Disclaimer: I still don't own anything when it comes to Rizzoli and Isles, here's chapter two though, it's unknown of how long this story will be
Maura was at work in the early morning filling out her report on the victim that she was called about, it was a man dressed as Santa and he had no ID on him. She couldn't believe someone could harm a guy that dressed up as Santa, and worried that if any child heard about it on the news they would lose all their Christmas spirit. Maura wasn't usually so fond of Christmas, sure she got a lot of presents over the years from her parents, but they weren't exactly present themselves. She usually felt more alone during the winter holidays, which is why she is so grateful that she has a woman like Jane in her life, they kind of built up each other's spirit when it came to Christmas every year since they met and became good friends, and now girlfriends which made this year the best she felt around the holidays. Maura didn't want to lose this Christmas spirit just because of someone committing a murder of this kind, but it definitely made her question humanity as a whole even more.
Frankie came in the doorway of Maura's office, knocking gently, startling the woman who was deep in her thoughts. "Oh shit Maura, I didn't mean to scare you. I came to check up on you, you seemed really down since we met at the crime scene of Santa Clause."
"I just don't understand how someone could commit this kind of crime. Killing a Santa, do you have any leads?"
Frankie gave his head a shake, "Unfortunately not. Korsak is going through the database to figure out who he is though. Santa's must have fingerprints on record for when they volunteer to be Jolly Saint Nick. Are you going to be alright?"
"I think so, it's just upsetting, you know?"
"Yeah I do," he walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Korsak and I will do the best that we can to find out who did this. Is there anything that you need? Coffee from the café, it's almost morning."
Maura looked over at the time, not realizing that it was seven in the morning. "Make it tea and I'll join you."
Frankie smirked at her, "Deal."
Maura closed her laptop and files, following Frankie towards the elevator. The ride up was spent mostly in silence, Maura was in her thoughts and Frankie seemed to be as well. "How are you doing Frankie?"
"Me, I'm good, never better," Frankie shrugged, hands in his pockets. "Jane hasn't told you anything, has she?"
"What would she be telling me?"
"I had a little bit of a situation and Jane was helping me with it. Thought she'd confide in you to ask for your advice."
"Frankie, do you want my advice?" Maura raised a brow and the man shrugged just as the elevator door opened.
"I uh, maybe later," he shifted on his feet causing Maura to glance over at what had got Frankie acting off. He stepped off the elevator and Maura fell behind.
"Does it have to do with Barry Frost?" she asked quietly, and this caused Frankie to pause as said person approached them.
"Frankie, Doctor Isles, Merry Christmas Eve," Frost greeted them both with a smile.
"Good morning Frost, you seem to be in a good mood today," Maura smiled at the man.
"Yeah, I mean there's no reason not to be, y'know."
"Care to join us at the café? Didn't expect to see you working today."
"Thought I'd get some paperwork and things taken care of before I go on vacation for the rest of the year. I think I'm good, I had a big sized breakfast before I came to work. I'll um... see you both later," Frost nodded, looking straight at Frankie before turning on his heel and walking away.
"Alright Frankie, what happened between you and Frost? You didn't say even two words to him, and I definitely find that odd coming from you."
"We went out for dinner last night and it went alright," Frankie rubbed the back of his neck as he started to walk towards the café. "It felt nice, to talk to someone about things and well it kind of came out taking me off guard even," he sat down at one of the tables. "I'm not... you know but I enjoy his company, like a lot. I mean, it's Frost, you know and his past is quite complicated. But I guess I'm just sort of confused. I'm not exactly religious myself but Ma is, even though I mean she does support your relationship with Jane wholeheartedly. It's just... I'm conflicted to what I'm feeling, to what all of this means. I plan to figure it out while he goes on his vacation, part of me wants to go with him though to figure it out together, but part of me wants to forget the whole thing, but I can't even begin to tell Frost any of this. I don't want to hurt him, you know? He's the best friend I've ever had and it'd be a shame to lose him."
Maura nodded, "I see, well it seems like you have a lot to figure out. You know it took a while after Halloween before Jane and I made things official. We had a lot of discussions about the situation, we still do from time to time. Open communication is perhaps one of the most important things to a relationship or even a friendship. My advice to you is try to figure things out together, make sure you both remain on the same page during any new developments that come about," she reached over and patted his hand. "You have my support and I'm sure you have Jane's too."
Frankie nodded. "Thanks for your sound advice, it's no wonder why Jane enjoys your presence so damn much," he chuckled. "You know when I told Jane that we went out and I had a good time she clapped me on the back and said she was proud of me and she kind of sensed something between us and mentioned how she has the best observation skills and that I should always keep that in mind."
"Well I think you and Barry work well together so I'll be intrigued with how things progress. You'll keep me in the loop right?"
"I'll keep you in the loop because you can help me along the way if there are any issues or things I wouldn't mind confiding in you about. I trust your opinion above most."
"Well I'm honored that you feel that way. You definitely have my support with any developments. So you do plan to come over tonight right? We're having a Christmas eve celebration of sorts."
