Okay, so Hugo hadn't been dreaming, there was a talking, floating creature in his room who wanted to give him superpowers. Hugo was expecting the little kwami to be gone and for the events that just occurred to just be a strange dream. He had a pillow placed on his head when he came back to consciousness.
"You're awake, master." Nooroo smiled, "You took quite a while to come back to, so I made sure you were comfortable."
"Y-you're real. You're actually real."
"Yes, I am, master. I'm Nooroo of the Butterfly Miraculous."
"Are you like an demon or some magical creature?"
"I am a kwami, my name is Nooroo."
"Okay, so what does that have to do with me?"
"Well, you have been chosen to become my holder. The city of Paris needs you to be a hero and this miraculous will help you do that." He lifts the broach up towards Hugo,
"Could this wait for the morning? I've had a long day and I really don't have the energy to unpack all of this." He walks over to the closet, just hoping to get some pajamas on and get to bed.
"Of course, master!" He smiled, "You must be tired after a long day."
He sighed, he was really hoping this was just a dream and it would all be over in the morning.
It wasn't as he found out the next morning when the small kwami was found sleeping on his desk.
"Good morning, master." He yawned, "How did you sleep?"
"Okay, I guess."
"Good, now we can get to busines-wait where are you going?"
"I have to get to school, I can deal with whatever this is later."
"No, no, no. We need to talk about this now."
"I don't have time. Maybe I should show you to my papa, he should be able to hel-"
"No! No one can know that I exist!" Nooroo couldn't risk anyone, especially Gabriel, that his new holder was his grandson, "At least take me with you. We can talk in between classes."
"No one else will be able to see you?"
"Not unless you keep me in your backpack."
"You really aren't letting me go without you, are you?"
"Yep."
"Fine." Hugo took the brooch from the kwami. In a flash of light, the brooch changed from its winged form to just the pendant. It changed color from a dark purple to a green. The wings disappeared. He pinned it on his shirt underneath his jacket. His grandfather would notice the piece of jewelry that seemingly appeared overnight, best to keep it hidden.
"Alright, you'll be okay in there? Do you need anything to eat? Can you eat?"
"Oh yes, I can just eat about anything, master."
"Anything specific you want?"
He shook his head.
"Alright, I know butterflies like sugar, so does candy work?"
"Anything works, master."
Okay, I'll try to get you some at lunch."
Hugo kept his mouth shut as he ate his breakfast, hoping his grandfather wouldn't notice the brooch hidden underneath his jacket. Thankfully neither him or Nathalie noticed and he seemed relieved when he got to the limo.
"Here's your friend's jacket, all washed and clean for them." She handed him the folded up swim jacket.
"Thank you, I'll make sure he gets it."
"I'm glad you made some friends, your father always seemed happier when he was with his friends."
He nodded, at least he knew his father wasn't lonely all the time. But he wondered how long his friends would last, especially after the blunder yesterday.
"I'll see you after school, have a good time."
Hugo stepped out of the limo and onto the front entrance of the school. Every step he took felt like he was heading towards the executioner's block with a bag over his head. Okay, maybe not that dramatic, but it still terrified him. As he walked into the courtyard, he could see people looking his way, laughing with others, laughing at him. The whispers build up in his mind.
"Breathe, Hugo." Nooroo whispered from his backpack, "Just breathe in and out."
Hugo did as Nooroo said, focusing on his breathing rather than the people around him. After several times, he felt better, lighter. He was able to get to his homeroom without getting lost and sat down at his seat with no problem.
"Hey, Hugo!" He felt an arm wrap around him like a vice. It was Percy, who grinned a bright smile.
"Percy, he can't breathe." Quinn nudged Percy's arm.
"Oh sorry, Huey." He let him go. Hugo coughed a few times before regaining his breathe.
"I wanted to return this." He pulled out the folded up jacket from his backpack.
"Oh you didn't have to clean it, thanks Huey!"
"It's Hugo."
"Don't fight the nickname, trust me, I tried." Quinn
"Come on, Queen is a cool nickname."
"True, but I don't think being nicknamed after a cartoon duck is cool for Hugo."
"I don't think I'll ever be cool with the accident I had."
"You're right considering you've gone viral." Quinn pulled out her phone to show various videos of yesterday's mishap.
He placed his head on the table, groaning, "I'm dead, don't resurrect me."
"Come on, it's not the end of the world. I once attempted to replace all the
"Don't pull pranks or it will almost get you expelled?"
"Nope, do a better job of not getting caught."
Hugo smiled, he had been so worried that they would want to be friends with him after what happened, he was relieved. Yet, during the lesson, he could feel a heated glare his way. But that could just be a coincidence, right?
