Ch.2: Schoolgirl

On that Monday, I awoke up at 6 that morning, chuckling as Sunset snored softly next to me. Getting up, I walked over to the window and looked up, as the sun was slowly raised. I could feel it in my bones. Today would be a good day.

Quietly walking downstairs, I began to brew the old Joe, not hearing the adorable yawn of Cozy at first. Hearing it the second time, I turned around, smiling at her in the Pajamas Rarity had made her.

I then looked concerned as she frowned. "David? What if no one at school likes me?"

I walked over to her, squatting down. "Cozy, do you think they hate you?"

She nodded. "I had a nightmare that Apple Bloom grew into a monster and chased me"

I frowned and pulled her into a hug. "No one will do that. Hon, I'm sure things will be awkward. But fear not. I don't think things will always be that way. Just be yourself."

Cozy nodded. "Thanks Dad-David" she corrected with a giggle.

I could not help but tear up a bit inside. This young lady had become much to me in those previous few months.

It was heartwarming.

"Okay" Sunset said as she turned to Cozy right outside Ponyville Schoolhouse. "I want you to have fun today. If anyone tries to bully you, tell Cherilee. Okay?"

Cozy nodded. "I will Sunset. I promise."

Sunset hugged her and headed off. She had begun to work with Lyra at her candy shop. It was a joke that Sunset and I competed against each other.

Anyway, Cozy stepped nervously into the classroom, seeing the eyes of Sweetie Belle immediately. Cozy frowned. She had badly hurt her. Her mind became focused on the visions from the previous night- a desolate and rainy wasteland as Cherilee chased her down.

Noticing Cozy, Cherilee came over. "Are you alright dear?" she asked. Cozy's mind began to conjure up images of Cherilee- Vicious fangs snarling down at her.

Cozy proceeded to do what kids do in fear- she ran. Ran far away.

Cherilee sighed sadly as she looked at her. "Poor kid."

"How can you say poor kid?" Silver Spoon asked. "She tried to destroy Equestria."

The look Cherilee gave her made Silver squirm in her seat. "That may be true. But she has worked hard to become a better pony. I don't know what's bothering her, but I know that I don't like that tone of yours Silver. I'm going to find her, and when I get back, you better have an apology for her"

As Cherilee went to leave, Apple Bloom trotted over. "Can I go with?"

Cherilee smiled. "All right. But you still have to do the worksheets when we return."

Apple Bloom chuckled.

The two would find Cozy sitting underneath an Apple Tree at Surgarcube Corners, weeping under a tree. Cherilee frowned, letting Apple Bloom go ahead.

Apple Bloom calmly approached Cozy. "Hey, Cozy? Why'd yah leave school?"

Cozy looked up at her. "I-I had a nightmare that Miss Cherilee would chase me down and kill me. A-and- "

Apple Bloom frowned as she sat next to Cozy, putting a hoof around her.

"And you all laughed" Cozy sighed.

"I'm scared, Apple Bloom. That you all hate me, and that you guys will bully me."

Cozy's eyes widened as she felt Apple Bloom hug her. "Never ever Cozy. We forgave yah long ago"

Cherilee trotted forward. "Cozy, I would be honored to be your teacher. It may not be for long at your age, but I promise to be the best teacher I can be. The day I even raise my voice at you is the day I fail"

Cozy looked up, wiping her tears. Cherilee nodded, joining the hug. Cozy was hesitant of course, but that soon subsided into a smile.

Things would take time. But she would be okay.

Me and Sunset waited outside the Schoolhouse at 3 that afternoon, waiting impatiently as the last few seconds ticked down. We beamed as Cozy came out with a genuine smile, chatting with Diamond Tierra.

"So, did you have a good day?" Sunset asked. Cozy nodded. "Say, Diamond invited me over. Is that okay?"

Me and Sunset looked at each other, then turned back to her. "Yes. Be home at 6, okay?"

Cozy nodded, skipping off. I smiled. "She's making friends. You know what she called me this morning, Sunset?"

Sunset smiled. "I overheard. I just can't wait for the day we have our own place- and even get a cat."

I smiled. That night, however, would begin the next few days- days that would change our lives forever.

It all began at 5:30. Twilight had called me and Sunset into the living room, where she stood with Cadence. Both had solemn expressions.

"Sunset, David, you need to come with us."

"The statue in Pandestria is about to break completely..."
