Chapter 6: Scientific minds
AN: Hello everyone, I am not dead!. Sorry that its been a while since I last posted a chapter, work has kinda been kicking my arse as of late and been really leaving me drained an unmotivated to do any sort of writing. So I apologize for the hiatus. But I am back and well rested after my week off and bring to you chapter 6, its probably my shortest one so far but I hope you all enjoy it. Don't forget to leave a review, I love reading them and to the nice chap/chappette who send me the PMs don't worry I have plans for the Decepticons and which ones will be showing up so look forward to it.
Autobots roll out!
-Nautilus hanger-
After their first meeting with the Atlas council, Preceptor decided to head back to the Nortilus airship. While he wished to explore Atlas and its facilities, he knew that would not be wise at this time. Another reason was he height and size, the facilities were not very accommodating for an Autobot, so for now he sought comfort in helping to repair the fighters that were damaged during the Grimm attack. While he was not an engineer, he still knew how to do some basic repairs, the Nautilus engineers were very thankful for his help.
As he helps to repair a fighter with a particularly damaged wing, the sound of metallic legs hitting the metal floor is heard as Pietro approaches in his chair.
"I thought I might find you here, Perceptor. I trust the meeting went well?" he asks the red Autobot.
"As well as it could Pietro, but I feel like we have given your council more questions than answers" he finishes welding the wing back to the fighter as he talks.
"That wouldn't surprise me. Where is Optimus? I thought he was with you".
"Optimus has gone down to your lower city of Mantle I believe with Miss Winter. He wanted to see what the city is like".
"I see" Pietro leans back into his chair as an Atlesian knight walks up beside him "Well putting that aside, I would like to talk to you about an idea I have Perceptor".
This got the Autobot scientist curious as well as the sight of the small robot beside Pietro. He kneels down to his fellow scientist. "Oh? What would that be?" he asks.
Pietro smiles "Well as I'm sure you're aware, our facilities are not well very accommodating for you Autobots and I know you would very much like to see them. So here is my proposal" he gestures to the knight beside him "We link you up to this Atlesian knight, so you can control it and see through its way I can give you a tour of our facilities without you having to leave the Nautilus or without breaking your word to James on staying hidden".
Perceptor looks over the small white knight as he ponders over the idea. It fascinated him, as the knight reminded him of the Minicons from Cybertron. He smiles "That is a very feasible idea Pietro. Let's try it and as I've heard some of you humans say. Nothing ventured, nothing gained".
Pietro lets out a small chuckle and has the knight turn around, he then opens a panel at the back of its head. "This is the connection point, let me just get the cable out for you and….oh..oh my" before he could finish explaining what he was going to do Perceptor had already extended a cable from his fingertip into the knight's head. It stutters and twitches a little before its head falls forward and it shuts down.
"There we are, I should be all connected now Pietro, just give me a moment" Perceptor pulls his hand back and transforms into his vehicle mode before parking up against the hanger wall. The knight's head then slowly raises up and starts looking around the hanger, then its own hands, then Pietro as Perceptors voice comes out of the speakers. "My word is this is how you humans see the world? Everything is so much bigger, it's fascinating".
"Indeed" is all Pietro can say as he walks around the knight in astonishment, examining it "How are you doing that Perceptor? Is your mind actually inside the knight or is it wireless communication?" Pietro asks which Perceptor is more than happy to answer.
"Oh no its wireless communication, my mind is still within my frame, but I can see through this knight as if I was looking at a monitor in a lab as well as control its movements. I can cut the connection at any point too, so should this body be destroyed it will not affect me at all.".
"I see, your people really are fascinating Perceptor. There is so much we can learn from you and I hope that if things go well with the council that we can sit down and compare ideas" Pietro cleans his glasses with a warm smile on his face. "Well then what would you like to see first my friend?".
Perceptor thinks for a moment, in all honesty he wanted to see everything that Atlas had to offer. But he knew where to begin first. "I would like to see this CCT tower I've heard the engineers talk about. I assume it's integral as to how the people of this world communicate with each other".
