Here Peter is affiliated with the Institute and is one of it's leading scientists in regards to Biology, Chemistry, and Bio-Chemistry. So he'd fall under the BioScience division though he'll occasionally work with Advance Systems, mainly in the production and maintaining of the Third General of Synths. He's also one of the few members of the Institute that often ventures out into the Commonwealth rather than rely on Synths to do it for him.
As for the Sole Survivor, they will be a Marvel character connected to the Spider-man mythos, but it'll be a few chapters until they even appear. And speaking of appearances, Peter's appearance will be that of the Spider-man Noir suit, it fits pretty well with the post apocalypse noir setting that Fallout is famous for. Plus, it looks awesome, easily one of the more underrated suits he has. At least I think it is, all people ever go on about are either the classic suit, the black suit, the Symbiote suit, or the old school Scarlet Spider suits.
Plus, doesn't the image of Spider-man Noir shooting a berserking Deathclaw with one of those Gatling energy cannons sound awesome?
Disclaimer: I don't own any Marvel or Fallout characters seen, mentioned or used.
"Doctor Parker... Oh Doctor Paaaaarkeeeeeer... DOCTOR PARKER!"
"Ten more minutes..." a man grumbled from underneath several pristine white blankets and bed sheets on a equally pristine white bed.
"Doctor Parker, it is currently seven forty in the morning" the voice said again, this time with obvious annoyance.
How a synthetic voice belonging to what was at the very base of it, glorified data coding, could feel actual annoyance was beyond him... which was odd since he designed the damn thing.
"If you are not fully awake by eight, I'm programmed to initiate the 'bucket of ice cold water' directive" the voice threatened.
"All right, all right..." Peter yawned as he reached up to run a hand down his face "I'm up, I'm up!"
"You have said that several times previous Doctor Parker and each time ended with you resuming your sleep cycle" the voice chided the man with obvious annoyance "You told me to awaken you at this prescribed time, regardless of how long you slept up until that point"
"So I did" Peter said with a long suffering sigh as he sat up, wincing slightly as he felt a dull throb in his back.
His bed mate stirred slightly under the covers but otherwise, remained silent and seemingly asleep. Peter spared them a brief glance and grinned at the shoulder length silver hair covering their face. Carefully, Peter reached over and brushed a few of the strands out of the way so he could get a glimpse of the seemingly sleeping face underneath. Peter knew they weren't asleep, they were, for the moment, in capable of sleeping like a actual person would.
'Still, best let them lie...' Peter thought as he carefully got out of bed, holding back a shiver at the feeling of the cool air on his body, and quickly went about gathering up his clothes before heading to the restroom for a quick shower.
Once he was cleaned, dry and reasonably dressed, Peter sat down at his private terminal and switched the monitor on. He saw that he received a few messages from a 'co-worker' of his, Otto, asking him to stop by his lab latter to discuss something. Peter deleted the message without a second thought and continued to read through the other messages in his inbox. Most of them were related to the latest projects of the BioScience Division such as the latest update on the batch of crop seeds that they've been genetically tinkering with, the Synth Gorillas, and a few results on a little experiment that Peter's been running that involved increasing the efficiency and potency of Stimpaks.
'Hmm, only a eight point four percent increase' Peter thought with a frown as he stared at the screen 'What am I missing? Maybe I should look to modifying the base compound that makes up the serum by adding-'
"I thought you weren't working this morning"
Peter started a little at the sudden voice behind him and turned to see that his bed mate had long since 'awoken' and was now standing behind him with only one of the thin blankets from his bed covering her, though she opted to leave her legs bare.
"I'm not working, Silver" Peter gave the 'woman' a sheepish grin before he scooted his chair slightly back so she could see the screen of his computer "I'm just looking through some messages is all and writing down some notes-"
"Your dressed for work" Silver said, her voice and face completely devoid of whatever feelings she was experiencing in regards to Peter's actions.
