Author's Note: Hell everyone, here we are with chapter two. I had to change up some things greatly, and I rewrote the first chapter. Please do check it out before you read the second one. Without further ado, let us begin.
Chapter Two- The Aftermath
She had no idea where she was. All that she knew was that she was running, running to who knows where. All around her there were explosions, the smell of corpses, and the screams of the living crying out for their loved ones. She kept running and running, trying to find a way to escape the carnage.
As she continued to run, she suddenly tripped, falling to the ground. She got up to see corpses lying around her and saw the corpse of the woman who she saved before. She also saw the reason for the explosions; a man and a woman were fighting it out all over the city, and then the battle had ended with the woman claiming victory.
She had pierced the man's chest and watched as he fell to the ground; his body lifeless. The woman he was fighting suddenly picked up his body and cradled it to her heart as she kissed his forehead. The woman looked straight at her, and to her horror, Kara realized she was staring at herself.
There were tears coming down the eyes of her other self, as her eyes glowed red and she launched it at her.

Kara woke up in a harsh cold sweat, as she was trying to catch her breath. She looked around as she realized she was sleeping inside her sister's apartment in the city. Her sister's building was one of the handful buildings that had miraculously avoided any major damage whatsoever.
She somehow managed to find her way to her sister's apartment, as she was given a spare key by Alex to use the apartment anytime she was in town. Her sister had gotten a job in National City; a job that Kara still did not truly know the about.
After all the carnage and chaos had passed, and the screams had quieted down, she forced herself to go the hospital and check on Lena Luthor. She was in the ICU, hooked up to machines, as doctors were doing their work and assessing all the damage done to her body. She also passed by the many people who were injured, the many bodies ready to be sent to the morgue, and people crying and lamenting over the loss of their loved ones.
Using her super-hearing, she tried to figure out what the doctors were trying to say about Lena. To her utmost sorrow and horror, she learned that there was damage done to her reproductive system, and that it would be difficult for her to have a child, at all.
From a corner, she could see Lena sobbing horribly, patting her stomach, and just screaming into a pillow; she could no longer be there. She ignored everyone else in the hospital and wordlessly, she made her way to Alex's apartment and discarded her clothes and took a long shower. After drying herself off, she put on her same clothes, and fell asleep in Alex's bed, sobbing painfully at what happened to Lena, that she was responsible for the damage she suffered. She screamed into the bed and lamented the damage that had occurred that day, and how powerless she was to stop it.
She remembered Alex and Clark's warning; to never expose herself and what she could do. She knew they were afraid they would lose themselves, but now what was she to do? Clark was gone, swallowed up by a portal and sent to Rao knows where. The world just got a real taste of what aliens were capable of doing. And now, anti-alien sentiment and non-human sentiment would reach a crescendo the likes of which no one would ever see end.
She had no idea if any of it was worth it. She was now completely afraid and worried as to what was going to happen. The House of El was a house of hope, but with the terrible events that occurred, was she capable of keeping hope inside of her?
If she had done something, maybe Kal would still be with her. Maybe the damage would be kept to a minimum. Maybe, things would have been better. Alas, she would never know now the outcome. She lost her cousin, the purpose to which she was sent to Earth. Earth was not ready for a Kryptonian, it was not yet ready for a symbol.
And after yesterday's events, she was not sure it if would ever be ready. The DEO and those who hated non-humans, now had ammunition. Yesterday's events would live in infamy. And she was sure, that the blonde-haired man would become Earth's number one priority for capture or death. She was sure the government would want that man alive. The things that he could do, she was sure those abilities would become valuable to anyone.
Now, Alex and Kal's warning rang true for her. She had no idea where metahuman prisoners were kept, and she did not want to know. She was afraid now more than ever. She lost Krypton, her friends and family. And now she lost Kal and her purpose. She did not want to lose Alex, Eliza, and Jeremiah. She would keep her identity safe. No matter how much resentment she felt, she could not lose the bonds she had left.
She was shaken out of her musings when her cell phone rang. She looked at the screen and it was Alex on the line. She was dreading this conversation for sure. She had to tell Alex the truth about revealing her abilities and about Lena Luthor; Rao, that would be fun.

Kara was busy having breakfast as Alex knocked on her door furiously. Kara opened the door and saw Alex rush into the room, pacing the floor.
"Alex, I am fine."
Alex simply hugged her as fiercely as she could.
"Kara, I was so worried. The explosions, I thought something…"
"I am fine, Alex. Really, I am. Sit down and have breakfast with me."
Alex nodded as the two sisters ate in silence. However, the silence was getting to Kara. She just could not tolerate it anymore and decided to turn on the TV. On the TV, she saw a rally held in National City being hosted by presidential candidate Baker who was galvanizing the people. Kara knew what it was about.
Baker was rallying the crowd about the events that occurred a day before. About how aliens and metahumans were nothing but a threat and menace to society.
