Chapter IV

Outpost 54, 25 miles offshore of Bermuda

Mark, Jon, and Serizawa stood on the topmost deck of the abandoned oil rig that now served as Castle Bravo. They leaned against the railing that prevented them from falling off, their minds rife with thoughts.

"He'll be OK, Ishiro," Jon said, placing his hand on the doctor's shoulder.

"I hope so," Serizawa replied. His gaze was downwards, toward the water at the base of the rig.

Mark's gaze, however, was towards the sunset. He would spend many evenings watching the sun set with his family. He just hoped that it was still possible.

He noticed a bright flash of light that spurted from the sun. His eyes strained to see the remnants of the flash, when he saw her.

Another flash of light revealed the form of an enormous moth, with wings that glowed with the same intensity of the sun behind it. Beside it, a glowing figure flew toward the outpost.

"Guys?" Mark said, directing their attention to the vision before him.

As they looked up, they saw the moth's wings simmer down to a blue glow. As it drew closer, Mark could see that it was carrying a pair of humanlike figures on it's back.

The moth attached itself to the side of the rig, raising it's furry head to level with Mark and the other scientists. It's blue, multifaceted eyes stared unblinkingly at the little creatures before it, before stepping up onto the concrete. It lowered it's wings so they touched the ground, and the two figures slid down one of them.

One of the figures, the shorter one with long hair, walked toward Mark. As she drew close, Mark realized who she was.

"Madison?" he asked, as if in disbelief.

"Dad!" she replied, her walk breaking into a run.

Mark held his daughter in a fatherly embrace. His grip on her was tight and warm, his love for her as evident as the sun's light.

The taller figure ran to Serizawa. He carried an object in his left hand as his right arm wrapped around the shocked doctor.

"Ojichan!" he cried as he hugged Serizawa tightly.

"Mago?" Serizawa replied. "You're OK!"

"Yes, I am," Ken said, pulling back a bit but keeping his arm on his grandfather's shoulder. "Haha, she..."

"I know, Ken." Serizawa pulled his grandson back into a hug. "It's OK."

As the Russell's and the Serizawa's reunited, the rest of Castle Bravo's Monarch personnel gawked in amazement at the giant moth before them. Beside it, the figure of light landed hard on the concrete, and it's fiery light faded to reveal a blond woman in a red and blue skintight suit. She wore a leather jacket over her suit, with the wings of a pilot on her collar.

"I'm looking for Agent Fury," she said in an American accent.

When she finished speaking, the familiar figure of Nicholas J. Fury walked out of the crowd, a smirk of recognition on his face.

"Carol Danvers," he said in greeting, "what the hell are you doing here? Stop by for a courtesy call?"

"Not really. I'm here at the insistence of the Queen herself." As Carol spoke, she bobbed her head in the direction of the gigamoth. Nick made eye contact with it and grinned.

"Nice to see you again, Mothra," he said.

The moth did little more than nod in response, her language unable to be comprehended by most humans. Behind her, two caterpillar-like forms inched over the edge of the rig, scooting underneath Mothra's wings. The black and yellow one returned the humans' stares, while the grey one chittered and squeaked at her mother. Mothra conversed with her daughter as Colonel Foster came out of the crowd.

"You have a lot to explain, Fury," she said with a sigh.

Fury smiled as he replied, "no problem, Colonel."

Unknown Location

"How are things going, Mr. Garrett?" Alan Jonah asked, his British accent evident through the speakers.

"Surprisingly well, Sir," John replied. "The teenagers stole the Orca, but we've managed to scrounge up enough material for Dr. Russell to make a cheap replica."

"That is surprising. How long until it's ready?"

"Before tomorrow is over. Where will we use it first?"

The British veteran expressed a look of pleasure at the thought of his plan coming together. He smirked through the screen as he made eye contact.

"There is a shrine in Japan, dedicated to the thunder god Raijin. Underneath it, a Titan was discovered that Monarch could not make any distinction towards. I want you to wake it up."

"And after that?"

"Rather eager, aren't you?"

"HYDRA was destroyed by the Avengers. I am glad that they are divided, but I want more than that. I want them destroyed completely."

Alan's smile grew. He understood John Garrett's loyalty to HYDRA, as he once expressed the same loyalties to the betterment of man.

"After you're done in Japan, wait for my directions. I want to see what it does when we wake it up before I make any further decisions."

"Smart. I'll arrange a team to accompany Dr. Russell to the shrine."

"Very good. That is all."

Garrett nodded as Alan Jonah faded to black on the screen. He stood up to retire for the night.

He had survived the shot from Coulson's gun, but with consequences. His goal of spreading HYDRA and uniting the world under it was destroyed, and the Avengers were responsible for it. If he played his cards right, the Titans would do his work for him.

And, if all else falls, he can always get another upgrade.
