Summary: The Lotus Ninjas face off against their yokai counterparts in a volleyball match to determine who will control the public beach.
In the Crete fortress, Lee's eye twitched continuously as she and her sisters were practicing their magic inside the dojo.
"Argh, it's official! I'm bored!" Lee exclaimed. "I can't believe mom is making us sit in the dojo alone making magic spells to no bitter end as if we have nothing better to do with our lives!"
Ellie was levitating a bonsai tree in mid-air, Ella was creating small orbs of red magical energy around with her finger, and Donna was typing on her phone. Lee's whining went fairly unnoticed to her older and younger sisters.
"Aww, poor Lee. Dramatic much?" Donna asked sarcastically.
"Oh, come on. We already know how to work our magic since we were kids." Lee said. "Let's ditch this fortress and go have fun."
"Lee, we're four powerful mystics living in New York. Where could we possibly go to have fun besides pizza restaurants?" Ella questioned.
That's when Lee's phone rang. She stared at the screen and put out a mischievous grin.
"Girls, you're in luck because we've been invited by Grandma Raven herself." Lee said. She turned around and showed her phone to her sisters. "Check. It. Out!"
Donna, Ella, and Ellie looked at the phone that revealed a familiar location.
"Uh, Mystic Lagoon?" Ellie questioned. "Why would she want us there?"
"Hey, who cares. It's a great excuse to get out of this fortress, so let's go have the time of our lives!" Lee said with a smile.
At the Mystic Lagoon, the Lotus Ninjas had arrived right in front of a small, extravagant beach cottage in their swimsuits.
"Welcome, girls." Raven and Azazel greeted.
The Lotus Ninjas looked pleased with star-eyed smiles. They all walked inside through an ornate tropical room.
"We rented this place to spend together as family." Azazel said. "You know, after restoring our daughter and all."
"I would've contacted your mother, but she has her daily meditation like she always does." Raven added. "What a spiritual woman. So, feel free to enjoy yourselves and have fun."
"Time to hit the beach!" Alisa smiled as she jumped onto Azazel's back in her swimsuit.
The lagoon beach is scattered with people and beach tents. There are some smaller and larger beach bungalows around the area. Lee, Ella, Donna, and Ellie walked along the beach through crowds of beach-goers. Raven and Azazel huddled together under an umbrella while their daughter Alisa was building an elaborate sand castle.
The Lotus Ninjas were sitting together on their folding beach chairs.
Then suddenly, male mystics and yokais surrounded the mystic kunoichis. Some of them were drooling on them while most of them were serving delicious food and drinks.
"Thank you, Grandma Raven!" The Lotus Ninjas cheered happily.
From their beach tents, four mysterious yokai foxes with cat-like eyes and nine tails quietly observed the Lotus Ninjas relaxing from afar. The oldest yokai fox has bright scarlet fur, long curly red hair, blue eyes, and wore a dark teal swimsuit. The second oldest yokai fox has golden blonde fur, brunette chin-length hair, green eyes, and wore a purple swimsuit. The second youngest yokai fox has platinum blonde fur, black hair tied in a loose French braid, blue eyes, and wore a light blue swimsuit. And the youngest yokai fox has strawberry-blonde fur, blonde hair tied into two braided pigtails, turquoise-blue eyes, and wore a magenta-pink swimsuit.
"Looks like those mystics are having a good time with the boys." A golden blonde yokai fox spoke.
"No wonder they were nowhere to be find when we got here." A strawberry-blonde yokai fox whined.
"I say we check them out." A platinum blonde yokai fox said.
"Yeah, let's have some fun with them." A bright scarlet fox yokai agreed with a devious smile.
The Lotus Ninjas are still relaxing from their chairs in enjoyment.
Alisa ran up to Ellie and held a seashell in her hands.
"Hey, Ellie. Look what I've found." Alisa smiled.
"Wow, it looks so rare." Ellie smiled back. "Go show it to Raven and Azazel."
"Okay." Alisa said with a nod.
Alisa ran off to her parents, showing them a rare seashell that she found.
Suddenly, four female yokai foxes stood in front of the Lotus Ninjas. Lee, Ella, Donna, and Ellie lowered their sunglasses to stare at the yokai fox quartet.
"Hey, what gives?" Lee asked. "Can you help you?"
