Chapter VI
Megaguirus attacked Quetzalcoatl with her huge bladed forelimbs. The Feathered Serpent's metallic feathers protected him from serious harm, but the sheer force of the impact caused him to screech in pain. The Queen Meganulon tried to attack again, but Quetzalcoatl smacked her in the side with his long, feathery tail. Megaguirus, despite being large enough to cause a Titan harm, was still much smaller than Quetzalcoatl.
The Serpent started to coil around Megaguirus, pinning her wings and legs to her body. Her abdomen, however, was free and she stabbed the spikes into Quetzalcoatl's stomach. Quetzalcoatl screamed and released Megaguirus, only for her to latch onto his chest and pummel at it. Quetzalcoatl was losing energy, due to the venom that Megaguirus had injected into his bloodstream. It was breaking down his blood sugar (or the Titan equivalent of such) into useless molecules.
Quetzalcoatl used as much strength as he could to fire his pressurized breath at Megaguirus. Her wings caught the gust and threw her into the air. Exhausted and desperate to cleanse his system, the Feathered Serpent collapsed and fell unconscious. Megaguirus sought to seize this opportunity and dove in for the killing blow.
She was thrown off-course by a pair of powerful jaws.
Roc slammed the Queen into the ground and started to shake her head, a move that, if prolonged, could sever Megaguirus' spine. The Queen jabbed her legs against Roc's body and pried herself out of the avian's grasp.
Megaguirus didn't get much of a chance to fly away before Rodan dove in and snapped her up in his talons. His grasp was like a vice, crushing her armor with little regard. The Queen flapped her wings to throw Rodan off-balance, and he released his grip on her in the panic induced by potentially hitting the ground. However, Roc quickly followed up by colliding with Megaguirus and sending the Queen Meganulon to the ground.
Megaguirus immediately flapped her wings and ascended to the air to fight Rodan. The avian roared in anger and slashed his talons against her thorax. She cried out in pain, but remained airborne. She attempted to retaliate with her bladed legs, but Rodan dodged the attack easily. Using his razor-sharp beak, he snapped a bladed foot off of one of the Queen's forelimbs.
Pained and enraged, Megaguirus used her remaining blades to slice a hole in Rodan's wing. The fiery blood poured from his wound as he fell to the ground, screaming in pain.
To avenge her mate, Roc flew in and slammed into Megaguirus so hard, a sonic boom rippled across the sky. Such a blow could potentially kill Megaguirus, but she held her own and dealt one last blow.
She jabbed her tail into Roc's abdomen.
Her strength fleeing her rapidly, Roc flew back down to her mate. His molten blood had hardened and closed his wound, but he was in a lot of pain from his crash landing. Roc, believing the threat gone, laid down next to him and started to doze off.
However, Megaguirus was still alive, and was crawling toward the fallen pair. Her cracked armor was just barely keeping her body together, but she was convinced that she could steal some of Rodan's fluids to heal herself.
Believing his mate in danger, the Fire Demon weakly stood over the sleeping form of his beloved. He chirruped angrily at Megaguirus, but she ignored his threats. She thought she could subdue him and suck him dry.
She thought wrong.
An explosion caused the armor on her shoulder to shatter. Megaguirus looked toward the sea and saw the United Nations' navy aiming their turrets at her. She raised her wings in preparation to eliminate her enemies, but she would never get the chance.
Rodan leaped onto the Queen and gripped her tightly in his talons. The sheer force of his grip and his superior weight shattered what was left of her armor. Weakly, she fought back, but his own armor was thick and flexible.
Rodan flew upwards with Megaguirus in his talons, taking care not to dislodge the scab over his wound. After lifting her up far enough, he let her slip through his claws and tore her wings as she fell. The navy locked their missiles on her and fired as many rounds they could.
When the dust settled from her impact, Megaguirus was still alive, albeit barely. The glow in her eyes was very weak, and her fleshly body was unable to support her body. Rodan landed right next to her, and grabbed her head with his beak.
He ripped it off in one fluid motion, and he swallowed it whole.
With the threat gone and his mate alive, Rodan roared to the heavens in victory. A roar that caught the attention of passers by.
"On Rodan and Roc's behalf, thanks for the assist, Admiral," Jon said.
"Thank the senators," Stenz replied. "They decided that Megaguirus was the more important threat. It took all my diplomatic skills to persuade them."
"Well, thank you for the effort, Admiral," Stanton said.
"All this diplomacy has me convinced that I can't work in the Navy anymore. Have any room for me on the G-Team?"
Jon smiled. "Always room for one more, Stenz. I'll have Barnes speak with you when you come aboard."
Stenz returned the smile, before an alarm drew his attention elsewhere.
"We have more Titans inbound," he stated. "Shall we ready the turrets?"
"Don't fire," Kashiwagi said. "We need to know their intentions first."
Rodan looked over the sea, and saw creatures landing on the outskirts of the volcano.
Boreas and Ran walked up the mountain, having been attracted by the noises that the Meganula were making.
Zephyrus, the stork-like Titan of Spring, walked beside them after being awakened by the battle.
Notus, the falconid Titan of summer storms, flew in for a smooth landing. He was interested in who had killed Megeguirus.
Finally, Quetzalcoatl woke up with a groan. He was starved of nutrition, but he needed to do one thing before he could eat more Meganula.
He bowed to Rodan, being followed by Notus, Zephyrus, Ran, and Boreas.
Rodan was confused by what they were doing, but he soon realized that they were swearing allegiance to him. They were now members of his flock.
And he looked forward to leading it alongside his mate.
