave FOB and help in filling out a form after which they would receive their Citizenship papers, once those were received some were swept up by the optimism and high spirits around the town and decided to join the Military.
"Recruitment is continuing but I have no idea if our current numbers will hold up against the NCR even with our superior Technology." Said one Colonel Stone
"What we need is a highly trained force of soldiers. Gecko and New Reno have shown that a month long boot camp for the new recruits while providing more training that anyone will have in their entire life time. The NCR also trains its soldiers, and to match their amount we will have to extend the bootcamp to be 2 months long, this will Delay new forces joining the Units" said Major Howard
"What about the Brotherhood of Steel?" asked Captain Williams
Everyone turned to him and looked at him with a look of disbelief even Churchill raised an Eyebrow. Speaking up he asked "What about those deserters?"
"We could offer them amnesty and reincorporate them into the Army" said Williams
"You want us to forgive the deserters when they abandoned us while the Communists were bombing us? Not to mention they are partially responsible for the Super Mutant Problem across all of California. Had they not executed the scientists the FEV would have been properly secured" said Stone
"These are their descendants, they didn't go awol on us, if we just offer them the option to return they might accept it" spoke Williams
"Are you mad?! They might just as well shot us and take Government Property and then not only will we have the NCR on our hands but also some power armor wearing crazy folk who believe in Hubology!" yelled stone.
"Calm down Stone, Williams has a point. They might not even know the Original reason their parents and grandparents went AWOL, we might be able to spin it in such a way that they will join" said Howard
"Lets hypothetically say they join, What kind of force would we gain, what would we do with their Leadership? How will we solve the issue of money?" asked Churchill
"Like with new reno we at first exempt them from Taxation for a month of two until the incorporation is complete and then tax them like we tax our soldiers, they would be joining the Military after all. Their leadership depending on their skill and loyalty we could give them low end CO positions or higher NCO positions. As for the forces if they reproduced atleast a bit to rais their numbers after the war then I am told we are looking at 1 company, 2 at best." Said Williams
"Hmmm, alright, we will contact them in a month but for now tell me about the 3 towns, how is the situation looking there now?" asked Churchill
"Our engineers fixed the Reactor at Gecko and the power is being send to both Vault City and New Reno. We cleared the radioactive waste from the premis and cleaned what we can but due to the improper management of the Reactor 1/4th of Gecko will be uninhabitable for atleast 20 years. Some people from Vault city have already chosen to relocate to Gecko since it is clear of mutants." Said Howard
"Vault city integrated itself without problem. Now that the area is safe they started to build houses outside of the Wall. The former guards have successfully been reorganized into a police force and the Guard station has been remade into a Police Departament. Taxation is going well and we managed to upgrade the manufacturing facilities in the Vault itself and in the City. The engineers have said that Vault Tec design of the reactor is abysmal and we are lucky that so many vaults survived, they are working on upgrading the Reactor as we speak." Said Williams
"My boys have brought New Reno under control and we are slowly setting up wells for clean water while also teaching them how to read, most of New Reno is illiterate. The thugs have been forced into prison labour and are helping us fix the infastructure around the City while we fortify our Position. The Army depot has been fully restored and we are awaiting the first shipment of materials so we can start production of equipment" said Stone
"That's good. I was presented with a plan to solve many of our Problems. The NCR has its flaws and everyone sees that, even their own people. The propaganda department has presented me a proposal to set up a Enclave Radio to motivate people to voice their discontent with the NCR and flee to our territory. Reports have shown that the NCR is very intolerant of critism and punishes it harshly. If we can create discontent it will just boost our position making the people more likally to accept our Rule in the Future. For that effort Stone tell your engineers to set up a radio mast on one of the structully sound buildings left standing in the city. The Propagand Departament will handle the rest
