A/N: Get ready for a few laughs and a bit of a backstory here.

Chapter Two: Getting Ready for the Show

The group were once again standing around the tree with Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Zuma, Rocky, Rubble and Skye all putting up a few of the ornaments while Goku and Wild Cat stood back. Goku had just helped Ryder and Rocky to put up the lights around the tree. Wild Cat was impressed by the tree and said, "Wow, nice tree, you guys."

"Thanks, it's just the right size. Not too big and not too small." Rocky said before taking a decoration out of the box. Ryder waved to both Goku and Wild Cat and said, "Come on. Decorating the tree is part of the fun."

"Okay." Wild Cat said and rushed forward. Goku walked up too, but still felt a little put off. Picking a multicolored ball on a string from the box he looked for a place on the tree.

He stretched his arm to a spot when Skye suddenly jumped in front of him and placed an ornament there, "Sorry, Goku."

"Uh, no worries." Goku said before moving to place it in another spot. Goku then asked, "So, when exactly is this Christmas thing supposed to start?"

"In about four days from now if I remember correctly." Chase said as he placed another ornament on the tree. Rubble became really excited, evident by his wagging tail, when he said, "I can't wait for the talent show tomorrow night."

"What talent show?" Wild Cat asked before grabbing an ornament and hopping onto Rubble's Pup Pack before jumping to a new spot on the tree. When he landed, Zuma nodded with an impressed grin, "Nice one, dude."

"Thanks." Wild Cat said. But he became confused and asked, "But what about this talent show?"

"Oh, it was Mayor Goodway's idea." Ryder said after placing another ornament. Looking to Wild Cat he said, "Tomorrow night, just about everyone in Adventure Bay is going to gather in front of City Hall to do a Christmas themed talent show. Some are going to sing, dance, do a few tricks or something else exciting."

"I can't wait to do our routine." Marshall excitedly said. Goku was a little confused and asked, "Your routine?"

"Oh, yeah. Mayor Goodway came over the other day and asked us if we wanted to part of the show." Ryder said and remembered what happened. Looking to each of the Pups by him he said, "Everyone here agreed to it. Even Goku did."

"I did?" Goku asked, not remembering him saying such a thing. Chase nodded and said, "Yeah. It was when we were in the middle of a training session."

"Don't you remember, Goku?" Skye asked and looked up to the Saiyan. Goku looked up to his left and scratched his chin while trying to remember. Ryder, Rocky, Marshall, Skye, Chase, Rubble and Zuma all looked in the same direction as Goku while Wild Cat was a little confused.

(Flashback)

Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, Rubble and Everest all laid around on the ground panting from the workout that they had gone through. Standing over them, a smiling Goku said, "Nice job, Pups. You're really coming along in your training."

"Uh, Wild Cat's lucky that he's away doing his shows." Zuma groaned as he laid on his side. Rocky, lying on his back, looked over the Chocolate Labrador and said, "I know how you feel. But at least we're becoming more and more prepared for whatever comes next."

"Think we could take a break, Goku?" Rubble asked when he sat up. Goku nodded and said, "Yeah. You guys did really well with that exercise. You've definitely earned some time to relax."

"Thanks." All seven Pups said before shakily rising to their feet. They walked to the Lookout just when Ryder came out. The boy could see that all seven of the Pups were looking a little tired and asked, "You guys sure worked hard."

"Yep." Everest nodded with a slightly tired look in her eyes. Goku looked to Ryder and asked, "Care to help me get them some water. It's always important to stay hydrated."

"Good advice. And sure thing." Ryder said and the two went to round up the Pups' bowls.

When the two had disappeared into the tower to get the water, all seven of the Pups looked down the driveway to see a car pulling in. Rocky stood up and recognized the car, "Hey, that's Mayor Goodway's car."

"What do you think is happening?" Marshall asked just when the car came to a stop. The door opened and Mayor Goodway stepped out. Before shutting the door she grabbed a blue purse. She shut the door to her car and a white chicken's head popped out of the purse and squawked and looked about. The Mayor had a smile on her face as she walked up to the seven Pups. But when she saw how exhausted they looked she said, "My goodness, you Pups sure look tired today."

"That we are, Mayor Goodway." Skye nodded in agreement. Then she asked, "Is everything okay?"

"Hm?" Mayor Goodway asked. But then she waved it off and said, "Oh, yes. Everything is just fine. I just dropped by to ask you all and Ryder to see if you would join in a Christmas show that I have planned a few days before Christmas."