"You three must be those magic-wielding mystics." The red yokai fox said with a condescending smile. "We're the kitsune quartet. I'm Garnet. These are my sisters: Amethyst, Sapphire, and Citrine. And let allow us to share something really important with you mystics. This lagoon and every boy here belong to us and us only."
"Wow, snobby much?" Donna remarked.
"Are they real? I own this lagoon fair and square." Ellie said as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"I don't think so. We just acquired this island two weeks ago." Amethyst said. She held up the deed with one of her tails. "To enjoy our fun today. So, do us a favor and poof right on out of here."
Ella lifted her hand and blew magical fire that burned the deed and some of Amethyst's hair.
"My hair! My hair! My hair!" Amethyst screamed as she began patting her hair.
The Kitsune Quartet turned back to glare at the Lotus Ninjas.
"How dare you." Citrine snapped.
"And to think we were foolish to try and be civil with you unruly mystics." Sapphire barked.
Ella then jumped off her chair and butted heads with Garnet.
"Shut up! You wanna go, then go!" Ella snapped back. "We don't listen to vixens who's all talk and no bite!"
Garnet growled angrily, but Ella chuckled and moved away from her.
"But how about we settle this?" Ella asked as she placed her hands on her hips. "You four mystics against me and my sisters."
"Heh, you must be joking." Garnet said with a grin. "But we accept your challenge. And I know just how to settle this."
Garnet simply spiked the volleyball and it landed in front of the Lotus Ninjas.
Every mystic and yokai swarmed around the volleyball court with the Lotus Ninjas on one side and the Kitsune Quartet on the other while Azazel was the referee of the game.
"Point goes for yokais." Azazel spoke.
"Seriously? We're actually settling this in a volleyball game?" Lee questioned.
"Hey, as long as we get to have some fun with these vixens, I ain't complaining." Ella grinned with a shrug.
"Heh, someone's already getting cocky at the start of the game." Garnet grinned back. "Let's do this."
Citrine served the volleyball, but Donna hit it with a smirk. The volleyball came to Ellie, who hit it up farther over the net.
"Lee!" Ella shouted.
Lee sprang up in the air and hit the volleyball over to the yokai's side like a fast bullet past Amethyst and Sapphire.
"Point goes for mystics!" Azazel called out.
"Oh? Did we hit the ball too hard for you?" Ellie teased.
"Sorry, but not sorry." Donna mocked.
The Kitsune Quartet turned away from the Lotus Ninjas.
"I see." Amethyst said calmly. "They appear to have strength and reflexes, even without using their magic."
"Which means we definitely have to step up our game if we're gonna beat them." Sapphire added as she placed her hands on her hips.
Ella served the ball over the net, but Garnet put her hands together and sent it to Citrine, who shot it right pass the Lotus Ninjas. Both teams showed off their athleticism whenever they can during an average game of volleyball. Eventually, the first round went to the Lotus Ninjas: 21 to 18.
"Aww, tried already?" Lee taunted in a smug tone.
"We're not even breaking a sweat here." Ella said with a grin.
Garnet looked at her sisters as they all grinned mischievously.
Garnet served the volleyball.
"All mine." Ella said cockily.
But the volleyball went right past Ella and fell to the sand before she could even touch it.
"Huh?" Ella said in confusion.
Sapphire served the volleyball, causing it to hit past Lee.
"How the...?" Lee exclaimed.
Sapphire served the volleyball and this time it swerved out of the way from Lee.
"What's going on?" Lee asked.
The volleyball suddenly hit Lee in the face that knocked her down. Lee skillfully got back up on her feet with a furious look on her face.
"Are you kidding me?" Lee growled.
Ella, Lee, Donna, and Ellie tried everything they can to spike back the volleyball, but they unsuccessfully couldn't get a hit on the ball despite their speed. Surprisingly, the second round went to the Kitsune Quartet: 12 to 0.
"Okay, first, we were doing fine and now we're losing?!" Donna said irritatedly.
"Oh, come on. What's the matter?" Amethyst asked innocently as her sisters grinned smugly from behind. "Intimidated with our devised serve?"
"Oh, I think I can get it now." Ella said with a small grin.
Amethyst served the volleyball to the Lotus Ninjas. But Ella unexpectedly caught the ball with one hand and simply crushed it that revealed pieces of a crystal ball on the sand, releasing the Kitsune Quartet's illusion trick.