"Of course I'll be there since you and Jane are hosting it," Frankie smirked. "You ready for that tea now?
Maura nodded, "That I am."
Jane stretched out her arms as she woke up in the morning, she ran her hands over her face, grunting once she realized that Maura wasn't sleeping next to her. "Dammit, she must still be at work."
She rolled out of bed, changing out of her pajamas, she headed to the bathroom to give herself a look over. Jane noticed the warm smell of bacon wafting in the air. She came down the stairs to see Tommy and their mother shuffling in the kitchen.
Angela glanced up when she heard footsteps, "Oh Janie sweetie, there you are, did you sleep well?"
"Uh, I did actually, thanks for asking I didn't expect to see you here Ma, usually Christmas eve during the day you do the finishing touches on your Christmas shopping."
"Well I figured since you aren't working today you might have wanted some company, plus I got done a little earlier this year."
"Ma has been amazing, been telling me all these things that have happened since Pop divorced her. How she bounced back is incredible," Tommy grinned.
"You're such a mama's boy," Jane teased, nudging her brother in the side as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
"Don't tease your brother."
"It's alright Ma, I kind of deserve it," Tommy sat down on the stool.
"No one deserves to be teased."
"Maybe I'd treat my brother better if he didn't have a fascination with Maura."
Angela turned to her youngest, "I'm sure you'll find yourself a nice girl one day Tommy and then you can give me grandchildren since someone won't be able to," she gave a quick glance to her daughter and Jane just smiled.
"Aah I don't have to get pregnant, sometimes I'm thankful for my revelation on liking females."
"I didn't realize you would be so open about it," Angela added, completely surprised by her daughter's openness since she's always so reserved about these things usually. She fixes her and her children's plates for breakfast.
"Why hide it Ma? The month Maura and I tried to hide it she struggled not to break out into hives, it became too much. I care about her well-being more than my own, why hide it if she becomes miserable? She matters the most in the equation."
Angela slid Jane her plate, "Seems like I've raised you right. I'm proud of you Jane."
"Even though it took you a few days to accept."
"Yeah well Maura and I had a long talk one day, we discussed a lot of things. If you liked a girl, I'm glad that its Maura who you chose."
"Well Ma I didn't exactly choose Maura, it just happened naturally, and I couldn't be any happier."
"And I couldn't be happier for you both, now eat up we got a lot to do before Maura comes home."
Jane nodded, she hated how Maura had to work today, but Kent would be working for her tomorrow, so it kind of worked out. Plus Angela was right, there was a lot that needed to be done around the house still. Jane sighed, it was crazy of how much she missed Maura right now. Wondering if her partner felt the same way.
Maura had made it back down to her office after having a nice early morning in the café catching up with Frankie in all aspects of his life. She supported him and any decisions he'd make in the future as long as he was honest to his potential partner. He was like a brother to Maura, a brother she never had. She was grateful that she had a place in Jane's family.
She had turned her computer back on and was about to finish up some work when he phone rang, she glanced over and it was Jane trying to video chat her. Maura reached over and picked it up, "Good morning Jane."
"Hey Maura, I'm calling to see how things are going. Frankie told me there's some sort of Santa killer out there, what kind of person would do such a thing?"
"I'm uncertain, but Frankie and Korsak are following a really strong lead right now. I hope that they catch who did this, not a very good way to start off Christmas eve." She paused, before sighing. "I miss you Maura, it's amazing how much I can miss you in such a short amount of time."
"The feeling is very mutual, but soon I'll be heading home so you won't have to miss me so much."
"Can't wait until then."
"So what are you doing in the meantime?"
"Ma, Tommy and I are doing some Christmas finishing touches around the house amongst other things. And preparing for the whole Christmas Eve night we have planned for the family. You get to celebrate a true Rizzoli Christmas this year."
"Seems to me like this is a Rizzoli initiation of some kind," Maura spoke in a flirty tone, causing Jane's cheeks to become flushed.
"Uh you sure you want to be a Rizzoli? We're pretty crazy."
"A crazy family that I've come to cherish in every moment of our friendship turned relationship. I would love to be a part of it."
Jane felt her heart skip a beat at her girlfriend's words. "God I love you..." she spoke before realizing what she just said. "I um... I should probably get back to Ma before she calls me lazy."
"Jane, you don't have to go... I didn't get to, you know, add to your confession."
"You don't need to, it sort of just slipped out and I got to go. See you when you get home, alright," she managed to rush out her words before hanging up the video chat.
Maura just sat in her chair, shocked mostly by the fact that Jane hung up after saying those three words they haven't spoken to each other yet. Did Jane regret saying those words? Maura sincerely hoped not. She ran her fingers through her hair before rubbing at her face in frustration.
Hope you liked this new chapter, ended on a cliffhanger of sorts and I also hope you enjoyed the thing I have going on in Frankie's life. Maura bonding with Frankie is sweet, and Jane sort of likes hanging out with mother and Tommy (when he isn't hitting on Maura, of course) although she wouldn't completely admit it out loud.
