A cough came from the pink-haired alchemist as she lay in bed, trying to save her strength. Her health had gotten worse, but luckily she had a dear friend doing everything he could to help her.
"Hey, Vayne," said Jess upon seeing her friend walk into her room.
Her voice had gotten weaker, something Vayne had noticed, but refused to accept.
"Hey, Jess," replied the young man, returning the greeting as he set his bag down.
"How have things been, Vayne? Is Nikki doing well?"
She saw how Vayne's mouth twitched into a smile at the mention of his wife. "She's doing just fine. She should actually be ready to give birth to our fourth child any day now."
This caused Jess to let out a gasp. "Wh-What? Why are you here then? You should be home taking care of Nikki!"
"And Nikki would tell you that you don't need to worry about her and that your health is more important," replied Vayne.
A slight giggle escaped from Jess before she let out a few coughs, much to Vayne's fear.
"Ah, but still, in her condition she would need help taking care of the three kids you already have," stated Jess as she got over her coughing fit.
"You'd be surprised at how beastmen can handle their young," stated Vayne as he opened his bag and dug through it. "Now it's time for your checkup, Jess."
Ever since they graduated from the academy, Vayne had become and doctor to help find a way to cure Jess and she couldn't help but be thankful for having a friend like him.
She just knew he would find a way to help her and then she could visit him and Nikki to see those little babies they've been making.

I should really drag out my PS2 so I can play Mana Khemia again. I've never beaten it, but it's one of my favorite RPGs. One thing I like about it is that despite having multiple endings, depending on which character you completed their character quests for; none of the endings contradict each other. Meaning all of the endings are technically canon.