"Well that's because I have nothing else to wear at the moment since SOMEONE likes to rip my clothes off me. The rest are being washed" Peter gave Silver a pointed look.
"I do not rip them off" Silver countered with a frown "You move too much when I remove them and you end up causing me to accidently rip them in the process"
Before Peter could respond, the voice that awoke him earlier deiced to speak, it's place of origin the computer terminal beside him.
"Silver is correct Doctor Parker. In my analysts of you and Silver's recreational procreation I have noticed a sort of eagerness and impatience from you when she is removing your articles and will often at times fidget or try to aide her in hastening the removal of your clothing. Thus they more often than not, they end up ripped as the fabrics are not designed to withstand the strength that both of your bodies posse-"
"Thank you Karen" Peter sighed as he glanced at his computer with a dry look on his face.
There are times, like this one, where Peter wonders why he doesn't just leave his A.I. assistant in one of the terminals that he uses in the BioScience Division labs.
"My pleasure Doctor Parker" Karen replied before falling silent again as Peter returned his attention to Silver and saw that she was now redressing.
Silver Sable, by all accounts, looked, sounded and felt human. She could sweat, smell, eat and bleed like just about most humans and even took her time to acquire an Eastern European accent to help her further blend in with the populace above. The only real difference between her and a human was the density of her muscular and bone structures, both of which were synthetic, and her brain. She, like all Third generation Synths, possessed a built in neurological implant which allowed a Synth to be given commands and programmed with any relevant information related to their assigned station.
Which in Silver's case as a Synth Courser involved weapons handling, hand to hand combat, and generally any way to kill something with whatever she can get her hands on... or her bare hands if push comes to shove.
'Which reminds me... I need to speak with Doctor Binet later on who oversees the Synth's program uploads. Cause I know for a fact that Silver didn't get the knowledge she used last night from some weapons training program' Peter thought as he watched Silver getting dressed and noticed how she shot him a playful look over her shoulder followed by a slight shake of her rear as she pulled her panties up her legs.
"What will you be working on today?" Silver asked as she stopped dressing at just her underwear and casually approached Peter before taking a seat in his lap and pressing her body against his own.
The suddenness took him a bit off guard and for a moment he thought this was her attempt to drag him back to bed and her before he saw the look of actual interest on her face. Peter cleared his throat as he did his best to adjust his seating position before leaning back a little.
"Nothing overtly serious, just gonna go in and check up on a few tests that I let run overnight" Peter revealed as he rested a hand on Silver's waist and began to trace small circles into her smooth, warm skin with his thumb.
"Will you take long?" Silver asked as she reached up and rested a hand on Peter's chest and tried to mimic his actions before deciding to simply let her hand lie on his collar bone.
"Not really, I should be done by lunch" Peter answered with a slight shrug before a thoughtful look appeared on his face as he remembered the contents of some of the messages he received "Assuming someone doesn't ask for my help with anything"
Silver made a face at this, causing Peter to crack a smile, the Synth detested when he was late getting back to her and has found some of the comments she's made about going out and brining him back herself amusing. He knows she'll never do such a thing, there was a number of fail safes in her programing that prevent Coursers from rebelling like some of the standard Generation Three Synths have.
At least, as far as Peter knows.
"What will you be doing while I'm away?" Peter asked as he pulled Silver a little closer to him, causing the white haired Synth's face to briefly shift to something more content before it resumed the deadpanned look that all Coursers seemed to like displaying.
"I will be remaining here until my scheduled diagnostic" Silver revealed as she looked around the room briefly "Perhaps organize your room so it is not a mess to pass the time"
"It's not a mess, everything is where it's supposed to be" Peter said with a scoff.
"I see four different plates of dinner you never ate from a month ago on your dresser" Silver said in a deadpanned tone.
"It's for science!" Peter defended.
"No, it's you being lazy" Silver countered as she stood up "And being easily distracted"
"Can you blame me?" Peter said as he eyed Silver up and down.