Felina watched as the late bell of Dupont rang as she had just leaped onto a chimney near the school.
"Seriously? Even with these superpowers, I'm still late." She groaned. She could detransform and walk in late to her first class, but classes were boring. She couldn't use the sick excuse anymore with her father.
But..what if school was canceled? After all the building of Dupont was old, there had to be some chance of some fire starting in the halls. She smirked as a devious plan formed in her mind. After all, if anyone saw her during the accident, they would think she just came to save the people. She was a superhero after all.
Felina was untouchable.
In the middle of the lesson, Hugo smelled something burning. Did the cafeteria staff burn some food? He paled as he saw kids and faculty running through the halls and smoke coming from one of the classrooms. The fire alarm went off, causing the water sprinklers to activate in every classroom.
"Everyone evacuate, please get outside as fast as you can." Mr. Agrente instructed.
"Do you think it's a drill?"
"If it is, it's the most realistic one I've been to."
"Hugo, Hugo." Nooroo whispered from his backpack, "We need to talk, it's important."
"I forgot something important in the classroom, I'm going back to get it." He told his friends.
"Hugo, wait!" Before his friends could stop him, Hugo ran off and went into the bathroom.
"Nooroo, what is it? What's wrong?"
"I can feel the destructive energy of another miraculous nearby. They are the one who caused this."
"But why would they cause a fire?"
"I don't know, but if we don't stop it, it could consume the whole building."
Hugo sighed, "What do I have to do?"
"You have to transform and become a hero."
"I-I don't know if I can."
"You won't be alone, I'll be here to guide you." Nooroo placed a small limb on his shaking hand.
"What is my superpower? Flight? Mind control?"
"You have the power to use the emotions of others and turn them into your superpowered followers." he explained, "This usually involves a conduit like a butterfly or something similar to it. I once had a holder who created his conduits out of origami butterflies."
"So I can create superheroes? So cool."
"Unfortunately since you are young, you will only have five minutes after you use this ability then you will detransform. As long as you don't use it, you can stay transformed as long as needed or until I need to recharge, usually with food."
"Okay, so use it wisely, basically."
"We need to hurry, so I'll just tell you to say these transformation words and hope that all goes well." The kwami sighed, "Nooroo, wings rise."
"That's it? Okay then." He shrugged his shoulders, "Nooroo, wings rise?"
Nooroo was sucked into the brooch and Hugo felt himself change. He felt warm and safe like wrapped in a thousand blankets. Once the warm feeling faded, he looked at himself in one of the windows. He wore a silver butterfly mask over most of his face, his hair seemed to now have a dark purple shine to it now, and his eyes had changed to a light blue color. He wore a white ruffled collar, snugged underneath was the butterfly miraculous, now in its original form of a dark purple brooch with wings. He wore a lavender suit with three white cotton balls. His sleeves had dark purple stripes and there were lavender gloves that went to his elbows. He wore light purple jester pants and dark purple shoes that were pointed at the end. In one of his hands was a short baton with one end having a dark purple dome with a butterfly symbol on it.
"Woah, I look awesome." He said to himself as he struck some poses, almost hitting himself with the baton at one point. Suddenly, he felt a wave of emotion wash over him; fear, dread, and anxiety. Were these coming from the students and the faculty? Crowding the halls as the smoke grew thicker and the flames burned hotter?
"Alright, focus on stopping the fire." he followed the smoke until it got so thick he couldn't see in front of him. What he could see was the flame slowly burning bigger and bigger.
"What can stop a fire? Water, foam, a fire extinguisher!" He rushed over to the fire extinguisher which hung on a wall.
"What are you doing?" He heard an unfamiliar voice as he turned to see Felina standing behind him, casually leaning against one of the desks.
"Oh hi! I'm just putting out the fire." He had seen her on tv, she was one of the new heroes.
"Why?"
"Well if it isn't stopped, it could burn the whole school down."
"Look you seem like a good kid, so I suggest putting it down and stepping away from it."
"Oh so you've got it handled?"
"Sure, so run along little butterfly" She smiled at him, he was unsettled by the sharp teeth directed at him.
"I think it would be better if we worked together, after all we're both heroes, we're both miraculous holder, we can figure out some way to put it out togeth-"
Before he could finish his sentence, she attacked him, using her pole as a sword. Luckily, Hugo raised his baton against her, blocking it.
"I'm not going to let some little pest steal the spotlight from me."
"Spotlight? I don't care about that! I just want to keep the fire from hurting anyone!"
"Too bad."
