Chapter 15

Battles of Determination

The Class 1-L students arrived at their seat box to prepare to watch their classmates Eli and Tatsumi fight in the next match. Though Yuki Drago was not there for some reason. Probably to get ready for his next match.

"The tournament continues!" The next match is between the bug master of many forms! Ellix Francisco Barbaros versus Tatsumi Kurate!" Present Mic exclaimed, getting the crowd excited.

Both guys came out of the hallways and stood on the battlefield.

Tatsumi pulled out his Mix Driver, which turned into a belt as he attached it around his waist. He then took out bottles and inserted them into the driver's slots.

"Electricity! Earphone! Best Mix!" The driver talked in its voice. "Mixing Time!"

"What's happening?" Felicia asked.

"I don't know," Arisa responded.

Tatsumi's belt shined in a swirling color in the middle of the driver's center buckle.

"It's mixing time! Rock n' Roll! Let's go! Kamen Rider Mix!"

Tatsumi transformed into his Kamen Rider suit. It was a mix of yellow and silver colors with bug-like visors for the eyes: one of them was shaped like a lightning bolt and the other was shaped like a microphone. His hair was exposed, but it was a bit more spiky than normal.

The spectators were most impressed when Tatsumi transformed, including even some of the UA students.

"Wow! Now that is something you don't see every day! Here at our very won UA Stadium, the first time in history, we have a real-life Kamen Rider!" Present Mic announced excitedly.

"I wasn't expecting for Tatsumi to transform like that. It reminds me of another type of heroes from America that transform, but I've only heard about it on television," Arisa said.

"I've never heard of Kamen Rider before, but Usagi did mention what Tatsumi can do. The Kamen Rider looks pretty interesting to me," Felicia commented.

"Wow! The way that boy transformed into a hero was incredible!" Stan Lee exclaimed.

"Let the match begin!" Midnight started.

Eli and Tatsumi ran to the center of the field, with their fists ready to punch each other. Their punches collided and they were both evenly matched because neither backed down.

Eli transformed his arms into mantis scythes to attack Tatsumi. The hero boy stepped back but stopped in front of the boundary line.

Suddenly, two earphone jacks came out of the arms of Tatsumi's suit as he placed his hands on the ground with the two jacks staved into the ground. He emitted a sound wave through the ground, creating a shake in the ground like an earthquake and a big crack in it too.

Eli almost lost his balance as the ground shook beneath him. Luckily, he quickly reacted by growing insect wings on his backs and flew off the shaking ground for safety.

Tatsumi pointed his finger like a gun at Eli in the air. An electrical current shot straight like a bullet at Eli, which surprised him. In a split second, Eli shielded himself with both his arms covered up in a hard beetle shell before he got zapped. He then got paralyzed and fell down to the ground.

"Holy Carrot! Now, that was shocking!" Usagi was surprised with no pun intended.

"Is Eli okay?" Arisa asked, looking worried.

"I'm not sure," Felicia answered, also looking worried.

Just when Midnight was about to declare Tatsumi the winner, Eli yelled for her to stop as he slowly stood back up.

"Wow! Amazing! These two are amazing! What is up with your class, Speed Girl?!" Present Mic asked, feeling excited.

"They are my sweet students! We may be the smallest class, but we are unique and strong in our own right," Speed Girl commented.

"Wow... They are both so amazing... Everyone here is just incredible..." Arisa thought aloud, which only Kai and Felicia heard.

Eli suddenly transformed his behind in a stinkbug abdomen and let loose the biggest and loudest fart that nobody has ever heard. The fart covered the entire area like smoke, but the most horrible part was the utter odor that came with it.

"Holy carrot! It stinks!" Usagi screamed as she was crying from the horrible stench of the smell.

"This smell is terrible," Arisa complained, with her hands covering her nose.

"Not again," Felicia complained, covering her nose too. She remembered that Eli did the same thing in the Cavalry Battle.