Pietro nods "That's correct but there is much more to it than that, I'll explain on the way. Just follow me and I suggest you don't speak as we walk around. Don't want to draw attention to ourselves now".
Perceptor nods and follows Pietro out of the hangar and into the military base. This was going to be an interesting learning experience for the Autobot scientist and was one he was looking forward to.
-Hours later in Pietro's Atlas laboratory-
Preceptor wanders around Pietro's lab. It had been a wondrous few hours for him, he had seen the CCT tower in Atlas Academy, learned about how the towers in the other huntsman academies communicated with each other to keep the CCT network up. Why it was important to have huntsmen and huntresses, he was also shown around Atlas itself, the tall skyscrapers may have been smaller than what he was used to but it still reminded him of the cities on Cybertron particularly Iacon. Pietro even took Perceptor down to his clinic in Mantle and showed him how they used technology to give those who had lost a limb a normal life by treating a rabbit faunus with a robotic arm. This fascinated Preceptor but also made him sad, the people of Remnant really were more fragile than he had thought. For a Cybertronian if you lost a limb it wasn't a great loss, you just got a new one attached without any problems. For the people of Remnant it was different, if they lost an arm or a leg or an eye it wasn't so easy to replace and if you couldn't afford the surgery then their life was made that much harder. He admired the work that went into making a robotic limb though and started thinking of ways the designs could be improved upon to look more natural. He would have to speak with Ratchet and Wheeljack about this the next time he saw them, they would have a lot of input about it and on everything else he had seen today. He couldn't wait.
By far though what had piqued the Autobot scientist's curiosity the most was the concept of dust. It was just like energeon in the way it was used for everything on Remnant from heating, to power to weapons used to protect the kingdoms from the creatures of Grimm. There were so many different types that it almost overloaded his mind and he had to take a step back and put his investigation into dust at the back of his mind for now. All of this showed him that in a way, the Cybertronians and the people of Remnant were very similar in how they used one resource for almost everything in their daily lives. As a scientist he couldn't be happier with how the day had gone. But he did have questions though and hoped Pietro would be able to answer them.
He sits down in the chair behind Pietro's desk "This truly has been a fascinating experience Pietro, thank you for showing me around Atlas today".
Pietro couldn't help but smile. It was nice to have another man or Cybertonian of science to talk with and he relished in the company. "It was my pleasure Perceptor. I quite enjoyed it myself. But I also get the feeling you have some questions for me"
"I do, in all honesty I have many but most of them can wait. There is one that can't though. Why don't you use a satellite network for your communication? It's much more efficient and is what we used on Cybertron in conjunction with our local networks. From what I've seen you have the technology to make one but you haven't. Why?"
Pietro sighs "I have actually been tackling that idea for quite some time now. But it's impossible, due to the fact we don't have a viable fuel source to get anything into the orbit of Remnant. Dust is our only one and as soon as it leaves the atmosphere it loses its power."
Perceptor ponders for a moment, cupping the knight's chin before speaking again. "Well then let's figure it out together my friend. I believe you humans have another saying. Two heads are better than one" he offers his robotic hand "and I'm sure there is much more we could offer each other in the future. I can even get my comrades Wheeljack and Ratchet to help, they would be more then willing"
Pietro is taken back by the offer but ultimately he was ecstatic at the notion of working with Perceptor and his fellow Autobots, so how could he say no and he knew just the project to start with as he shook Perceptors hand. "In that case there is a project I have been working on for quite some time and with your input we could make it better than I could have imagined".
This really piqued Perceptors interest as he watches Pietro walk over to another part of his lab where a tube was leaning up against the wall. Pietro types a code into the pad on the wall and the tube slowly opens with a hiss as a mist comes out. As it clears a humanoid shape can be seen, it was a young human girl with short orange hair and was practically naked. The Autobot scientist just looks on in awe and can only mutter one phrase.
"By the all spark".