"What kind of show?" Rubble asked just when Goku and Ryder came back out with bowls of water sitting on their arms. Goku lowered his arms and said, "Here you go, guys."

"Thanks, Goku." Chase said as the seven walked over. Ryder set his bowls down before noticing the mayor and said, "Good to see you, Mayor Goodway."

"And you as well, Ryder." Mayor Goodway waved back. Ryder then asked, "How can we help you?"

"Oh, there's no problems at the moment today, Ryder." Mayor Goodway said in good spirits. Then she said, "I was just stopping by to see if you all would take part in a special Christmas show."

"Hm, that could be fun." Ryder said. Looking to the Pups he asked, "What do you guys think?"

"It does sound like a good way to celebrate." Chase agreed when he raised his head from the bowl. But glancing to Goku he said, "But only if it's okay with our teacher."

"It shouldn't be too much of a problem." Goku said, not thinking much about it. With a shrug he said, "I mean, if we were a bit behind in your training, then it would be a bit of a problem. But you guys are doing well, so it won't hurt to have fun when this thing rolls around."

"Thanks, Goku." All Pups said, happy to be able to join in the fun. Mayor Goodway looked to Goku and asked, "Would you care to participate in the show as well, Son Goku?"

"Just Goku is fine. And gee, I don't know." Goku said and crossed his arms. With a shake of his head he said, "I don't exactly have anything that a talent show requires."

"Oh, don't be modest, Goku." Mayor Goodway waved off. Goku thought about it a little and said, "I guess that I could try it with you guys."

"Wonderful!" Mayor Goodway happily exclaimed. She turned to walk back to her car and said, "I'll let you know when we have a proper date for the show."

"Can't wait, Mayor Goodway." Ryder said as they all waved her goodbye.

(End of flashback)

"If you guys were just flashbacking, you know I couldn't see any of that, right?" Wild Cat said, snapping them out of their thoughts. The group laughed a little and Goku then asked, "By the way, are you keeping up with your training, Wild Cat?"

"Yep. Between shows and when I get the time." Wild Cat nodded. Goku smiled and said, "Just had to make sure. I can tell that you've gotten stronger."

"Yeah." Chase agreed while most of the others nodded. Rubble then shouted, "Come on! Enough chit-chat. Let's keep on decorating this tree!"

Another round of laughter went through the group. Everyone picked up another ornament from the box. Ryder then suggested, "How about we add a song?"

"That sounds good." Wild Cat agreed. Ryder started it off by singing…

Ryder: Deck the Halls with Christmas treasure

Goku: Uh, Fa-la-la-la-la

Ryder, Wild Cat and the Pups all laughed from this but kept going with the song…

Ryder: Every pup and lab and shepherd

Wild Cat and Pups: Fa-la-la-la-la/Arf-Arf-Arf-Arf

They kept on decorating the tree and helped each other out. Marshall ended up tripping over his paws and the ornament flew out of his mouth. Wild Cat acted quickly by jumping onto the Dalmatians back before twisting to lightly kick the ornament to the tree with his back paw. Everyone was impressed when the ornament bounced off the tree a little before catching onto a branch.

Ryder: All the joy the season's bringing

Goku, Wild Cat and Pups: Fa-la-la-la-la/Arf-Arf-Arf-Arf

Ryder took out a Christmas star for the top of the tree. Goku moved to help him by lifting the boy up and Ryder was able to place the star. Setting the boy down, they all finished when Ryder and Goku sang…

Ryder and Goku: Join us in our Christmas singing

Wild Cat and Pups: Fa-la-la-la-la/Arf-Arf-Arf-Arf

Everyone took a step back to admire their handy work of the tree. The ornaments cast a beautiful shine in the sunlight that made the tree sparkle. Goku looked to Ryder and asked, "So, what exactly is this routine that you have planned?"

"Oh, just something a little simple." Ryder shrugged, not wanting to give too much away. Wild Cat suddenly looked a little bummed and said, "It's too bad that I can't be in the show. It's probably too late for me to sign up, huh?"

"What if you did something with Daring Danny X?" Rocky suggested. Even Rubble thought it was a good idea, "Yeah, he said that his routine could probably be done with two people, Pups or kitties."

"That's a great idea!" Wild Cat said, really excited. Then he realized, "I better hurry up and go find him. Got to get up to speed if I want to know what he's doing and how I can contribute to it."

"See you later, Wild Cat." Ryder said as the cat ran back to his motorcycle.

Author's Note: The next chapter we're going to be seeing a place of magic and wonder. That's right; the North Pole. After all, since Christmas is in danger, we need to see what the problem is.