Felina and Hugo sparred, their weapons clashing against each other like blades. Hugo kept on defending while Feline attacked and attacked with relentlessness. Hugo pushed down on the fire extinguisher, causing it to spurt foam on Felina. He threw the extinguisher at her, which she broke
"Cataclysm!" She broke the casing, causing foam to spray all over her. Hugo ran from the room and escaped into the farthest room from her.
"She can destroy anything with her bare hand! How am I able to beat her if she has that?!"
You have the power to use the emotions of others and turn them into your superpowered followers. He remembered what Nooroo told him and he quickly grabbed a piece of paper, a pencil, and a pair of scissors. Thankfully he had escaped into the art room and he had plenty of materials around him. He sketched out a simple butterfly in the paper, cut it out, and held it in his hands. He cupped it in the palm of his hand, focusing on the people around him, focusing on their emotions. One person in particular was not consumed in fear, anxiety, or dread, but a sense of protection. They wanted to protect others.
"Fly, my little butterfly and make them my champion." He instructed the now living glowing white butterfly.
"Please stay calm everyone, I'm sure everything is fine." Outside Dupont, Principal Mendeleiev was doing crowd control. Most of the students had got out safely and were waiting outside as the fire burned within the school building.
"The firefighters have just being notified, they'll get here soon."
"Mr Argentes? Is something wrong?" She noticed her teacher's nervous expression.
"Almost all of my students are accounted for...except for one."
"Who?"
"It was Hugo, Hugo Agreste." Quinn Lahiffe piped in, "He said he forgot something in the classroom and went back to get it. We haven't seen him since!"
"I-I'm sure he's fine. No need to panic." Mrs. Mendeleiev didn't need Quinn or other self sacrificing students to dive into the fire for Hugo. She had gotten this job a few years ago when Damocles retired and she was elected into the position. She went from the science teacher to the principal which put a new stack of responsibilities on her. She had several sleepless nights where she spent hours looking through programs Though she had a harsh, merciless front, she truly cared about her students and her coworkers even if she didn't show it. She failed to notice the black butterfly entering her pair of glasses.
Principal Mendeleiev? Can you hear me? She nearly jumped when the voice of a young boy echoed through her mind.
"Hawkmoth? No, no, you can't be real." She shook her head as a neon pink butterfly mask appeared in front of her face. She already had been an akuma before, as Kwamibuster, it was not a pleasant experience.
" ? Are you alright?"
"Stay away, I could become akumatized." The people around her started moving backwards from the woman.
"Quick, someone get Crimson Chevalier!"
"Hawkmoth is back!"
Hawkmoth? No, I'm...that's not important right now. You want to protect your students, right?
"Yes, I do."
We both know that the firefighters won't get here in time to stop the fire, so if you want, I can make you a superhero and stop this.
"What's the catch? There's always some kind of price with you, Hawkmoth."
Please don't call me that and there's no catch. If you want to stop the fire, then you have to trust me, Principal Mendeleiv.
"Why should I?"
Well...you trust your students to do the right thing even when you aren't watching them, right?
She sighed, "Yes, I do."
Then trust me. I won't make you do anything you wouldn't do and at any time, you want to stop, I'll release you from my butterfly.
"...Okay, I'll do it." She nodded, hoping she wouldn't regret this.
Yes! Okay...um do you have a name in mind?
She thought for a moment, "What about Alchemist?"
Ohhh, I can work with that.
Mrs. Mendeleiv felt the transformation take place, but it felt different when she was under the control of Hawkmoth. While with him, it felt like being consumed in a black vortex of anger, frustration, wrapping her mind and soul until only Kwamibuster remained. However, this time it felt like being bundled in a warm blanket or a cocoon, being protected and a protector wearing armor at the same time. Her hair remained the same, though her outfit was now a silver cloak resembling a scientist's coat over a dark purple steampunk vest, pants, and boots. On the back of the cloak, a silver butterfly emblem could be seen. At her hip was several different vials and potions, all with different chemicals and substances. Her glasses also change into a pair of butterfly shaped goggles.
"Mendeleiv? You have to fight it." Ms. Bustier was one of the few people who didn't run away when the neon butterfly mask appeared, "Whatever he promised you, it's not worth it."
"I'm fine, Caline. This Hawkmoth didn't promise me anything." She turned towards the burning building.
Alchemist, I have given you the power to create and control various chemicals at your will. Unfortunately I can only keep you in this form for five minutes.
"That's all the time I need." Alchemist mixed together the various vials and potion that were supplied at her hip until she had conjured a foam like substance that was starting to bubble.
"Everyone get clear of the building!" She shouted, causing the crowd of students, faculty, and civilians to panic and flee in terror. She threw the foam concoction into the burning building and watched as it activated. Only a few people noticed a purple silhouette ran out from one of the classrooms and into the nearby street.