"Yes, your smarter than that" Silver said with a frown "And stop using me as an excuse for your laziness"
Peter tapped his chin at this "Hmmm... nah!"
Silver's response was to throw a pillow at this head.
...
Because of the limited space in the Institutes compound, few researchers had their own private labs or offices to work from aside from maybe a small area in their own respective homes. Peter shared his work space with another doctor of the BioScience Division, Doctor Morbius, who was currently researching different species bats to be added to the Watcher Initiative for deployment at night.
Personally Peter thinks his spiders would be better given they can access more areas without drawing nearly as much attention as a synthetic bat or crow, but what can you do?
Peter made a quick beeline towards his work terminal once he entered the small lab space, privately relieved that Morbius wasn't present. He didn't have many real issues with Morbius, he was a nice guy in Peter's opinion, but the man was... weird, for the lack of a better term. And given some of the personality types in the Institute, that was saying something.
"All right, let's see what news you have for me today" Peter said as he took his seat at his terminal and powered it on and bring up the files stored on it pertaining to his latest experiment.
It wasn't all that great in the grand scheme of things, at least compared to some of the other projects currently being conducted by some of the other divisions, but health wise, it could prove to be a major boon to the surface world.
RadAway that renders a person permanently immune to Nuclear Radiation!
At least the common types encountered out in the world, such as gamma radiation, ultraviolet radiation, microwave radiation, and even x-rays. True most of those could be countered with specialized gear and equipment like a well preserved lead lined hazmat suit or even Rad X, but considering your average Waste lander can barely find water clean enough to survive off of, let alone specialized drugs and antibiotics to fend off nuclear radiation poisoning, many of them were forced to endure the slow decaying affects of radiation, even after over two hundred years.
'I doubt this will ever cure a Ghoul, if they want to be cured in the first place, but it should at the very least stop more from being made and ending up feral' Peter thought as he went to retrieve his modified RadAway samples from a refrigerated storage bin and see if the samples yielded any promising results.
As Peter continued to set up his workspace, the doors slid open and a man with white hair entered the lab, dressed in the pristine white lab coats that just about every scientist wears in the Institute.
Peter blinked at the sudden appearance of the man before he gave him a respectful nod "Father, morning"
"Good morning Doctor Parker" Father responded with a nod of his own "I was looking for Doctor Morbius, do you know where he's at currently?"
"No sir" Peter shook his head "If he was here, it was before I git here" Peter nodded towards his co-worker's work station.
Father hummed in acknowledgement as he wandered over towards Morbius's station and gave it a brief once over before he turned towards Peter, who had since begun analyzing his modified Rad Away samples interacting with irradiated cells with a electron microscope.
"How goes your latest test?" Father asked as he casted a brief glance at the monitor next to Peter and watched as a few lines of coding appeared on it.
"Slower than I hoped, which is sorta good since it hasn't failed like the last dozen tests" Peter said as he adjusted the dial for his microscope and carefully watched the cells interact with one another "But the samples I collected weren't as pure as I hoped. I'm gonna have to go back out and find some better ones... if there are any left. Heh, turns out even Rad Away starts to grow scarce after two hundred years"
"On your own?" Father asked with a raised brow "Or will you be taking an escort with you?"
"I'm going by myself, the location I found the last batch wasn't near anywhere dangerous" Peter answered with a shrug as he leaned away from the microscope and shot Father a quirked brow "Why, is something the matter?"
While the geopolitical landscape of the Commonwealth changed almost hourly as new raider Gangs and tribes of Super Mutants competed for territory, he didn't think the marsh he got his Rad Away samples from had already been taken over by some Raider gang or infested with some irradiated nightmare from Hell that quickly. Than again, it was fall, a lot of the gangs tended to start looking for better loggings as the air grew colder and winter began it's slow creep on the New England coast, or what was left of it.
