Sonic and Merna were sitting on a rock above the sea surface, dipping their tails in the water so they wouldn't dry out. They looked at the night sky, staring at the many stars that lit it up. "Wow, the sky is beautiful tonight. I could stare at the sky for hours." Merna remarked with a smile as she held Sonic's hand and flicked her tail for a moment.
Sonic smiled and nodded in agreement. "You said it, Merna. I never really appreciated the beauty of the night sky before I became a Merhog. When I used to live on the surface, there was just too much light that ruined the beauty of the night sky. Way out here on the open sea, the beauty of the night sky is so much more natural." He replied to his orange Merhog mate as he held her hand.
"Yeah...I wonder how your friends from your life on the surface are doing right now..." Merna then spoke.
"There's no doubt that they really miss me, but at the same time, they probably also know that wherever they think I am, I must be living a happy life, which I am. I've got the most beautiful Merhog in the sea by my side, and I just feel so much more free as a Merhog. So essentially, it was the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm sure that my friends from my surface life are able to carry on the fight against Eggman. I have full confidence that they can." Sonic mused.
Merna nodded at that. "You're probably right, Sonic. I do have to say I would've liked to meet all your other friends besides Tails. I'm sure they would provide some good company." She replied to her cobalt blue Merhog mate.
"They were quite the handful when I used to live on the surface, but I loved them regardless. I'm sure you would've liked them if you met them." Sonic smiled as he put an arm around Merna.
Merna smiled too as she put an arm around Sonic as well. "That's nice to hear..." She spoke before she and Sonic continued to look at the night sky. As the two Merhogs turned to look at the full moon that was in the night sky, they couldn't help but notice that the full moon was even brighter than usual, just like in Sonic's story.
"...Huh. The full moon is even brighter than usual tonight. Weird." Sonic remarked.
"Yeah...But it can't be a situation like in that story you told, since it was just a story." Merna chimed in.
Sonic nodded at that. "Yeah...Perhaps there's just a special moon tonight that happens to fall on the same night as Halloween night." He agreed. Suddenly, a figure appeared in the moon, and it soon came crashing out of the sky, and into the water.
Merna was startled by the figure suddenly crashing into the water. "Say, is there supposed to be something falling out of the sky and into the water during this special moon?" She asked Sonic, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think there is..." Sonic replied, scratching his head. The figure soon surfaced near Sonic and Merna, and as it did, the figure's features became clear. The figure was a Merhog, and it had a black fishtail, pale white fur, blood red eyes that lacked any pupils, sharp claws, and was rather feral in nature. It was the Merhog from Sonic's story, and it snarled at Sonic and Merna.
Merna screamed. "It's the feral Merhog from your story!"
"Quick, swim for your life!" Sonic exclaimed as him and Merna dove under the water and sped off like torpedoes with the feral Merhog hot in pursuit.
"What are we gonna do, Sonic?" Merna asked her cobalt blue mate in a panicky voice.
"I know! We'll lose it in the sunken ship graveyard! Follow me!" Sonic replied as he held Merna's hand and the two Merhogs continued to speed through the water like torpedoes.
