In the ruined world where Tokyo previously stood, in a Netherworld where sand and drought created a vortex of ruination, a Nahobino suddenly appeared. He was a man of a spry 18 years of age. When he was human, his hair was short and raven-colored. With the union of God and Man, which formed an entity known as a Nahobino, he turned into a slender yet tall figure with hair that flowed in the air made blue. Due to circumstances he was unaware of, he was now stuck in a destroyed and devastated Tokyo filled with demonic creatures. The way back home felt so far for him, even with his newfound powers.
A little figure followed the man. She was about a tenth of his size. Whenever he walked, the little figure flapped her small bird-like wings to follow him. When he ran, those little wings had as much power to keep up with his augmented strength. Her name would be Amanozako. A navigation demon, as Nahobino put it, as she had helped him to find rare and unique curios hidden across the barren land of Tokyo.
"So," Amanozako started. Whenever she started asking with that curious tone, the Nahobino named Char Aznable knew she would pose a question. "Why do you only keep female demons around?"
This conversation ought to be the product of his past actions. Char had considered the possibility that Amanozako would say that. Thinking back, she had a point. He did only ever keep around the girls. Any demons that didn't look close to humanoid females in shape were soon fused to become one for his convenience.
He had done so when facing the Hydra with Leanan Sidhe that had joined him and the Apsaras that he made through fusion. Even after that, he only kept around demons that were noticeably female-shaped as well. On his part, it was done unconsciously, but it was in some way a concern for the party which casually trailed after him.
Leanan Sidhe, who floated closely behind Char, was now floating on her side beside him. She looked at him slyly in a sleeping lion position; elbow below the hand which held the side of her crown.
"Is that true, Nahobino?"
That was what the demon in the black dress called Char. She was the newest addition to the party, who joined his party with a lot more experience and prowess than him, and so had not had the moment to call him as her equal yet. Nevertheless, it was good for Char as most of the demons in his party were either too overbearing or were just too subservient for his taste.
Hearing Leanan Sidhe of all demons striking such a question in response meant that she wanted to open herself up to him. That was his chance, he guessed, to become a better companion for her to stay with.
"It's not that I discriminate against demons by their body shapes or forms or anything," Char started. "It's just that having a female companion sounded better to me than a naked child devil and a monstrous blob."
"Ah, yes, those kinds of demons were never that great for long conversations."
This time, it was the Pixie who chimed in. She held the title of the senior member of the party, and she repeatedly insisted that she was not as old as the other girls made her out to be. Char had showered her a lot with gifts that Amanozako found, which made her a bit stronger each time she received them, and was no doubt the strongest out of them all with her sets of skills and proficiency as she knew a lot of spells that a Pixie wasn't able to learn. To picture her on a scale of power alone, she would be on par with Char himself.
"As expected of the esteemed partner of the Nahobino himself," Apsaras said in response. "But that answer does posit another question; Would you keep us around forever as you did your Pixie?"
"That depends," Char motioned. "If I'm ever in a pinch and the foes before me were too great for me to defeat, I'd have to call forth a stronger demon in your place. Would that be fine?"
"That would be in our favor, my dear Nahobino," Leanan Sidhe placed her fingers against Char's cheeks. "Please don't be reserved and mold us into your desired female in the future. One that can express a beautiful legend behind it. That would be my greatest joy; to become the best demon in our image."
"My goodness, you temptress, do you ever get tired of acting like a metrosexual hussy?" Apsaras, not wanting to be done in by Leanan Sidhe, offered her counteroffensive. "You should strive to be a strong and charismatic figure who could lead the lost. To become the pillar of power and morality for the weak. That is what an ideal demon should look like."
"Don't you mean what a power-hungry cult leader would look like?" Leanan Sidhe was not too fond of her backhanded insult, and striked when the iron was still hot with a prideful snide. "You just want to hide your self-serving and grander than life nature, right? I can see through your vile deception."
"And you're just a selfish and coddled princess who knew nothing of how the weak felt." Apsaras calmly presented her rebuttal. "They were born in an oppressive and heartless environment. It would be right to guide and protect them as our duty; for we are strong and capable of it."
Leanan Sidhe clicked her tongue.
"Those kinds of altruism just don't fly with me, sister. If you truly cherish them, you would train them to become independent. You're only amassing a cult of followers! An army of brainless sheeps to the slaughterhouse!"
This time, Apsaras was the one who clicked her tongue.
"Then what about you, sister? You only see potential in demons who are already strong in the first place. I bet you just want to guide some hapless eccentrics from a pool of strong demons with the aim to have them be grateful for your "guidance", right? Talk about manipulative and abusive!"
"Girls, calm down!" Char reassured, as he grinned from one ear to the other. "I'm sure if we talk things through with this, we could come to a suitable compromise for the both of you."
"If you said so, Nahobino," Leanan Sidhe relented. Then she smirked, as she remembered the time they previously spent before being partners. "But it'd make me happy if you cherish my opinion over hers, just like you did the first time."
"Oh can it why don't you," Apsaras rolled her eyes, which were more often than not closed, as she spat a tone of disgust. "I'm sure our leader would agree with me this time. He specifically took the time to summon me. An effort that required much, much more effort than summoning you!"
"Girls, calm down! I'm always here for you both, don't worry!" Char hastily came between them, and sighed, relieved that they stopped their bickering. "Look, let's just talk it out, okay? I cherish the both of you so much that I don't want to see you fight each other."
"Fine," Leanan Sidhe huffed.
"Let's agree to disagree this time," Apsaras followed.
"Thank you, the both of you." Char smiled, and both of the girls were content with seeing his bright disposition. "Now, let's continue our trek. Muh Shuvuu said we could see the golden dragon closer. The mermaid also said there would be a Goddess living in a spring up here. I can hardly contain myself right now."
While the trio moved ever so upward, Pixie hung slightly back and whispered to Amanozako.
"So, did that answer your question?"
"Yeah," Amanozako answered. "He just wanted a harem for himself! What a sly bastard!"