'Should swing by Ayo and ask for a status update on the world above before heading out, just in case' Peter thought, though he was loathed to be in said man's presence ever since he began his... thing, with Silver.
"No, of course not" Father said with a shake of his head "It's just that usually S1-85... apologies, I mean 'Silver' usually joins you on your excursions to the surface world. But lately, it's been reported to be growing 'moody' when your off on your own"
"Moody?" Peter repeated with a frown "What do you mean by that?"
"Well, when it speaks to others, what few that will approach it mind you, it's been reported to speak in rather clipped tones" Father revealed before clearing his throat "Even by Courser standards. And Silver has been observed to shy away from just about everyone even more so than it's fellow Courser's"
Peter blinked at this, this was the first he's ever heard of anything of the sort "How long has this been going on?"
"Since you began to sleep with it" Father said with a dry look "I already hear enough from Doctor Ayo about your... 'relationship' with Silver. The last I need to hear from him, and others now, is that your sexual liaisons with it have begun to affect it's primary programing and function... even more so than it already has. You know what will happen if this behavior isn't corrected, yes?"
"I'm aware" Peter said with his eyes narrowing slightly "And I'll speak to Silver before I leave"
"Please do, I'd hate for Silver to be wiped" Father said with a shake of his head "While it's behavior is something to be concerned about, it's also something of interest to me and a few others to see how well a Synth can functioning when it's in a actual relationship. One that it wasn't programed to maintain or initiate. It could make our Synth's infiltration into certain communities easier and offer up new possibilities for a few operations"
"Glad to know my love life is being used to lay down the groundwork for future endeavors" Peter said with an eye roll.
Father chuckled at this before he winced and slipped into a brief fit of coughing before clearing his throat. Peter pointedly turned his attention back to his microscope as Father reached into his pocket and withdrew a small handkerchief to wipe his mouth with before quickly pocketing the now red stained fabric away.
"Do you need me to get anything for you while I'm up there sir?" Peter asked after waiting a few moments before turning his gaze back to the elderly man.
"That won't be necessary" Father said as he turned to leave before stopping and snapping his fingers "Oh yes, I need you to stop by Diamond City while your on the surface for a brief observation study"
"Who or what am I observing?" Peter asked with interest.
"Just simply observe any and all new comers over the next few days and let our agents know of them" Father said as he glanced down at his watch with a distant look on his face "I want you there by the twenty-fifth and remain there for a week. Afterwards, contact us and we'll teleport you back"
"Can't you use a Synth for that?" Peter asked with some confusion "Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem doing this, it's just this sort of thing is normally reserved for the Infiltrators"
And Diamond City had plenty of Synths acting as agents within it's walls, it'd be easy to simply get into contact with one of them and have them carry out Father's instructions. Probably with even less attention than Peter's bound to attract... his attire made him someone you wouldn't exactly miss. And Peter wasn't exactly on good terms with Diamond City's security after they caught him... 'acquiring' a few items for a project he was working on at the time. Well that and he may have a ex-girlfriend there that might still be sorta kinda angry with him and won't hesitate to shoot him if given the opportunity.
Who knew Pepper could be so salty?
"In this instance, I prefer it to be handled by human hands, and all of our Synths in Diamond City will otherwise be busy with their assigned tasks" Father said as he began to head for the lab's door "This is of great personal importance to me Doctor Parker, I'd consider it a personal favor if you would do this this for me"
"Sure thing Father" Peter said as he watched the Director depart his lab with even more confusion before sighing and turning his attention back to his microscope "Sure thing..."
Silver was not going to be pleased.
...
As it would turn out, Silver was not 'not pleased' when Peter returned to his room... because she had already left for her routine diagnostic check and wouldn't be done until Peter was already on the surface.
A bit cowardly yes, but considering he's seen Silver rip Super Mutants apart with her bare hands, Peter wasn't willing to see just how good her protocols for not harming Institute staff was. Though he did make sure to leave a note saying 'thank you' for cleaning up his room, even if said act totally messed up his purposely placed things.
