Chapter 5
Dean woke up or well he decided to leave the bed since he had been up for hours as he didn't sleep at all last night in fear of hurting Sam in his sleep. He took a quick shower and got dressed and then settled himself in the chair at the corner of the room to write in his journal. It was only four in the morning so it wasn't a surprise that John and Sam were still asleep. His mood was sour and his head was throbbing as if someone was banging nails inside it.
Updating his journal with new information after each hunt was one of the many habits ingrained in him by his father, Thomas Griffin Colt. And he was glad for that because keeping the record of every new thing he had learnt during a hunt helps him to save his time in avoiding doing research for the same things in the future. As he was writing his journal his mind drifted off to the thoughts of his family. His family was one of the founding families of the hunter community. They were the first to acknowledge the presence of supernatural monsters who bump in the night. A large part of the supernatural world that is known by the hunters of today is due to the journals left by his ancestors. But still nobody knows about Dean even though his grandfather was a great hunter if not a great person who is known by almost everyone among the hunting community and well his father , he was a different story altogether. His father was one of the best hunters and for Dean he will always be. But he made a mistake of falling in love with a civilian who had no ties whatsoever with hunting and the hunters. His grandfather is a stubborn , egoistic bastard who had and still has a great control over most of the hunting community and who gave his dad a choice to either leave his mother or get disowned. His father chose his mother and left his family name but continued to hunt and his mother gradually started adjusting to being a hunter's wife. She never hunted. A few years later after their marriage, Dean was born. His dad taught him all he knew about the monsters , hunting , his grandfather and their epic fight the news of which spread like a fire amongst the hunting community , his family name , weapons , lores and Dean soak it all. But he never thought that he would have to hunt alone. He always thought that he would have his dad by his side. Sometimes when he closes his eyes at night he could just see his mother burning on the ceiling of that warehouse and no matter how hard he tries he could never forget that. Only if his dad hadn't left for that hunt his parents would be alive. Only if the hunting community hadn't boycotted his father in fear of being on the receiving end of the wrath of the great Bonham Matthew Colt , his grandfather , his parents would be alive or atleast his mother would be. He hated Bonham Colt with a passion intense enough to freeze the hell. He hated the demon that killed his parents. He hated most of the hunting community who works on the directions of Bonham. That is the reason he was under the radar , hiding his identity for so long. He didn't want people to know about him that he was a Colt even a disowned one because if they would then they would tell about him to Bonham and he feared that he would just kill the bastard if he ever meet him. That is why he was just Dean , that is why he didn't tell anyone his real name of 'Dean Michael Colt'. And then there was a secret darker than night that he carries within himself that he didn't want anybody to find out. That secret was the reason he was wary of getting attached to anyone. And now he had decided to hunt with John and Sam. He would just have to make sure that no-one get to know about him. He would keep his past as separate as possible because he would be damned if he get the Winchesters hurt because of him. He will just be Dean with no business whatsoever with the Colt name as he had been since the past years. He didn't want to die before hunting the demon that killed his parents and if that secret got out along with his real identity then…
"Dean … Dean ?" Sam frowned when Dean didn't answer and he called his name again and this time a little louder which caused John to wake up with a groan from the next bed. It seemed like Dean was lost in a deep thought. He looked pale and he was also sweating a little.
"Uh ?" Dean was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't even realise when Sam called his name until the kid had to shook his shoulders to get his attention.
"You alright ?" Sam asked. God , they had to stop asking him that. He wasn't alright but if he was honest with himself then who was nowadays. Everyone's got their own baggage , his was just a little , okay a fucking lot heavier.
"You guys need to stop asking me that." Dean grumbled pushing himself from the chair he was sitting on. He made his way to his duffel to safely put away his journal. It was one of the only two things his parents had left him with and both of them were pretty close to him. He would protect them with his life if he had to.
"Hey , you were the one zoning out on us." Sam replied stretching his arms above his head while wondering about what was that Dean was thinking about that made him so tensed for a moment back there.