BOOM! The foam consumed the building and smothered the fire, leaving only ash and dust.
Wooh! That was awesome!
"How old are you?"
Old enough.
"That's not what I asked."
I didn't think that would work, but I'm glad it did.
"If you're not Hawkmoth, then what should I call you?"
...Give me a moment-
"Crimson Chevalier is here!"
"He'll save us from the akuma!"
Oh no.
"Don't worry I'll take care of this." Alchemist walked towards the red and black knight.
"Hand over your akumatized object, ." He had his yoyo out ready for a fight.
"It's Alchemist and if you haven't noticed I just extinguished this fire and saved the school."
"Don't make this difficult, or I'll be forced to use hostile force."
Too bad that our time is up. Thank you for being my first champion.
'Wait firs-" In a matter of seconds, Alchemist faded and went back to normal. Crimson Chevalier used his yoyo to snatch the butterfly out of the air.
"Miraculous Ladybug!" A swarm of ladybugs erupted from the yoyo and the school building returned to normal. No more burnt hallways, no more foam covered classrooms, it was like it never caught fire in the first place.
"Oh thank goodness!" Mrs. Mendeleiev was suddenly smothered by Mrs. Bustier.
"I'm okay, what happened?"
"You were akumatized!"
"Crimson Chevalier saved the school!"
As everyone else cheered for their hero, was still confused. It didn't feel like an akumitization, not like when she was Kwami Buster. It felt different like she had still been in control yet couldn't remember what occurred.
"Hey guys, what's going on?" Hugo appeared behind his friends, his clothes were slightly worse for wear, but no permanent damage had been done.
"Where were you?!"
"You had us worried, Hugo!"
"I just came out the other exit, I'm sorry I worried you guys."
"Don't you ever make us worry about you like that again!" Quinn playfully punched Hugo in the arm.
"Alright, alright! No one else got hurt, right?"
"Nevermind that you missed the first akuma in a decade!"
"An akuma?" He looked confused, were they talking about his butterfly?
"Yeah, got turned into a supervillain and threw some kind of potion into the school and it exploded!" Percy imitated a large booming sound.
"Supervillain? It sounds like she saved the school."
"Yeah but she got turned into an akuma and akumas are bad news."
"I would hate for some creep to be in my mind, turning my emotions against me." Quinn shuddered, "My parents went through it and it still scares them."
Hugo went white as a ghost. Why were people seeing him as a villain? He wasn't a villain. He gave the principal a choice! So why were people looking at like she was a monster?
Felina hadn't expected to be covered in a sticky foam by the end of the day or for some new Hawkmoth to appear out of nowhere and stop her efforts. He looked around her age, but maybe it was just a trick to make him appear more innocent, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Not that it mattered, everyone was cheering Crimson Chevalier's name for purifying the akuma and saving the day. Felina was pissed, no one had even seen her or cheered her name, just Crimson Chevalier's. All that effort for nothing. Currently she was on the Eiffel tower, wiping off the last of the foam from her hair.
"Stupid Chevalier, stupid butterfly freak, stupid akuma, stupid foa-"
"What do you think you're doing?"
Towering behind her, was the Crimson Chevalier himself.
"Oh, hello, you must be Crimson Chevalier, I'm-"
"Felina, I know. I saw the video of you saving those people in the elevator."
"Oh good, then you must know I'm a miraculous holder like y-."
"You caused that accident, didn't you?"
"What?! How dare you, I would never…"
"The public may be blind, but I see you clearly."
"So what if I did? You can't prove I did it."
"You're right, but I'm not here to arrest you."
"Then why are you here, bugboy?" She pressed a finger into his chest.
"I'm here to offer a partnership." A smile formed beneath his helmet.
"A partnership?"
"Yes, as you know a new butterfly miraculous holder has appeared and just created the first akuma in decades."
"Why do you need me for? Didn't you beat it with ease, mr. big shot?"
"Technically, the akuma detransformed before I could fight it."
"So?"
"It means that they aren't as experienced as Hawkmoth and we can turn the public against them."
"Make people believe he's the villain while we build up our reputation as Paris' heroes."
"Exactly and if we team up, we'll have a better chance at putting them in their places and showing Paris who the true heroes are."
"Of course, there's always the chance I could accidentally hurt them in the scuffle." Felina's gloved fingers turned to claws, "Just give them a scratch or two."
"So, what do you say, kitty?" Crimson Chevalier extended his hand forward towards the black cat superheroine.
Felina thought for a moment, then smiled at the red and black hero.
"Glad to be working with you, bug boy."
It was the start of a terrible, horrible super partnership
