Chapter I
Cape Cod, Massachusetts
After seven months of pain, knowing that half the population was gone, the Historical Society decided to set the old whaling ships loose and have them act as whale-watching ships. Their timing couldn't be better, as a pod of gray whales was in the Cape.
Among the watchers was a Monarch archaeologist, known as Henry Jones. He had a fondness for history, even if it was deplorable to the general populace. Something about how the past still spoke to us fascinated him.
The whales swam alongside the ships, showing off their flukes and rolling around playfully. The people on board cheered and gawked at their behavior. Henry just found it pleasing.
In the distance, he saw a pod of sharks swimming along the coastline. They were most likely looking for whale calves or sick individuals. They weren't getting anywhere close with a pod of whales this size.
Instead of watching the whales, Henry followed the sharks. They swam almost parallel to the whales, likely intending to rush in and separate the pod.
Suddenly, the sharks split up, and were replaced by a fin that was comparable in size to the ship Henry was on. Another appeared a few yards behind, along with another further behind.
Henry's eyes went wide.
"We need to turn around," he said.
The Titans swam towards the whale pod, intent on eating. It had been so long since they had a decent-sized meal, and now, they had a chance.
The one in the back was like a hammerhead shark. It's head was wide and shaped like a double-sided hammer, with it's eyes on either end. It's nostrils were in the center of it's wide head, and had stripes that extended to it's mouth. It's body was covered in bony scales that served to protect it's organs from serious harm.
The one in center was very similar to a mako shark, except for the extremely long upper tail lobe that resembled a thresher shark's tail. It's dorsal and pectoral fins were very long, like the oceanic whitetip shark. This shark Titan also had a split jaw that could open to swallow shoals of fish whole.
The Titan in front was the largest and most dangerous. It was originally a megalodon, but after a fight with the White Whale, it began to mutate. Eventually, it developed the ability to consume radiation as a food source. Along with this ability, it grew bony protrusions along it's fins and eye sockets.
These shark Titans split up and began to snap the whales up in their jaws, eating like they had no reservations. Whales and smaller fish fell victim to the feeding frenzy of the sharks.
After eating a whale, the megalodon took notice of the ships. It saw the tiny creatures that stood on top of them, and thought that, if there were so many people on board, then it must be a delectable meal.
As such, it dove into the dark depths of the Cape, before rapidly swimming back up and leaping out of the water with a ship in it's mouth. It crushed the wood between it's jaws like it was twigs, and found that the ship was simply hollow. Disappointed, the shark used it's echolocation abilities to scan the other ships, and found them similarly hollow, except for one, where all the humans had gone into the hold.
The megalodon readied itself for another attack, before launching itself at the ship. However, it was thrown off-course by a set of powerful jaws.
Henry felt the powerful vibrations of the shark Titan as it brushed past the ship. He watched as the shark was thrown out of the ocean by another creature.
This newcomer was more like a sperm whale, albeit white and utilizing teeth on both jaws. It had two pairs of eyes, and when it splashed into the Cape with the shark in it's mouth, Henry saw that it had two pairs of flippers.
Suddenly, the boat was thrown into the air. Henry only caught a glimpse of the thresher shark Titan before he landed in the water.
The archaeologist blinked the salt water out of his eyes and swam to meet the growing group of survivors. They were chattering in fear, some screaming for help.
A lone fin appeared next to them. At first, Henry thought it was one of the sharks, but it made no threatening moves. It was also much darker and smoother, like a killer whale's fin.
"Everyone, calm down!" Henry yelled to the panicking people. "He's not going to hurt us! He's not even a shark!"
This was confirmed when a loud clicking was heard. It sounded like a killer whale's echolocation calls, but it was significantly louder.
Another fin, which definitely belonged a shark, approached the group, but the orca scared it off with a loud whistle. When the whale returned, it rolled to it's side to look at the people. Like the sperm whale, it had two pairs of eyes, but it didn't look like it had two pairs of flippers. The people cheered for their savior, and the orca opened it's mouth and squeaked happily.
Before long, a Monarch Osprey lowered to the group and extended a ladder. The people climbed up the ladder, while the orca stayed on guard. Henry was the last one on, and the orca finally swam off to do whatever he pleased.
"Dr. Jones?" the pilot called out. "The Gotengo and the Argo are on their way! Dr. Hudson has requested your presence on the Gotengo!"
