Max and Thackery on the Slopes of Mount Doom

Max - Frodo

Thackery - Sam

A greatly battered weary Max and Thackery made their way up the slopes of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring. Both boys knew that they were so close to destroying it and defeating the evil dark lord Sauron once and for all. Thackery was walking in front of Max, the bearer of the One Ring. Both boys were completely exhausted from their long journey to Mordor. Max took a step up the mountain, but ended up slipping and he fell to the ground.

Even Thackery's exhaustion got to him and he fell to the ground before rolling over onto his back. Both boys took the moment to try and regain a little of their strength. But soon enough, Max raised his head from the ground and looked up to the top of Mount Doom. Gathering what strength he could muster, Max literally clawed his way up the slope of the dark mountain. But he only managed to get a few feet ahead of Thackery. When his energy was gone, Max laid down to rest again, even though it seemed futile as he rested his head against the ground. He took a few deep breaths as he laid there.

Thackery looked up to where his friend was laying and rolled back onto his belly. Then with a growl he too clawed his way up to his weary best friend. When he was beside the tired Max, Thackery carefully rolled him onto his back and held his head in his lap. Thackery looked down at the Ring on the chain around his best friend's neck before looking up at the burning top of Mount Doom. He felt as if the situation was becoming more and more gloomy by the minute. Then gazing down at Max's weary and dirt covered face, Thackery tried to bring some hope back to their quest, "Do you remember Salem, Mr. Max?

"It'll be spring soon." Thackery reminded with a small smile. Max's eyes opened a little and Thackery then said, "And the orchids will be in blossom." He took a deep breath as he started to miss everything about their home, "And the birds will be nesting in the thicket." Then he thought it a little humorous when he said, "And the farmers will be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields…" Then with a less, but still happy thought came to his mind and he said, "And they'll be eating the first of the strawberries with cream." Max weakly smiled at the thought, and Thackery smiled back before asking him, "Do you remember the taste of strawberries, Mr. Max?"

"No, Thackery." Max said with exhaustion in his voice, "I can't recall the taste of food…" He began to reminisce about the things he missed by saying, "or the sound of water or the touch of grass.

"I'm…" The Ring bearer was sounding a little frightened when he said, "naked in the dark." He sounded truly frightened when he said, "There's- there's nothing." His eyes became wide when he told Thackery whose lips slightly quivered, "There's no veil, between me and the wheel of fire." His eyes grew ever more wide as he could basically see the dark lord right now, "I can see him…" His breathing became frantic and he said, "with my waking eyes."

"Then let us be rid of it…" Thackery said with a glare for all the misery that the Ring and its master had caused them, "once and for all."

Max looked up to him as Thackery said, "Come on, Mr. Max." Thackery knew that he couldn't carry the ring himself when he shook his head and said, "I can't carry it for you." But then with a nod of his head something else came to mind, "But I can carry you."

He started picking Max up as he yelled, "Come on!"

Thackery was able to Max up onto his shoulders and made sure that his friend didn't fall off. When he was sure that Max was firmly secured over his shoulders and the One Ring still around his friend's neck, Thackery knew that they were ready to keep on going. Taking it one step at a time, Thackery started carrying Max up the slopes of Mount Doom to finish the quest.

Author's Note: And here is the final piece to this year's Halloween package. Maybe next year, I might do more of a Halloween like story. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