"Ugh, where'd she put my books?" Peter said as he made his way around his room, looking for a few books to bring up to the surface with him to read to help pass the time.
So far he hasn't found them anywhere near their original placement, under his desk to be specific, and he checked the closet to see if they were shoved on a shelf inside. He was tempted to ask Karen but he was pretty sure the irritable A.I. was in on some kind of joke with Silver at his expense.
"Do you need help Doctor?" Karen asked.
"No I'm good" Peter waved off the program's request with a huff before he decided that he'll just get something to read while he was on the surface "Just be sure to let Silver know I appreciate her re-organizing my things... without my input"
"I shall Doctor" Karen said as Peter made his way over to his closet to retrieve his clothes for the surface.
His 'Surface World' attire wasn't much to gawk at, simply a pair of black pants with a few stiches in them, a long sleeved black shirt under an old black aviator's jacket he found in a crashed Vertibird several years ago, and a pair of worn black boots. Lying next to the stack of clothes was an old black mask that Peter had stitched back together in his spare time over the years, mostly out of boredom, with a pair of inconspicuous goggles over where his eyes would be. The fact that his outfit was almost entirely black was coincidental, though it helped him move a little easier at night as few would be able to see him and he's found that few people were willing to approach him because of the color of his clothing.
Peter wasn't sure why, but he chalked it to some odd primal instinct within the human mind that warned them mysterious figures in black were to be avoided.
'If only the Super Mutants would too. I swear they've spread the word to be on the look out for me just so they can bother me' Peter thought dryly as he slipped out of his lab coat and work clothes in exchange for the attire he'll need on the surface.
Once he was properly dressed, Peter went to the nightstand by his bed and pulled open the drawer to reveal a small lunchbox he found a few years ago. Peter pulled it out and unclipped the lid and lifted it to reveal the contents of the lunchbox was filled with bottlecaps, the universal currency of the modern world.
'Hmm, starting to run low on bottlecaps' Peter thought as he tested the weight of the lunchbox before closing it and sliding it into a backpack he was taking with him 'Better stock up while I'm up there... or just find a crap ton of Nuka's for someone to drink'
How anyone could think that sorry of an excuse of a soda was any good was beyond Peter's understanding, Vim was a healthier, superior drink far as he was concerned.
After packing the last of his things, Peter wandered over to his personal terminal and began to power it down after ensuring that it's passwords were set and the files secured. He wasn't too worried that someone would break in and try to hack it, the Institute was too small a community and place for someone to get away with such a thing, but that didn't mean he was just going to leave it for someone to wander in and start snooping around.
Last thing anyone needed was another Warren incident.
...
The teleportation room, at least that's what Peter likes to call it, wasn't all that grand in his opinion, or spacious. It was also cold and left the hairs on the back of his neck and arms standing on end as he stepped on to the teleporter's platform while one of the machine's technicians, a Third Generation Synth, began to power on the machine and input the coordinates to the marsh that Peter found his Rad Away samples.
"Going unarmed again Doctor?" the technician asked as he the teleporter's power levels begin to rise as it charged up to transport Peter to the surface.
"Yeah" Peter nodded as he slipped one of the straps of his backpack over his shoulder "If I need anything, I can literally reach down and probably find something to use to fight someone with"
Plus going without a weapon would draw less attention to himself, at least, less attention than walking around carrying advance energy weaponry that only the Institute would have. Plus it left him room in his bag to carry more samples or simple nick knacks he might stumble across while o the surface.
He was just a few issues away from collecting all of the Grognak the Barbarian comics...
"If you say so" the technician said with a shrug "Stand by for jump in five... four..."
Just before the synth had reached two, Peter slipped his mask on before his body was surrounded by energy milliseconds before he was teleported away and into the wasteland above...
...
And done.
Next chapter, The Commonwealth... or what's left of it.