Garnet, Citrine, Amethyst, and Sapphire narrowed their eyes in growling anger.
Donna sneakily conjured a ball-sized bomb from her hand and casted an illusionary spell that transmuted it into a volleyball.
"It's our serve now." Donna said.
Donna served the ball over the net. Citrine and Sapphire simply evaded the bomb, allowing Amethyst the opportunity to slice it into pieces with her claws. But unfortunately, the bomb instantly detonated and scorched the yokai foxes.
"What's the meaning of this?! You got some nerve planning that bomb into the court?!" Garnet accused angrily. "You're not playing fair!"
"Look who's talking! You and your sisters were losing so bad that you have to pull off your stupid illusion spell to win!" Ella countered. "So, how's that fair?!"
Garnet and Ella butted heads again with more force.
Citrine took the chance and jumped up with a flip. She tossed the regular volleyball into the air and spiked it hard past the Lotus Ninjas that created a sizable crater in the sandy ground on the mystics' side of the court.
Then, the Kitsune Quartet's eyes started glowing devilishly.
"Looks like we don't have a choice." Garnet declared as she was spinning the volleyball on her finger. "I think it's about time we use our full strength anymore, ladies." She let out a smug smile. "The final round decides the winner...magic vs. magic."
"Best idea I've heard all day coming from you." Lee said energetically. "Let's get this game on!"
As the final match begins, both teams began serving the volleyball to score points by using their best techniques they can. Sapphire engulfed the volleyball with white energy from her head and sent it flying with a swing. Ellie made her hand glow in bright orange magic and grabbed the volleyball before sending it back with brutal force. Amethyst and Garnet sent the volleyball back in a baseball bat style when they kicked it with their tails. Donna and Lee blocked the volleyball with magic shields. Red, blue, purple, orange, teal, white, yellow, and pink lights flew all around across the sky as the game raged on intensely. Both teams moved so fast even Azazel was able to catch any movement. Team Lotus Ninjas and Team Kitsune Quartet panted heavily as they looked at the score board, where the final round eventually came to the last point for both teams: 20 to 20.
"One more point decides the winner!" Azazel said.
Garnet hit the volleyball and stumbled backward to the sand.
"Girls!" Garnet called out.
Sapphire and Amethyst cupped their hands together, allowing Citrine to jump on. They then propelled their youngest sister into the air.
"You certainly entertained us, but now it's over." Garnet said with a cocky smile.
Citrine hit the volleyball hard over the net that went diving past Donna and Lee.
"Ellie!" Ella yelled.
Ellie charged at the volleyball and hit it with a forcing strength. The volleyball shot back up high in the sky that knocked Ellie back to the sand from the force.
"Donna, Lee, you're up!" Ellie shouted.
"We're on it!" Lee grinned.
Lee and Donna flipped an upside-down position and then propelled Ella into the air once the red mystic kunoichi jumped on their feet.
"Go for it, sis!" Donna said to Ella.
Ella soared up high to meet the volleyball just as a bright red heart-shaped birthmark manifested on her forehead.
"Game over, losers!" Ella hollered.
Ella hit the volleyball super hard as a final spike, shooting it straight past through the Kitsune Quartet. The final spike created a massive star-shaped crater in the sand behind them completed with red, blue, purple, and orange star-shaped rings rising up into the air above the beach.
The Kitsune Quartet reeled collectively in shock at their losing defeat.
"Did...did we lost?" Garnet muttered.
"Yes. Yes, we did." Sapphire, Citrine, and Amethyst replied.
"That's right. We won fair and square." Ella said proudly.
"Well, that was fun." Lee said as she was stretching her arms. "I told you girls leaving the fortress was the best idea."
"But before we continue our relaxation, we got a little something." Donna said.
"Let's just say it'll hit you with a big bang." Ellie joked.
Donna threw the bomb straight into the air like a baseball pitcher. The bomb landed right in front of the Kitsune Quartet, blowing up into a massive explosion and sending the four yokai foxes to off in the sky with hollering screams. They disappeared into the roof side of the large lake.
The Lotus Ninjas stared up at the roof lake with victorious smiles.
"See ya!" Ellie shouted with a childlike wave.