"Okay. Since its only 6 and we all are up. We can make an early start on the road. We can reach Bobby by 8." John said after a moment when Dean didn't say anything.
Dean cleared his throat and said , "Yeah about that. I am not going with you two to this Bobby guy's house. I am gonna stay here."
"What ? Why ?" Sam asked standing in shock from the bed he was sitting on packing his meagre belongings.
"I don't know him. I would feel more comfortable staying in a no name motel than at some dude's house that I ain't know from Adam." Dean said shrugging his shoulders.
"Bobby is a nice guy , kid. A little rough around the edges but a damn good hunter with an even bigger heart." John said in an effort to convince Dean to come to Bobby's. He hadn't had a chance to talk to Bobby about Dean but he was sure that Bobby wouldn't mind Dean staying with them at his house once he meet the kid. And Dean would also like Bobby too if he meet the man. Any other time and Sam would be recording his dad saying all those nice things about his uncle Bobby and then probably he would be blackmailing him about it later but now wasn't the time.
"The point is I don't know him and I don't want to." Dean said plopping down on the bed and stretching his body until his head rested against the headboard. He could feel his temper beginning to rise. His lack of sleep , his throbbing head and now this argument wasn't helping the matters at all.
"But uncle Bobby is really nice. You will really like him. Please Dean." Sam said sitting besides Dean on the bed and pulling out his puppy dog expression while John just started packing his stuff because in the past only Sam was the one able to convince Dean. And if Dean wasn't listening to Sam , he was sure as hell wouldn't listen to him.
"I will be here. I ain't going anywhere. You guys can go. Though I will drop you off since your dad still can't drive." Dean said without looking at Sam because he would sure as hell cave in if he takes one look at the kicked puppy expression the kid is now putting on to get his way.
Sam sighed and Dean thought that the kid had finally dropped the argument but only a second later he continued , "But you don't have to be here in this shitty motel room. If you don't meet him then how will you get to know him. Comeon , Dean. Please , please , please –"
"Enough !" Dean shouted cutting Sam off. And Sam flinched.
"I don't want to go , damnit. Why can't you understand that ? No means no." Dean said his voice still a lot louder. He was already in a bad mood partially due to lack of sleep and partially due to thinking about his parents , that demon and Bonham. And without meaning to he let it out all on Sam. Now seeing the kid looking all hurt and sad because of him. He just wants to kick himself preferably while wearing iron boots.
Sam was feeling hurt. A lot hurt. More than he ever felt whenever his dad shouted at him. He was just trying Dean to come over at Bobby's. He was doing that because it would be nice for Dean to get a home-cooked meal and stay away from these motels atleast for a while. And okay , he was also thinking that this way they just could hangout a bit. And maybe get to know eachother. Also there was a tiny part of him that feared that Dean would take off once he and his dad leave for Bobby's. But Dean didn't have to yell at him. God , Sam was really a girl because he could just feel his eyes watering. He blinked rapidly to stop the tears because that would be fucking embarrassing.
"Lets go , Sammy." John said coming besides Sam. Sam wasn't in the mood to even grouch about his dad using 'Sammy' instead of 'Sam'.
"Sam… I.." Dean said as John and Sam started their way towards the door with their duffels in hand only to be cut off with a glare from John.
"Save it." John replied through clenched teeth. His son could be a little overwhelming with the people he likes. Dean doesn't want to come , fine but he has no right yelling at Sam.
"Let me drive you , guys." Dean said with a voice a lot quieter than earlier and he felt like more of a world-class jerk when Sam didn't even look at him and just left the room quietly. He hurts people and that is why he doesn't deserve anyone.
"We can manage. You enjoy your stay here." John said before picking the car keys from the nightstand and leaving the room slamming the door behind him. He had also left Bobby's address that he had written on a small slip on the table near the door in the hopes that Dean would change his mind.

