"Ryan...there's something I need to talk to you about." Ginias said, "Not even Aina and Rose know this but...mom is-"
"Gone?" Adrian finished, "I thought as much."
"How'd you…?"
"She never sent any letters, in fact, I never even heard from her." Adrian said, "And I know that she her marriage with Karl was a political one. She jumped off a sinking ship,"
"So...you knew?"
"Suspected. I wasn't sure until now."
"Sorry then. For not telling you all these years."
Adrian looked at Ginias, and the guilt on his face, "It's alright." Ginias looked up at him, "I don't judge. Come on, help me pack."
Rosary slunk into her room, and sighed. "What am I going to say…" She looked up, 'More importantly, why did I say yes?'
She sighed, suddenly, a knock came on her door. "It's Ryan. I'd like to come in."
"Sure." She opened the door. "Also, you don't need to use our fake names Adrian."
"Right Rosary." Adrian nodded, "Anyway...I'm leaving the academy,"
"Dozle expelled you?"
"Well…" Adrian explained everything, how Ginias had chosen him to test pilot the prototype Zaku I.
Rosary looked up at the ceiling, 'God is a bitch.' She thought. Then hugged her brother, "We may never see eachother again."
"Rosary...I'm not planning to die-"
"It's not about you." Rosary cut him off, "I'm leaving Banchi, and I'm transferring to a Federation Academy on scholarship."
Adrian stiffened in fear, "No. No!" Adrian clutched her, "What the hell?! You can't leave!" For the first time in years, tears began to fall out of his eyes. "Erena abandoned us years ago. Karl is dead. I have no idea where mom and dad are...you, Aina, and Ginias are all I have left!"
"Erena...left us?"
"Why do you think we never received a single letter?! Ginias confessed it to me earlier today, she was nothing more than a gold-digger."
Rosary began to cry in her brothers arms. "I'm sorry! Okay?! I don't know what to do, I've never known what to do! I had so little time to make this choice and I messed up!"
Adrian stepped back, and sat down defeatedly, "It's too late now."
"What? I can just say I changed my mind-"
"You can't stay here." Adrian stood, "You've already drawn attention to yourself by visiting with a Federation Officer. How long is it before someone does a little too much detective work because they think you're working for the Feds?"
"You're being paranoid!"
"Am I? We raided a Federation barracks just last week. Riah is on the verge of civil war. Tell me, am I being paranoid?!"
"See. That's the thing, you were a part of that raid. You helped fuel the nationalism in this school. Don tell me about the dangers of nationalism Mr. Big-hero!"
Adrian stepped back, his face a mix of sadness and rage. "Fine! Leave! I don't want to see you again, traitor!"
In a fit of rage, Rosary launched herself at Adrian, grabbed him by the collar before he could react, and threw him out before locking the door. She heard him get up and walk away.
'I said I was sorry...didn't I?' She collapsed against the door, and began to cry.
Adrian leaned on the wall, and banged his fist against it. 'I failed. Rosary is headed to the Federation now…'
He laughed mirthlessly, 'Three years...Three. Years. And I'm still a useless piece of shit.'
The next two days were the most difficult for the siblings. Their split had become something of a celebrity drama. Many rumors had sprouted about exactly what happened, many had it right - to an extent - Rose was leaving for the Federation, while Ryan was going into the Zeon National Guard.
Finally, the dreaded day arrived. Rosary said a quick goodbye to Aina and Zenna - her two surrogate sisters before leaving for the Federation.
As she looked out the Federation armored vehicle as she began to leave the Academy,
"You'll love Nijmegen." The Commandant said to her, "It's a really nice town."
Rosary nodded sadly.
Adrian heard a knocking on his door, "Come in!" He shouted,
Aina eeked opened the door, "Colonel Dozle says it's time to go."
"Colonel?"
"He got fired for letting the Dawn Rebellion happen."
"Oh." Adrian nodded,
"What happened between you and Rose?"
Adrian sighed, "We figured out where we were going. We argued about it."
"That isn't all." Aina pressed, "What happened with you?"
Adrian looked at her, "I failed. Alright? I was supposed to look after her, and I didn't." Adrian placed a hand on his head, "I've been a horrible brother to her."
Aina hugged him, "Relax. You're not that bad,"
Adrian patted her hand, "Thanks Aina."
"No problem, Adrian."
Adrian approached Dozle's car with nothing more than a single small suitcase.
"Light packer eh?" Dozle clapped him on the back, "Come on now! We don't have all day!"
Adrian quickly shoved the suitcase into the back, and hopped into the back of the car.
"Where are we going? I mean, I doubt we're immediately traveling to Riah."
"Indeed! We're going just next door, to Extra Banchi."
"The top-secret R&D colony?"
"Noted, Ginias is terrible at secrets."
Adrian didn't respond, and continued looking straight ahead, an unreadable expression on his face.
Adrian stepped off the transport that night and into Extra Banchi. It's interior was exactly what you expected of a military base, and it appeared everything had a purpose. In short, it was militaristic.
Adrian stepped on an open glass elevator, where he was amazed by the sheer amount of Mobile Workers everywhere. This place ran on mobile workers.
At the bottom the sliding glass door opened revealing a Zeon, his badges showed him to be a lieutenant.
"I take it you're our new cadet- Adrian?!" The moustached man gasped, and Adrian realized that this was not just any Zeon officer.
It was his father, Ramba Ral.
