My Equestrian Archives: Breaking Dawn
Ch.1: 6 Months Later
As the months went by, I found myself in a happy position. Me and Sunset were "Going steady." Cozy had not been adopted just yet, as Princess Celestia wanted to make sure Sunset got along with her.
June 4th, 2022 was to be a supervised visit. Me, Sunset, and Cozy were going on a picnic with Shining Armor and Flurry. Cadence could not make it, having Princess business. Oddly, as I woke up, Twilight was gone too on business.
Confused, me and Sunset made our way downstairs, where Spike was watching the news. "Hey Spike" I smiled, sitting down next to him as Sunset shuffled lazily into the kitchen for coffee.
"Where's Twilight?"
Spike smiled, shaking his head. "Gone on a trip. She said not to expect her for a few days."
I could only chuckle. "Alright."
"So, are you and Sunset seeing Cozy today?" Spike asked, as Sunset returned to the room, holding two cups of Joe. She smiled and kissed my cheek, before sitting down next to me.
I nodded. "We're supposed to meet up with her and Shining at Noon. If this visit goes well" I smiled softly, "We may be getting custody."
Spike smiled, leaning back. He then looked concerned. "Wait- Flurry- has she seen Cozy since she got reformed?"
I went to respond, only for Sunset to beat me to the punch. "Yes. But Shining's being cautious about it."
Truly, that day I would learn something important about kids- they can be some of the greatest friends you will ever have.
Around 11:30, me and Sunset departed the Castle. I held a wicker basket in my right hand, and Sunset's hand in my left.
"Okay" I said. "Shining said to meet them at Ponyville Park." Sunset smiled.
"That's got a lot of fun stuff. You know Flurry will wanna play."
I nodded. We soon turned a corner right past Surgarcube Corner's, where Cheese Sandwich was swiping the stairs with a broom. He tipped his hat, humming to a song.
The road we took soon veered left, displaying a kids dream- slides and swings and merry go rounds galore. I took a deep breath, honestly a bit nervous. How had Flurry taken to Cozy?
I smiled as we saw Shining and Cozy entering from the other side. Cozy held a basket of her own full of toys. Sand toys. I smiled further as Cozy, and Flurry appeared to be getting along well.
I walked over, reaching into my back pockets. "Okay girls. I have a surprise for you two. But I first have a question"
"What is it?" The girls asked in unison.
"Have you two been good for Shining?"
They nodded. I looked to Shining, who agreed.
I smiled as I handed them each a candy bar. Cozy smiled at it but frowned as she saw Flurry's was smaller. "Here" she offered, breaking off part of hers and giving it to Flurry. Flurry beamed. "Thanks Cozy!" she said, before sneezing. Suddenly, Shining's voice began to sound like a filly. It took everything I could not to laugh.
Shining lit his horn and recovered his voice. I smiled as we all sat in a shaded area.
After about half an hour, we were content. Ham and Cheese sandwiches and chips. Yummy. Cozy looked over at me. "David, can you push me on the swing set?"
I nodded, lifting her up. I then decided to pull a joke and fell to one knee. "Oof. Too strong. I need assistance"
Cozy grinned. "You're faking"
I grinned, getting up. "Yup, my 11-year-old friend." I brought her over to the swing-set as Sunset brought Flurry over to a seat. "How fast do you wanna go?"
Cozy thought for a moment, then grinned evilly. "Really, really fast"
I thought for a moment but knew she could fly. Sunset smiled. "She'll be fine"
I nodded and pushed my feet forward as if the seat was a sumo wrestler. After running back, I let Cozy go. Cozy giggled as she began to go high in the air, the set holding steady at the kids' fun.
Sunset smiled. "For someone who didn't want kids, you do an excellent job."
Cozy gasped. I immediately brought the seat back down. "Hon, what are you thinking right now?"
Cozy looked down. "T-that you don't want me."
I frowned. "That's far from the truth Cozy. I have always wanted kids. But I can't well...have kids by blood. If anyone tells you I don't want kids, it's not true."
"Do you promise David?" she asked.
I nodded. "I promise Cozy. I will never hurt you or abandon you."
Cozy smiled as me and Sunset hugged her. "But what about Sunset? Doesn't she have to go home?"
Sunset quickly shook her head. "Eventually. To get my things anyway. But my home is in Equestria."
Cozy then asked the question.
"David. What if you can go home?"
I spoke softly. "Sometimes in life, one finds their home in a place they never expected. While I miss my family and would do everything in my power to see them again, I refuse to abandon the friends I've made here."
"Am I your friend, David?"
"You are, Cozy"
We would spend the day at the park, before going our separate ways. Tirek smiled as Shining returned to Canterlot Castle with Cozy and Flurry, where Tirek waited. "How was the visit?"
Shining smiled. "They're gonna make great parents. Speaking of which, where's Cadence?"
Tirek frowned. "She said for you not to wait up. She's in an important meeting"
That would become a question over that next week- what secret remained behind those doors, to be unlocked when the time was right?
It was two Saturdays later that Sunset, and I would have tears in our eyes in the Throne Room as Celestia granted us custody and guardianship of Cozy Glow. Many thoughts srung through my head, but one rang more than anything else...
Cozy would be going to school.