Tatsumi couldn't see in the smoke, as he was attacked by Eli's mantis scythe arms again. Tatsumi connected his earphone jacks to his arms and unleashed a loud sound wave from his arms, which acted like speakers. The wave cleared away the fart smoke, revealing Eli from his hiding.

Tatsumi then loudly explained about wanting to do well in the festival so he can show off his Quirk and Kamen Rider Mix suit, and use the Tokusatsu hero to inspire people. Not many people are Taokusatsu heroes in real life, only on television and at entertainment events. His dream is to revive the Tokusatsu hero and make it into a real hero profession, and it's his goal to win the festival.

"What friendship and understanding!" Present Mic commented excitedly. "And a very inspiring moment by Tatsumi Kurate!"

"Mixing Time! Final Mix Attack!" The driver announced as electrical energy surged through his right foot, and then he jumped up in the air. Eli transformed his legs into grasshopper legs, and then he jumped into the air too.

Both their kicks hit each other at the same time, and then they landed back on the arena ground at the same time. After a moment of silence, Tatsumi's suit dissipated and he collapsed. The crowd cheered as they saw the victor Eli raised his fist in victory.

"Yeah! Way to go, Eli!" Usagi hopped as she cheered.

"What a spectacular match! Both of them did well," Felicia commented.

"They sure did," Arisa agreed.

"Now that was one epic match! It reminds me of the battle between the spider hero guy and the man with metal octopus limbs," Stan Lee commented.

"Congratulations to both Eli and Tatsumi!" Speed Girl congratulated them.

"Wait for a second, Midnight hasn't declared Ellix as the winner yet," Mr. Aizawa noted.

"Oh yeah! That's right!" Present Mic remembered as he checked on over to see Midnight. "What happened to her?"

The commentators noticed and announced that Midnight was knocked out by Eli's surprise attack. Though Eli was confused by what happened to her.

"You're the one who did it!" everyone in Class 1-L thought the same thing.

The tournament had a 5-minute break for Midnight to wake up. After that, she was ready to continue.

"Anyway, this match's victory goes to Eli of Class 1-L!" Midnight declared as the crowd cheered again.

"She recovered fast," Miru noted.

Right after that, more matches were presented.

Next was the match between Tenya Iida from Class 1-A and a pink-haired girl equipped with gadgets named Mei Hatsume from Class 1-H.

Tenya Ida was equipped with one of Mei's support gear because she wanted them both to be evenly matched. Midnight and the announcers allowed it because everyone was in agreement.

During the match, Mei used the opportunity and her speakers to advertise her support equipment and items on Iida and herself. That surprised and bored people a bit because it felt like an advertisement/ commercial break.

After ten minutes, once Mei felt that she had shown everyone her support gear effectively, she walked out of bounds. Iida won the match, but he wasn't pleased with Mei using him.

"Um, that was unexpected, but Iida winning is good," Arisa said.

"Indeed," Felicia agreed. "Though the gadgets Hatsume invented seemed interesting."

"Well, that match was something, to say the least. That girl's devices did look great, like the ones made by the metal suit man," Stan Lee commented.

Following that was the match between Ochaco Uraraka, the girl with the Gravity Quirk, and Katsuki Bakugo, the guy with the Explosion Quirk, both from Class 1-A.

It started with Uraraka trying to reach Bakugo, but he sends her back with his Explosion, creating smoke and rubble. When he thought he saw her, he attacked again, but it turned out to be her gym uniform jacket. She came out of the smoke and planned to attack him from behind. However, he reacted quickly and attacked her again with Explosion, sending her back. The same process of her going at him and him sending her back repeated a few times.

Some of the crowd didn't like what Bakugo was doing to Uraraka, but Eraser Head shut them up.

Despite being wounded, Uraraka unleashed her secret strategy against Bakugo. Up above, some of the crowd saw floating rubble in the sky. It seems that when Bakugo used his Explosion, Uraraka made the rubble float via her Quirk while the smoke covered her so he couldn't see what she was doing.

Uraraka then released the rubble to fall on Bakugo, and it almost looked like a meteor shower. She used it as a distraction to attack him. But he unleashed a huge explosion that both destroyed the immense amount of rubble and sent her back to the ground.

