It was the big day. The day that Dagon would choose his mate for the year.
Every year, since his last mate Juno died, he has mated with Ishara. She earned her status as alpha female by sending the rest of the females running from Dagon. Dagon hated it, but he allowed it, since Ishara was the youngest of her brood and didn't get a chance to win battles very often.
This year, however, it would be different. She had the gall to try and fight his son, Gojira, Dagon's pride and joy.
Such an action would not go unpunished.
The females gathered before him. Most of them did not make eye contact, for doing so would anger Ishara. The alpha female herself stood at the front of the group, her spines flashing blue in a mating display. Dagon was dazzled, but he would not be taking her, today.
He walked right past her, signaling to his sons that she was not his choice for the year. Gojira and his brothers did as their father wished and stood between Ishara and Dagon, giving their father the chance to make a fresh start.
Dagon rumbled at the dumbstruck females, telling them to give him their best mating displays. One by one, they did as he asked, each female flashing her spines in a beautiful pattern.
Ishara was angered at them, and at Dagon. She tried to fight through Gojira and Heracles, but they stood strong and pushed her away. As high as she was before, she wasn't an alpha anymore.
Dagon saw each female give him their best. He admired each and every one of them, but one caught his eye out of all of them.
Thetis' spines glowed a gorgeous green color that dazzled him to no end. Dagon walked up to her and rubbed his snout along her head, telling her that she was his choice.
The emerald-born lizard submissively bowed her head to him, accepting his choice. He led her away to the forest, where the magical moment would take place.
Ishara screamed as she ran into Gojira, desperate to make Dagon pay for throwing her aside. Gojira growled in anger and threw her into a sand bar. Heracles and Apollos joined their brother and put Ishara in her place.
However, Atlas would not stand by and watch his mother be shamed like this.
The much smaller reptile tried to topple Gojira onto his side, but Dagon's firstborn was far stronger and much heavier. The Prince of the Monsters threw his half-brother into the same sand bar that he threw Ishara into.
Gojira saw the sky brightening as Gigamoth arrived with her larvae, Mothra and Battra. They had heard the sounds of struggle, but Gojira assured them that he was fine, as were his brothers.
Gigamoth was the closest thing to a mother Gojira had since his mother died. He cared for her greatly, and saw her offspring as siblings, as did his brothers.
Gojira picked up Mothra and let her crawl on his body. He nudged Battra playfully with his snout.
The playfulness was interrupted when Dagon and Thetis returned from the forest. Gigamoth chirped her approval of Dagon's choice, and Dagon nodded his head to accept her approval.
A loud screeching was heard as a massive red claw rose from the nearby sea. It was followed by the body of a giant, red prawn. Ebirah had come to interfere in Dagon's mating ritual.
The King would not let it slide.
Dagon grabbed Ebirah by the claw and twisted it. Ebirah screamed and tried to fight back, but Gojira grabbed the other claw. Father and son fought the giant crustacean with precision and agility that surprised even Gojira's brothers.
The Prince got the final blow with a burst of his Atomic Breath. Ebirah screamed in pain and retreated, having learned not to mess with Dagon and Gojira.
The two reptiles took a moment to embrace each other, Dagon nuzzling his son's head, while Gojira wrapped his arm around his father's midsection.
The two pulled back for a moment before rearing their heads up in tremulous roars, warning the foolhardy to stay away from them and their family.
