Searching

Last night was unexpected.

The events that have happened last night were chaotic. Tenten could still feel her heart beating fast. First was the sudden stunt Neji pulled then Lee came in and almost announced to the entire village about her and Neji.

Both of them acted fast and jumped on Lee to cover his mouth and stop him from screaming. Add to the fact that they had to stop Lee from crying so much. Everything happened so fast but the two were able to control the situation. Lee even promised to keep his mouth shut and not tell anyone about the current situation.

No one really knew about the two of them, well except for Lee. Neji and Tenten preferred to keep things between them. It's always been like that, so they didn't find the point of flaunting it.

Although that would soon change especially with what Neji had just said to her. Tenten could feel the heat rise her face. She instantly buried her face in her pillow and let out a muffled scream. Her heart was beating fast again, and she could feel her stomach doing summersaults and throwing kunai all over.

'Is he really sure about that?' Tenten thought as she laid on her back. It was a big deal. Going to a wedding and giving a gift together. It's like telling the world about them. Tenten had no problems about that, she was just thinking if Neji really thought it through.

"What am I saying? Of course, he's thought about it" Tenten scolded herself. She then got up and fixed her bed. She still had places to go, and she'd already spent enough time in her bed.

The training ground she was using was still empty. Tenten quickly grabbed the scroll strapped behind her. She was about to release a barrage of weapons when she felt a presence nearby.

"Good morning" Neji greeted as he approached her. Tenten couldn't help but smile, she turned in his direction smiled.

"Good morning" she greeted back. Neji looked at her and grabbed a kunai from his pack. Tenten gave a mischievous smile and summoned a kunai in her hand. No words were needed from the two to know what the other was thinking.

Neji smirked back and charged with kunai in his hand. The quiet morning of Konoha was filled with kunai clashing each other and disturbed birds flying away. Tenten dodged and would swing at him, but Neji would just block her. Their sparring looked like a practiced dance from afar. There were thoughts with their attacks, it was as if their reflex took over and created an intricate dance.

Tenten then jumped to dodge Neji's ground sweep to knock her down. Similar to a climax, everything slowed down around the two. Muscles were tightened with tension and the glimmer in their eyes shone as the morning sun rays decided to give them a spotlight.

In a snap, the two landed on two feet and were aiming their kunai at each other. There was a moment of silence before Tenten released her breathe. She quickly pulled the mini scroll on her wrists and summoned two water canteens. She handed one to Neji and downed hers quickly.

"Do you have anywhere to go after this?" Neji asked after drinking the water. Tenten looked at him and thought if she had any important schedules for today.

"Nothing really, I'll just head to the shop that's all" Tenten answered. There was a small smile on Neji's face. He dusted off his pants before looking back at her.

"Good, we can look for our gift," Neji said. Tenten stared at him, she could feel her face turning a shade of red. She looked away and absentmindedly fixed her hair. She tried calming herself by doing some breathing exercises to calm her heart.

"Sure" she mumbled while fiddling the scrolls on her wrist.

"Neji, Tenten!" someone called. Tenten turned around and saw it was Sakura.

"Sakura, what brings you here," Tenten asked.

"I was just walking by and saw the both of you, so I decided to come by" Sakura answered. "By the way, Tenten, Ino, and I thought we could have some girls' time later with Hinata," Sakura asked.

Tenten pursed her lips side-eyes Neji. He was just there silently standing. She then looked at Sakura and clapped her hand in front of her.

"I'll have to pass Sakura, I have somewhere to go today" Tenten declined, "but I'll be sure to join if there's a next time" Tenten added.

Sakura looked at her and at Neji. Her eyes widened a bit before smiling a teasing smile. Tenten raised her brow at Sakura, but Sakura just gave her a quick wink.

"It's ok Tenten, I'll the others you have something scheduled for today!" Sakura said, she gave a small thumbs up to Tenten before leaving the two.

"Shall we go?" Neji asked as he stood beside her. Tenten wasn't sure if Neji did something that made Sakura act like that or if she just sensed it. All Tenten knows is that Sakura's thoughts about them were close to true.

'I guess she and Lee know' she thought to herself before nodding at Neji and proceeding to walk.

Tenten and Neji walked along the streets of another village in search of a gift. It was a small village but there were many people there. Various shops were there, all selling different kinds of products. Tenten was sure they had already come here before for a mission since it was familiar.

"What kind of gift should we give them Tenten?" Neji asked as the two stopped by a nearby shop to buy some buns.

"I'm still thinking about it… who knew buying a gift for a newlywed couple would be hard" Tenten exclaimed as she threw her wrapper away. She was seriously thinking about what gift they should give Naruto and Hinata. For some reason, Tenten couldn't come up with an idea.

"Well, the village is filled with shops" Neji comments "I think we can find something here" he adds. Tenten looks at him and nodded. Maybe an idea would strike on her while browsing through the various shops around.

"Ok! Let's go find some gifts" Tenten said enthusiastically. Neji smiled at her and the two continued walking around.

The two entered a narrow sidewalk to reach some shops that were there. The street was crowded and Tenten had to squish herself from the people just to pass. It only made things hard when people were taller than her.

Then someone bumped on her. Tenten excused herself and tried to look for Neji. She looked around but couldn't see him. She squished herself past the people to head to the other end of the path. Neji was probably there waiting for her. Suddenly a handheld her hand. Tenten was about to pull her hand when she noticed it was Neji.