Even being wounded and tired, Uraraka still intended to fight Bakugo. Unfortunately, Uraraka's wounds were too much for her and she collapsed. Once Midnight checked her, she declared her unable to battle, so Bakugo was declared the winner.

"That match was really hard to watch. Almost like when Usagi was fighting Drago. I feel bad that Uraraka lost." Arisa stated with a sad look.

"Indeed," Felicia agreed. "Bakugo was a tough opponent for her with his Explosion Quirk. Though Uraraka did create a brilliant strategy with the falling rubble, it wasn't enough to win the match. I admire her determination to keep going, despite getting hurt and tired from the battle."

"Well, that match was brutal and almost hard to watch. Like the fight between the thunder god guy and the living silver armor," Stan Lee said.

After that, was another match between two Class 1-A students: Momo Yaoyorozu, the vice class rep, and the blackbird head guy Fumikage Tokoyami.

When the match began, a shadowy, monster-like bird being, named Dark Shadow, came out of Tokoyami's body. He commanded it to attack Momo, who created a shield to block its first attack. It attacked a few more times and managed to knock the shield off her. Quickly, she created another shield to block its next attack, but the force pushed her back. She then created a pipe to attack, but the match was already over because she was out of bounds. That meant Tokoyami was the winner.

"That was a quick fight," Arisa said.

"Indeed. I feel bad for Yaoyorozu because her Quirk appears to be similar to mine. It's a shame we couldn't see her do more," Felicia agreed.

"Wow, that fight was over kind of quickly. I don't think even I can create a fight like that," Stan Lee commented.

Soon, the next match was between Junko Neru and Larry Cray, one of the bullies from Class 1-C.

It started with Larry trying to push Junko, but she dodged or rather fell asleep when he ran towards her. He accidentally stepped out of the boundary too far, which made Junko the winner.

"Blimey! That was a surprising victory," Felicia stated.

"It sure was, and I'm glad Junko won it," Arisa said.

"I can't believe there was another quick and easy victory. These kids and their Quirks are amazing," Stan Lee commented.

The last match for the first round was between Kirishima from Class 1-A and Tetsutetsu from Class 1-B. They both had a similar kind of Quirk that made their bodies strong. Kirishima can harden his body and Tetsutetsu can become hard as iron. Both collided and fought until they both KO'd each other.

A ten-minute break was announced to allow both guys to recover so they can do a tiebreaker to decide who goes on to the next round.

"I wasn't expecting that match to end in a draw," Felicia said.

"Me too, but it makes sense because both their Quirks are similar," Arisa stated.

"The match between those two boys was a real stalemate. Reminds me of the battle between the incredibly big green guy and a giant metal suit created to stop him," Stan Lee commented.

"I'm a little thirsty after watching those many battles," Arisa told Felicia. "I'm going to go get a drink from the water fountain."

"Okay. I'm going to go use the bathroom," Felicia responded.

Both girls stood up, went to the hallway, and then went their separate ways.

'The fights in the tournament so far have been great and sort of brutal so far. I wonder if I can or could actually fight like that,' Arisa thought.

As she was in deep thought, she wasn't looking where was going and bumped into someone.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see where I was..." Arisa stopped herself because of who she bumped into: Endeavor.

"It's alright. Just watch where you're going," Endeavor replied as he left.

'I can't believe I just bumped into Endeavor. Well, Shoto did tell me his dad is here. It looks he didn't recognize me after all this time,' Arisa thought as she continued to the water fountain.

Once there, she saw Kai getting a drink from the fountain.

'There's Kai. Maybe I can talk to him about something,' Arisa thought.

"Kai..." Arisa said to him.

That got his attention as he turned around to face her.

"Arisa?" Kai replied.

"Man, the tournament is sure exciting, isn't it?" She asked with a smile. "I've never seen everyone fight like that."

"Um, yeah. It is exhilarating," Kai commented.