Bobby was in the kitchen making his famous chili. He had gotten a call from John earlier that he and Sam are coming to stay for a few days. John as usual didn't say much on the phone but he sounded a little pissed. Maybe he and Sam had gotten into an argument again. Their arguments were increasing day by day and Bobby wondered what was it this time about. Over the last few years the Winchesters have become like a family to him. And though he would have to once again sort out whatever the fight the senior and junior Winchester had going on he wouldn't trade it for the world. John was like a little brother for him more like a pain in the ass little brother. And Sam was like a son to him. He may calls John paranoid but in truth he was no different when it comes to Sam's safety. He didn't have kids but if he ever had one he would want his son to be just like Sam. He was pulled out of his thoughts with a 'ding' sound from his oven. He had made choco chip cookies for Sam which he knew the kid likes. Just as he was setting the tray to cool down on the counter he heard the now very familiar rumble of the Impala coming from his driveway. He wiped his hands and made his way out.
John got out of the car with a slight wince. Maybe he should have taken Dean on the offer of driving them. Or maybe not. Since his son was looking like someone had kicked his puppy. Sam doesn't get this sad even when they argue which happens a lot and their arguments are normally a lot intense. John had tried uplifting his mood during the drive but Sam hadn't said anything. And after a while of getting no response , he had given up.
"Johnny." Bobby said greeting John with a nod. He noticed John leaning on his side. The idjit must have gotten hurt. He would take a look.
"Its John , Bobby." John muttered taking his duffel which only a moment later Sam snatched from him to avoid him putting any more pressure on his side than he already had with the driving.
"Ya ya. So you say. How're ya kiddo ?" Bobby said waving his hand dismissively at John and turning his attention towards the younger Winchester.
Sam didn't reply just moved past Bobby and stormed into the house. Bobby raised his eyebrows and looked at John. That was very not like Sam. The kid always greets him no matter what fight he had going on with his daddy at that moment.
"What did you do this time ? I ain't seen him like that before." Bobby asked John.
"Hey , I didn't do anything. It was Dean." John said walking towards the house with Bobby.
Bobby thought of anyone named Dean they knew but he came up empty.
"Who is Dean ?" He asked John with a hint of steel in his voice. Whomever this Dean was must have hurt Sam for him to behave like that. He wanted to know about this Dean and what did he do to Sam. But the strange part was the way John said Dean's name. If it was someone who had hurt his son John wouldn't say his name so casually with only an undercurrent of anger. John looked pissed but not that pissed. He looked like he always did after his fight with Sam or him.
"It's a long story." John replied taking a seat on the ugly red couch in centre of Bobby's living room stretching his legs in front of him.
"The chili needs more time to cook." Bobby said shrugging and taking out his first aid box and gesturing John to lift his shirt before settling himself besides him on the couch.

A/N : Thank you to all those who reviewed. Also , I want to ask if you guys know someone who would be interested to be beta for me. If you know please let me know. I know that I make grammar and punctuation errors but I try my best since English is not my first language. Thank you for everyone for being patient with me.
Please keep reviewing. It keeps me motivated to write more.
I want you guys to know a little about my AU to help you understand it better. First is John in this story will be more like a father than a drill sergeant. I don't like him treating boys like his little soldiers especially Dean in the series. Though I know he loved them. Second , a little about the hunting community in my AU. Bonham Matthew Colt is a famous hunter who has a great influence over the hunting community not all of it but a majority. His word is like a law. He is a ruthless man and no hunter want to be his enemy by going against him. All the other hunters listen to him and respect him. Dean is a Colt. Every hunter knows about the Colts. But no one knows about Dean being a Colt since his father was disowned and was boycotted by other hunters on the instructions of Bonham. Bonham doesn't know about Dean and Dean hates him. Why he hates him ? You gotta wait for that. And if you already have an idea then excellent. Thats all you need to know for now. It will be my first time writing about a character that I created like Bonham so I am a little excited.