"Do you see it my brothers and sisters, do you see it now? I can understand. We show kindness and sympathy to others, show them hospitality and the goodness of humanity. And what did we get in return? The deaths of our loved ones. Aliens came to our planet and took away our peace, and the things we value the most. This is a world for humanity…, not oddities and abominations of nature."
"I promise you, these aliens and meta humans will be captured and imprisoned. They will be hunted down and destroyed. We will find them and learn what makes them tick. And form what we learn, we will have a way to fight them. This is our world, not theirs. Stand with me my brothers and sisters, for a world meant for only humanity."
"If elected I assure you, you will never suffer like that again. I will create a new law that will register and punish these people for what they have done."
There was thunderous applause and cheers as the people at that rally were singing Baker's praises. People were marching out in the streets with posters and banners, explicitly saying no to metahuman and aliens and to go back where they came from. There was also people who were being interviewed.
"Look, I used to show sympathy for these people. And look what I got in return. A dead family. I cannot even… bury them. There is nothing left of them, you get that! I want them gone. It is time they learn what suffering is."
Kara turned off the TV, sick to her stomach as to what she was hearing. She spun the remote around in her hand, and launched it like a bullet at the TV, shattering it into pieces, as Alex sighed.
"This is how democracy dies Alex, with thunderous applause."
Kara simply sighed as she polished off the rest of her breakfast and went to wash the dishes. She sighed heavily as she threw the dishes to the ground in anger. Alex went to place her hand on her shoulder, but she shrugged it off as she went to sit on the sofa, clutching a pillow to her chest.
"I am sorry, Alex…I"
"Kara, I get it, I do."
"No, Alex, you don't. You don't get that I saw corpses all around me as I watched people die begging for mercy and screaming for their loved ones. I saw people praying to whatever deity they worshiped, as they were vaporized in the carnage. And I stood there, powerless to do anything."
"I saw a child holding a dead parent, a man buried underneath rubble, a man in a building praying to see his family again. Alex…, you can't understand how that feels."
There was silence in the room, as the two woman were thinking about what happened.
"Alex…, you don't deserve that. I am sorry…, I just… I feel weak and pathetic, that I cannot do anything to help anyone. I am sorry, I never meant to take it out on you."
"No Kara…, it is I who should owe you an apology. I know how you feel. You lost your home and your family, and it was such a challenge for you to adopt to a new world. I wish I was a bit more understanding, I could have helped to make things better."
"Your powers and abilities; they are a part of your identity. Maybe, if we gave you the confidence you needed, never held you back; maybe you could have made a difference in the city. At least, there would not be so much damage. I am sorry, we have held you back…"
Kara looked at Alex in shock. "No Alex, you have never held me back. Yes, it was not easy for me to adjust, but I never ever thought how you felt. You had someone new come into your life, someone who uprooted your life. And, you lost the attention of your parents so quickly and I am sorry about that."
"However, you are right. The world isn't ready for someone like me. Whatever the outcome of yesterday's events, metahuman and aliens are in a for a rough time. I don't know what they are doing to those people, but I truly don't want to know. I am afraid of what would happen to you, and mom and dad if I came out and owned my abilities. You were right all along. For my own safety, I need to stay hidden, and in the shadows. You and Kal were right. I lost him, I cannot lose anything else."
Alex held her hand gently, and Kara returned the gesture, wiping a tear from her eye.
"Alex, there is something I need to tell you. One, I have to find that guy who was fighting that woman."
"Kara, no. That is dangerous. We don't know what he can do. He is public enemy number one. If you go searching for him, I don't know what could happen. Leave that to the authorities anyways. I am sure they will find him, and we can get answers. However, I think there is more you want to say."
"I had to use my abilities."
"KARA!"
"Alex, I was careful. I am sure no one followed me or saw me do anything."
"What about her - the person you saved did he or she see you use your power?" Alex asked
Kara silence and biting on her lip told Alex everything she needed to know.
"What is the name?" Alex demanded to know a staring contest started which Kara ultimately lost and with lowered head mumbled
"Lena, Lena Luthor."
Kara was reaching for a jacket and only a soft touch on her arm by Kara stopped her.
"Alex, that woman, Lena Luthor…, I overhead the doctors. She lost the ability to have children because of me. I…, I ruined her life Alex."
Kara could no longer take it, and just started crying. Alex wrapped an arm around her and let her cry. Her sister had endured so much in the past 24 hours.
"Kara, you did not ruin her life, you saved her. That is more than enough. You are not God or Rao, take it easy okay."
She heard about Lena Luthor. A black sheep of her family, and a woman with a good heart. She would not bother the woman, but she would try to talk to her. At least, get her to understand what she saw. She hoped Lena would forget about it all. She had to protect Kara.
She was a big sister. She promised Kara she would not hurt Lena, and that was that. However, it would not hurt to find out what she learned and what Lena Luthor saw. Her expression changed from kind to cold again. Despite everything, she valued and loved Kara greatly. And she would protect her, no matter the cost.
If only Kara knew who she worked for, what she was recruited for. Kara lived with her blinders on. What would she do, when they came off? Would she lose her sister then?
And what about that blonde-haired man?