"You know, Kai," Arisa said as she looked a bit calmer and sort of sad despite her small smile. "Everyone in the tournament is doing their best because they made it here. They are amazing, including you, too."

"Yeah. So, what about it?" Kai asked.

"Well... It's just that seeing how everyone's fighting... I feel like it inspires me to do better. Even though I have a Quirk and all, I do not like to fight because I do not like violence and all. It is weird, right? A person like me in a Hero Course who does not like to fight because I dislike violence. There are times I think about that, and I always think if I fit in here... if you know what I mean."

Kai looked at her, without saying anything, and then she gasped a bit.

"Oh! My apology! I don't know what I just said that! Please forget what I said!" Arisa was about to run away until...

"No, you're not wrong about how you feel," Kai said as she stopped to listen.

"It's not like people become a hero to fight villains because they like violence or whatever. They fight because they have many reasons to be a hero. Like how Tatsumi fought. He did it not because of its violence, but he wanted to show off his skills and influence the watchers that a Tokusatsu Hero can be strong like a real Pro Hero. Yeah, the fight between him and Eli was a bit rough, but they did it for a reason. Maybe you just need to ask yourself what you want to do."

"What I want to do..." Arisa repeated.

"Well, the 10-minute break is almost up. I'm going back," Kai said.

Arisa quickly got her drink from the water fountain as she and Kai returned to their seats.

'I wonder why I told Kai about my belief in nonviolence,' Arisa thought on the way back.

On the way to the bathroom, Felicia encountered Drago in the hallway.

"Drago, is there something you want?" she asked him.

"Yes. I would like you to pay up on the favor." Drago said.

"What is it?" Felicia questioned.

"During my fight against Kai, I would like you to keep an eye out for anything about him. After that, you will meet up with me to tell me what you find." Drago explained.

"Why?" Felicia asked.

"I have a feeling that something strange might happen during my fight against Kai," Drago told her.

That confused her a bit, but she decided to ignore it for now.

"Okay. I will do that," Felicia agreed.

"Good," Drago left to prepare for his match.

Once he left, Felicia went to the bathroom. After she finished, she was in deep thought as she exited the bathroom.

'I wonder what did Drago mean by 'something strange might happen'. I guess it's because Kai's Quirk is unknown to the students in our class.' Felicia thought.

As she was in deep thought, she wasn't looking where she was going and bumped into someone.

"My apologies. I didn't see where I was going," Felicia told the person.

It was a woman in a light blue and white skintight suit with diamond patterns on her sleeve, middle of her belly-button area, and legs.

The woman looked serene, but almost emotionless too.

"It's okay miss. No harm done. Right, Miss Mirror?" the guy next to her asked.

Felicia recognized the man next to Miss Mirror as Judge Light. He is a tall man in a white court dress, white hoodie, and a gold mask: one half showed half of a sun, and the other half showed half of a full moon. He also wore a pair of white gloves and black boots.

Miss Mirror nodded her head in agreement.

Miss Mirror. Quirk: Mirror Mirror. She can create a reflective barrier that reflects any incoming attacks or objects. If someone punches the barrier, it will reflect the force of the punch back to the owner. It's like seeing yourself in a mirror.

"Oh, thank you Miss Mirror," Felicia said to her.

"Let's get back to our patrol," Judge Light declared as he led the way and Miss Mirror followed.

'Blimey! I can't believe I met Judge Light and Miss Mirror.' Felicia thought, but she shook her head to focus on something more important.

'But I hope nothing strange happens when Drago and Kai fight each other,' she thought on the way back to her seat.

Soon, Kai, Arisa, and, Felicia returned to their class's box seat.

Once Kirishima and Tetsutetsu recovered, the tiebreaker was decided to be an arm-wrestling match. This rattled the crowd due to their manliness. It was even between both guys for a while, but Kirishima won it in the end and would go on the next round. Both guys shared a handshake and seemed to become friends.

Soon the Round 2 fights would begin. One fight would be considered powerful and truly stupendous. The other fight would be considered the most horrific, yet dangerous fight in the UA Sports Festival.
