Luz wasn't having the time of her life right now. The human from the Earth realm was sitting in the dining room at Blight manor having dinner with her girlfriend, Amity Blight and her family; Her mother Odalia, her father Alador and her chaotic twin siblings, Emira and Edric. The human was invited to the Blight manor so Amity's family could meet their daughter's first girlfriend. But the unfortunate part was Odalia was not aware of who her daughter was dating. I mean, she knew her daughter had a girlfriend, but she didn't know it was the same person who almost ruined her chance to sell robotic abominations to investors so of course she'd be mad at her daughter's choice of significant other.

It had been 6 minutes since Odalia's abomination waiters handed the family and Luz their dinner which was some kind of meat which looked like a steak with a side of what looked like blue mash potatoes and purple carrots with some kind of green liquid that looked like gravy.

Odalia was narrowing her eyes at Luz, who was trying her best not to barf up the meal she had been given while Amity was trying to keep a calm composure while Alador was enjoying his meat while the twins were revelling in the chaos.

"Who do you think is going to snap first?" Emira asked her twin brother.

"I have bets on mittens." Edric replied.

"Eh, Mom has a serious temper. I have bets she'll snap first." Emira commented.

"Just wait till one of them tries to awkwardly make conversation." Edric said.

"You two, will you stop revelling in this awkward chaos?" Alador whispered to his twin children.

And so, after a few more minutes of the awkward silence, Odalia decided to try and make conversation. "So Luz, how do you like the meat?" Odalia asked.

"Well, compared to the stuff I ate here, it's not bad." Luz replied. "What is it? Tastes like steak."

"It is giraffe meat." Odalia replied. "They have been very limited ever since giraffes left this realm many years ago to reside in your human realm."

Luz froze at Odalia's response and appeared she was going to throw up, but she quickly swallowed her meat just to impress her girlfriend's mother and not look like a fool.

"So, just a curiosity, what's for dessert?" Luz asked.

"It will be Edric's favourite, fairy pie." Odalia replied.

"Oh….Fairy pie." Luz replied awkwardly while pulling the collar of her shirt. Even though Luz didn't try fairy pie, she was put off by it simply because it was pie with fairies in it. I mean, what was she? Some creepy pale guy with eyes in his hands from some dark fantasy movie?

"You do like fairy pie? Right, Luz?" Odalia asked.

"Of course I do." Luz lied.

"Do you Luz?" Amity asked her girlfriend. "Cause, you didn't seem interested in it when I offered it to you when you returned to Hexside."

"I was." Luz lied. "I mean, I wouldn't turn down a gift from an awesome girlfriend."

"She's lying." Edric whispered to his sister.

"Do I look dumb?" Emira asked. "She's not very good at it."

"Can I ask you two a question?" Odalia asked. "How did you two end up together?"

"Well, it was a strange incident." Luz replied.

"Yeah." Amity confirmed.

"I kidnapped your daughter so Luz could ask her out!" Informed the voice of Hooty, who showed up behind Odalia, causing her to summon abominations to defend herself.

"Hooty!" Luz exclaimed. "What are you even doing here?!"

"I came here to apologise." Hooty replied feeling threatened by the Abominations. "But it appears I can't apologise or help so I'll just be leaving. Hoot. See ya later Luz." Hooty started to reverse out of the recently broken window he slithered into. "Good luck trying to impress your girlfriend's mom, Luz!"

The sudden appearance of Hooty kind of made everyone shaky since they didn't exactly expect him to show up and be Hooty.

"Wait a minute, how did he break the glass without it making a sound?" Amity asked.

"Well, it does kind of explain the sharp pain in my shoulder." Edric said while pulling a small glass shard from his shoulder.

"So, you hired Hooty to kidnap my daughter so you could ask her out?!" Odalia asked, a little angry.

"No, it wasn't like that." Luz protested. "I mean, I wanted to ask your daughter out but I didn't want Hooty to kidnap her and force us in a tunnel of love."

"Look, it wasn't Luz's fault." Amity said.

"Kind of is." Odalia retorted. "She wanted to ask you out, hence she gave Hooty the suggestion to capture you."

"Hey, it was unintentional!" Luz retorted.

"Oh, Mom snapped." Edric said. "You were right. What do I need to do?"

"Maybe you can introduce me to that special someone." Emira suggested.

"Okay, anything but that." Edric requested.

"Really?" Odalia queried. "Because-"

"Odalia, you promised Amity you wouldn't." Alador interjected while narrowing his eyes at his wife. Sure Odalia was technically the boss of the family, but Alador wasn't afraid to stand up to his wife from time to time.

"You're right Alador." Odalia said. "Forgive me for that brief outburst, Luz. But I'm trying to control myself since I need to respect my daughter's choices in life. Even if her choice in significant other is very unconventional."

"What do you mean unconventional?" Amity asked her mother.

"While I wasn't expecting your orientation, I didn't expect you to be with a human." Odalia explained. "Hence, why it's unconventional."

"You mean unconventional in a good way or a bad way?" Luz asked her possible future mother-in-law.

Odalia took a deep breath to keep her calm composure. Oh jeez, did she really hate that human for almost ruining her company and ruining her daughter. "I guess in a good way." Odalia replied before going back to her meal.

Once again, the silence spoke volume. I mean, you could cut the tension with a knife.

"So, how are things at Hexside?" Alador asked to try and break the awkward silence.

"They're alright." Luz replied. "Learning a lot."

"Like a love potion for my daughter?" Odalia mumbled.

"Mom!" Amity exclaimed in annoyance.

"Well, she could be for all we know." Odalia said.

"Well, we do make love potions but we don't use demon subjects, we only use animal subjects." Luz replied. "Didn't expect a bird and bug to have that kind of affect."

Once again the silence was taking over the dining room with Luz and Amity awkwardly eating their meals along with Odalia and Alador. But Edric and Emira were once again, enjoying the awkward tension that was taking place.

"This is brilliant." Emira whispered to her brother.

"This is so worth it that I'm not bothered about my shoulder bleeding." Edric whispered back.

"We should get that looked at." Emira whispered.

"I agree."

And so, the Blights and their guest continued to eat their dinner letting the awkward tension fill the air.