"I almost lost you," Neji said. Tenten was able to breathe she looked at Neji and smiled at him.

"You don't have to worry; I always find my way," Tenten said before holding Neji's hand. Neji just shook his and smiled. The two traversed the narrow path before entering a shop.

"Welcome!" the storekeeper greeted as the two entered the small shop.

The shop had various ornaments and pieces of jewelry of different kinds. The shop was lit with different colors as the light reflected from the jewels. Tenten noticed a pair of ruby earrings.

"We have some great rings for you couple here!" the storekeeper said as he approached them. Tenten looked at their hand and noticed it was still clasped together. She couldn't help but feel shy all of a sudden. She wasn't used to this kind of display of affection. All of these only used to happen behind closed doors and away from prying eyes. Tenten wasn't used to this, but it doesn't mean she doesn't like it.

"We're actually looking for a wedding gift" Tenten could hear Neji talk to the storekeeper. She let go of Neji's hand for a second to look around the store. The store didn't feel so small with all the things it sold. Tenten's mind was now wandering what they could give Naruto and Hinata. Despite the many options in front of her, she still couldn't think of a gift.

"Did you find anything?" Neji asked as he approached her. Tenten just shook her head and held her temple. There was the feeling of her head being patter, Tenten looked up and saw Neji looking at her.

"It's ok, there are many stores around here," Neji said. Tenten smiled at him and without any words, Neji's handheld hers again.

"I can't believe looking for a wedding gift is really "that" hard" Tenten commented as the two were now looking inside a new shop. The shop had glasses, plates, and home essentials.

"We can give them some utensils," Neji said as he picked a porcelain plate and looked at it. Tenten turned her attention to him and looked at the plate. She bit her lip and thought about it. Neji noticed her look and raised his brow at her.

"We can give them that, but don't you think it's… plain?" Tenten said while softly whispering the last part. Neji looked at the plate and sighed. She bit the inside of her cheek as she looked at his expression. Tenten was looking at some of Neji's body cues to know if she hit some nerve.

Neji just looked at her and that was enough for Tenten to retract her words and reach for the plate that Neji was about to put down.

"On second thought! I think we can get these plates and some more. It's practical and they can use it" Tenten said. Her heart was beating heavily, and she could feel her hands shake. Neji just scoffed and placed down the plate and looked at Tenten.

Neji didn't say a word and just looked at her. Tenten could see his pupils staring right into her soul. Even without activating his byakugan, she was sure that Nej could see right through her. It was as if he had her memorized inside out. She was starting to feel her legs turning into soft noodles because of Neji's silence and stare.

"Say something," Tenten said as she gritted her teeth. Her frustration and nervousness were now mixing. After a few moments, she could hear Neji chuckling. Tenten's mouth opened, and she quickly closed it and glared at him.

"I'm sorry but you just looked amusing earlier" Neji commented as his chuckling seized. This only made her pout at him. Tenten rolled her eyes and continued to look for possible gifts.

"But I do agree, just giving them, these would be plain," Neji said. Tenten side-eyed him and saw his calm face. He was just standing there looking at her. She could never resist him, even by just standing there her annoyance was gone. Tenten sighed and turned around to meet his eyes.

Neji smiled apologetically and offered his hand. Tenten looked at it and placed her hand on top. He gave a firm grip on her hand before turning to the exit. Tenten just shooked her head as the two exited another shop.

The two enjoyed their search for a gift. Neji rarely let go of Tenten's hand. Tenten slowly got used to it that whenever they exited the store their hands would automatically meet each other. Whenever the two saw a delicacy or snack, they'd try it before continuing their search. There was a spicy bao that they saw and tried. Neji and Tenten were confident that no amount of spice would match the curry of life they had before. Tenten would always laugh whenever she remembered how Neji's life would leave his eyes when he tasted it. The two were greatly proven wrong, after their first bite, they both tried to cough the spice away.

Neji's face was already so red and Tenten could notice his lips starting to get swollen. Neji was so adamant about drinking the milk the seller offered. Tenten went straight to the milk after her first bite, but Neji wanted to prove he could finish it without drinking some milk. As soon as he swallowed the last of the bao, his hands went directly to the milk and downed it. Tenten couldn't help but laugh at him as the two walked along the sunset-lit street of the city.

"It's almost nighttime and we still haven't found a gift," Tenten said as the two walked together. They'd each store they found but among those stores, the two weren't able to buy anything. It was the first wedding they'll be attending, and it would be a shame if they didn't give their friends a gift that was special to them.

"What are we going to do now, Neji," Tenten asked as she looked at him. The night was now dark, and streetlamps were slowly lighting up the village. It was still crowded but not as much as from the day. Tenten then looked at the streetlamp above them. The two stood below its light, it was like they were in a spotlight.

"We can head to one last shop and look" Neji answered her question. Tenten stopped for a while and stared at the streetlamp. She could feel Neji stopping behind her and staring at her back. Tenten's eyes widened, and she instantly looked around for a shop.

"Tenten, I-" Neji was about to say something but Tenten pulled his hand and ran to a shop she eyed. Tenten could feel every part of her body rejoice as she finally was able to think of a gift they could give them. She stopped in front of the shop and turned around to Neji with a big smile plastered on her face.

"Neji, I have an idea for a gift!"
